Zhao Li Ying’s period drama The Story of Ming Lan begins filming

Grandma looks so happy! ^_^

And here we go! Zhao Li Ying‘s upcoming period drama has an official English name: The Story of Ming Lan (庶女明兰传), based on the novel written by Guan Xin Ze Luan. It kicks off filming today but the three main leads, Li Ying, Feng Shao Feng, and Zhu Yi Long were not there, all busy completing their other dramas is my guess, heh. The story follows our heroine through her youth, into her adulthood, and well into her marriage life as well. She’s the 6th child of the Sheng household. Though she is an intelligent and beautiful child, she was not loved by her family (her dad, her sisters, her mom dies early.) She has to hide her intelligence and suffers through the years, hoping to avenge for her mom. During this process she will meet many friends and foes, one of which is our male lead, Gu’s second son, Gu Ting Ye. He has helped and mistreated her before, but also the one to witness her sharp wits and lonely soul. After they get married, they will work together as a power couple, managing the new King’s regime as well as harvesting a world of happiness on their own.

To be honest, I’m a little anxious about this drama…. mainly because her story sounds like a slow-burn type of drama; would it be engaging throughout 70 episodes? It is produced by Hou Hong Liang, the man behind many acclaimed series such as Nirvana in Fire, Ode To Joy, Disguiser, etc so I’m less ill about the whole thing. I think PA burned me really well ~ Instead of excited about Li Ying’s drama, I’m drowning in sorrow. LOL.

Grandma will be the best supporting character ever! I look forward to cute interactions between her and ZLY’s Minglan.

It’s definitely a slow-burn kind of story so a lot depends on the writers and how they want to plan out the story. I’m not expecting a very addicting pace, just pray they can make it interesting enough so that people don’t expect Li Ying to carry the drama.

Pacing is what I’m deathly afraid of! >.<" My goldfish attention span. Lol. I wonder whether they will use child actors for the beginning. Promotes the youngins!

70 eps is pretty long though….. I’m willing to put my trust in the writers, producer and director due to their previous projects.
