Well, well, well! We finally have the supporting cast list for Zhao Li Ying‘s next period drama, The Legend of the Concubine’s Daughter Ming Lan (庶女明兰传) written by Guan Xin Ze Luan, which previously confirmed Li Ying and Feng Shao Feng as the main leads. We only have one more month before the production kicks off somewhere in September and Li Ying will hopefully have finished up Our Glamorous Time by then. The story follows our heroine through her youth, into her adulthood, and well into her marriage life as well. She’s the 6th child of the Sheng household. Though she is an intelligent and beautiful child, she was not loved by her family (her dad, her sisters, her mom dies early.) She has to hide her intelligence and suffers through the years, hoping to avenge for her mom. During this process she will meet many friends and foes, one of which is our male lead, Gu’s second son, Gu Ting Ye. He has helped and mistreated her before, but also the one to witness her sharp wits and lonely soul. After they get married, they will work together as a power couple, managing the new King’s regime as well as harvesting a world of happiness on their own.
I haven’t started this novel….not sure whether starting it is a good idea. Lol.

NOOOO you guys got Zhu Yi Long…why did you guys make Feng Shao Feng the main lead. He’s been successful in a lot of hit dramas but if you actually think about it…he’s not a great actor at all in terms of skill. I went thru a FSF phase after Palace Lockheart and seriously. He’s decent in certain roles (which, on his part, are usually well chosen to suit him) but all his roles really fit the same mold. It takes a charismatic guy to make a guy who “mistreats” the girl likable and honestly I don’t think FSF is him. I love LiYing, I really do, but why is it that all her production seem to have potential on paper, yet inevitably picks up major flaws along the way that really just make me hate her dramas…
Liying…don’t do this to me cuz you know I’m gonna watch if only for you, but it’s gonna be a long road of misery.
Right now I’m just hoping Our Glamorous Times is good. I decently like what’s translated of the novel/source material, and despite hating his character in Princess Agents, I’m more likely to forgive the main lead cuz he’s a newbie and acting wise he didn’t have any major flaws I hated about him.

Loved FSF in Prince of Lan Ling, his other dramas before/after that weren’t that great. Gonna be hard for him to stop us from getting second lead syndrome!
I have faith in the production team – Battle of Changsha was amazing, esp. the character development and relationships. Hoping this will be the first ZLY drama I’ve watched without skipping through (PA >_<, Chusen, HQG, etc lol).

I totally disagree, Feng Shao Feng is a great actor. He started acting as an adult in just a few years he became millionaire, He got awards for his acting skills, he is very talented actor. The producer did a great job choosing Feng Shao Feng as leading man.

its a period drama, think legend of fragrance with li yi feng and william chan and the upcoming nothing gold can stay with sun li and chen xiao. the type with big household and one man with many wives.

I think Zhu Yi Long is a decent actor. I disliked his character in Love for Three Lifetimes, and couldn’t care for him in Border because the character is oh so emo, but I do recognize the talent.

What a pretty cast….there are still some missing characters (the eldest sister, the doctor suitor…). Wonder if they are uncasted yet or going to be removed from the adaptation. I love the grandma actress…she looks kind and exactly what I envision when I was reading the book.
I’m not sure why but ZLY always pick the novels I like ….*facepalm* now I can only pray the production is good and it doesn’t air on HunanTV. It’s kind of slice of life…so I’m not sure it makes for exciting tv though hahaha.

Yikes, then I hope they don’t follow the book like crazy because the reading world is so different from drama world. I can read an entire chapter for 20-30 minutes (slow reader) and only 1-2 things happened, but that’s totally fine bc of all the descriptive words. But in a drama, it is illegal to have 5-10 long episodes with only 1 important thing that ever happened (talking about PA).
Storyline is very Wei Young, I am staying prepare / expecting to see an evil mama and evil sisters starting cat fights and endless arguments and framings. Any spoiler if that’s going to happen?
The biggest hope is to have ZLY styled beautiful, if anything should fail, at least ZLY looked pretty (like in HQG), I swear the storyline and pace in JoF was trashy but she looked great even when I hate the type of personality she played there.

