  2. 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

These are so epic. I am getting so excited now to watch. I must say that the casts looks great. Even the baddy looks really bad and wicked. I am so impatient for the first episode now. Liying looks awesome.

  3. 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

    squeeeeeeeeeeee!! >.<
Excited for this drama but all the torturing ='(

  4. 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

Saw the first two episodes. Seems like they substituted the time travel element with a secret identity…well it works still I guess. Not sure why they are so many ps background even though they shoot on site. And the music is not really smooth…And the voices sometimes don’t match the mouth. But, a lot of content so very fast paced. And LiYing looks really badass…so far so good. They really made yuwenyue more humane than in the book though. He stood out more than the rest.

It is a little awkward at times but other wise I think these are solid episodes. Hope they get better with time. Anyway I am happy to have something to watch well at least 4 days a week. Happy fan. 😊😘

I really want to discuss the content but I think it’s too early for everyone since I streamed it live. But I love how the hunting ground scenes play out…well except maybe I lol at yuwenyue final ‘arrow’

      • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

maymay I saw you said you could help with subbing can you help on youtube? The episodes on youtube allow fan subbing

        • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

working on it. but forgive my horrible translation. I wanted speed over absolute accuracy. And horrible with the timing.

        • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

Yeay, this is such a good news! I don’t think any sites has picked it up yet T.T so if you’re working on it, thanks maymay!

        • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

TIA for the effort guys! Wsiting for the sub version!

    • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

did they change that detail? i remember it was shawn’s final arrow who saved chu qiao.

      no streaming links yet. T___T

      • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

Yes. They made it so yuwenyue had the final arrow…though it wasn’t really known to all but yanxun. In fact they also made him nicer when he pretended to kill her fifth bro lin xi. I remember he just didn’t care in the book and bordered him killed. That’s why I said they just made him nicer all around. I suppose it would made her change of heart much more acceptable because I remember being put off by his cruel nature…

        • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

Omg I know.. He is def nicer in the drama than in the novel. I read the first few chapters of the novel and was shocked to find out that Yuwen Yue was the male lead.. He really didn’t seem nice at all…

    • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

Omg ikr. They’ve been doing voice dubbing for years, yet they still can’t get it right. They might as well just learn the standard accent and forgo dubbing =.=

      • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

I think there were issues with the dialogue (plagiarism?) in the first few episodes and couldn’t air it as is. Unfortunately they did not reshoot the scenes (due to budget/scheduling issues maybe) and so just had the dubbers say the new lines instead. That’s why the words are off from the lip movements.

  5. 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

So sad, still no engsub. I thought this drama would break surgeons fast sub record. Wonder why. I want to watch this so bad. Of course with engsub so i can understand it better.

She looks so freaking badass yet adorable with her babyface, haha (and still cant accept that she’s 30!)

    Dear subbers… Pleaseeeeee…

    • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

on 4udrama.com there are the first two subbed episodes

    • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

Happy if you have connection to rubbers can you please ask them if they can sub it on the youtube Chanel? The channel enabled subbing for the public. This is my first time commenting here but I just couldn’t resist I’ve been waiting on this drama forever and Hi Virtualvoyage family! I’m a silent lurker (now exposed). Also thank you so much for sharing the first two episodes links!

        Yes this please!! 😂

  6. 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

Just watched the first two episodes and I wish I wait for more episodes to come out but I guess I was in a big drama drought and need to something to escape and this is it.
Everyone’s in their A game. Though LGX is a bit stiff for me but maybe that’s his character? I’m still warming up to him and I’m weak for male character that have a bad start or relationship with female lead but eventually falls through…
ZLY’s eyes are so expressive and her chemistry (all those glances with Shawn) is killing me. Gah.
So far, up to my expectation. Is there an english translation of the book? Curious and want to read while waiting…Sorry if it’s been asked before. Thanks!

    • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

there is an English translation but it’s not completed

  7. 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

I was positively seething by the end of the second episode – good job, drama. This society needs to go down!! RISE CHU QIAO RISE
(Liying <3 So badass, so lovely.)

