Thai Remake of You Who Came From the Stars casts Nadech Kugimiya and Matt Peranee

Ah, Kim Hubby’s drama, You Who Came From the Stars, gets a Thai Adaptation, securing actor Nadech Kugimiya and Matt Peranee in the leading roles. Interesting, to me the original is totally owned by Jun Ji Hyun so it will be a challenge for another actress to top or come close to her perfect performance as the famous starlet who lives next door to our male lead, a 400-year old cynical alien with super powers. I don’t know much about Thai dramaland and a quick google tells me both of the Thai actors are under 30! So young despite their more mature faces.

Lead Couple:

Nadech Kugimiya. This kid is very, very handsome. Dark brows and dimples!

Matt Peranee. She looks fierce and somehow I think is a great fit for our fabulous starlet role.

Synopsis from Wiki: Do Min-joon (Kim Soo-hyun) is an alien that landed on Earth in the year 1609, during the Joseon Dynasty. As he tries to help a young girl, Yi-hwa, from falling off a cliff, he misses his trip back to his planet and is stranded on Earth for the next four centuries. He possesses a near-perfect appearance, enhanced physical abilities involving his vision, hearing, and speed, and a cynical, jaded view regarding human beings. As time goes by, Min-joon is forced to take on a new identity every ten years, as his human appearance never ages.

In the present, he works as a college professor. With only three months left before his long-awaited departure back to space, he meets Cheon Song-yi (Jun Ji-hyun), a famous Hallyu actress who suddenly becomes his next-door neighbour. Slowly, he finds himself entangled in Song-yi’s crazy and unpredictable situations, and finds out that she looks like the young girl he fell in love with in the Joseon era. Min-joon tries to keep himself away from Song-yi as he needs to leave the planet, but often finds himself failing to do so.

However, Song-yi gets entangled in the dangerous game of Lee Jae-kyung (Shin Sung-rok), the elder brother of Lee Hee-kyung (Park Hae-jin), who has been her friend since middle school and is in love with her. Yoo Se-mi (Yoo In-na) is Song-yi’s childhood best friend who has a crush on Hee-Kyung since middle school. Realizing her love is just one-sided, later Se-mi gives up her feeling on Hee-kyung and starts to focus on her career as an actress. As Jae-kyung tries to silence Song-yi, Min-joon finds himself saving her multiple times and eventually the neighbors fall for each other. But Jae-kyung turns out to be much more dangerous than Min-joon suspected as he hurt Se-mi’s older brother who is investigating on an actress murdered case that Jae-kyung is strongly involved and he also mysteriously starts to lose control on his super powers.

Matt is a solid actress, she can do comedy & drama both well so I’m looking forward to seeing how she interprets the character. I was surprised by Nadech’s casting just because of physicality (compared to Kim Soo Hyun) but I think it’s a good thing they’re not opting for similar actors to the original but forging their own identity with the remake. I’m looking forward to this, hopefully they can retain the essence of the original but make it an independent Thai drama.

Nadech has the acting chops to play a taciturn guy with a secret marshmallow interior. Matt? Hmm, she would not have been my first choice for female lead. Most of her more memorable roles are brats, so she has that going for her. But the maturity level is going to be a toughy.

Still, most of the Thai adaptations (Playful Kiss, Full House, Autumn In My Heart) were much better than their JP / SK originals, in my opinion. So this one is intriguing on that level, at least for me as a lakorn lover. ^^

I think Matt is an awesome actress, and she actually looks really cute when she smiles. With the right styling she’d probably look less “fierce”. I’m actually really looking forward to the adaptation because of the fresh pairing. I must admit that I can’t align myself with Thai beauty standards (which is why I don’t really watch their dramas), and this is probably the first pairing where I feel comfortable with both leads.

    excited for this!!

matt is probably the best actress of her generation. she’s like a younger anne t. in channel 3, i would rank her as 1st > kim = yaya = margie = mint (these four vary with the roles)

nadech as tough guy but softie. he can do it!!

I’ve had my eyes on this news for months now since news first came out. Matt just confirmed recently that she knew she was chosen for the role from the start but had to keep quiet about it till the elders came out to announce it especially as with Thai ent castings can change at any given time. Also she had to refuse numerous projects because Nadech has so many dramas this year they hadn’t found a set time to start filming. Filming starts September hence it most likely will air next year.
What I love about her being cast is.
    1. Matt is one of the best actresses of her generation but unfortunately isn’t as popular as she should be due to how blunt and 3d she is real life.
    2. Ties to one, her casting is perfect as in real life Matt is legit just like seeing yi. Not dumb but extra, 3d, without filter and a celebrity.
    3. In thai Lakorns which is what dramas are called. Pairings take the cake. Hence why you see over 4dramas with Nadech- yay, Kim- mark, Bella – James etc. This pairings I feel tend to limit the actors and actresses and seeing the same person (cough nadech yaya) one drama after another with no space in-between(e.g. their upcoming body switch and princess bodyguard drama) it doesn’t hone their acting chops which is why toll this day my favorite dramas of the above actresses and actors are those they did with others. E.g Kim- Nadech, Yaya- Mark. So Nadech meeting Matt while others might see as a chance to help Matt get more known and loved (hated by the shippers of nadech yaya) I feel it’s Nadech who should be more “grateful” as with this he gets to act with someone that will challenge him, can act and teach him a thing or two..
    4. Matt is a huge kdrama fan so this is her fulfilling her second dream the first being acting with her fave actor(someone else not nadech)
    5. The hate any actress that acts with Nadech is no joke. Even Kim with how loved she is being the second biggest ship with Mark next to Nadech and Yaya got hate when she acted with Nadech and due to the hate the females get most are scared to take roles next to nadech but Matt is someone who legit has 0 cares and will not be unfazed by the hate that for sure is coming her way by shippers.

My only prayer for this drama is that they actually kiss because most Nadech fans know that Nadech hardly ever kisses in his dramas except it’s Yaya and part of what made ywcfts was the kisses and the fact his saliva couldn’t mix with anothers. I’m hoping since Mark and Yaya kissed in Kleun Chewitt(hallelujah). Actual kisses not just placing a hand over the lip and kissing the hands kiss or we touch our lips kiss they can do this here. I know Matt won’t have an issue with that but will Nadech? That can only be answered when it airs.

Nadech is my number 1 Thai actor()Kim is my number 1 Thai actress after which comes Bella, though Yaya is finally winning my heart thanks to Kleun Chewitt) but even I have to admit boyfriend still needs work but I am happy he got this role with Matt as she isn’t scared to truly throw out the celebrity image and actually …act. Hopefully he comes out a better actor.

Im glad seeing nadech with different actress. I like him with mewnitta in a lakorn, but i always have this one problem, forgetting the title of a drama. I like both yaya and nadech, but get bored seeinh yadech in every single drama. So, look forward to this one.

This drama is one of my fave. Im a big fan of kim soo hyun but i like nadech. Havent watched anything with Matt. But yeah, she hasnt been in the same level as yaya-kim etc. So goodluck!

With this solid cast, hopefully this one wont be like PH Thai. The worst Thai remake ever. Sorry not sorry.

OMG Nadech and Matt! Love both of them! I think both have the acting chops for this. Matt def fit the bill to play CSY- not sure about Nadech though but he is sure such an eye candy 😍😍😍
