For me the best drama and an adaptation of a novel (not like General and I, which novel I loved and the drama lost me after they changed to much), it has happy ending, great point for the chinese drama (to many sad endings) and it has wonderful ost and funny behind the scenes….
Mark Chao and Yang Mi were so great cast for these two lovers, I have cried so much. The behind scenes were great too, You could see how Mark and Yang Mi cryied at some scenes after the filming and couldn’t stop….
The other cast were great too, I loved all characters.
Till the end and forever…love the whole show.

He he never saw the questions below 😀 :
      1. Yes and more, loved the whole locations and scenery
      2. SuSu jumping to her death and eyes removal…I cried at both scene and it left me with very deep feeling. Least favorite thing – hmm I wanted have some more Dijun and Fengjiu’s scenes….
      3. BT loved MY as her brother and YH maked her fall in love
      4. Yes and more, now I only see them , don’t know how I can wathc the movie in sommer…Did Dilraba and Vengo surpass your expectations – yes, she was so lovely and lively and he was so great in Dijun-character acting
      5. no it has to be so….
      6. she wouldn’t fall so much for him, he would hide his feelings from the beginning and the would fight poor Susu…
      7. Would you consider the drama a successful adaptation? – YES

  2. 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

Well, you might have guessed. I watched only Dijun and Fengjiu’s part, so my comments will be based on that.
Casting wise, no one can beat them. Their on screen chemistry is a top notch.
    Story wise, meh.
The drama doesn’t do any justice to its original storylines and characters. And YES, I KNOW this is a Ten Miles drama.

  3. 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

    1. Yes and so much more! It made me love (almost) every character, even the ones I didn’t notice much in the book like Li Jing, Si Ming and Lian Song.
    2. Favorite thing is a Dijun and Fengjiu’s part. Their romance outshined the main couple for me, and I find myself anticipating their scenes each episode. Least favorite thing would be Su Jin and Xuan Nu’s scenes – too many of them.
    3. I don’t think she loved MY. It’s more of a fatherly love since he was her teacher.
    4. Mark definitely exceed expectations. I still don’t find him traditionally good-looking, but his portrayal of Ye Hua and his expressions made me squeal. I also love Yang Mi’s portrayal of sassy Bai Qian. And needless to say, Dilraba and Vengo are irreplaceable as Dong Hua and Feng Jiu.
    5. I think Ye Hua’s removal of eyes is the pivotal part. Anything he or others do after would be seen as actions out of guilt, so she would still feel betrayed.
    6. Su Su wouldn’t have doubted Ye Hua’s love for her.
    7. Yes!

    1. Did the drama do a good adaptation of the Novel? What would you like changed?
    – Didn’t read novel, good drama itself? 6.5/10
    – Change the pace, the pace is really really too slow, the beginning was only a bit faster, and at ep 40 – 43 ish was so much better, but then everything die down again very quickly. Most of the time, a total of 5-6 episodes straight in a row could have always been summed up into one single episode, or two.

    2. What is your favorite thing about the drama? Naturally, Least favorite thing.
    – Ali is the favorite thing, and clothings are really beautiful, even maids (not sure if they’re called maids) in the heaven wear as pretty as a princess/high rank person

    3. Do you guys think that BT is actually in love with YH, or does she love MY but just doesn’t know it?
    – Don’t know, not that convince by anyone’s love feelings besides YH

    4. Did Mark and Yang Mi bring their respective characters to life? Did Dilraba and Vengo surpass your expectations?
    – Pretty much
    – No, they were the biggest time waster. They had a very inconsistent story together, always going back and forth without any improvement in their relationship and also on their acting. I expected at least their time in the palace or mortal realm should be better but it was bad. Especially that one part with all the magic power making people fell into the pond and DLRB saves the king, I was so like…Errrr…

    5. Would things have been different if YH’s mother had accepted Su Su initially as a wife for her son and kept her there after the whole eyes debacle and treated her right? Would BT still feel betrayed by YH?
    – one sentence, YH’s mother is also a B***

    6. What would have happened had YH ignored conventions and simply brought the ‘mortal’ Su Su to heaven instead of trying to hide her?
    – don’t know, but the writer’s heaven is a pretty stupid one.

    7. Would you consider the drama a successful adaptation?
    – Again didn’t read novel but I think it’s a successful adaptation, even if I read it I don’t mind any few changes here and there. It’s just the way people are presented in the drama that might have make things less interesting as it should be.

      Good assessment of the drama!

I read the first 7 chapters of the novel. The drama definitely expanded, or dragged out, events.

Both novel and drama are quite conventional. By comparison, the novel from which 3L3W author supposedly plagiarized is unconventional- no villains, not even the seemingly mean jerk Jade Emperor.

Immortals forbidden to have feelings like (hormone-induced love) between two human beings is pretty standard in Chinese fiction/mythology. Dating/marriage between a human and a natural-born immortal or human-turned-immortal who ascended to heaven is also forbidden. For writers in this genre, these are elements of conflict that they love to use. Thus, I wouldn’t expect human Su Su to be treated as an equal in heaven.

  5. 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

I loved it! One big point it gets from me is that it stayed true and faithfully to the book with small changes here and there to make the story flow better. Another surprising discovery for me is Mark zhao. I was really disappointed with his casting at first because he visually didn’t match yehua although he looked good as mo yuan, but he impressed me and his acting made up bounds of heaps for it. I swallowed back my words; never judge a book by its cover. He’s perfect as yehua and I’m actually glad whoever chosed him, chosed him.

  6. 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

I have to say, it was one of the most successful adaptations of a not so great novel (in terms of flow, writing, originality, etc.). The drama was incredibly faithful to the book, with the changes adding to the flow of the storyline, as avarachika said. As a standalone drama, 3L3W was entertainingly addicting at best, and inconsistent and a little all over the place at worst (7/10?).

As much as I love Feng Jiu and Dong Hua, I think it’s moreso due to the fact that Dilireba and Vengo are so beautiful onscreen and next to each other, that I love love love them. Their story (both in the drama and their own book) was messy and inconsistent as well, so I can only attribute my love for them to the actors and the general characterizations (Dong Hua as a black belly block of ice and Feng Jiu as an adorable fur ball).

Regarding Ye Hua and Bai Qian, I’ve thought long and hard about why I couldn’t be invested in their relationship. Bai Qian had too many love interests and her personality was so different (as Susu and Bai Qian) that I couldn’t fathom how Ye Hua could love both Susu and Bai Qian the goddess in the same way without seeing one as the other. (Real question: did Ye Hua love Bai Qian because she’s Bai Qian or because she’s a continuation of Susu?). Perhaps it’s more realistic that the female lead had many “tao hua”, but realism is not something that this drama strives for. Kinda defeats the point of three lives and three worlds if you’re going to love someone different in each one, IMHO.

In terms of acting, I recognize that Mark exceeded expectations, especially since the odds were against him (physical appearance-wise). Yang Mi pulled her weight, but I didn’t really feel that much chemistry between them, so couldn’t get invested.

    • 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

Exactly how I wonder about YH moving on to BQ too. Susu and BQ has really different personalities, Susu seems more dependent on a man while BQ is an independent person. At least he was able to tell a fake Susu near the end…
Another thing is how BQ quickly somewhat date YH and sleeps next to him. Maybe Ali is cute and she feels bad for him, no problem with accepting a kid but for accepting the father is a bit too soon and quick.

I almost want to say they both are bad parents after ep 45 or so later on, I don’t see them revolving their world around Ali as much as in real life parents should do.

    • 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

Actually I think one of the big reasons YH opened up real fast to Susu is because she is YS- the image he saw in his dream- In his words, he found something he lost after thousands of thousand years- the familiarity
So he will be opened and loved BQ too because she is SY
While Susu are BQ have different personality their basic is the same… Their differences are caused by situation, status and capability. YH understand both BQ and Susu really well.. He just really got her down haha

As BQ she is a fox princess. FJ mentioned her clan can only love/ be with 1 person in her life. And without BQ realized it I believe her love for him as Susu is still there… That’s why she let him do whatever he wanted because she definitely let his 2nd even met her when they were engaged

  7. 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

    1. Did the drama do a good adaptation of the Novel? What would you like changed?
Yes, it is a pretty good adaption considering how d other adaptions have gone awry (Of course none of the adaptions can compare with Nirvana in Fire). The things I would like to change are making story crisper , some characters were given tooo much importance like the princess who likes YH or d ghost queen. Just to make 58 episodes, they don’t need to drag the story. Also though I loved FJ and DH scenes, but they changed their story compared to d novel, so I am scared , whenever they do an adaption of d Pillow Books, how will they give justice to this change as people who have not read d novels will feel this trajectory of their romance is correct and may not accept whenever the adaption is out.

