Hawick Lau’s The Legend of Jade Sword drops BTS and new stills

You don’t know how much work is put into these costume productions until you watch their BTS videos. It’s crazy! Props to all the production crew and staff members! It makes you want to forgive and overlook all its misgivings. Lol. The Legend of Jade Sword (aka Desolate Era, 莽荒纪) follows the story of young man plagued with illness all his life and eventually succumbed. However, since he was a kind person, he’s given a second chance at life (without having to drink the bowl of forgetful soup) and enters the immortal realm. He realizes he’s meant for bigger things, yunno, like avenging for his family and saving this clan/world from extinction. That’s all I know ~

Hawick again? He and YM should spend more time with their daughter.

Nah! For an Asian guy, once you have kid(s), your main responsibility is to earn more $ so your wife and kid(s) will have comfy life. This is the reason why in traditional Asian households, children seldom get to see their fathers or interact with their fathers in a deeper level. Fathers are seen as authority figures and the person who brings home the $. When they are at home, they are usually relaxing around like watching tv, reading newspaper, playing chess or a game etc and seldom lift a finger to help their wives in things concerning the household and kids. This is the traditional/cultural practice of a typical Asian family but there are men from the younger generation and from families who migrated and grew overseas in Western countries who no longer follow this mold of what a husband and father should be, but I believe in mainland China, this mold and expectation of the father being the main provider of income with no to little expectation to be involved in their children’s actual upbringing still stands.

Lol got to love that mannequin challenge lol. Wow the production looks good. Agree they put so much work in ancient series especially the ones with so much action. I love how every day hey release bloopers for general and i and hey also have bts footage of how hard the production team, as well as how dedicated the artist are to put out a series. Hawick and Yang Mi are so busy that they don’t have time for each other and their baby girl.

I really wonder if his marriage is still moving forward positively or negatively. I hope they look make the right decision as parents. Children are not pets, you can leave at home to be taken care of by others. They need love and care from both parents. Both of them are rich enough not to use poverty to neglect their daughter. Very irresponsible parenting if they do. I think one of the parent is more so then the other.

The sad thing is, when neglect happens, it is always the mother’s fault. The father is seen in Chinese culture as blameless as it is his responsibility to work hard and bring home the income for his wife and kid(s). But if a mother works hard too and the child grew up without much parental input, the blame always land on the mother because there is no strict obligation for women to pursue a successful career or bring in the income for the family. So, in line with cultural expectations, I would say, YM should cut down on acting and spend more time with her daughter but it is absolutely fine for Hawick to take on more projects and work hard for his family. In fact, his working hard and not having much time to spend with his family is seen by Chinese culture as being positive as he is fulfilling his duty as father and husband.

I do agree with you. They both are equally working very hard but their child is neglected. I believe YM may put in much more hours away as she is base in China most of the time. Her projects are endless….

I have read d novel, sorry I can’t imagine Hawick as d hero!!!! In d novel d hero was described to look young and had a delicate face so that is why he was always underestimated as he looked like that. Also he was YOUNG!
From which angle Hawick looks young???!!!!?!
    I am soooooo NOT happy!!!!!!!!
I really hope they don’t change too much of d plot and put their own twist.

I’ve been spotting this recent trend for productions to post previously rare glimpses of the work behind the scenes regarding the production of sets, props and costumes etc. This really has opened up my eyes in regards to the amount of effort and money placed into each and every drama. I remember my jaw dropping at the exquisite sets of 3W3L, Tribes and Empires as well as Ruyi, and now this one. The time and effort is really no joke and I feel absolutely overwhelmed by all the hard work placed bts especially for dramas of this genre. It makes me view and appreciate dramas with a different mindset, a more layered one I guess. Anyway, I’m hoping the above dramas I have mentioned will have a script worth the work!
