Tao Yi Xi leads child actors in drama version of The Three Kingdoms

If you have been following AVV for a while, you know I’ve been watching these child actors (from the program Star of Tomorrow) since last year and they continue to impress one project after another. The latest one which aired a month ago is their kiddie version of The Three Kingdoms period. I think the topic is a too heavy for child actors but they look so in characters, it’s mind-blowing. Maybe because they’re still kids so trying to look pretty on cameras isn’t on their agenda yet, hence the 100% immersion. Adult actors, be careful!

You should recognize this pretty child actress by now, the leading female character in most kiddie productions. Tao Yi Xi as Diao Chan, one of the Four Beauties of ancient China. I just still can’t fathom how pretty she is at her age…. only 11!

Ge Yi De as Lu Bu, a military general and warlord who lived in the late Eastern Han dynasty. He betrayed and murdered Ding and defected to Dong Zhuo, the warlord who controlled the Han central government in the early 190s. In 192, he turned against Dong Zhuo and killed him after being instigated by Wang Yun and Shisun.

Zhou Ke Yi as Zhang Fei, a military general who served under the warlord Liu Bei. He scares me a little with how “in” character he is! The crazy hair too! Lol.

ughhh idk how to describe it.
I thought miniature horses would fit very cutely when I see those kids riding.
I’ve never known the story of this book, tried the series (95 episodes/2010), but dropped coz didn’t get what was going on. So spoilers can’t even spoil me coz I forget things so fast. I only remember this story is very popular in Asia. The tv series was a hit back in 2010 in some Asian countries besides China.

Is this a new trend in c-drama? I’m not very familiar with various Chinese entertainments. I’m not sure how to feel about seeing little kids in a serious series. Too weird for me.

Not a new trend Blue, it’s a child acting program, basically a group of child actors have been doing old classics; white snake, three kingdoms, etc. 🙂

OMG. I love this! Totally brought flashbacks of a movie I saw when I was a little kid of kids acting as adults! I thought it was so fascinating when I was younger. I couldn’t for the life of me remember the name so since google is my best friend … found it! A 1976 film called Bugsy Malone. I could never get into the Three Kingdom series but I’ll definitely check this one out.

I love these kids acting, their movies always surprise me. Technology was quite limited so fightings were always done very beautifully through natural skills. I think it’s because they’re young and innocent, they put creativeness in their expressions without any fear (especially fear of looking ugly, or if they do then they were cute!). And like always, I enjoy fast pace things, much more interesting than real drama shows.

I saw bits of their version of The White Snake and it was just so good!! The theme is a bit heavy, but I think they are doing such an amazing job!

I saw the trailer for this and was wondering what it was. I was impressed, but also a bit giggly as anytime kids are playing adults, it amuses me.

OH MY! Anyone see the Dream of Red Chamber they did? Try searching 小戏骨红楼梦刘姥姥进大观园 in youtube. I’m so amazed and creeped out at the same time at how well they acted this out. It is a total 100% copy of 1987, but they acted a little faster. Everyone is so beautiful that I hardly feel they’re kids at all.

Oh yes, thanks, please do post about them.

I got really surprised at how different the little girl from Mulan looks in here , I think it’s the make up.

What do you think?