  8. 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

Love the episodes so far, just waiting for English subs. Zhao li ying is great so far. Is there going to be a full soundtrack so that we can download while waiting for the episodes? Can’t wait for more!!😀😀

  9. 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

WOOOO! So excited! No eng sub, but screw that I’m watching!
So at the first few seconds I was like no no no no, am I going to be sad or laughing this time? Why r they starting the very beginning with the darn usual amnesia? turns out it was acceptable since it did not annoy me, maybe the acting was better and I really liked the camera actions. This director seems to be better at showing realistic-ness than most recent ones

LOL was that RAIN LAU??? Glad they brought her back, she’s a very good actress.

Below will be a bit of spoiler of ep1 if you haven’t watched yet, I just love that bun sharing scene and got to point it out, it’s moving. It really proved how hungry the girls were, instead of seeing an overly nice (super unrealistic) girl who would give out all her food away, she shared it only. And then you see ZLY looking at the remaining food, seeming to feel grateful and also still hungry at the same time. It’s one of those powerful scene that don’t usually get portrayed correctly in modern days anymore for whatever reason they are, maybe some directors just wanted to create poor characters but don’t understand how “poor” even looks like or feel like. Some of these small details like this started out strong! And as far as how technology goes, at least those wolves were better too, better than the Greenhill fox and 3L3W foxes, I won’t be that cruel and expect them to use real animals but Greenhill and 3L3W foxes were, really!

I’m one of those no-tear people who didn’t even find the torturings on Hua qiangu sad, and Zhen Huan’s life that pitying if she can be extra-extra-extra smart when she is already so smart. But it was tear jerking at how cruel the princes killing those girls, the scene could’ve still been better but it was great overall, ZLY was trying to protect her one friend much more than the others, and still died in her arms, that part was sad and shakes out tears. Anybody can explain why Shawn Dow can’t just shoot his arrows at the evil guys instead and solve the whole problem?

Last comment, I accept ZLY’s slow motion fightings with wolves so far, at least it was cool. But LGX and that one gal’s fighting was just ridiculous! Wondering how it’s gonna look like when it’s ZLY vs LGX combat?

    • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

Shawn’s Yanxun is supposed to pretend to be easygoing on the surface, hence he is hanging out with the cool crowd so to speak. His father is a sworn brother of the King. But King being like all kings, are suspicious in nature. So even though YanXun’s home is at North Wei (more desert-like place), he is kept in the city as a hostage (though this is generally unspoken). He just acts more care-free so that the King is not suspicious of him or his family staging a coup.

So that is why even though he didn’t like the hunting he couldn’t exactly refuse. Well here in the drama he did refuse, but really in the book I think he was the only one hesitant on killing the slaves.

    • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

Heh i took a peak at that fighting scene between lgx and that girl, i did not like the way the execute it either. So many slow mo, and flashing lights it didn’t have an ancient feel at all. I hope they don’t do that through the whole series! I am waiting for the English sub. Hehr mean while ill jusy read everyone’s comments!

  10. 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

I am definitely enjoying this drama so far! The acting is definitely on point but I wish there were English subs! I could already see the chmeistfy between Chu Qiao and Yan Xuan rather than anything with Yuwue Yu. Liying’s eyes has so much power! The relationship that Princess Yuan Chun has with Yan Xuan is also very cute as well! Can’t wait!

  11. 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

I’m a bit confused. I thought it was Yan Xun, who uses her even though he doesn’t really love her.
But wasn’t it Yuwen Yue, who in the trailer says something like: “I have no feelings for her. I used her from the beginning. She can be a top spy.”? Does anyone really love, or are they all playing games? =/ Can someone please spoiler me? xD

I know Princess Agents is no romance drama, but I’m a sucker for romance. So I want to ship her with someone.

    • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

Yanxun loved her sincerely in the beginning especially when she stood by him through his family massacre. Only used her towards the end when he turned to the dark side.
In the drama, Yuwen yue uses her in the beginning but comes to love her towards the end.

I suppose their loveline projectory just switched at midpoint lol.
And while ChuQiao’s ultimate aim is not romance, romance is kind of part and parcel of this show I would say.

  12. 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

How come they only promote Lin Geng Xin? Isn’t Shawn Dou also a lead male character? Did they change the scripts to make Shawn a second lead?

    • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

Pretty sure Lin Gengxin’s character is the main male lead originally.

  13. 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

After reading some of the comments I am really glad I haven’t read this story. Because I have no expectations on how the characters or the main story will develop. And all the changes they have made or will make won’t bother me. *YEAY!*

    The not so good:

Some voice sync problems, but not anything major that it really bothered me.