    2. What is your favorite thing about the drama? Naturally, Least favorite thing.
My fav thing is d beautiful location, lighting, costume, make up- in short the technical aspect. Also I loved how d actor brought so much subtle depth to d Li Jing’s character. In the novel I never felt bad for his character but in d drama, I did. I can only credit Zhang Bin Bin’s excellent acting. Least fav thing is the CGI for the animals like d black dragon, snake or d ghost realm animals used during d fight. It looked really artificial.

    3. Do you guys think that BT is actually in love with YH, or does she love MY but just doesn’t know it?
I think she really loved YH or else she won’t have asked d potion to forget him as she knew without d potion it is impossible to move on and forget him with time. For MY, she felt grateful, awe, respect and also guilty. She never saw herself in par with him, for her, he is a God that can only be respected, and also she can never imagine MY having any worldly desires, for her he is perfect. Her master for life.

    4. Did Mark and Yang Mi bring their respective characters to life? Did Dilraba and Vengo surpass your expectations?
Yes, Mark was perfect. I loved Yang Mi as Susu and BT. But not when she was SI. She never looked like a guy. Her movements were tooo girly and her body shape should have been hidden better as it showed clearly she was a woman. If I had not read the novels, then yes Dilraba and Vengo surpassed my expectations. In d drama, she was too delicate, and pretty weak compared to d novels. In d novels, she was very naughty, clumsy and naive only with DJ considering with how many times DJ managed to fool her. At the same time, she had her pride and ethics. Vengo was good, but novel DJ was just awesome that it very difficult to bring him to life. He was such a flawed hero.

    5. Would things have been different if YH’s mother had accepted Su Su initially as a wife for her son and kept her there after the whole eyes debacle and treated her right? Would BT still feel betrayed by YH?
BT has been a character who can not tolerate any kind of betrayal. She is 100% loyal to her people and she expects that from them. She does not forgive be it Li jing, her snake servant or be it YH. She is a very proud woman who has lived for a long time. So it won’t have made any difference of YH’s mother how she treated her coz for her YH matters. She does not give a damn for his mother. Also BT is a queen herself. She has her own set of principles. How can she forget, her humiliation?!

    6. What would have happened had YH ignored conventions and simply brought the ‘mortal’ Su Su to heaven instead of trying to hide her?
Same thing would have happened for him like how his 2nd uncle was stripped of being the crown prince and was treated pretty badly. Also who knew Susu was BT?! Just imagine if Susu was actually a mortal, and BT was another character, how would have BT felt? She was already once ridiculed when her engagement with 2nd prince went kaput. YH loves and treats BT well coz she was Susu. Before that, he was lukewarm of his engagement with BT. So these ‘what if’ scenarios should just be left alone

    7. Would you consider the drama a successful adaptation?
    One of the better ones.

    • 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

Omg yes! I didn’t like SI either. I thought she looked weird too (with her wide forehead and petite figure) to pull off a manly character. She doesn’t have that ‘manly’ aura. In many ways I think she kind of looked like a shrimp. Joe Chen, though a much more feminine person, manages to be convincing as a man despite never looking like one. It’s about the aura they project. With YM and the choppy editing in the beginning, it almost turned me off the series.

Dilraba was a nice surprise – in fact, I’d go so far as to say she outshined YM. It’s almost rude to comment, but YM was not convincing as “most beautiful woman” in the drama at all. Dilraba outmatched her in that respect. And her feelings and emotional scenes were very convincing. I was absolutely sure she was in love with DJ (another miscast), unlike YM who wavered between loving, hating and not knowing how she feels.

Vengo was alright, but his wig, costume, pretty much everything gave off such a severe vibe. Almost creepy. It was hard to root for him and it baffles me why Dilraba would love him so hard, but some people are masochists, so I’ll just drop that part.

      • 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

Also, Mark Zhao was amazing as per usual. I was kind of doubtful he can pull off a role with so much gravitas (like Mo Yan), but he passed with flying colors. I always knew he was a good actor (ever since Black & White as a newcomer, which was astonishing since he even beat out Vic Zhou!) so I wasn’t too worried, but some lingering doubts remain. He had crushed my expectations and then some.

I do agree that the side characters for this drama did very well.

ZBB was also ah-mazing. A+ for that convincing love sick puppy look. I only felt pity for him throughout the entire drama even though he was pretty despicable as far as a husband and father goes. For a guy who’s only 25, he holds a lot of potential.

Ah Li was too stinking cute. Not a brat in the least, which is utterly impossible for kids at that age. But I’ll bite ‘cus he was just too tootin’ adorable. The fact that he doesn’t think poorly of his mom for abandoning him since birth is also completely unrealistic, but again the cuteness factor erases all my bitterness about that and only raises his appeal.

Finally Si Ming FTW! For a guy who barely registers as an important character in the drama, he makes up for it in loads and bushels with his charm and funny personality. He seemed rigid and somewhat sycophant in the beginning, but put him in the same scene with Dilraba and he becomes this adorable and nosy do-gooder. He really makes me question if he was working for DJ or Dilraba.

It’s an unfair comparison when BQ never chase YH but FJ is the one that chase DH lol
BQ is sassy and queeny and is 90 year older than YH – gugu and I don’t see Dilra pull it off not to mention playing different roles too
Even her chemistry with vengo wasn’t that convincing

        • 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

Si Ming BTW! So charming. I enjoyed his gossips with Feng Jiu. I liked FJ except when she wad moping over Dijun

        • 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

The feeling of BQ is a mixture of love and hate so I guess YM did great for her role? FJ and BQ’s love isn’t the same in case you are confuse

        • 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

@Ara – it’s not fair to say they’re the same characters going through the same circumstances, sure. But the degree of acting skills needed to convince viewers of their ardor is pretty much the same. I get why BQ fell for YH and should display more loving feelings (because of his sacrifices and genuinely good personality), but I absolutely do not understand why FJ would fall for DJ. And the fact that I only felt surface chemistry from BQ towards YH (in spite of everything he did) vs passionate ardor from FJ for DJ (who again, doesn’t deserve it) convinces me even more that Dilraba did a much better job. Because despite how terrible DJ is, she still shows that she loves him. Despite how YH is, BQ is still kinda wooden. The difference is night and day.

        • 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

I think wooden Bai Qian is what she really is portrayed in the novel…so many scenes in the novel show that she is kinda stiff in love section so much until she can’t realize that she already fell for Yehua before her 4th brother did heart to heart talk with her

        • 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

@priz, mm then I blame the author. I haven’t read the book so I don’t know about BQ’s personality, but I’m still very impressed by Dilraba in her role here. She’s definitely made me a believer.

        • 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

My point is they are 2 different characters and have different circumstances. JF has high EQ and likes DH first and is the one who is chasing after him while it’s completely opposite with BQ. She has never chased YH even as Susu or BQ. It’s always YH that doing everything for her and she has super low EQ and didn’t realize that she loves him until her 4th brother pointed out…. She wasn’t even aware of MY’s love for her.

Without knowing the character you said Dilrabra outshine YM when their character and love were portrait ed differently. In fact I have heard from many FJ in the book isn’t like that and YM is making a very good BQ.

        • 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

@ara – ahh well, i heard the opposite and people saying YM isn’t that great of a BQ – portrayal may be close to the character but acting was only so-so. Listen, you can disagree with me in a million ways and that’s fine. But 1) i have not read the book, so really my interpretation is only based on the drama. Am i convinced that BQ is in love with YH? No. Am i convinced that FJ is in love with DJ? Yes. That’s what i saw in the drama and how i felt and my interpretation of it. 2) in the drama, FJ’s characterization IMO does outshine BQ. are they the same people? obviously not. and FJ does chase after DJ…but my question is, can someone portray deep affections for another convincingly who doesn’t even appear like they deserve that kind of love? FJ does that and more. BQ really isn’t given much of a chance to shine in that aspect. so is it false of me to say FJ outmatches BQ? like i stated earlier, you can blame the author for how BQ is written.

