Ice Fantasy Destiny: The Spinoff, Nothing Gold Can Stay New Stills

Why a spinoff? Because 62 episodes isn’t enough to tell the story? Cdramas, we need to talk about the new lengths you guys are reaching for in terms of dragging out storylines! The next downside is removing the female lead and replacing her with a new face. That never ends well with original fans. Ice Fantasy Destiny (幻城凡世) is the modern spinoff starring Feng Shao Feng in a CEO role as he unlocks memories and powers of his Ice Prince past, with actress Zhang Yu Qi as the leading female, followed by little brother Ma Tian Yu and his lady love, Alina Zhang.

Why did they replace Victoria? It’s so weird because the rest of the cast remains the same.

    • 31 thoughts on “Ice Fantasy Destiny: The Spinoff, Nothing Gold Can Stay New Stills

i think it’s because her character died in the ancient version so zhang yu qi is her “reincarnated version” in the modern one, plus, victoria is pretty busy with hosting and stuff.

Isn’t Victoria Korean? I remember China is starting to ban Korean actors/actresses.

      • 31 thoughts on “Ice Fantasy Destiny: The Spinoff, Nothing Gold Can Stay New Stills

Victoria’s Chinese based in Korea. She attended Beijing Dance Academy before being recruited by SM during their audition. Right now, she’s hosting Chinese variety show Ace VS Ace game.

Why -____-” have they not learned anything about Scarlet Heart 2. Oh well, guess it’s all about the $$. And yes the recent Cdrama trend with draggy long episodes needs to die.

    • 31 thoughts on “Ice Fantasy Destiny: The Spinoff, Nothing Gold Can Stay New Stills

And what is even funnier is that at least Scarlet Heart was a big success, with a good plot, great actors and actresses, and great visuals. So I understand if they would want a sequel. But Ice Fantasy? The visual was the only good thing about the drama.

      • 31 thoughts on “Ice Fantasy Destiny: The Spinoff, Nothing Gold Can Stay New Stills

And even that turned into a disaster. Lol

      • 31 thoughts on “Ice Fantasy Destiny: The Spinoff, Nothing Gold Can Stay New Stills

Nah the only good thing about that show is Shi and Yanda ship

  3. 31 thoughts on “Ice Fantasy Destiny: The Spinoff, Nothing Gold Can Stay New Stills

Why is this drama still having a spin-off? Ice Fantasy was so bad that not even the pretty visuals could save it, and now they are doing a spin-off? Lol…

The plot for Sun Li’s drama looks okay, will watch it for her, Myolie and Niki! Missing the older generation of TVB actress, they made my childhood awesome!

It’s so weird that they are making a spinoff of such an unsuccessful drama. Why?

  5. 31 thoughts on “Ice Fantasy Destiny: The Spinoff, Nothing Gold Can Stay New Stills

I thought the spinoff is about an outsider’s experience of the Ice-Fire wars.

i hope they stop casting turks in cdramas. I’ve been seeing a lot lately

i want only chinese people not caucasoids

      • 31 thoughts on “Ice Fantasy Destiny: The Spinoff, Nothing Gold Can Stay New Stills

@Joni He’s referring to Uyghurs – a prominent ethnic minority in China who are more Turkish than they are Han Chinese. And he is saying this because C-entertainment has included more public figures and representation of them. Actors and actresses such as Dilraba Dilmurat, Merxat, Guli Nazha, Medina Memet (who was in original Ice Fantasy) are all of Uyghur descent.

        • 31 thoughts on “Ice Fantasy Destiny: The Spinoff, Nothing Gold Can Stay New Stills

          they are not prominent

          no one cares about them

          they are just terrorists

and they are not chinese they are turks

    • 31 thoughts on “Ice Fantasy Destiny: The Spinoff, Nothing Gold Can Stay New Stills

what an ignorant thing to say. I believe the term you’re looking for is “UYGHUR” and though their ancestors are Turkish, they are part of the diverse background of Chinese population and belong to 56 ethnic groups residing in China, so technically they too are Chinese people. Given the various tensions between Uyghurs and Han Chinese, this inclusion of them in popular media and entertainment does more for bridging gaps than other means and sanctions …

I wonder if you also bitch about not having enough Chinese/Asian representation in American media. If you do, then shame on you for double standards.

      • 31 thoughts on “Ice Fantasy Destiny: The Spinoff, Nothing Gold Can Stay New Stills

if i wanted to see turks or white people i would watch western dramas

i watch chinese dramas because i want to see east asian looking people

the name donald suits you like a trump.

        • 31 thoughts on “Ice Fantasy Destiny: The Spinoff, Nothing Gold Can Stay New Stills

This is sooo distrubing. You shouldn’t watch any drama at all if you can’t accept it.Just don’t watch!

This is how FAKE media is okay! We,the FAKE media and FAKE entertainment love all ethnic groups and represent everyone.

      • 31 thoughts on “Ice Fantasy Destiny: The Spinoff, Nothing Gold Can Stay New Stills

the only reason they are casted is because they look “white” and have big eyes

other than that they have no talent and their acting sucks

        • 31 thoughts on “Ice Fantasy Destiny: The Spinoff, Nothing Gold Can Stay New Stills

They do have Talent. Mr Drumpf.
You sir, are a racist. And ignorant. And quite frankly Stupid

        • 31 thoughts on “Ice Fantasy Destiny: The Spinoff, Nothing Gold Can Stay New Stills

Hey Trump – they CAN act, maybe if you paid attention to their performance rather than skin color you’ll see this. Dilraba is one of the better up and coming C-actresses which is why she’s getting all these work.

