Because I know you guys need MOAR dramas to watch. Did anyone find the 4th dimension door yet? Most of these are under-the-radar dramas, not mainstream ones.
In No Particular Order:
=======> ♦ Jin Dong is on the roll! His modern drama, The First Half of My Life, also broke two in ratings. Beside Princess Agents, it’s the only other drama that broke 2. This drama probably has less investment and budget compared to PA but is reaping impressive results and airing on two stations too. Who’s watching it? Well, he’s back again with another modern drama For My Love, acting alongside three generations of actresses, veteran Pan Hong, same age group Tong Lei, and child actress Wang Zhi Xuan. It will premiere on August 10th, 2017 with 38 episodes.
=======> ♦ Anti-Terrorism Special Forces (反恐特战队之猎影) led by Victor Huang, Mickey He, and Mou Xing premiered on July 14th with 48 episodes. Victor leading!
=======> ♦ Zhang Rui and Li Guang Jie‘s Tracks In The Snowy Forest (林海雪原) premiered on July 16th with 66 episodes.
=======> ♦ Ethan Ruan and Xu Lu‘s webdrama, Candle In The Tomb: The Weasel Grave will air on July 21st with 20 episodes.
=======> ♦ Did you know our Prince Yuan Song (Actor Niu Jun Feng) was already leading in 2014? His old drama Redgate Brothers (红门兄弟) aired two weeks ago, after being shelved for two years. The other surprise, his leading lady was An Yue Xi. The opening themesong is really nice.
=======> ♦ Zhou Xun and Wallace Huo‘s epic palace drama, Ru Yi’s Royal Love In the Palace also reveals that it will launch on December 5th of this year, right on time for some Christmas catfights. Who will get the King’s love? Ruby Lin and Baby of course. Lol.

Jin Dong’s new drama looks so dramatic, I’m glad half a lifetime is doing well, we need something quality to balance out the mess Princess Agents is dishing out and still getting high ratings! WHAT? I stopped watching and only reading recaps, but even reading recaps is a chore! Lol.

@Nini, I’m like you. Now I’m afraid to spend too much time reading PA recaps. And watching PA very slowly. Otherwise, I’ll ruin all PA fans’ mood and complain too much about the plot, weird logic & production values. lol.
@Kappy, I’m watching half lifetime slowly. Acting, production values are good. I’m not fond of spoiled Ma Yi Li’s character and acting for the first few (3?) eps. Though MYL’s Shanghainese accent sound nice. Jin Dong is a great actor, but his roles often make him end up looking like a super Gary Stu who can do everything. He’s less extreme in this drama, but there is still some of his usual Super character. Does he have more down to earth roles? I’m happy to see high ratings for this drama. The drama plot isn’t fun though. Divorce, mistress. Nirvana’s Xia Dong actress is in this drama. I’ve never seen her in contemporary dramas before.

I had the misfortune of watching Going (South) to Nanyang once with Tong Lei. Back when they didn’t produce so many dramas. TL had such a whiny helpless role there. I haven’t been able to watch her in other dramas after that. Fans of Han Dong should also avoid that drama. His role is also v annoying and cowardly.
I haven’t been able to watch too much Zhang Rui after Flowers and Fog. I’m also still unable to watch his F&F co-stars Medina Memet, Li Sheng.
I like most of the other actors on this post other than TL, ZR.

The actress who plays Xia Dong is in Jin Dong’s current drama? Is her role pretty big (as a supporting, of course :D)? Xia Dong was one of my favorite characters in Nirvana, so I’m intrigued about her other works.
Speaking of which, two days in a row this drama beats Princess Agents in terms of CSM rating (both in the 2s though).

Her role is something like a 6th female lead? MYL’s younger sis.
Let’s count:
1. Ma Yi Li (lead)
2. Yuan Quan (MYL’s bff) 2nd lead. Some viewers compare this to OTJ’s Liu Tao, preferring YQ here.
3. Wu Yue (MYL’s ex-hubby’s office tryst/ new wife)
4. Chen Dao Ming’s ward who works at CDM’s restaurant
5. MYL’s mom
6. MYL’s younger sis
7. MYL’s maid.
I’m not sure of the ordering of the last 3 actresses. This is my best guess. At the end, the maid may have more screen time than Xia Dong?
MYL’s sis, Zi Qun, got married young. Supposedly ZQ & hubby are truly in love. But ZQ’s hubby doesn’t work, gambles. Sometimes he tries to do small biz, but not good at it and fails (a few times?). He gets hounded by loan sharks sometimes. ZQ works ~min wage jobs. Mom and MYL often nag her about her marriage/hubby. Mom drags ZQ to borrow $$ from MYL. But they often bicker/argue though the family care/love each other. ZQ often goes to MYL’s (soon to be ex-) hubby, asking him for $ loan. i don’t think they ever pay back their loans. Soon after, MYL’s husband wants to divorce MYL.
Actors for MYL’s family members are good, but the characters can get a bit frustrating. “Gambler” probably doesn’t have that much screen time overall. Mom is the “knife-mouthed tofu-hearted” type. I find this type a bit annoying already tbh. Too common in C dramas.
But alas, Asian dramas seem to use them so liberally. For sharp-tongued characters, I like the Lu Yi in Grow Up type. The criticizing poor job performance in a professional setting type. Not the naggy lady type.

This year I started feeling yucky when I saw ~ a dozen eps of Princess Weiyoung. Now I have to be careful w many Croton productions. Too many cases of Princesses being pursued by Princes. I need someone to save me from this epidemic.

I like PA probably bcuz i havent read the novel yet. So im glad that PA got 2% rating. I really admire Shawn and ZLY’s acting. Well, actually i like all the actors in PA.

Im curious about Jin Dong’s new drama. My friend is his biggest fan and she couldnt stop talking about his new drama (she saw the trailer in youtube i guess). Gonna check it when it gets subbed.

Anyway, did your friend read the synopsis of the drama? I think it’s pretty surprising how a plot like that is popular really. The female protagonist is not in the least likable.

Jin Dong’s drama (the one currently airing) is the only one at the moment that can give PA the run for the money. I saw the numbers on the 18th, it led at #2, while PA was #2 — the first time after weeks of PA reigning! But I guess for online views PA is still undefeated.

My friend is the type that when she likes an oppa/ge, she will watch everything with them no matter how stressful or crazy the story is… So, i guess, everything with jindong is her cup of tea haha. Such a loyal fangirl. Hehe

@lenje huaaa.. I think Advisor alliance or something (not sure about the title) is doing pretty good too. I havent tried any new drama yet.. Just trying to finish fox fall in love (only 2 episode left) and PA. I stopped watching zheng shuang’s rush summer bla bla bla. Lmao.. Excuse my bad memory when it comes to drama’s title.

I only read the synopsis, but the female lead falls in love with her best friend’s boyfriend. I was a little put off by that.

At first I thought you’re referring to Jin Dong’s drama with Tong Lei that Kappy posted above.
In Jin Dong’s Half … Life, the drama trailer does show Ma Yi Li’s character ( .. Zi Jun) eventually falls in love with JD’s character.
JD’s character has been in romantic relationship w MYL’s BFF (character name is Tang Jing) for 10 years at the beginning of the drama. Tang Jing and JD’s character are successful in biz. Both very career-minded. The 2 work together in the same office some of the time.
Tang Jing has been super nice to MYL up to the point where I’m watching.
I’m not liking the overall plot either. But they do a good job w the production.
