  • From what I gleaned about the novel Last Year: The story takes place in a mythological world with demons, gods, and humans cohabiting. Our hero, Chi You (Huang Xiao Ming) is driven by revenge and wants to dominate and unite all living things under one ruler. His resolve is immovable until he meets the heroine, a princess from the Xuan Yuan Kingdom (Victoria Song). During the chaotic times, two dominant figures emerged: Chi You, a war god from Shen Nong Tribe, and Prince Shao Hao (Peter Sheng), from Gao Xin kingdom. While our heroine is forced to marry Shao Hao, her heart belongs to Chi You, and conflicts in interest arise when her father invades Shen Nong. The meaning behind the title is a promise between our OTP that as long as he still wears the red robe she made for him, they would meet under the destined Peach Blossoms and that he would give up everything to be by her side. However, because Chi You never knew of the reason behind her political marriage with Prince Shao Hao, he lashes at her from a place of hurt and mistrust. From what I read, the novel does not end happily. This is also the prequel to Lost You Forever (長相思).
  • More details on Chi You: He was once a beast god in the wild and was tamed by Shen Nong’s Emperor hundreds of years ago. He is described as both ruthless and sincere, cunning and naive, and invincible on the battlefield. He doesn’t have a rule book and only fights to dominate and unify.
  • Prince Shao Hao: handsome, cavalier and indifferent, yet gentle and loving. His heart desires no feelings and only wants to conquer, using any means to achieve his goals – the crown and making Gao Xin the most powerful empire. If Chi You is a passionate fire, then Shao Hao is a treacherous, cold sea.
  • The novel is being translated at One Second Spring if you’re interested in reading. The drama will have some changes…

Directed by Cai Jing Sheng (Flying Swords of Dragon Gate TV) and written by Tong Hua, A Life Time Love has 54 episodes with no air date yet.

HMmm…Huang Xiao Ming sure looks different this time! Nice hair, matches him well too! Too bad for Janice, why don’t she ever get any main roles when I think she got enough second leads?

A Chi You god of Shen nong sounds so interesting, I bet Miao people would want to watch very much too for sure considering how much they like offering prayer to his statue.
Very nice close up from a small poster, thanks Kap!

      You’re welcome yoyo~~!

Janice is getting leading roles more this year, but in smaller productions. 😉

Since I’ve read a bit of this novel, there’s a lot of nitpicking lol. I was hoping Victoria would wear green robes. It’s the heroine’s “trademark” color. Chi You looks “tame” with this outfit and hair. Peter Sheng… his acting… aish.
The way they position the characters in that photoshop environment… looks a bit off.
Other than that, wooooo Janice and Leo <3 <3
…. 54 episodes?! ;____; Pls no draggy plot

Hi ChocolateCosmos, awesome that you read the novel, mind spoiling a tiny little bit info?

Is the Yellow Emperor included? I just wikipedia Chi You quickly and saw that he was supposed to be ox headed like Shen nong LOL. And some interesting reads about his death.

      • 42 thoughts on “A Life Time Love: Huang Xiao Ming, Victoria Song, Wu Qian, Luo Yun Xi

Yellow emperor is either shaohao dad or the girl’s dad…I forgot …? chiyou is a real mythology figure so if you Google that might be the description..but his character really did evolve from a beast through thousands of years…he first saw the girl bathing in a river in a dark night as a beast…

A xianxia drama! Hopefully this will be as good and addictive as Three Lives Three Worlds.

I saw the cast and promptly struck it off my to-watch list.

people stop meeting your loved ones under the peach blossoms unless you want three lives of torture a.k.a ten miles peach blossom (but seriously that drama was my life for 2 months)

I will watch for Wu Qian! XD And maybe Huang Xiao Ming, I don’t mind his acting haha he can be good depending on the role/drama.

I really don’t like Victoria ‘s acting. But Leo! Where hAs he been?

  9. 42 thoughts on “A Life Time Love: Huang Xiao Ming, Victoria Song, Wu Qian, Luo Yun Xi

I read the book a while ago so can’t remember all the details (but I do remember liking it) but I’m really hoping they went out and used some nice location filming because the main places in the book were mountains etc. I’m also hoping if they do use CGI it is at least 3L3W level – especially with the battle scenes.

i was so happy to see another drama adaptation of Tong Hua’s novel. but smh, seeing the cast makes me hesitate wether to put it on my plan-to-watch list or not. i’ve seen only peter sheng’s acting, and it’s just meh in Pretty li hui zhen. heard victoria isn’t much better. Hope they’ll proof me wrong.

also, hope the writer doesn’t change much from the original story or dragging the story.