The bad fight scene with the naked maid is *face palm*. They could have made that so much better if they hade taken away her spinning in the curtain thingy and focused on them fighting.

The CGI of the wolves and the spider weren’t a 100%, but it worked. Though while watching the episode in better resolution and on a bigger screen made it more obvious.

Also the close up shots of them riding during the hunting scenes was really off. The background and their too still body movements didn’t really work. It was kind of jarring and took me out of it.

    Things I really liked:

I loved the passing of both episodes. In no way did it feel like you didn’t understand anything because they didn’t take the time to explain it. I also loved that the choices and non choices the characters made had a good reason behind them.
And thank god they didn’t make this a slow introduction to a million characters. So I pray that Hunan doesn’t totally butcher it later on.

The acting of everyone is really good. At no point did I find anyone over acting or just not being able to act.. They all fit their rolls and do it so well.

Who ever translated and timed it this fast *heart*LOVE YOU*.

  14. 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

pls someone give link for live streaming ( hunan tv)…waiting like crazy for this drama huhu

  15. 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

I can’t never understand the English translations of these C_Drama titles……..ZLY is badass in this…waiting forward for the fully sub next episodes…..

  16. 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

Episode 3 and 4 is love. LOL. They changed a lot but I quite like how this story is turning out. The awkward moments when Xing Er is with YuWen Yue is kinda adorable. LOL. Not sure if I’m biased but I loved how LyiYing can looked genuinely puzzled without being an idiot!

    • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

Agreed! They were quite cute…I just saw the preview on Ep5 of her waking up lying next to him screaming. Eek.

      • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

I like the parrot that mimics Chu Qiao haha. Her interaction with Yuwen Yue is adorable too *___*

    • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

TT__TT…I have to watch with no Eng Sub….please tell me what kind of contest is that in episode 4?

      • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

It’s a competition to pick a personal attendant (don’t know the exact term) for Yuwen Yue, the chosen one has the “benefit” of sleeping with him…

Do you want me to rip the subtitles off of youtube for you?

        • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

OMG!!! Thanks a lot!!! Please please do….:D…the ones with Eng Sub in Ytube is not available in my country so I watched the ep. 3 and 4 raw….I can only understand 25% since the Mandarin is difficult (as always for ancient dramas)….

  17. 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

So did Yuwen Yue really killed Chu Qiao’s ffith brother? I’m just more curious about Yuwen Yue’s character and his relationship to come with Chu Qiao. I wonder what he will do for her? Cause just going off the trailer, Chu Qiao attempts to kill Yue so many times…

    • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

He killed him to show to Yuwen Huai that he had discovered who was the assailant. In actuality, her brother was already dying as he had touched the poisoned box with bare hands and his death was inevitable.

  18. 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

Anyone mind spoiling to me why Yuwen Yue cuts off his pinky?

    • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

Im pretty sure it is yan xun who cuts off his finger when he was imprisoned with chu qiao, as a sign of his determination to get revenge.

      • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

He cut his finger to save Chu Qiao, not a sign of his determination to get revenge

  19. 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

Agree with most of the comments here about the dubbing problem and CGI scenes. The dubbing problem was so obvious during the scene with the Gui Fei and Yu Wen Yue, otherwise this is a small problem. Those CGI background scenes in the first 2 episodes though… Why did they do that when it seemed like they actually did film in the actual location? It was rather uncomfortable and disappointing looking at the CGI background, and the scenes of them riding horses were rather meh… I hope this isn’t going to happen further into the drama, I would be so disappointed after what I saw in the BTS videos and trailer.

So far everyone is doing a great job acting wise and the plot is going in a pace I like. So lets hope HNTV don’t screw it up like HQG and the many other dramas out there.
ZLY is amazing here. You can tell she is trying out a totally new character compared to the ones she acted before, and she is doing a great job portraying the character. So smart and amazing! Especially in the 4th episode when the girl tore her clothes, the way she handled in was !!!
And Lord Gu, omg he is so so so unlikeable here. If not for his role in WuXin I would really hate him so badly. He has a way with his facial expressions that it makes me feel like punching him lol.
And this drama is giving me a second male lead syndrome which is a first for me oh no… Yan Xun IS SO ADORABLE! Especially when he sat on the table and stubbornly asked for tea hahaha!!!
LGX is stiff here. Maybe its because of his character but his acting is stiff. Especially the scene with him holding a bow and Shawn Dou talking to him. He was awkward holding the bow lol.

    • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

LOL My mind is Peach, we think the same! He was my best character in Wuxin so I didn’t hate him all that much in here, just like Rain Lau who is wicked too but they both r still so comedical, unwashable.

What disappointed me about the dessert is also because the pictures above showed how SUNNY it was, it was an actual place, but because of the technology there wasn’t even any shadows around in the least to create realistic effects. No sand flying or anything…
What really annoyed me the most was the ladies wearing white clothes that looked like my super old Korean babyvox team, they were all so so so beautiful in it but what they wear was totally modern from top to bottom. Why in the world is Mr. Gu shooting beautiful girls for, he looks like he loves girls, pretend if they were wearing ugly it would really be realistic despite it being ugly. But at least it was a nice scene overall, can’t find anything good to watch on a nice big tv so I’ll accept this scene.

  20. 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

me second male lead syndrome hahahaha, the real thing would begin after a few episode,at the first episode
probably chu qiao came from the rebellion group ,or probaly she was a general’s daughter who join the rebellion group to fullfile the purpose .

  21. 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

Up to ep 3 (subbed) so far it’s been a great start!
ZLY is so pretty, even when she is torn up by the wolves lol.

    • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

Not available in my country. So sad. Where can i watch it with engsub? The uploader make it not available😭

      • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

i dont thk its the uploader. Youtube has copyright laws n the original content is blocked in certain countries.

  22. 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

In Ep 4 Wuyen Yue accepts Chu Qiao as his maid/sleep buddy then cuts her finger with a knife in a very WTF moment. Does anyone else think that he only pretends to sleep with her, since the incense thing knocks her out?

    • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

If I’m not mistaken, he cut her finger for the blood so people will be sure that he deflowered her? Usually happen in C_Dramas…hehehe

      • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

Yeah, that’s what thought too. Although it’s not very gentlemanly of him not to use his own blood, but then a cut on him might arouse suspicion that he faked the deflowering.

        • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

That scene is weird cause shouldnt they be on the bed and let it bleed on the bed to mark it?? Why is the scenes cut like that?

Not sure what is his intention, I guess I will find out soon…..lol. Let me know girls, if you figured it out.

        • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

I thought it was like this too. But after I saw the parrot, I thought maybe he wanted to get the “so painful” reaction out of her so the parrot can mimic it? Since the ‘evil lady’ had such a big reaction and everyone in the household heard the parrot. But it might also just be for comedy sake lol. I honestly am confused about the finger part too, it was so sudden…..

        • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

agree with Peach below – it was for the parrot to mimic her “that hurts” so it can be heard through the household as if they had slept together. He also said “enough” so that the parrot would mimic it – dont think it was for humor but all premeditated as he made sure that she would be knocked out thereafter.

  23. 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

Where can I watch ep 5 princess agents?

  24. 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

Do Yuwen Yue finally sleep with her?? Or :Yan Xun first? D…#SpoilerPlease

    • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

Chinese novels are too conservative to have the OTP not be each other’s first time (part of the reason is also the historical setting). Chu Qiao only slept with Yuwen Yue.

      • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

Makes me curious to when they slept together? When they both love each other? I just can’t wait to know how Chu Qiao will fall in love with Yuwen Yue. In the drama right now, I just feel that Yuwen Yue already have feelings for her!!! Ahh…

        • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

Of course… Chu Qiao isn’t someone who can be forced. In the book she falls for him way later though, which is why it really isn’t a great read imo.

      • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

Based upon the opening and closing credits, their foreplay will be all of those KungFu moves, sword and dagger plays positions….

  25. 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

The dubbing issue is getting more serious in the recent episodes. It was a little disturbing to see how off the voiceover is most of the time. I don’t think the dubber is at fault here since they are so professional, so why is it off? Timing issue? Hopefully this doesn’t go on in future episodes….

    • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

“Yu Wenyue, I’ve never felt that I owe anyone. You are the only exception. I owe you too much..”

      • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

Can you please explain bout the meaning of Xing Er and Yuwen Yue names? I meant, in the episode 5, Shawn’s character mentioned that Xing matched with Yue or something like that? Thank you in advance….

        • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

Xing er means star. Yue means moon. Shawn was teasing that Yuwenyue have chu qiao a name that matches his

        • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

Yuwen Yue name is written as 玥 which is a legendary pearl in Chinese mythology.

        • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

In my dialect anything related to YueLiang(Moon) is never use for males while Xing(Star) is exclusively for makes.

That is why I really confuse with their names. I thought XingEr was Xing as in gold. While I didn’t get with YWY’s Yue at all.

        • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

I think it’s a pun on their names. Granted Yuwen Yue’s “yue” doesn’t really mean moon…but it sounds like “yue”(moon) all the same

    • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

The dubbing issue has been distracting me from the beginning. Shawn Dou’s dubbing felt off very quickly. The camera work is also a bit too type A. The wiring and action too. Abrupt and drastic editing. It is meant to add suspense, but it also feels whiplash-ey. Not entirely good or bad, but not too pleasant to watch.

The voices to dramas like Ode To Joy 2 are recorded the same time they filmed the drama? The speaking voices there match so much better. Audio vs visual. None of the dubbing distraction here. OTJ2 actors there all speak with nice, standard accents. No one sounded bad, and voices still match.

Shawn Duo looks sizzling boiling hot on the horse!!! Especially the one when he was wearing full armor with red cape and the one where the horse standing on its rear #fanning

Honestly after NiF, no drama that can really satisfied me. I compared every single scene in every drama that I watch with NiF…not good….I having difficulty in enjoying dramas anymore.

What is a piece of jade-like plate that the bad girl accused XingEr of having in her bundle?

It’s supposed to be something erotic. I didn’t get a clear look..maybe an erotic carving or the likes. Because she accuse Xing er of seducing Yue

Zhao Liying has never been one to disappoint. I can say nothing bad about her acting.

The drama, on the other hand:

    Pros:

    – The CGI is definitely a step up from what Chinese productions have been doing. It’s more realistic and less gamer-style.

    – Drama portrays some characters with more realistic aspects, like supporting characters aren’t all Mary Sues and absolutely giving. The first episode, for instance, when all the [email protected] were huddled together, one of the side characters gave ZLY a piece of her food (versus the whole thing.) Some side villains are also portrayed as having very sadistic tendencies (and maybe too sadistic; there’s no coddling the audience here.)

    – Fighting choreography/sequences were all very well done and executed. It all looked well-rehearsed.

    – Zhao Liying. Rain Lau. 🙂

    Cons:

    – Distractions: Too much mid-air acrobatics. Some characters (even ZLY) look like they can fly. That’s a tad exaggerative.

    – The dubbing – I read that due to copyright issues, they had to re-dub the scenes to remove some of the script. Thus, the lipsync is mismatched and it’s distracting to watch.

    – The cinematography is also either well or it’s done very poorly. Like that first scene with the assassin. It seems they placed way more emphasis on how the assassin moved to cover her half [email protected] body than there needed to be. Too gratuitous I must say. Made the drama seem cheap.

    – My gripe with a lot of dramas in general, too, is that there’s a lack of realism with the sets. This drama, in particular, looked a little TOO clean. There’s nary a dirt to be found (except on ZLY’s face.) Plus some characters wore CORAL lipstick and CORAL nail polish. Did that even exist back then?? The outfits the characters wear are also too modern looking. Not very time-fitting at all.

    – Lin Geng Xin & Shawn Dou – neither main leads are attractive to me lol. LGX almost portrays no expressions other than dismay and annoyance. It’s kinda boring. On the other hand, at least they both don’t look like they’re too dainty to be generals.

    – ZLY seemed to be in a state of passive inaction right now. She enacts revenge because they mistreated her or the ppl she cares about. But aside from that one time when she hits Rain Lau accurately, I haven’t seen her do much at all. Heck, even when LGX killed her bro, she wasn’t seething with anger and lusting for murder towards LGX. She just acknowledged that she’s not strong enough to be a victor/conqueror yet. It seemed more like a polite convo they were having than a realization that he’s now one of her numero uno enemy.

    – Some story sequences do not make sense. For example, an old grandpa who likes to strangle women to death as a hobby? Even though he’s logical enough to hatch wicked plots with his grandson? Kinda farfetched.

    – Side characters are also kind of weird looking. I’m usually not one to be too fussy about looks, but some side characters look really weird and are bad actors. Like one of the sisters had such bad acting. It was cringe-y. Why they even allowed her to stay in the drama, I have no idea. Maybe they ran out of money.