They aren’t casted cause they look ‘white’, yes they add an exotic factor but they’re no different than all the other actors/actresses who have the looks + ability and qualification process having gone through acting/performing academy. Did you know there are actual white actors trying to make it in C-ent but never do. Goes to show how ignorant you really are.

        • 31 thoughts on “Ice Fantasy Destiny: The Spinoff, Nothing Gold Can Stay New Stills

@ Donald: Your comment are vile. You sound ignorant and a racist like your namesake Mr Trump. Uyghurs are part of China’s population deserve representation in the media too.

Nothing Gold Can Stay sounds like a good drama. Praying to the drama gods that it will be under 60 episodes XP

I really like Ma Tian Yu but not the dramas he stars in (except for Strange Hero Yi Zhi Mei, now that’s a drama that deserves a sequel!) =_=

Me too, still waiting for a Ray drama for me to bite into!! =(

  8. 31 thoughts on “Ice Fantasy Destiny: The Spinoff, Nothing Gold Can Stay New Stills

Why did they even do the spinoff when the drama didn’t even do well? lol
Good doe Victoria that she didn’t join

  10. 31 thoughts on “Ice Fantasy Destiny: The Spinoff, Nothing Gold Can Stay New Stills

Hey guys, I didn’t” watch Ice Fantasy so i don’t know how badly it sucks lol. But I thought it hit the over 10 billion viewership online, so would that consider success?

    • 31 thoughts on “Ice Fantasy Destiny: The Spinoff, Nothing Gold Can Stay New Stills

Tough question, on douban, it only has a 3.0 rating out of 10. Lol. 75% gave it a one. XD

I guess you make some list and fall off some list as well. Ultimately, I think it just depends on you, if you like the drama, the ratings shouldn’t matter. Let your heart enjoy what it wants! 🙂

It was a “Commercial Success” – yeah it was one of the most watched dramas of 2016. It wasn’t a good “rated” drama, meaning most people who watched it didn’t really like it that much. However, because it was so heavily promoted, and had international audience, it was bound to do well commercially. It’s like a Superman vs Batman movie…even if the movie sucks people will obviously watch it due to the hype.

Same thing with Ice Fantasy. Super popular novel, highest budgeted Chinese Drama of all time, super famous cast (William Feng, Victoria and Ma Tian Yu)….it didn’t matter if the story was drawn out, and people disliked it, they will still watch because of the hype.

That’s why they’re doing a Spinoff, it’s gonna make money no matter what. I just hope Ma Tian Yu and Yada finally end up together haha. Also, no Victoria??? Seriously what are they thinking, female leads is the most important thing in a Chinese Drama!!!!

    My review on Ice Fantasy

    Spoilers ahead:

I watched this at first purely to check out Victoria’s acting, I didn’t catch the stills or the trailers, so my expectation was low. My first impression was, they had way too much makeup on, the CGIs were cringy, choppy editing, and it felt more like a cosplay show. Needless to say, I had to fast forward to watch Victoria’s part. When I reached to the OTP’s first meeting, by the riverside where she uttered her most memorable line, I was swooning so hard with the way Ka Suo was looking at Li Luo, in fact, I was won over entirely because of his love for her. I loved how he fell for her first and actively showed his interest (despite being shy about it), how he insisted on being with her, and how he only loved her throughout the whole story. I also loved Li Luo’s characterization here, she’s the stronger one and she’s the one protecting Ka Suo despite being the weaker one (she’s mortal and he’s immortal). The OTP tried hard to contain their feelings at first, but when they finally came out in the open with how they felt for one another, it’s refreshing to watch how they strived to be together, of course, fate got in the way with that but our OTP persisted with their love.

Aside from romance, I was deeply touched by Ka Suo and Shi’s deep brotherly love for one another. They loved each other so much to the point of dying for one another, which is the recurring theme of the story. Shi strived to free Ka Suo from the burden of succeeding the throne that he didn’t want and sought to unite his brother with the love of his life, my heart bled for Shi. And Ka Suo never once doubted Shi’s motive for the throne even when his brother hid the truth from him. It’s beautifully tragic the way they loved and cared for one another.

I also loved how Ka Suo found loyal camaraderie among the other tribes throughout his journey to the throne (which he didn’t want). Admittedly, I wasn’t too fond of Ka Suo’s characterization because he was written to be such a whimpy and weak character. I know he was supposed to be kind and benevolent but his actions translated to weakness instead. I had hoped that he’d grow more backbone, which he kind of did for a bit by the end, but then it fizzled out before even seeing the light.

Once I came to know the characters and their stories, I was over all the CGIs and makeup. The acting was decent. I don’t feel Feng Shao Feng was stiff as some had mentioned in their comments, Ka Suo was a stranger in mortal realm so it makes sense that he was guarded and stiff in that environment. I wish Victoria could be stronger in some emotional scenes, but I get why she would be limited in those areas. All in all, this was a good watch for me, in fact, I was so hooked I marathoned 20 episodes in 1 night. I wouldn’t say this drama is perfect, it’s very flawed and probably has some poor executions all around, but at the heart of it, it has a compelling story to tell, but only if you’re willing to hear and watch.