  11. 42 thoughts on “A Life Time Love: Huang Xiao Ming, Victoria Song, Wu Qian, Luo Yun Xi

Err…I believe the colors of the costumes are wrong but maybe they have others..girl likes to wear green..chi you always wears the red robe….and I dunno he looks like he’s dressed like westernized legolas kind of look while I am expecting free flowing robes…a little bit of unruly hair because he really is like an untamed animal kind of character. And shaohao is ambitious but forever looks kind. Janice and Leo must be the the brother and sis in law. They have a sad love story of their own.

    • 42 thoughts on “A Life Time Love: Huang Xiao Ming, Victoria Song, Wu Qian, Luo Yun Xi

Sad love story of their own?!!! T______T

  12. 42 thoughts on “A Life Time Love: Huang Xiao Ming, Victoria Song, Wu Qian, Luo Yun Xi

This is terrible casting T_T Ugh, Victoria + Peter are stiff and emotionless for life…., and Huang Mings okay, but his acting/age gap vs Victoria looks way to obvious…. Another Tong Hua novel ruined T___T Ahhh, I wonder why she sells her rights like this T_____T

  13. 42 thoughts on “A Life Time Love: Huang Xiao Ming, Victoria Song, Wu Qian, Luo Yun Xi

Janice Wu and Leo LuoYun <3333 I liked them so much in My Sunshine. As for the rest of the cast, idk… Victoria and a fantasy drama gives me Ice Fantasy vibes and that was so bad.

  14. 42 thoughts on “A Life Time Love: Huang Xiao Ming, Victoria Song, Wu Qian, Luo Yun Xi

I don’t understand how Victoria is getting all these lead roles. Who’s her sponsor? I mean her acting is still stiff and emotionless. Honestly there are way more talented actress out there but here she’s getting all the lead roles.

    • 42 thoughts on “A Life Time Love: Huang Xiao Ming, Victoria Song, Wu Qian, Luo Yun Xi

She’s the leader of a pretty popular kpop girlgroup under a very influential Korean entertainment company, SM Ent, so it’s not a huge surprised how she’s getting all these opportunities. I guess I can say the same to EXO, Lay/Zhang Yixing, comes from a huge kpop boygroup and under the same company as Victoria. And of course, look sells like fire, so their God-given beauty plays a part of it too.

      • 42 thoughts on “A Life Time Love: Huang Xiao Ming, Victoria Song, Wu Qian, Luo Yun Xi

wow, no wonder I keep hearing korean being banned in Chinese ent. everywhere but somehow Victoria managed to stay only.
I’m actually fine with Victoria except being a little bothered that (is it just my eyes?) she resembles Kim Tae Hee like over 95%, who I thought also resembles Ho Mei Tian very much.

      • 42 thoughts on “A Life Time Love: Huang Xiao Ming, Victoria Song, Wu Qian, Luo Yun Xi

She’s the only member who gets so many jobs. Even in Korea, fx didnt do much, thats why SM did their best for her. But poor the rest members.

But i’ve read that she’s one of top popular female lead in China. Probably thats the other reason of her getting many jobs. #shrug

        • 42 thoughts on “A Life Time Love: Huang Xiao Ming, Victoria Song, Wu Qian, Luo Yun Xi

She’s a 87-er, putting her in the same age range as actresses like Crystal Liu, Yang Mi, Liu Shishi, and Zhao Liying. However, it’s clear that she’s not in the same league. I won’t deny that she’s had offers from large productions (like the awful Ice Fantasy and now this), but most of them have tanked. You can’t attribute the bad performance to her really, but she does not have anywhere close to the same audience affinity as the current top actresses, partly because she’s really only just started her acting career. For me it’s puzzling that she’s getting these casting offers. There must be something the producers/directors saw that I’m not seeing. Not that I’m upset about this particular casting, since the story doesn’t appeal to me at all.

Then again, most of the actresses I’ve mentioned are only doing movies/female centric dramas nowadays. Heck, even Dilraba’s upcoming dramas are all female centric. There’s also the fact that male centric dramas are more likely to be flops too (Chusen).

But to be honest, I’m pretty sick of seeing the (ex-)SM idols because most of them are so so so bad and I’m not even concerned about acting usually. This just means that they are really terrible beyond imagination.

