Nothing Gold Can Stay Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 12

So many dramas I want to watch but no time! How to find the door to the 4th dimension. Or the clone machine.

If you’re curious, this drama airs every single day of the week, 2 episodes per day, one episode on Sunday. The ratings kicked off really well, both stations over 1! If it keeps increasing, this might be the next big drama in cdramaland.

OMG, I freaken LOOOOOOOOOVE Sun Li in this drama.
I decided to give it a try despite expecting to be skimming a lot but no, the pace was too SUPERB. Very very very good acting (I appreciate that even the maids are very good at acting too, they don’t give me the feeling like they’re hoping to get a spotlight, they just play their part naturally to make the story as realistic as possible), and extremely good scripting too! I love how scenes transition connectingly well.

I know Sun Li is a good actress and very established already but this drama really took her to a next level with me. She is too natural in acting like a ghetto, strong kick-ass carefree person with tons of cool (and hilarious) expressions. I don’t know how she played a funny-cool-cute person without trying so hard like others (Jing Tian is good example), she just comes off very natural.

Chen Xiao is such a loud spoiled brat that is very annoying but he is lucky he is cute!
It’s amazing that Peter Ho was also quite well established too, so I didn’t think he would move back to a character who is slightly dumb because of being too compassionate. But he did, and he is playing it so realistic and naturally well too. I love how everybody is so good at acting in here. No wonder, I can see why the ratings are doing do so well here, hopefully it does become the next big thing.

Can you believe she had never received any acting lessons? She really shines in this drama!

I saw a weibo post somewhere about how the current few popular good actresses are the ones who didn’t take acting lessons, forgot who they were but yay to Sun Li! She is honestly the best! And she always has an eye when it comes to the script and production!!!

I’m watching this without subs but the acting is so clear and naturalistic that really, it’s not totally necessary yet. Although the business machinations are pretty murky.

I am so dead!!! Dying to watch more. They really need to release more of this drama T_T
I also want eng subs but I can’t wait when I can understand like 60% lol…
I can’t believe I ended up shipping Sun Li and Chen Xiao (sorry Deng Chao), at first I thought she will look to mature for Chen Xiao, and that is not the case at all because this drama has totally nothing to do with how pretty/ugly anybody look. Sun Li and CX has this one chemistry right away on the first few episodes, it was ONLY episode 4 and I already feel bad for CX hoping that he’ll find her back quick (wonder what he’ll do to her too, love-hate CX because he is super FUN but cruel) although I also do like Peter Ho quite a lot too (I never usually like this guy ever, this time he changed 180 degree). I’m so glad Peter Ho is not the overly extreme stiff boring guy just to make it more than obvious to us that he is the opposite of goofy Chen Xiao, Peter Ho is fun in his own way and his chemistry with Sun Li is good too.
Also, I like Sun Li’s classmates, I got to note that I am totally amazed by the one classmate who always tutors her because his face is expressionless (100% robotic, more than Ye Hua / BZH / YWY) but I don’t know whatever magic he used, I can see how nice and how caring he is, and I was even able to tell he has feelings for Sun Li. This is also the first time I ever liked a robot character because he did it so convincingly. I think whoever directed this is very brilliant!

Oh my… I thought the leads are famous internationally? At least Chen Xiao?

I forgot who had the rights, but the channel that uploads the episodes (tv and full uncut versions) probably suggesting that people fan-subs the videos. They probably want people to watch it on the official youtube or something with those ads and hoping someone can sub it for free. :\

Kindly let us know when the sub is released… I watched some videos on youtube, and totally expecting this one. I havent finish anything with chen xiao, so i hope this one can be the first.

My expectations were high for this drama and Sun Li fulfilled it. I was absorbed in the fluid storyline and strong acting from the very first episode. Hopefully this trend will continue to the end. Sun Li mostly always carefully chooses her script and her drama typically comes out high quality, so she’s in maybe one or two dramas a year and I very much respect her for that.

I need subs!!! Hope this drama hit jackpot in ratings!!

I love it, binged watched this one myself.

I love the entire cast, though to be honest Peter Ho was pretty much just playing himself lol. He has the good person characterization down pat.

I was at first hesitant towards Chen Xiao’s pick in this role since he has such a baby face, but he really fits the image of a spoiled brat.

The only reason I’m kind of not sure if I should continue watching is that I read some details regarding the story. Sounds like CX and Sun Li won’t get together in the end. I don’t know if I can take that kind of bittersweet ending especially since I’m already emotionally invested in them.

    • 17 thoughts on “Nothing Gold Can Stay Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 12

Yeah the summary said unrequited love so maybe they are not going to end together, but I’m very sure it’s not like one of them are going to marry another (again), or if one of them got to die… I’m sure they’ll be together forever but just not married. And maybe since they’re together anyway we can speculate if they might eventually marry later and just not shown in the drama, or stay as respectful friends forever. I’m actually fine with endings like that.
Chen Xiao’s psycho attitude got me laughing every time, I cannot wait until they meet again!!!

I did not notice Deng Chao’s photoshopped pictures up there till now, so funny haha!

I prefer if Sun Li and Chen Xiao characters are not together in the end consider what Chen Xiao character did to Peter Ho character. I’m watching the latest ep and really dislike Chen Xiao’s bratty character and his “xiao ye” attitude.

Yea CX played dirty and hurt PH…but I think this sets the tone for the changes and development CX will make later on. If you notice, in the most recent episode, CX does have a heart. He’s just spoiled, reckless and immature. But he’s not necessarily a bad person. I’m confident he will convince us later in the story that he’s a changed man and worthy of SL’s love. Which is all the more reason why I’m going to be so heartbroken to never see them together

I am trying so hard not to watch this. Waiting for it to come out in full since I hate waiting for all the episodes.

From everyones review…it’s going to be worth the wait.

What do you think?