I think I’ll probably enjoy watching it more than reading the novel. I’ve only read what’s translated so far but it’s very slice of life – lots of schooling and family drama and reflecting on one’s mistakes – that will probably be trimmed down in a drama.
Maybe I’m showing my age but what else has Liu Jun been in? Those dimples look familiar . . .

This is the opposite of PA for me. For PA, I was super excited about the cast, didn’t care for Ciwen. For this one I am not really feeling the cast, but I trust this production company. If PA taught me anything, it was the importance a good production company. The only drawback so far is the director for me, but since I trust the production company I will trust they made the right choice.
I am disappointed that there is no one I like in this cast besides ZLY.

Well, casting aside, I have faith in the writer+director team who did the magnificent Battle of Changsha. Wallace Huo is arguably on the same level with FSF but he didn’t feel out of place at all in BoC, it’s all about how the director can utilize actor’s capability with the script.

FSF definitely don’t fit in my image of the male lead in any way -.- he looks too.. I don’t know, frail? Don’t seem to have the ruggedness which I imagine the male lead to be.
Although I’m concern with the casting, I love the book too much so I’ll still catch it when it airs (plus NIF production! I hope they salvage it somehow!)
The book is really great – I think you can give it a try to see if you like it.. the writing is refreshing, and very engaging.
They probably will change some of the storyline since they will cover from youth to adult to marriage life, which quite a lot to cover… and the male lead I think only appeared halfway through the book, so I guess they will briefly cover the front portion then focus more on how the two meet and their marriage life.

Yeah I feel the writer Will make or break this adaptation because like PA this is another strange book where readers don’t really know who is the male lead till we are half book in. Again male 2 appears first and prominently in the first part since he loves her since youth…male 3 then feature a lot in early adult(he is not in the character posters so maybe his character is gonna be trimmed?)…while male 1 only appear much much later and with sons and other women. The female lead is more detached that ChuQiao….🙈 you don’t really feel she loves any of them until the end with male 1, so more backlash and shipping wars?

Zhu Yi Long is really handsome, watch a couple of his series but I don’t see much chrisma him maybe thats why he stuck with second lead. I like some of Feng ShaoFeng series, but lately i been passing his series, hopefully this one will turn out to be really good.

I feel bad for people posting here who haven’t seen FSF in more than a couple dramas or never saw him in banquet or wolf totem. I know he’s not for everyone but he’s had some really clever and manlyroles. Don’t just watch all the most popular dramas, your brain will rot. It’s just like other countries videos/movies/tvshows/ just cause it’s popular doesn’t make it good. FSF is great and ask the other actors are great. Heres to a successful drama and many awards! It seems like FSF pull double standard often.His dramas are questionable(glaring at ice fantasy)but his movies are in fact good enough to show how good actor he is.
If his role here is required to be tough,I am quite sure he can if he put in same standard as he did for his movies.

Another novel adaptation.. Gosh.. Liying really a novel geek.
I didn’t read PA novel, so maybe thats why I really enjoyed it and loved Chu Qiao, and XingYue so cuteee. I think the fight scenes and war scenes was great. Never seen anything like CQ in asian-dramaland.
But, yeah ZLY need to break outside ‘novel world’ sometimes… The novel world is very tiring and frustrating. She need to come to ‘taiwan idol drama world’, which is fun to watch.
Beside, she don’t have a legit modern romcom dramas list.
Back to the topic.
I’m okay with FSF, I care more about how they write the story plot and the production & post production quality. I’ve seen too many stupid mainland editing that butchered the story. Geez.. when will mainland post production quality step up?

It was cute and funny, but why the stupid production &editing team made it super speed movie?
And that Kris Wu-Liu Yi Fei’s movie Never Gone.. It’s so sad how they even have the heart to cut the ending of the story without ‘any sense’. Luckily, I get the glimpe of the ending in one of MV. Poor actors T__T They have worked hard to play, but to be cut and destroyed.
Even the mainland dare to do it in Big Screen X__X
I hope ZLY get lucky on her new projects, maybe she need to read all the scripts to the end, before say ‘yes’