        • 42 thoughts on “A Life Time Love: Huang Xiao Ming, Victoria Song, Wu Qian, Luo Yun Xi

Nah SM has nothing to do with her in Korea. In fact they has no poweror connection in Korea. She has her own studio and is pretty popular which is why she has many offers

        • 42 thoughts on “A Life Time Love: Huang Xiao Ming, Victoria Song, Wu Qian, Luo Yun Xi

@kitai isn’t it unfair to compare her with the top actresses who has been working many years with countless projects?
She has been popular because of her WGM show and has a strong fanbase.
Her dramas did well aside from IF… like I remember seeing her other drama was the 2nd highest drama last year next to YM’s.
That’s why she is getting all the offers. And her manager is quite popular too…

        • 42 thoughts on “A Life Time Love: Huang Xiao Ming, Victoria Song, Wu Qian, Luo Yun Xi

@Ara: I’m just thinking why forgo better actresses for Victoria. I did acknowledge that she doesn’t have as much experience. Then again, her name is basically synonymous with bad acting. Also, she looks great in pictures, but not so good in motion.

Btw, what has the popularity of her manager got to do with anything?

        • 42 thoughts on “A Life Time Love: Huang Xiao Ming, Victoria Song, Wu Qian, Luo Yun Xi

@kitai I agree about the part she looks better in picture than motion. And she seriously needs to take some acting classes if she want to keep acting
Her manager has some good connection aka she gets better offers through him… But I don’t really like any of her recent roles…..

      • 42 thoughts on “A Life Time Love: Huang Xiao Ming, Victoria Song, Wu Qian, Luo Yun Xi

Lol China’s most popular actresses aren’t good in acting anyway. Angelababy, Zheng Shuang and Liu Yifei are god examples of pretty faces without acting skills. And I wouldn’t call Liu Shishi, Yang Mi and Tang Yan excellent either. Victoria is bad but she has the popularity/fanbase so she would keep getting lead roles. Besides, Ice Fantasy was flop but it had many online views.

      • 42 thoughts on “A Life Time Love: Huang Xiao Ming, Victoria Song, Wu Qian, Luo Yun Xi

Even if SM Ent has no influential in her activities in China, her name being attached to kpop is a huge seller for the China market. The so called “Hallyu Wave” is pretty big in China and other Asian countries too. Having someone like Victoria in a production is a guarantee exposure for the production, not only in China, but worldwide. And despite f(x) not being as well-loved in Korea, as they should be, they are definitely well-loved international.

And with the ban of Hallyu Wave in China at the moment, I’m pretty sure SM is taking this opportunity to make their Chinese idols be more active in China so the impact of the loss of not promoting their idols there lessen. Because at least they can still work over there compare to their non-Chinese members.

        • 42 thoughts on “A Life Time Love: Huang Xiao Ming, Victoria Song, Wu Qian, Luo Yun Xi

the hallyuwave is not as big as u think it is

        • 42 thoughts on “A Life Time Love: Huang Xiao Ming, Victoria Song, Wu Qian, Luo Yun Xi

the hallyuwave is not as big as u think it is

        • 42 thoughts on “A Life Time Love: Huang Xiao Ming, Victoria Song, Wu Qian, Luo Yun Xi

Kpop isn’t that big in China and people know her as actress than f(x) leader in China.
And sure SM wants to get those yuan from China but it’s a joke to say she get offers because of SM connection when they have no connection or power in China.
Vic has her own agency and is managed byJia Shikai . If anything you should credit him for the connections.

    • 42 thoughts on “A Life Time Love: Huang Xiao Ming, Victoria Song, Wu Qian, Luo Yun Xi

She is popular and her dramas have been doing well. IF is the only one has flopped

    • 42 thoughts on “A Life Time Love: Huang Xiao Ming, Victoria Song, Wu Qian, Luo Yun Xi

I agree with you with the part that practically says she is terrible actress. You’re wrong when you say she is getting all the roles.
Victoria does play the lead role in a drama once a year and there are people saying she is stealing roles of other better actress.
Dili Reba is getting lead and main roles but she still not known for being a good actress. Guli Nazha is also another one trying hard and getting more lead roles but she still seen as bad actress. Zheng Shuang is labeled a bad actress but still get lead roles. JIang Tian is another one too. I only can remember these names to mention as actress who should be called out for stealing roles who should be played by another better actress. I think the list can get bigger.