I’m hoping to see some improvements with how these characters develop over time, but so far I’m seeing more cons than pros.

      * Nail polish and lipstick were used through Chinese history. I haven’t found anything about the specific color coral, but it does seem like there was a great variety of colors used.

Agree with most of the comments here. Saw the latest episode and the camera work was awful. I have never seen such awful camera work before in a cdrama. That particular scene where Yu Wen Yue brought Xing Er to the secret room to help with her injury, the camera work was terribly horrible. What is with the shaky slow close-up??? It looked like someone holding a camera and pervertly sneaked up onto them. Smh.

Agree about the old grandpa. His character don’t make sense to me. And LGX is awful so far. I am gonna push it to the fact that his character is supposed to be like this, because I know he can be a decent actor as seen in BBJX.

Its a pity the dubbing is faced with such an issue. It would have made the drama much better and comfortable to watch.
Honestly so far the drama is good in terms of story, but it is being dragged down by the awful CGI background, dubbing issue and TERRIBLE camera work. 8 episodes in and I can say I am slightly disappointed and no longer as hyped as when I first saw the trailer.

    • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

With the acrobatics and some scenes, this feels a bit like a wuxia more than a historical drama and I am starting to just see it that way now.

The lipstick and nail polish in some scenes do bother me. I wish the lipstick was matte and not shiny. I think they would make more sense.

The old grandpa is just a sicko. It makes sense to me because we have people like that in real life. They don’t have a mental problem, they are just sick and enjoy torturing/raping women. Some are even really smart calculative and manipulative, which aligns with Yuwen Xi. He gets a kick out of killing women and drinks until he falls asleep. I just see him as someone who has given himself completely to his vices.

The director did such a bad job in some scenes. The unnecessary slow-motion and wind, plus some camera angles are weird. He also likes blurring the background or people in between the camera and the character he wants to focus on. I don’t remember the last time I was so critical of a director. Isn’t he the director of Scarlet Heart? I am hopeful the cinematography will get better since the trailer showed plenty of promise. I agree that the camera work is dragging down this drama. If they had better camera work and dubbing, it would be so much better.

Besides that, I actually like the story and I like both male leads. I actually think acting is good, no one really bothers me. I find that LGX is doing a good job, I have picked up on some of his micro-expressions. His character is too serious, but I am still able to get a glimpse of what he is thinking and feeling. That is a big plus from me.

Taking all this is not as good quality as I expected. I was hoping for something like Nirvana, but so far it is enjoyable and has promise.

      • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

I am agree with everything you said regarding director and cinematographer. LGX is doing decent acting. I can really see the hairline crack on the icy surface when XingEr wiped his robe. Talking about wooden acting, noone beat Nazha.

I like Yue-Xing love-hate relationship. According to what I read in most forums, Yue will falls hard for her half way in the novel. But I can see they make it much earlier in the drama. Waiting forward for XingEr to reciprocate. I try to ignore all the bad things in this drama by focusing on the Yue-Xing’s romance….

        • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

I really liked how LGX did that scene and the one afterward where he holds the handkerchief. It was very subtle, but very well done.
Yeah, I think they moved that up a little. He already seems aware of her presence, which confuses him. It is understandable since you want viewers to connect with the lead. I am really liking their romance so far, even if they do have a sort of love-hate with more hate than love.

Regarding the creepy grandfather character, he’s more like great uncle to Wuyen Yue. They toned his character down a bit, from what I remember from the book his fav side hobby was actually raping his female slaves to death (not just strangling them for sh*ts and giggles)

Regarding the creepy ass grandfather character,he’s WuYen Yue’s great uncle. From what I remember of the book, they toned down his character a lot. In the book, his fav hobby was raping his female slaves to death not just strangling them for sh*ts and giggles. I guess his character is supposed to represent the depraved upper class and how they regard their slaves as toys to be played with then disposed of.

Anyone know if the YouTube channel uploading and doing subs; if that is the show’s official production YouTube channel?

I would hate for it to get some copyright violation half way through the season and then us viewers would get shafted.

I think it is the official channel. From what they are saying, etc. It seems legit.

That’s so awesome to hear. I really can’t understand why companies haven’t done this already.

They make money off of YouTube, YouTube makes money off ads, viewers are happy they get to watch the shows. Seems like a win/win all around 🙂

Man…I was waiting for more episodes first then watch them all in one go when I have time. Well they really got a good (or interesting enough) beginning to make me wanna continue watching but things kind of die down a bit now. I’m not in love with Shawn Dou at all and he is totally weird at times but I kind of want to continue bc of him and ZLY together.

