Real life couple Tang Yan and Luo Jin reunites again for an upcoming modern drama Gui Qu Lai (归去来), described as youthful and emotional, with their fathers being at odds with each other. I think it’s based on a novel (memory failing). Will try to post the synopsis after work (12 hours later!). The story follows four students studying abroad, searching for intellect and love. Our male lead is in a relationship with another girl in the beginning before his father forces the love birds to separate, seeing how her family doesn’t benefit his side at all. Our female lead is a smart girl, pursuing a degree in law, unique in that she rises to the top based on her own efforts. The two students meet and fall in love but a crisis comes their way. The hero is involved in exposing their dads’ criminal activity and our heroine is caught in between as a witness. Ultimately, the culprit is revealed and there’s a heavy price to pay. Everyone grows up in the process, understanding humanity and the value of life, returning to the path of justice.
Directed by Liu Jiang (The Battle At Dawn, talking in the video below) and written by Gao Xuan (One Step Away) and Ren Bao Ru, shooting begins in July with an ambition of 50 episodes.
When asked why he could invite both Tang Yan and Luo Jin together, he said there were two reasons, one being no one else is as suitable as they are, two being this is such a good script, they couldn’t refuse.

Omg yes! I know people are complaining but I love seeing them tougher. Since they’re a real couple, the chemistry will be 10x better and more real. 😊 ( low-key, really hope they both will get marry soon~)

I thought they might not work together again now they are officially a couple but this is great news as I really like them together onscreen. I look forward to finding out what the plot is too when Kappy has time to post! 😀

I thought it’s adapted from a novel as well, but I couldn’t find the original novel anywhere. But it must be an adaptation! I remember there were rumours floating around that Zhao Liying was going to take this, then it became Tang Yan. I thought Gui Qu Lai must have a huge following, but I couldn’t find anything on Baidu or Douban about the novel. There is an entry on the drama itself though. Apparently the plot is about four Chinese students studying in the Ivy League colleges, how they grow and whatnot. The story should start after they come back (because of the title), so hopefully no awkward English. The synopsis sounds very… normal, which I guess is a good sign.

There are only few RL couples that I love seeing again and again in a drama or a movie. These 2 definitely are 1 of them. Well, I really hope that this will be a drama, where both are alive and happy at the end…their last drama left me hanging with the ending..not even speaking how the scriptwriters butchered the novel.