      • 42 thoughts on “A Life Time Love: Huang Xiao Ming, Victoria Song, Wu Qian, Luo Yun Xi

Out of all you’ve mentioned, only Zheng Shuang and Gulnezer are bad actors. People’s opinions on Jing Tian are that she’s actually quite decent at acting, has fantastic resources, but lacks audience affinity. She’s not well-liked simply because of her background. If she’s acting in a film, even the A-list stars have to step aside for her to be the focal point (see The Great Wall). I haven’t heard people say that she’s a bad actor though. Dilraba on the other hand, is known for being a scene stealer. She’s considered above average out of all 90-er actresses.

Additionally, out of the four, it’s no secret that Jing Tian has huge backers. Dilraba is top choice for most dramas co-produced by Jia Xing since she’s most popular out of all the young’uns. Gulnezer gets support from Tang Ren (especially now that Liu Shi Shi has left). Zheng Shuang was Tian Yu’s only bankable female actress (she’s let go of herself gone solo though). In other words, they all have “sponsors”.

Furthermore, all of them, including Jing Tian, have clear career trajectories. Jing Tian debuted in a production with lots of big-name actors, and continued to enjoy support. Dilraba debuted in Yang Mi’s V Love (apparently a terrible drama) and continued with roles as secondary leads/supporting characters until she broke out in Diamond Lovers. Gulnezer’s first TV appearance was in Xuan-Yuan Sword as the third female lead before Tang Ren gave her the lead role in CP5 (but both poorly received). Zheng Shuang headlined Meteor Shower and went on to sign with its production company, and had a couple of sub-lead roles here and there too. Most of them started out with supporting roles. Even in ZS’s case, it’s a pretty normal instance of a young actress getting a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Victoria’s definitely not getting ALL the roles, but the reason why these offers go to her is less self-explanatory in comparison. It’s just not as obvious as something like “she’s starring in a drama produced by her own agency” (she has her own personal studio). She’s not as popular as international fans think as well, partly because her appearance does not really fit the Chinese beauty standards. Plus, she’s arguably the worst actress out of them all too.

        • 42 thoughts on “A Life Time Love: Huang Xiao Ming, Victoria Song, Wu Qian, Luo Yun Xi

Thanks. This is a very informative and interesting analysis for me an international viewer. What’s wrong with Victoria’s appearance that she doesn’t fit the Chinese beauty standard? I’m not particularly fan but she looks pretty to me.

        • 42 thoughts on “A Life Time Love: Huang Xiao Ming, Victoria Song, Wu Qian, Luo Yun Xi

          @Majesty

nothing wrong with her looks. She just has more mature and sexier looks with strong facial features, compared to the likes of ZLY lol This Китай (Kitai) girl is speaking just her own opinion.

    • 42 thoughts on “A Life Time Love: Huang Xiao Ming, Victoria Song, Wu Qian, Luo Yun Xi

Why does she get offers (lead roles, variety shows, endorsements) etc? Because she’s has teamed up with Jiashikai. She is good at making connections. And because she is profitable! Isn’t that obvious?
People were criticizing Beautiful Secret, but it had good ratings because housewives and older generation female audience (the ones whom you won’t often see on the internet) liked it. Ice fantasy performed poorly compared to BS but compensated it with good online ratings, there is contribution from international viewers too. What other lead drama roles does she have? Oh, right, there is one from 2012. So it’s 5 years and 3 drama lead roles. I don’t see anything over the limit here. Right, there were 2 movie roles. One with Cha Tae Hyun, other with Feng Shao Feng and Shu Qi. Right, those are flopped. But Cha Tae Hyun “oppa” was the one who should be dragging the ratings up not her, it was his story, he was the star of the franchise. FSF and ShQ were the ones who should be dragging the ratings not her, they were the two lead actors.

So what we see here? Pretty good results for someone who started it late in her 20s, who spent half of her previous life dancing. As long as she is marketable, she will be getting projects after projects. And I afraid she is there to stay.

Im hoping HXM, Peter and Victoria’s acting wouldn’t drag the drama~ And they are main leads at that…

Interesting plot and would watch it because it’s Tong Hua! I loved her BBJX,DMY and YZG novels so I would give this a try just for her!

YESSHHHH I hear Lost You Forever, and I’m already hooked LOL. This novel is pretty sad. Some of the melo relationships between a lot of the characters was highlighted in Lost You Forever, but luckily Lost You Forever is a happy ending. Ermm Huang Xiao Ming looks like Baili Tusu (Li Yi Feng) from Legend of the Ancient Sword and Victoria looks strange…Peter is…pretty stiff too so hopefully this will turn out great! *optimism* T_T Meanwhile….the younger OTP looks great! Hope their ending is too depressing :/

My only hope is that they don’t screw up Lost You Forever too xD but yeshh will try this out for Tong Hua 😛
