Tangren’s epic historical drama held a press conference today and dropped a whopping 10-minute trailer to appease your hunger! Based on the novel by Ma Bo Yong, Secret of the Three Kingdoms aims to unravel the re-imagined buried secrets and hidden hands behind the imperial changes of the Eastern Han Dynasty on Cao Cao’s side, led by Ma Tian Yu and Elvis Han Dong Jun.
Press Conference 9/26 and New Stills:
Ma Tian Yu as twins – Liu Xie and Liu Ping. The twins were separated after the queen’s execution, one was raised to become a puppet emperor, while the other one was raised with Sima Yi. Juicy role!! The two are good friends with different personality, one is kind, while the one has intelligence and the required ruthlessness in battles.
Elvis Han Dong Jun as Sima Yi. Best known as a general and politician of the state of Cao Wei in the Three Kingdoms period, defending Wei from Zhuge Liang’s Northern Expeditions.
Wan Qian (The Glory of Tang Dynasty) as Fu Shou, an empress of the Eastern Han dynasty. She was the first wife of Emperor Xian (Liu Xie), the last Han emperor.
Dong Jie as Tang Ying. Ma Tian Yu’s twin (Emperor Shao of Han)’s wife. Dude is so lucky! supporter, love line with Sima Yi.
Sunny Wang as Guo Jia, warlord Cao Cao’s adviser in the late Eastern Han dynasty.
Dong Xuan as Diao Chan. Was thought to had a romance with Lu Bu and caused Lu to betray and kill his foster father, tyrannical warlord Dong Zhuo.
Tan Jian Ci as Cao Pi, first emperor of the state of Cao Wei, second son of Cao Cao.

It’s looking good! Going to be interesting to watch this drama after The Advisors Alliance! And I like there’s only 40 episodes. Pacing should be quite fast.

The trailer is done just right, fast-paced enough to keep viewers curious but not enough to reveal everything. I’m surprised to find the Empress Fu Shou to be the most intriguing character of all. She seems to be a ruthless empress forcing the kind-hearted emperor to wage war for the greater good. Even though the emperor most definitely disagrees with her, their relationship isn’t antagonistic and they care for each other. Haven’t seen such a complex, layered romance in many, many dramas.
I’m not sure if I’ll stick to the end because I’m not good with wars and politics (and I remember vividly falling asleep during a Romance of the Three Kingdoms movie) but I’ll definitely tune in for this relationship, if anything.

Totally agree on the Empress Fu Shou’s part. She’s a very complex and will be very interesting to watch on screen.
The twins’ character is also differentiable.

The acting here seems good from the leads…I have been disappointed by the acting in the last two historical Cdramas seen recently, so it’s nice to see young cast who can carry a drama properly. Will try this out.

This actually looks SOOO good! I’m most excited for Sima Yi (Man, Han Dong Jun seems to be pulling that off with aplomb!!) and Fu Shou (seems so controversial and Wan Qian really brings her to life). ALSO, the bromance b/w Ma Tian Yu and HDJ is looking very very very promising. I love Wu Xiu Bo, but tbh this looks more my style than Advisor’s Alliance.

For me Advisors Alliance way much better. The only one I liked in the trailer is Guo Jia. Cao Cao is not impressive at all.

This is the Engsub trailer I translated for anyone who hasn’t seen it.
Anyway I just want to clarify, Tang Ying is not the wife of Liu Ping’s twin brother. Liu Ping is an original character. His twin is Liu Xie – Emperor Xian, the last emperor of Han. Emperor Shao – Tang Ying’s husband, is Liu Bian, a half-brother of Liu Xie (and Liu Ping).
So our main character has 2 sisters-in-law :))) He will fall in love with his twin’s wife – Fu Shou, while Tang Ying will have a love line with Sima Yi here 😛
Liu Xie is a cold and calculated emperor who can sacrifice anything and anyone, even himself, for his goal – to revive the Han dynasty. Liu Ping grew up in a carefree and comfortable life with the Sima Clan, so he starts out a kindhearted and naive guy, then will grow along the drama.
Oh, and Liu Xie’s mother was never the empress. She got killed by Liu Bian’s empress mother for giving birth to a son (actually twins).