        • 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

That’s why I said it’s unfair when you made a comparison without even understand and know their original characters, especially BQ didn’t have that much time to develop and screen time. She only appeared in 1/2 of the drama- so viewers might not understand her character thoroughly without reading the book.. The rest for SY and Susu where you watch and understand FJ from the beginning to end- she has only been FJ. And all she does in the drama is follow DH and showing her love to him- that’s her main purpose of the drama. And if she failed to show that what else can she do? While BQ we have her relationship with MY as SY, with YH as Susu ( this is where you can see she loves him a lot) and her complicated layered relationship with YH as BQ with a mixture of love and hate.
YM got a lot of praises for portrait ed 5 roles as well as the emotional scenes of BQ’s even many has doubted her in the beginning. Sure she isn’t as excellent as Mark and some emotional scenes can be better but overall she has done her job very well
Anyway we can agree to disagree. I still stand on my point your judgement is unfair when their characters were supposed to be that way. It’s not an excuse for you to not reading the book to have the right to judge baselessly without understand their characters

        • 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

This is the comment on FJ and BQ in the drama from the book’s translator:
FJ was also kinda out of character. She never pursued him as Bai Fengjiu of Qing Qiu in the book, only as a nameless maid and a baby fox. Because she’s the princess. Because her country’s dignity outweighs her own self-respect. And dear FJ, pls learn how to fight! You’re more than a pretty face.
BQ as written in the book is exactly the way she’s portrayed in the drama.
          https://hamster428.wordpress.com/2017/03/03/final-thoughts-on-the-crack-drama/

It’s not that your opinion is wrong because it’s true you can see FJ’s love a lot clearer than BQ’s but saying Dilbra outshines YM when YM is actually follow exactly her role in the book when Dilbra isn’t is just plain wrong, especially with your lack of knowledge and understanding their characters

        • 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

I think it’s nitpicking on someone who hasn’t read the novel to say something like I am not knowledgeable of the story. That’s clearly true, which I’ve stated earlier. And I have no intention of reading the novel. I am only basing my perspective on what I’ve seen. You can say YM did a great job sticking to her role as BQ. But IMO her role was bland at best. And that’s not based on her acting, her looks or anything. Based purely on characterization. So then the 2nd input was whether FJ outshined BQ. Again, FJ did. We are not going to reach a consensus on this because you’re interpreting my opinions as if I’m judging them based on how well both ladies stuck to their characters while I’m clearly gauging it on impact of these characters. Effect from these ladies are different but if I were to judge based on role alone, FJ wins my vote. And that’s that.

This will be my last comment on this drama as I feel going further into it will devolve into nonsense. Different strokes for different folks. What I dislike doesn’t mean everyone will and vice versa which I accept and respect.

        • 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

lol Yes because you don’t know better but only based on who showing love more. It’s unfair to judge the actors when you know nothing about how the characters are supposed to be portraited. How is FJ outshined her when she is off her character when YM stays true to her
I hope you can be fair next time

        • 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

And you are also clearly biased. FJ is impulse desperate and has no self-respect or dignity in the drama. BQ is no perfect character. YM is a more perfect character here but she is bad ass capable and kind… And YM portrait ed 5 different roles in the drama to show how complicated their love and relationship are but sure her role was bland compare FJ who knows nothing but DH.
          Sure.
We can agree to disagree but this is one of the cases where I can’t say I respect your biased and lack of knowledge opinion 🙂

    1.Great Adaptation.
I would probably change how the bad guys were just handed a lot of crucial things just to advance the plot. Like XuaNu stealing the battle plans. I would hope that MoYuan would have hidden them or made it hard for people to steal them, but it was as easy as being in the same house. I would also clear up the timeline, there were moments where it was a big messy. Like how the second prince’s first son looks so much older than Ali, but if we go by the drama they should only be a few years apart.

    2. Favorite thing is YeHua. His character is really fleshed out in the drama when compared to the book. We get to understand him better. We didn’t see that in the book since everything was from BQ’s perspective.
Least favorite are the things I wanted to fix.

    3. She loves YH, they are both really different and she was able to make a clear distinction the moment they met.

    4. Mark did amazing, he really knows how to emote. Yangmi did better than I expected and I think she did a good job. I didnt really have any expectations for the other characters since you dont get to see too much of them in the first book.

    5. Would things have been different if YH’s mother had accepted Su Su initially as a wife for her son and kept her there after the whole eyes debacle and treated her right? Would BT still feel betrayed by YH?
No his mother but his grandfather. If his grandfather had accepted her things would be completely different. His mother actually helped her at times.

    6. They would have killed her.
    7. Yes, one of the best book to drama adaptations. It kept true to the novel and even surpassed the novel.

Overall, I really enjoyed this drama. It was a good love story that was well paced and had a happy ending, which is rare for this genre.
P.S. another favorite thing is how Yehua knows from the get go that SuJin is evil and he always looks at her with disdain and doesnt believe any of her plots.

I loved that YeHua knew Su Jin was trash and never believed her. It made me immensely happy. Lol

JF is like YH where BQ is like DH… Hence you feels the love from FJ is different with BT. She was never supposed to be in love and does things like FJ

This drama was the only drama that I could remember that followed 90% of the novel, and it turned out really really great! This is a lesson many production teams must learn, just stay true to the novel and the drama will be good… Look at what happened to Hua Xu Yin, total disaster, and the director blamed the flop on the change in trend to 小鲜肉, when in actual fact the cast was really good.

I am honestly annoyed at YeHua’s hair ugh… even till the last episode, they just left the hair like that!!!!! Can’t they at least put it up and make it look presentable? I was so annoyed by it, but Mark Zhao made it up for me haha!

Tbh, Mark Zhao and Yang Mi exceeded my expectations, they were great in their roles! LYF and YY really have a high bar to cross over, and especially when they don’t really dub movies. In this drama, Yang Mi’s dubber made Yang Mi’s BQ more convincing.
As for Dilraba and Vengo… Dilraba was good as FengJiu but eventually her character turned out to be a little annoying, but that’s alright!
For Vengo, well, not great at all for me. Idk what is that look call, but he always has that same raised eyebrows and stern eyes look, which I found a little disturbing? He couldn’t become DHDJ, he was just Vengo for me. A miscast by the team. And I wish his outfit and hair was better… (Am I the only one who feels that his acting was only passable? I see so many praises and I couldn’t understand why, but people have differing opinions so).
I just wish they would have cut short on the FJ and DHDJ story, it was really draggy.

All in all, 3L3W was a success, and I love it! Surprise surprise haha, especially when I was so sceptical in the beginning!

I’m on your boat with Vengo and his outfit – the hair was great because the wig was so silky smooth but the silk robes?
There goes my art book version of DHDJ 😀 😀 😀

      • 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

Well, as for DHDJ we still have the artwork for him to make up for it. I was fine with the costume and even the personality change, since while the drama version was less funny, the novel DHDJ was also sometimes hard to swallow. In the drama, his status in importance and power as well as his choice in a lonely fate makes sense, so I was fine with his ending with FJ (mainly because the pillow book makes up for it with a happyish one). I didn’t like most of FJ and DHDJ in the mortal world, save for maybe his death and the emotions there that brought him back early, because that made me laugh.

Dilraba also previously played as GaoWen from Diamond Lovers, who was a weird, spunky, and absolutely adorable character who was also my favorite from the otherwise lackluster show. As FJ I loved her already, so there’s some bias here, but she did a very good job at being both adorable (that drunk scene where she smiled and pointed as well as the numerous nose rubs resembling a fox she did through out the show) as well as beautiful. Because their story changed a lot from the book, FJ in the drama naturally should be a lot more bratty and innocent. The novel personality is what FJ would be more like at the end of the drama, where she experiences final heartbreak and gives up.

You’re not the only one. Dubbers really help alot. Lyf and Yy will have to bring their A game, hopefully, they didn’t left it behind while filming. I had a hard time getting used to the actor and actress for feng jiu and dong hua. I actually skipped their scenes.

  10. 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

I think the common consensus is that Yang Mi and Mark Zhao did an excellent job that was beyond expected as well as the rest of cast doing their own part so well that no one really let the cast down. The only question, I think on everyone’s mind now is that, how will the movie beat/match this?

