Glory of Tang Dynasty: Opening Music Video, Tang Jin’s song
Between Glory of Tang Dynasty (大唐荣耀) and Three Lives Three Worlds, I think the majority is anticipating 3L3W more, but I’m leaning towards Tang right now. The intensity of the trailers, the richness of the colors, and the excellent soulful singers they have on board got me! Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!

Opening Music Video, Song, BTS, Short Trailer:
The story follows Consort Shen (played by Jing Tian) who was known as “the wise and true empress” during the Tang Dynasty (and only honored as Empress Dowager after her supposed death), wife to Emperor Daizong of Tang (Li Chu) and mother of Emperor Dezong (Li Kuo). After being captured by rebels during the Anshi Rebellion in 759, she disappeared and was announced as deceased in 805, despite multiple attempts to locate her. During those years, many women came and pretended to be the missing Consort and were all declared as fakes. [Wiki]
Allen Ren Jia Lun plays Emperor Daizong of Tang, first Emperor of the Tang dynasty to succeed as the eldest child. He served as a general to put down the Anshi Rebellion. His succession to the throne was credited as a result of maneuvers by eunuchs. [Wiki]
The Glory of the Tang Dynasty will join the ratings game by premiering on January 29th with 60 episodes.

I’m also looking forward to this more than 3l3w! (can’t deny 3l3w did a pretty good job with the soundtrack tho…Zhang Jie, Yisa Yu…yeah good stuff)
I’m definitely loving this so far, even tho I’m actually not that interested in the plot itself…this is one I’ll be watching for the cast and the pretty decent looking directing. I’m LOVING what I’m seeing of Jing Tian. I LOVE her but tbh I rarely like her shows and I’m holding out hope for this one. Here she seems far more restrained and with more subtleties than her usual fire-cracker characters. Here she seems to show more quiet strength, the whole backbone of steel hidden by a more reserved, gentler exterior. I’m liking it. ?

You said it all, Juli. I’m compiling a separate post for 3L3W cause trying to combine them together hurt my brain after last time. XD They released like a little bit of everything every day. Slow down! Don’t reveal all your cards!

That Tan Jing’s song gives me chills…So emotional. It feels like something old. This dinosaur loves it! Thank you, sis. I’m taking this song home with me.
It’s so ethereal, haunting, and poetic. The chorus. *cries*

What I’m thinking is: why pick when I can watch both (and lose copious amounts of sleep in the process)? Both look fun and I hope (HOPE) they turn out a lot better executed than 孤芳不自赏. And am loving the music so far in both!

The OST is gold omg… its been awhile since I liked a Cdrama OST! It kinda made me really sad when I listened to it while reading the introduction to the drama…

I also prefer this one to 3L3W. Like Juli, although I like Jing Tian, I only noticed 1 JT drama, Ban Shu Legend. With YuMa’s heavy signature on BSL, I wasn’t able to watch BSL. Wan Qian, Mao Ji Zun and the others are pretty good actors too. 3l3w looks like 1 of those popular commercial dramas under the “love is above everything” trademark and formula. Oh. He did not glance at me today. I don’t think I can eat anything this week. Even breathing is so difficult now. 😛
Kappy, Mao JZ has moved up in the drama world some. Remember in Qin Shi Huang Fei, WH, Yan Yikuan and his 2 royal siblings and royal father, plus a number of princes whose names no one could remember all fell in love with Princess Ruby Lin? Yet MJZ did not even have a chance to pine for Ruby Lin there. At least he is now qualified to pine for the leading lady in recent dramas.

I agree! I watch MJZ’s various roles with pleasure. Whereas with LYF, whenever I watch lyf parts, I have to remind myself how much shimo likes LYF, just to be able to continue watching. haha. tbh, I’d choose MJZ over LYF anyday.

Aww you’re a good drama friend, An. =)
Me too. Mao Mao (can we nickname him this?) surprised me in Chusen. Unexpected. Could see why he loved the role a lot.

Aww.. Hugs… 🙂 Maomao is a good nickname. I think Maomao was pretty good in that drama, Scholar Beauty, with Zhang Meng, Han Dong, Wu Qian etc. But I didn’t watch that much of the drama. The plot is not my cup of tea. Also, I think the lead girl, ZM’s character, may be as frustrating as the animated lead girl in Rhaksasa St.

Excited for this! The color palette for this drama is my cup of tea.
I must be the only one who’s feeling meh about the songs though. Sun Nan’s and Tan Jing’s voices are undoubtedly beautiful, but the music and the lyrics are pretty generic. Oh well. Hopefully I will stay for the plot and characters, haha.

I am soooo looking forward to this drama, hopefully, it will live up to my expectation unlike most of the dramas in 2016. The actors’ acting skill is decent and the storyline is my cup of tea, I am always up for a good palace drama. Plus, I’m so in love with the music, especially Sun Nan’s Wei Jiang Shan, these composers really know how to get your blood pumping with excitement.

@cyndi, the OTP is Emperor Daizong and Consort Shen (aka Pearl or Zhen Zhu).
Anyone when the “peak” period(s) of the Tang dynasty was? I thought Tang’s peak may be the earlier part of Emperor Xuanzong’s time or earlier. Near the time of Empress Wu’s reign.
I read they had some powerful women like Empress Wu Zetian’s female advisor Shangguan during Empress Wu’s reign. Not too far from this era, they had famous poets like Li Bai, Du Fu. Many scholars and monks from Japan visited Tang to study. Silk road trade flourished. Empress Wu and other emperors commissioned some impressive monuments like Luoyang’s Long Men Grottoes.
Could Emperor Daizong’s time be already past the peak glory times of Tang? He had to get Chang An back from An Lushan’s descendants with the help of Muslim troops. Just thought the drama title may be a bit off?

Agreed! Love the color contrast in here, makes it seem regal and all. 🙂
I just listen for the melody/beat, not the lyrics. LOL. If I understand the lyrics, my enjoyment might be less. heh.

Never mind. After a few eps, the poet Li Bai appears and he’s supposed to be Consort Chen’s Shifu. That clears up the time period for me.