Wassup with ZLY fainting all the freaken time jeez? Thought she was going to be strong. She clearly knows how to fight, and fighting is a SKILL so her amnesia shouldn’t affect it, she still got her other skills too but why is the fighting skill gone for what? And she was able to fight wolves and strong people, but when Rain Lau was hitting her sisters on that bridge, it’s like she can’t control Rain Lau? See, that’s the power of RAIN!

Well, about the handkerchief fighting scene, ZLY if you do not know, just stand still, don’t do anything and just let that handkerchief hit you because no matter how hard it’s thrown at you, you won’t get hurt from it at all, it was a lot of great jumps from just a tiny handkerchief!!! And it give chances to that ugly girl to show her fighting moves that looked pretty darn good although her acting may be very bad. Wassup with getting all the jealousy girls back too? I thought it was going to be like a fighting drama with great plot, I was disappointed when that jealous girl in purple came into the picture. Another worthless character that wouldn’t make anyone look smarter/cooler bc they’re overly way too worthless for anyone to be better just because of them.

Come on, that old fart…he’s too old, if all the ladies try to kill him at the same time they would succeed, and if they will get kill by killing a royalty, well, they were gonna die either way anyway. It’s worth killing or attempting to kill him.

I really don’t like LGX character, he is good at being emotionless and at least he didn’t annoy me, but I do not like that type of character at all…they’re totally unrealistic. You can be a serious guy who don’t laugh often and I get that, but those people DO still laugh at times, and LGX is like a total robot. Why don’t they just not play as humans anymore but as robots-robots, I don’t get characters like that, Shifu Wallace, Xue qi, Nazha….etc. They are obviously never convincing. I guess the only good thing is that ZLY did acted out her parts well and made it watchable. As far as acting (main characters) goes they’re still at least watchable but I feel bad now that the storyline is heading to one of those typical asian themes. I wish the fightings will get better, the fightings has yet to surprise me.

The maids’ storyline is so typical and so annoying, the sisters are super annoying too!! Good lord why does Xing er have to keep protecting these ding dongs! I actually like LGX in here! Never read the novel, he is actually a complex character, can’t let the enemies see what he is up too, got to hide under that robotic cold expression! The second male lead guy just comes in and out of the green hill resident with a big smile all the time, a long way to go, let’s see how these characters will unfold. Please, less maids and sister stuff!! Oh man!!

  33. 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

I am scratching my head while reading every ones comments. It feels like at times I am watching a different drama than others.

Yes the camera work, the backgrounds and the CGI aren’t close the being great. And at times it becomes jarring. Other than that I don’t have a problem with the setting or the props used.

The dubbing problem is a problem, although I get it if they had to change the dubbing because of the conflict of plagiarism. So I have just decided to ignore the dubbing problem. After all the extensive reshooting they would have had to do aren’t feasible.
Why they hadn’t gone over the script before starting shooting is beyond me. On the other hand I don’t in general get the plagiarism claims for spoken lines in Chinese drama. If someone is more insightful in this please educate me.

I get that some think the stoic wooden icy manly lead is nothing new, even a bit redundant. But I find it kind of off that we criticize the actor for acting the roll as it should be portrayed. I think if anyone should be too blamed for this it is the script righter, the director or even the person behind the novel/s.

As for the storyline (of ZLY’s character constantly being barged by the other maids) it is for once made with a better intent than many other dramas. The big picture is that she is in the way of the badies getting close to or to kill off LGX’s character. Now yes this story has been told a lot, where prince charming comes in and saves the girl. But instead of LGX’s character rescuing her he is actually enforcing her to deal with it herself.

When it comes to her fighting ability; if I am not interpreting the first 8 episodes wrong; she does have the “raw” talent but it hasn’t been honed. Which means when you are fighting with someone that has been trained you are at a disadvantage. And don’t forget she does have amnesia. So we don’t know if she’s been trained or how extensive that training may have been.
(About amnesia most people even if they remember, that they could do something. they have to relearn/retrain your brain to do them. Whether that is what they are going for in the drama though I don’t know.)