Will I be watching the movie? Probably, but I’m going into it with the question of whether or not Yang Yang will live up to the character that Mark Zhao created and how his version of Ye Hua will stand next to Mark’s.

Because right now I’m having withdrawal symptoms 🙂

    1. Did the drama do a good adaptation of the Novel? What would you like changed?

    – Absolutely. Followed the main story closely, changes made to secondary characters/storyline but in a good way. I liked that they interpreted certain “open” meanings from the novel – let’s just say if you’re those who believed Mo Yuan liked Bai Qian then you’ll be thoroughly pleased.

    2. What is your favorite thing about the drama? Naturally, Least favorite thing.

    – Favorite thing: the cast. Mostly Mark! And the gorgeous visuals, scenery, etc
    – Least favorite: annoying Pillow Book fans

    3. Do you guys think that BQ is actually in love with YH, or does she love MY but just doesn’t know it?

    – I think BQ is definitely in love with Ye Hua. I believe her feelings for MY are platonic, but not impossible in terms of anything romantic. However BQ was never given the opportunity to explore it, and fate/timing was not on their side. I strongly believe, and I think the drama wants to emphasize that if Ye Hua did not win over Bai Qian – very possible she would’ve stayed by her shifu and even looked at things romantically down the road as he returned with a very different outlook in life.

    4. Did Mark and Yang Mi bring their respective characters to life? Did Dilraba and Vengo surpass your expectations?

    – Mark exceeded every expectation, and is a star to watch out for. Yang Mi was inconsistent in the beginning, but she won me over as Bai Qian.
    – Dilraba & Vengo were perfectly cast – and good chemistry. Wish these two had more developments and even star in their own spinoff!

    6. What would have happened had YH ignored conventions and simply brought the ‘mortal’ Su Su to heaven instead of trying to hide her?
    – Hypocrites in the heaven realm would’ve still treated her like a pile of hot dung.

    7. Would you consider the drama a successful adaptation?

    – The drama is even better than the novel.

    • 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

Pillow Book fans are indeed annoying.
They should just wait for their drama adaptation instead of bashing this one. Some didn’t watch and bashed it. Some watched only for Dijun and Feng Jui and were of course fu’ll of complaints too. This isn’t their drama people!
And I grew really tired of that couple by end of show. Vengao was just passable but his character was less annoying that Dilraba’s. What was difference between Feng Jui and SuJin if thou think about it regarding their clinginess to men who don’t want them?

      • 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

YES! I don’t mind Pillow Book fans who discuss their drama, but it’s ANNOYING AF when they start bashing the Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms drama and main couple here, and trying to shift/drown the attention on the main arc with their complaints. It’s everywhere and its crazy. Everytime I see a “Lolol only watching this for FJ-DH/I skip all the main couple parts/FJ & DH is soooo much better” I just wanna tell them to go take a hike and wait for it.
I almost wish the drama adaptation of the Pillow Book will bomb so they can take their crying elsewhere and leave this drama alone, lol I’m such a troll. *hides* Better yet, how would THEY like it if Peach Blossoms fans start complaining in their drama about their rendition of BQ-YH even though it’s not their drama, and worse yet, start bashing the FJ-DH couple there?!

        • 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

How can you say your watching the drama only for a couple that has about 10 mins/episode and still feel you have a right to judge said drama? It defies logic. Lol.
And I saw complaints that this was a bad adaptation of book and that is a capital LIE. I doubt I’ve seen a more faithful adaptation. They were 95% the novel.
          Three Lives is about YH/BQQ.
          Simple

          All others are subplots

        • 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

LOL If the FJ-DH was even at least good in here I would understand what they mean by saying those things, but besides the fact that FJ is pretty and DH is handsome or both are beautiful people…all I really see is FJ keeps on being unconscious then he (and other guys) held her and pass her around like how many times I lose count already. I really don’t understand how interesting they are in here at all.

        • 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

mte @yoyo_oy haha.. reading your comment is like telling my thought, lols.

i almost skipped FJ and DH scenes, hehe… since this one is ten miles, so…i literally watched for my OTP. 😀
but seriously, i dont understand about their relationship. Well, probably, i need to read their own story, in pillow book. later. hehe

        • 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

LOL. I definitely don’t see the all encompassing romance Pillow Book fans saw between their OTP in this drama.
I got really tired of the characters particularly FJ by the time they got to the mortal realm and when they returned to their immortal selves i was totally done. I started skipping their scenes even.
I feel like they were projecting stuff from the book into the xters but that stuff didn’t happen here.
I was more invested in ZL and YZ ship even 🙂

      • 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

Same. I couldn’t care about FJ and DJ. They never seem to get anywhere. FJ always chasing, DJ being cool. But I suppose the difference between FJ and SJ is that FJ probably would not have stooped as low as SJ did. But I still found FJ annoying. YH and QQ all the way

  12. 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

Does anyone know what the next big hit drama going to be for the month of March?

  13. 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

I watched this purely for Mark and ZBB. I’m the rare one that thinks General and I is better, bad CGI, Angelababy and all. The story there at least is better than some soap opera that’s 100% about love and nothing else. Yang Mi is still not a good actress. She can do the big dramatic scenes but the scenes that don’t require some big melodramtic emotion, totally expressionless and lacking personality. Maybe if she were matched with someone more on her acting level it wouldn’t be as bad but Mark is pretty great. Would’ve loved to see him with ZLY or Joe Chen.

How come no one ever mentions the fact that BQ is a crappy “mother” who basically chose to forget that she gave birth to a kid? She doesn’t have to remember YH, but at least fight for your own kid. She’s not a “mortal” anymore but someone with power and a whole kingdom to back her up. Can’t root for a love story where one parent abandons their baby cause she thought she was getting dumped. And only cares for the kid, when she’s happy with the baby daddy.

I think the author secretly hates women or something. All the female characters basically suck except for Chengyu and maybe that’s cause she was barely onscreen. But the men for the most part are decent and reasonable. Besides loving Mark and ZBB, I liked the guys who play Zhe Yan, Siming, Liansong, Dijun, and BQ’s brother. They’re all just chill while the women are in crazy town. I generally like Dilireba too and she was ok here but again, give the woman some other motivation besides love. Her pair did have some great chemistry but I didn’t get their story either. Also why is Dilireba cast in so many costume dramas? I think she does better in modern.

    • 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

I did mention the bad parenting and I think YH is also not any better at parenting although he raised the kid alone.
After he started chasing after BQ he almost forgot about the kid most of the time too, they all spend time less together, and when making sacrifices of their lives do not seem to be missing Ali or consider about his feelings. What’s up with tying BQ instead of joining force to fight together LOL?

I really don’t see a difference in acting between YM and ZLY, they also look very similar with the exception ZLY looks cuter. The writer hates women for sure, especially their eyes, always make them go blind.

    • 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

I agree with you on how terrible the female characters were. I just could not deal with how 99% of the women were evil and trying to sabotage the perfect main character to steal her man. No one had any real aspirations or goals and were completely irresponsible. The drama was okay, but it is way over hyped, which took away from my enjoyment. It really irritated me when people continuously commented on how great the character development and plot was when it’s honestly extremely ordinary and hackneyed. People were saying that this was better than Nirvana in Fire and Mark Chao would have made a better MCS…I mean I like Mark, but this must be some sort of joke. Not to mention the compliments on how astoundingly realistic the CGI was.

After I tried reading the original novel though, I realized that this adaptation was an improvement. There was this continual emphasis on how BQ was the most beautiful women in the world and how all the other women couldn’t match up to her. The same went for YH, but it was less obnoxious because the book wasn’t from his perspective.

It was FANTASTIC 10 out of 10 stars MARK CHAO and YANG Mi are AMAZING everyone else was irrelevant other than my baby A-Li

    1. – No answer to this as i only read the summary of the novel. However from the summary i did see that they kept the important part quite well
    2. – A- Li hahaha he is a cute little riceball. A bit hard to name my favourite thing. Too many too wide. Least favourite thing the bloody current Heavenly Lord. for a Heavenly Lord he is rather blinded by emotions isn’t he?
3 Actually from the way the she is being portray I believe she grew fond of YH then the fondness grew into affection something like a highschool first love? For MY i kept getting the father figure vibe. Love for her father kinda feel
    4. Yes yes and yes. I have seen Mark in Black & White so I know what he is capable of in the acting department. For the second lead couple again i did not read the book thus I will not compare it with the way the character was written but based on the short description i say they did very well.
    5. Yes and yes. BT will still feel betray because YH did not explain himself well but it would not have blown out of proportion if the mum was not hardheaded
    6. Errr the 2nd uncle’s case will repeat itself and maybe even worse?
    7. Can’t answer that but as a stand alone i say it is successful in its own right.

