First trailer for Hawick Lau’s The Legend of Jade Sword

If that thing with many sharp teeth were chasing me, I wouldn’t look that calm and elegant. Lol.

Based on a popular Chinese Xianxia web novel, Desolate Era (莽荒纪), written by I Eat Tomatoes, the story follows a young man plagued with illness all his life and eventually succumbed. Due to his kind nature, he is reincarnated, given a second chance at life (without having to drink the bowl of forgetful soup) and enters the immortal realm. He realizes he’s meant for bigger things, yunno, like avenging for his family and saving this clan/world from extinction. He trains hard to become a power player in this world.

Well it looks pretty good! But…are they riding woolly mammoths?? And the one line “What is righteous and what is evil?” is seriously giving me Chusen feels…

After watching the trailer, their budgets are not enough to target this type of fantasy world. The time period felt so western like it fit right in with the time of dinosaurs along w/ ape man and those ancient elephant. Their costume did not look fitted for these settings too. I don’t know…something just seem so off…I can’t really properly describe them.

I agree and the CGI is so bad it really looks like they are from Ice Age the animated movies!

I think they won’t be following the novel much. That scene of him fighting the snake, it was supposed to be just him facing off with the snake. In fact they fought for many many days and none won the duel. However, through it all, they became duel partners. That snake eventually became one of his closest and most loyal companion later on in the story. How come there’s a lady fighting the snake with him? That in itself is a big giveaway that this drama is not going to follow the novel. Maybe the drama-makers decided to add in more storyline on the romance. The novel does not focus much on the romance-side of things. It’s more about Ji Ning and his adventures and how eventually he achieved the highest level of godhood. I enjoyed the novel and I really would not mind if they followed the novel and focus on Ji Ning’s life and adventures. Not every drama needs a strong romance line.