And I think some forget that ZLY’s character is hold back by the fact that LGX’s has a control on her weakness; her sisters. Sure I would have loved to see more of her distain/hatred or even defiance but that would have slowed down the pacing of the story moving forward.

I can’t find any problems with the magical or non realistic fights, in a historic context; because I can’t remember them actually stating that it is purely a realistic historic drama.

For me the great things I am taking away from the first 8 episodes are that I love the story and the acting. I love the reasoning and the nuances to why and how the characters act. Sure I would wish they hade made the main characters a bit more “cold blooded” or showed them being more calculating, but you get hints of it here and there.

I am enjoying the show very much – the plot is moving at a good pace and I like the intrigue. There have been too many period dramas focused on romance lately so this is a nice change! I just ignore the dubbing and the green screens and focus on the acting. So far only CQ & YY feel like complex characters – the others are simpler and straightforward in their characterisation.

    Hiiii, everybody! 🙂
After finally watching all the episodes without English subs, then watching them with subs, I feel confident enough to share an opinion.
I must say, though, that I am not a book reader, everything I say is based on what I see in the tv show.
Overall: OK, I like it, I will continue to watch. But, considering the topics, which are presented in the story, I expected a more serious tone. Ancient dramas usually show life in those timse through somewhat idealized lenses, which is understandable because they are meant to entertain first and educate later, but this drama dove straight into the ugly aspects of life in a feudal society and being closer to real life would have enhanced the impact of storytelling. Now, that said, this is a minor complaint and it doesn’t really bother me.
What bothers me sometimes is the weird cinematography and the dubbing issues. Many of you already voiced your complaints about them, so I don’t really see a point in repeating.

So far, everybody does a good job with the role they have been given and I don’t really have much to complain about. May be that the characters themselves are not very nuanced at this point, so I can’t expect too much from them. I hope this changes later because we are either stuck at minimalist expressions (ZLY, LGX) or over the top stuff (evil servant girl, or super evil grandpa, TBH, his personality borders on caricature most of the time, extremely unpleasant to watch).
Random observation: SD+ZLY=fun times, ZLY+LGX=meeh (I can’t board this ship for some reason, which is a shame because they are the OTP). Also, I have forgotten how hot Wang Yan Lin, I wish his character wasn’t so evil and he smiled more genuinely. His smiles in Wuxin made me melt … X_X
Thanks you all for your input. I enjoyed reading and comparing opinions. 🙂

      Welcome everybody. I’m new here.

I agree that it’s not Hollywoodstandard but I’m confident in 2-5 years they will increase on a higher level. I must admit as a new Fan of ZLY I look beyond this small details.

  36. 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

@Nell123 I hope this changes later because we are either stuck at minimalist expressions (ZLY, LGX)….. My feeling :ZLY seems to act like a seething volcano ( a cold blood hidden hate) that wants to break free. A danger for her further enemies. She represent a mix of Legolas/Tauriel (The Hobbits).

However everytime she plays a new character in such a good and perfect way. That’s really so impressive that every answer lies.

  37. 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

This series officialy becoming my new obsessesion. So far the battle of ‘the 14th Prince’, for me, the winner is LGX (for now), but I doubt I’m gonna jump to another ship, I’m hooked already. The dubb is kinda irratated me at the first 2 episodes, but later on I’m more focusing on the interactions between Xing Er and Yuwen Yue so all the flaws seems like non-exist to me. I have to admit. Shawn looks charming too, especially with his bright mischievous smile, but I always have a soft spot for a cool aloof male lead and is like icing to the cake when I found out YY will love XE first, I love that in such early episodes, the series already showed us a glimpse of interest from YY toward XE, can’t wait to see when QC reciprocate this feeling. And I have to admit, I laugh quite a lot of the dejavu feeling of TJOF that showed up here and there in this series (male lead with white / light blue wardrobe – check, ice cold male lead – check, the bell (LOL) – check, male lead helping the female lead several times already but the female lead always fainted when that happen – check, male lead sexily coughing blood – check) 😀

Who are the main couple in Princess Agents? Yan Xun or Yuwen Yue. Also who falls in love first between the main couple?

    • 127 thoughts on “Princess Agents Discussion Post Week 1: Episodes 1 – 8

Yuwen Yue is the male lead. I think he falls in love first. You can see that in episode 13 and 14. He tries really hard to protect Xing Er. He doesn’t really seem to know that he is in love with her though. He has been getting jealous a lot lately, too.