  16. 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

    1. The drama is a wonderful adaptation of the novel, eventhough it didn’t go with the timeline like in the novel and it kinda took some element of surprise but it actually make it more easy to us as viewers to digest the story. I would like some of a draggy part to be cut short, e.g : the unnecessary draggy part of a character that is suppose to be dead (in the novel) but still pop up on screen ~ yes it’s you Xian Nu 😀
    2. My favourite thing about the drama would be the beautiful scenery and the wardrobe and the hairstyles of the female casts (not to fond of several male casts hairstyles). And I love how this drama kinda make the story break into several arc part and it flow so cohesively and deliver much more beautiful storyline (than the novel) to life.
    3. BQ definetely loves only 2 guys in her life, one is her monkey-love LJ and the other one is the love of her life Ye Hua. She is not the characters that will love another person when she is in love with another. Her ‘love’ for MY is purely platonic. But, will this platonic’s love develop to man-woman love given the right time and fate? Yes, it certainly will. Hey, just look all the setup after MY awake, if BQ never ever met YH, there’s gonna be another trip for the Fox King and the Old Phoenix to the Sky Clan to break off the engagement 😛 because BQ will reciprocate MY’s feeling for sure.
    4. Mark really hit it big this time, he proof to a lot of people (including me) that he is Ye Hua (and also Mo Yan) come to life and he set the bar so high for anyone to surpass it. And I think Yang Mi suits as Su Su and Bai Qian perfectly, as Si Yin I give her 7/10. Vengo and Dilraba has a great chemistry as DH and FJ, and I just grateful that this two is even showed up in this drama quite a lot than in the novel eventhough their arc is all over the place
    5. It’s no use if YH’s mother accepted Su Su, because the Sky King is the one who had the say here, and he really want to get rid of Su Su because he certainly wouldn’t want to jeopardize his clan relationship with the fox clan. And BQ will still feeling betrayed because for her at that time it all seem like YH is trusting SJ’s words more than her.
    6. She will be dead sooner with her eyes still intact though
    7. Most certainly

Agreed with you wholeheartedly. The way the drama is set up, is that MY didn’t have the right time/fate with BQ, but if you look closely there’s been several instances where the drama hinted it wasn’t entirely impossible. BQ definitely has platonic feelings for MY, but I agree that if given the opportunity romance could develop into more. Once she fell for YH though, it’s all over as Qing Qiu foxes are devoted completely once they fall in love.

    1. Did the drama do a good adaptation of the Novel? What would you like changed? /b>
Yes. I think this is one of a great adaptation that follows the novel quite closely. Not exactly like the novel but i would still considered this a great characterization and scenes and conversations. I actually like how the novel started out with Susu and have everything as a flashback. I dont like the chronological order style from the drama that much but i completely understood why that was the case to provide more information to viewers

    2. What is your favorite thing about the drama? Naturally, Least favorite thing.
Fav: Little Riceballs!. He’s literally the cutest thing on earth. Yang mi and Mark’s chemistry is also smokingggg! I was not expecting that kind of chemistry between the two since Yang Mi seems more aloof after her marriage but I feel like I’m seeing the Yang Mi back from Return of Condor days :D.
Least fav: Too much time on DiJun and FengJiu. Not that i don’t like them, but sometimes, i felt like they have way more screen time than the main couple.

    3. Do you guys think that BT is actually in love with YH, or does she love MY but just doesn’t know it?
I think QianQian loves YH. She loves him in a different way from MY. MoYuan is more of a respect, family sort of love. Especially in Chinese culture back then, “Teacher is like a Father” I think she saw him with alot of respect and someone that she looked up to and cares for. But it was definitely not a romantic love

    4. Did Mark and Yang Mi bring their respective characters to life? Did Dilraba and Vengo surpass your expectations?
    Yes and Yes!

    5. Would things have been different if YH’s mother had accepted Su Su initially as a wife for her son and kept her there after the whole eyes debacle and treated her right? Would BT still feel betrayed by YH?
hahahaha if that’s the case then BaiQian would never have becoming a higher goddess and becomes her true self as a goddess and stuck in human form. Even if YH mother doesn’t really have a saying in his relationship since it really depends on the Emperor. So even if YH’s mother treats her right, Susu will never be the legitimate wife.

    6. What would have happened had YH ignored conventions and simply brought the ‘mortal’ Su Su to heaven instead of trying to hide her?
Same thing. lol or if he was willing to risk everything, he could pull off the same thing that his second uncle did. I think YeHua never had the guts to go against what his grandfather wanted him to do. Especially since the Emperor had so much expectations on YH and that really weighs him down.

    7. Would you consider the drama a successful adaptation?
YASSSSSS! I love everything about this drama. maybe not everything, but I’m definitely loving the adaptations and excited for the movie version.

  18. 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

    1. Did the drama do a good adaptation of the Novel? My answer is YESS, i read the book but for some reason i more like the drama flow than the book to follow the story
What would you like changed? If can they make a special eps for ye hua and bao qian only after ye hua back life … want see the grand wedding of them and want see a li more in the interaction between his parents

    2. What is your favorite thing about the drama? Of course the beautiful back ground, the detail how they make the custom
Naturally, Least favorite thing… is the CGI … i dont need to explain for it we all know the CGI is poor result out on screen

    3. Do you guys think that BT is actually in love with YH, or does she love MY but just doesn’t know it? Well for this if bai qian love ye hua i say Yes, with bai qian character… she to her shifu is about respect toward elders who always help her in bad situation…. but for mo yan self till to day i am so confused is he love bai qian like man love a woman or not …. so not clear i cant quest how mo yan feel toward bai qian

    4. Did Mark and Yang Mi bring their respective characters to life? Yess yess yesss …. is out of my expectations mark can make me so fall in love for ye hua character he bring ye hua life in this drama ….. for yang mi her 3 characters si yin, su su, bai qian also the doll su su she portrait well enough so i can feel the different for each character…. both of them is the best for the remove eyes and for the near ending eps the crying when ye hua die…. is make me crying to see bai qian so sorrow like that

Did Dilraba and Vengo surpass your expectations? Well for this couple when they is a god is good …. but when they in mortal world is so weird to watch their act

    5. Would things have been different if YH’s mother had accepted Su Su initially as a wife for her son and kept her there after the whole eyes debacle and treated her right? Would BT still feel betrayed by YH? If that happen …. is still not make any different for susu live in heaven clan …. coz the problem is not just ye hua mother but also su jin, the king and all god also the maid will make susu life miserable…. IF ye hua say why he doing that to susu the story will be make a big different but i think su jin will make another plot to make susu jump to zhuxianthai …. so the result will be the same bai qian will be still feel betrayed

    6. What would have happened had YH ignored conventions and simply brought the ‘mortal’ Su Su to heaven instead of trying to hide her? That will not be happen if ye hua bought susu goes to heaven they will not have a li ….

    7. Would you consider the drama a successful adaptation? Yess i cant say more for this adaptation …. this second drama adaptation i like after nirvana in fire

So far the rating is 8/10

    1. Did the drama do a good adaptation of the Novel? What would you like changed?
Have not read the novel but only read general synopsis of chapters here and there. It seemed to follow the storyline very closely from what I read. As to what I would change, I don’t think I would change much of the way the direction went. I thought the crew did a great job telling the story. I would have liked a bit longer ending because I know the author wrote a epilogue or two so it would have been nice and cute to see YH, BT and AL as a family together on screen longer.

    2. What is your favourite thing about the drama? Naturally, Least favourite thing.
Favourite thing would hands down be the discovery of Mark Chao and his awesome acting ability. Why did he not do dramas earlier, lol…. Second would have to say the sets looked quite lovely and the OST worked really well with the drama too.
Least favourite thing: Probably the CGI. I know Cdramas are getting better at using it but they still have some ways to go before it’s on par with American ones I think.

    3. Do you guys think that BT is actually in love with YH, or does she love MY but just doesn’t know it?
I do think that BT really does love YH especially when she realises that she too did not know how to cherish the love between YH and herself when she had it in front of her. Her convo with her 4th brother when she stated she scolded LJ for he only knew what was love when he lost it and then compared herself to his actions shows she’s realises her own fatal mistake in not cherishing YH enough.
But then, I do agree with @Jolin_Chan, that given BT did not fall in love with YH first she could have also loved MY back. Though her love for MY has always been platonic and out of respect for her master, I too think given the right time and fate it certainly could have happened, especially since I feel MY loves BT too. Just like ZY (Old Phoenix) said it really was ‘XinChaYangChou’ (aka fate) that BT fell in love with YH first and chose him just before MY got a chance to work out his real feeling for BT or even got a chance to tell her. Poor Guy, lol…. I like and respect his character very much too. He always puts others in front of himself.

    4. Did Mark and Yang Mi bring their respective characters to life? Did Dilraba and Vengo surpass your expectations?
Having not much expectations for this drama, I have to say the actors did a great job in bringing the story to life. From the main leads, secondary characters to the minor characters all did respectively well.
Mark is totally YH (and MY) and I do not see another actor playing that character and nailing the role better than him. (All I’m saying is YangYang has big shoes to fill if I do attempt to watch the film version).
Yang Mi did a good job too especially towards the end of the series as BT.

    5. Would things have been different if YH’s mother had accepted Su Su initially as a wife for her son and kept her there after the whole eyes debacle and treated her right? Would BT still feel betrayed by YH?
    Yes and No,
and Yes because SS said she wouldn’t be able to tolerate even a’ grain of sand that irritates her” so since she had doubts put in her head that YH only married her because she was a replacement for SJ, she would have still felt betrayed by YH.

    6. What would have happened had YH ignored conventions and simply brought the ‘mortal’ Su Su to heaven instead of trying to hide her?
The same fallout would eventuate, lol… this group of ‘Heaven Gods’ are not nice people, so many of them are so rigid in their set ways/rules and might I add spiteful, hahaha…..

    7. Would you consider the drama a successful adaptation?
Yes, would rate series solid 8/10 🙂

    1. Did the drama do a good adaptation of the Novel? What would you like changed?
    – Have no idea, as I’ve never read the book!

    2. What is your favorite thing about the drama? Naturally, Least favorite thing.
    – Most favorite: Definitely Ye Hua’s love for Su Su/ Bai Qian.
    – Least Favorite: Xuan Nu! She quite irritating and ugly in personality. Su Jin is cray cray somewhere. Finally, Bai Feng Jiu and Dong Hua Di Jun Relationship is all over the place? Also Bai Feng Jiu one sided love (watch only until ep 44) is quite irritating

    3. Do you guys think that BQ is actually in love with YH, or does she love MY but just doesn’t know it?
    – Bai Qian definitely did love Ye Hua especially when she was Su Su, otherwise she wouldn’t have requested for the “Forget Love Potion” even when she returned back to being Bai Qian.
    – In those times, a master is more respected then fathers and other elderlies, I’m sure she only sees him as her master, someone she should and will have to respect. Though, if they had more time together, sparks will fly! Mo Yan treats Si Yin exceptionally good! Until now, I’ve still no idea does Mo Yan knows she’s a girl?

    4. Did Mark and Yang Mi bring their respective characters to life? Did Dilraba and Vengo surpass your expectations?
    – Mark definitely did! He made me felt that I wanted to be Susu/ Bai Qian. His love really made me feel like it was real, in reality.
    – Yang Mi’s acting was better then expected! She definitely knew how to control her actions and emotions better, when she cried she made me cry when she was angry, I was angry, even when she had to act like she didn’t really have a care in the world, I did too!
    – Vengo acting is still a little rusty. Dilraba acting was a little better she does her sad scenes well but the fact she was so irritating obsessed with Di Jun was a bit irritating and I still have no idea why she keeps trying get his love in return when everyone that knows him said he just popped out of stone (meaning he has no heart, feelings)

    5. Would things have been different if YH’s mother had accepted Su Su initially as a wife for her son and kept her there after the whole eyes debacle and treated her right? Would BT still feel betrayed by YH?
    – It was never Ye Hua’s mum as much as his grandfather, the King of the Heavenly Palace. If his grandfather accepted her, which was quite impossible after 2nd uncle, Susu’s life would be much better, though not perfect as she is after all, “just a mortal” in love with a heavenly prince!

    6. What would have happened had YH ignored conventions and simply brought the ‘mortal’ Su Su to heaven instead of trying to hide her?
    – He would become the next 2nd uncle, banished to no where, but Heavenly King would probably have killed Susu as she’s just mere mortal and Heavenly King could not take another betrayal!

    7. Would you consider the drama a successful adaptation?
    – Yes! Omg! Never in my life have I watched a drama which made me felt so 刻骨铭心~till I can’t sleep for days! (The Su Su in palace part)! Everything was just great

This is probably the 1st drama I’m addicted- reading novel, reading comments. following blogs and watching live, and sub after…
I’m satisfied overall even I wish they keep certain parts same with the book
Mark is excellent but YM nailed her roles too. She played 5 roles in this drama and was wonderful at them. I feel like she didn’t get enough credit since everyone is going gaga over Mark’s YH who is a perfect man that everyone wish to have lol
The whole production and other supporting cast play a big part of the drama too. Ali is so cute
I’m not ready to let this go yet and will rewach this many time

  23. 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

I’m really appalled by the popularity of Dil and Vengo’s loveline, it felt incomplete, underdeveloped, and not enough for me to even have a small bite of. Lol. Vengo is a very stiff actor, I haven’t been able to feel anything for him yet in any projects. Dilraba is perfect for me FJ but that’s it.

Mark was good but I expected that from him, I was just waiting for everyone to eat their words. Have liked him since Black and White. Yang Mi was good as BQ but not as the other roles she was supposed to play.

    Little dough is a treasure.

Didn’t read the book since I don’t support plagiarism and the author’s smugness about it all. It saddens me.

  24. 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

    1. Did the drama do a good adaptation of the Novel? What would you like changed?
In many parts it is better than the book, and chronological order made the drama much easier to follow and understand. However, in doing so, nearly all of the plot surprises are lost as we are given a complete omnipresent view of events. It would be nice if a few of the surprises are kept, for example, in the last episode we could have found out about YH’s coming back with BQ with all of the ups and downs rather than knowing it from the beginning.

    2. What is your favorite thing about the drama? Naturally, Least favorite thing.
Best Thing: YH and SS’s plot in the mortal world. The drama expended the relationship very well, and made their romance much more real and believable.

Worth Thing: DH and FJ’s later stories and ending. It just does not make much sense, and it made the character arc for both are incomplete. While I know this is not pillow book, but if the drama decides to dedicate so much development on DH and FJ outside of the TMPB novel, then at least give them a complete story arc. Either they will break completely with no hope of return (like Yan Zhi and Zhi Lan) or give them a HE similar to the end of pillow book.

    3. Do you guys think that BT is actually in love with YH, or does she love MY but just doesn’t know it?
BQ definitely Loved YH, it is very obvious. I think MY does seem to love BQ, however, BQ is either too respectful of him or just too slow to be able to respond in kind.

    4. Did Mark and Yang Mi bring their respective characters to life? Did Dilraba and Vengo surpass your expectations?
Mark and Yang Mi did a good job in their characters. Yang Mi perhaps still lack some of the spiritedness of BQ and as well as fierceness in battle. But over all she did a good job in bringing the characters to life? Vengo is too stiff in his expression as DH, he does not seems to be carefree at all, and all the plotlines where DH seems to be deeply involved with heaven court politics doesn’t help at all. Dilraba is very cute as FJ, and I like her representation very much, but in terms of fidelity perhaps it’s a bit too cute and too 傻白甜. FJ like BQ has a fierce side as well, but the drama didn’t bring it out. Then again this is not pillow book, and FJ’s TMPB plots (mainly the mortal trial portion) are done very well.

    5. Would things have been different if YH’s mother had accepted Su Su initially as a wife for her son and kept her there after the whole eyes debacle and treated her right? Would BT still feel betrayed by YH?
I don’t think that would happen at all. First, the Susu plot is BQ’s love trial, sad stuff are bound to happen. Delaying it will only make it worse. (Unless YH knows Susu is BQ and fake a love trial like what SM and FJ did to DH) Second, in all Chinese Mythology from Cow Herder and Weaver Girl to Madame White Snake, mortal-immortal relationship all have to endure heartache, so it’s would strange if they all of a sudden get along nicely, the story would literally have nowhere to go. (unless they all know Susu is BQ, and trying to fake a love trial and get the wedding to happen sooner.)

    6. What would have happened had YH ignored conventions and simply brought the ‘mortal’ Su Su to heaven instead of trying to hide her?
I don’t think it would end well, Susu probably will be casted away fairly quickly, if she was allowed in at all.

    7. Would you consider the drama a successful adaptation?
I would, it one of the better ones, I only started reading the book after I started the drama.

  25. 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

    1. Did the drama do a good adaptation of the Novel? What would you like changed?
-I believe they did a decent good. Though I did only read the portion of YH and BQ. So I’m not sure the other parts were accurate. The only change I would want to explore is the character depth of MY, because he’s my favorite (20,000 years went back and I had no character development between SY and MY).

    2. What is your favorite thing about the drama? Naturally, Least favorite thing.
-Mo Yuan’s doting on BQ, Mark’s acting, the ending, Mo Yuan (literally everything about this guy even though he appeared in less than 10 episodes)
-Least favorite: How did BQ fall in love with YH so quick?; YH’s lack of communication (let’s be real, he kind of treated her like shit and regretted it afterwards, so his pain is deserved); I will prob get a lot of hate but I kind of wished that BQ would have drank the ‘forget’ soup and gotten together with MY.

    3. Do you guys think that BT is actually in love with YH, or does she love MY but just doesn’t know it?
-Hmm, I am going to with the fact she could develop deeper affections for MY but could not. To a certain extent, I can’t help but think she did love him since she was so heartbroken and wanted to follow him when he fell asleep. Additionally, how could you NOT fall for YH when this guy seriously does not stop with his stares and his kisses?

    4. Did Mark and Yang Mi bring their respective characters to life? Did Dilraba and Vengo surpass your expectations?
-Mark blew it out of the water, like totally. My respect for him as an actor skyrocketed but then I still remember the controversy when he won Best Actor over Vic Zhou and then I don’t like him as much. Hmm, I LITERALLY skimmed this drama so their scenes were irrelevant to me, maybe when I rewatch it.

    5. Would things have been different if YH’s mother had accepted Su Su initially as a wife for her son and kept her there after the whole eyes debacle and treated her right? Would BT still feel betrayed by YH?
-Honestly, prejudice is something that is hard to overcome. As immortals, it’s even harder when they worked so much harder to be better than mortals. So no, his mother is a piece of shit and does not deserve her post. YH does not deserve BQ/SS. So no, let SS die and BQ can be with MY (yes, I totally know I’m rooting for the sinking ship).

    6. What would have happened had YH ignored conventions and simply brought the ‘mortal’ Su Su to heaven instead of trying to hide her?
-I apologize for my lack of originality but dee put it into words far better than what I could come up with, “Hypocrites in the heaven realm would’ve still treated her like a pile of hot dung.”

    7. Would you consider the drama a successful adaptation
-Oh definitely, it’s beautifully shot (CGI is still a growing field) and the acting has exceeded my expectations. FINALLY, a FAIR ending. It would be totally BS if those 2 main leads went through SO MUCH shit and they still had to be apart (even if I’m rooting for a different ship).

I don’t know. I’m seriously a second lead person, I can’t help it. Mo Yuan did sacrifice so much for SY and the world. Even though, I’m a little older, alternate plots are forming in my head to make sure that Mo Yuan and Si Yin/Bai Qian somehow end up together in my universe.

Argh, I’m so happy to be participating in this discussion.

    1. Did the drama do a good adaptation of the Novel? What would you like changed?
This is one of the rare case the adaption is better than the book. I wish they could keep the hot scenes in in the book and the CG can better

    2. What is your favorite thing about the drama? Naturally, Least favorite thing.
BQ and YH is my fav along with little Ali. Some parts are draggy. I wish they didn’t give XN and SJ that much screen time… It’s was too much

    3. Do you guys think that BT is actually in love with YH, or does she love MY but just doesn’t know it?
BQ has always loves YH as Susu and BQ herself. Fox clan can only loves 1 person so MY doesn’t have a chance… This poor guy

    4. Did Mark and Yang Mi bring their respective characters to life? Did Dilraba and Vengo surpass your expectations?
I came in with out any expectation and they surpassed everything as YH and BQ playing many characters and all. As much love Mark is getting I wish YM is getting the same credit. She is selling SY, Susu and BQ. You can definitely differentiate between them but still can see how they are linked together. It’s not an easy task. Not to mention as she did well as XN too. I think Dilra fits this role even the role might not be the same in the book. Vengo leave so much to be desire though,

    5. Would things have been different if YH’s mother had accepted Su Su initially as a wife for her son and kept her there after the whole eyes debacle and treated her right? Would BT still feel betrayed by YH?
His mom is a B*tch and I dislike her. I dislike his family except 3rd uncle. It doesn’t matter what she did it’s the grandfa that makes the calls

    6. What would have happened had YH ignored conventions and simply brought the ‘mortal’ Su Su to heaven instead of trying to hide her?
Nothing changes or worse. It’s her trial so she will have to go through it.

    7. Would you consider the drama a successful adaptation?
I love this adaption. And it’s definitely a successful one that was leading the ratings and holding the most online views at the moment

    1. Did the drama do a good adaptation of the Novel? What would you like changed?
    Never read this.

    2. What is your favorite thing about the drama? Naturally, Least favorite thing.
Probably the chemistry between Mark and Yang Mi. they are so cute together. And my heart aches for them and it’s a good feeling to have when watching a drama!

    3. Do you guys think that BT is actually in love with YH, or does she love MY but just doesn’t know it?
She reveres MY, doesn’t love him like that.

    4. Did Mark and Yang Mi bring their respective characters to life? Did Dilraba and Vengo surpass your expectations?
Mark and Yang Mi are superb, I fastfoward through most of Dilraba and Vengo scenes tbh, unless Si Ming (starlord) is in it, or Cheng Yu or Third Uncle.

    7. Would you consider the drama a successful adaptation?
So successful! Everyone doubted, including me but it is so fun to watch and engaging. And beautiful. It’s not even one of those successful dramas like JoF or LMIYD that were successful but heavily criticized! Commercial and critical hit!

  29. 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

For those who is wondering if the drama is following the novel. I have read both three novels ( Ten Miles of Peach Blossom, The Pillow Book 1 and The Pillow Book 2). As this drama main story is about BQ and YH, FJ and DH story is actually happens after BQ and YH story. Which i believe they shouldn’t add FJ and DH characters in the drama ( but i still love it). As for YM acting as BQ is 100% because i feel that BQ she never stepped out of the cave after the dead/coma of MY. She never careless about anything outside the fox tribe. As for SS she woke up not knowing who she is, therefore is not a proud woman like BQ. As for YH, his love for SS is the same as BQ because he knows they are both the same person, however for BQ it is his guilty feeling that he has helped her so many times to save MY. So i feel like he is just repaying her bit the same time wanting to start over again.

    Ok the questions.
    1. Yes the drama did make a good adaption 9f the novel regarding to every characters except for FJ and DH.
    2. My favourite part is whenever the 4th brother BZ appears the most and everything and the least is….the heavenly king showing hate towards SS and the snake maid.
    3. Well i feel like she does love YH considering the fact thatbdje admitted it.
    4. Yes they did bring their characters to life. And Dilbara and Vengo did exceed their expectations in their own ways.
    5. I think YH mother has accepted SS but i think if YH actually show or told his mother that he loves SS (instead of saying she save my life and im repaying her with a child), then his mother would supported him. But i think its not his mother fault but more like the heavenly king and SJ.
    6. Well he wanted to fake his death so that he can live with SS in the mortal realm. But things dont go as planned.
    7. Well of course this is a success considering the fact that i watch it over 20 times and counting.
My wishful thinking is that there should be a drama the focuses in FJ and DH that follows the nivel. All three novels are GREAT!!

  30. 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

    I love it.

Mark Chao is a great actor and who says he’s not good looking? He’s hella attractive.

    1. Did the drama do a good adaptation of the Novel? What would you like change?
Never read the book before but wished there were fewer scenes of FJ and DJ. I mean, this is 3L3W, right?

    2. What is your favorite thing about the drama? Naturally, Least favorite thing.
I watched solely for our OTP and will rewatch this series again just for them. Least favorite? Too much of FJ and DJ scenes. I always fast forward their scenes. Their love story is too tired to watch.

    3. Do you guys think that BT is actually in love with YH, or does she love MY but just doesn’t know it?
BQ definitely love YH only. As for MY, I feel sad for him but BQ only views him as her father and teacher. A role model. But giving a certain amount of time and without YH, the devotion might turn to love. Well, if MY pursue her actively like what YH had done. Who wouldn’t fall in love with his eyes, smile and cheesy words? LOL

    4. Did Mark and Yang Mi bring their respective characters to life? Did Dilraba and Vengo surpass your expectations?
I watched this series because I knew YM from the Palace. The rest is quite a mystery to me. But just like everyone said, Mark truly own YH. I thought he looks stiff and wooden but he changed when he met Susu. YM is good as BQ but not convincing enough as SY. Although I dislike FJ and DJ scenes but acting wise, they have good chemistry. I just wished they have a happy ending although this is not their arc.

    5. Would things have been different if YH’s mother had accepted Su Su initially as a wife for her son and kept her there after the whole eyes debacle and treated her right? Would BT still feel betrayed by YH?
If Sujin didn’t become a b****, that might the case.

    6. What would have happened had YH ignored conventions and simply brought the ‘mortal’ Su Su to heaven instead of trying to hide her?
YH will be like his uncle and mortal Susu would have to endure the punishment which might cost her life.

    7. Would you consider the drama a successful adaptation?
Didn’t read the novel but I enjoy it very much. This is the only drama that I kept rewatch, stalking the BTS and instagram. I dropped most of Chinese series like Chusen, Journey of Flower and recently Weiyoung.

  32. 83 thoughts on “Review it: Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom (CDrama, 2017)

    1. Did the drama do a good adaptation of the Novel? What would you like change?
Yes it was a very good adaptation, wished it was longer with some more background stories and perhaps a longer ending showing their HEA. 58 episodes is just too short! I wasn’t a very big fan of DH & FJ storyline and they didn’t follow e book adaptation for that. Tho I feel both actor and actress played their parts very well. And 1 more thing I wish LS was more handsome since he was suppose to be in Book 3 of 3L3W with CY.

    2. What is your favorite thing about the drama? Naturally, Least favorite thing.
Of cos it was YH & BQ kiss scenes and YH sexy voice. Least fav was e war and fighting scenes. War scene was not done well and realistically, kinda made me cringe at some point. Another part was when YH fought Demon King, I can’t put my Fiber on it but something didn’t feel right.

    3. Do you guys think that BQ is actually in love with YH, or does she love MY but just doesn’t know it?
She really did love him but not as much as he loved her. As for MY, too bad she loved him as a teacher and Father. His sad look got my heart twisted. I am so looking forward to his book. Heard he has a loveline w a ghost queen or princess in Book 4? I really hope Mark Chao will star in Book 4 adaptation!

    4. Did Mark and Yang Mi bring their respective characters to life? Did Dilraba and Vengo surpass your expectations?
Initially, I was comparing the drama with Journey of FlowerYM vs ZYL & MC vs WH. MC gave me e same feeling as WH did in his role as shifu. But after a few episodes in, i stopped comparing altogether. He really did a superb job as YH/MY, no need to compare anymore.

    5. Would things have been different if YH’s mother had accepted Su Su initially as a wife for her son and kept her there after the whole eyes debacle and treated her right? Would BT still feel betrayed by YH?
It didn’t matter whether she accepted SS or not, Heavenly king would still have gotten rid of her thru SJ. YH tricked everybody into believing he didn’t love SS accept for e most important ppl he needed to trick which is Havenly king and SJ. BQ would still have ended up feeling betrayed, she jus didn’t know how to trust and communicate with YH and chose to believe SJ lies, that was her downfall.

    6. What would have happened had YH ignored conventions and simply brought the ‘mortal’ Su Su to heaven instead of trying to hide her?
Hmmmm, it would have been a totally different storey, lol… if he had the guts to do that he would’ve defied Heavenly King openly come hell or high water. I would like to think that Heavenly King would eventually have given in seeing as he got no other heir apparent to replace YH but find a sneaky way to get rid of SS. So back to square one. Just that YH is too naive.

    7. Would you consider the drama a successful adaptation?
Watched the drama and read the novel, it was a very good adaptation, they changed certain parts to make the storey flow better. Accept for the DH & FJ parts. Almost perfect. Could there possibly be a better one after this? I dunno… I am feeling the blues now…. withdrawal symptoms worst than post journey of flower. It leaves me wanting more… like Mo Yuan shifu….

    1. Did the drama do a good adaptation of the Novel? What would you like changed?
Did not read the novel, but heard that the drama follows the novel through 95%
    2. What is your favorite thing about the drama? Naturally, Least favorite: can’t think of any.
Favourite: Yehua, yehua and more yehua. The OST was amazing too. Least favourite thing
    3. Do you guys think that BT is actually in love with YH, or does she love MY but just doesn’t know it?
BQ definitely loved YH, no doubt about that. When BQ was SS, ZY saw that she had fallen in love. After she jumped from Zhu Xian Tai, she requested ZY give her the potion to lose her memories.
    4. Did Mark and Yang Mi bring their respective characters to life? Did Dilraba and Vengo surpass your expectations?
Loved loved loved performances from Mark and Yangmi. Dilraba and Vengo were decent.
    5. Would things have been different if YH’s mother had accepted Su Su initially as a wife for her son and kept her there after the whole eyes debacle and treated her right? Would BT still feel betrayed by YH?
BQ felt betrayed because she thought YH loved Sujin. Even if the mom treated her right, she would still have left.
    6. What would have happened had YH ignored conventions and simply brought the ‘mortal’ Su Su to heaven instead of trying to hide her?
    A repeat of 2nd uncle’s situation
    7. Would you consider the drama a successful adaptation?
    Never read the novel.

Mark Chao and Yang Mi were the best. I watched the show in 3 days nonstop. Mark Chao acted brillantly in this drama and was a drawing force for me to watch this drama. I don’t think I would like this drama as much if someone else played the role. Mark Chao was perfect for the role. I did not read the novel so seeing the drama was the best on screen. Waiting for another TV drama for Mark Chao to be part of.

    1. Did the drama do a good adaptation of the Novel? What would you like changed?
Yes! I actually read 2 translated versions of the novel (the one in scribed and kindle) AFTER watching the drama and it definitely brought the novel to life AND more! It’s the the first drama which got me so hung up that I had to buy a translated english novel.
    2. What is your favorite thing about the drama? Naturally, Least favorite thing.
Xuan Nu and Princess Miao Qing scenes.
    3. Do you guys think that BT is actually in love with YH, or does she love MY but just doesn’t know it?
BT LOVES YH!! it’s seen in the conversations between BQ and MY after he got revived. BQ would talk about the past and end with YH this and that. LOLS poor MY.
    4. Did Mark and Yang Mi bring their respective characters to life? Did Dilraba and Vengo surpass your expectations?
MC and YM definitely did justice to the roles! The “slowness”of BQ when it comes to “love” is actually more pronounced in the novel! Her comments in the novel are hilarious!!
For Dilraba and Vengo- they were what I expected. Beautful couple. But reading the pillow book novel after watching the drama got me confused. Oh well. Their story would make another good drama.
    5. Would things have been different if YH’s mother had accepted Su Su initially as a wife for her son and kept her there after the whole eyes debacle and treated her right? Would BT still feel betrayed by YH?
Nope. YH did get her eyes and that was the pivotal point. That was the ultimate betrayal.
    6. What would have happened had YH ignored conventions and simply brought the ‘mortal’ Su Su to heaven instead of trying to hide her?
I believe SS would have been dispatched/killed sooner. The heavenly emperor even wanted to kill SQ (the snake) who was an immortal but was thwarted since the second prince made that scene with Zhe Yan and the fox king watching.
    7. Would you consider the drama a successful adaptation? YES!!!!!!!
