Oooo! I would like for this to happen! The latest casting news has Chen Xiang (Tornado Girl) and Guo Xiao Ting (Chinese Paladin) up for the leading roles. They might change the two-wives storyline after all? YAY! Nicky Wu is listed as the artistic director and Liu Shi Shi might put in a cameo appearance for the upcoming webdrama produced by youku. Not even sure the word remake is the right word since the story is based of the novel…. Should say adaptation instead.
TVB’s Adaptation Released in 2001:
A Step Into The Past is an ancient drama produced by TVB in 2001; the story is based on a novel of the same name by Huang Yi and follows a police officer (Louis) as he travels back in time to the warring periods of China and gets involved in many historical events leading to the unification of China under the Qin dynasty. Raymond Lam played the first emperor of Unified China, aided by Louis along the way.
Lol. What was he wearing. Still looking cute. XD
Guo Xiao Ting in her older dramas.
Youku Promo Poster.
Old Soundtrack:
Filming for the new adaptation begins rolling in February 2017.

It was a classic drama! Louis was superb in it.

YEP! Louis was way way too good which will be worrisome for a remake for sure. I really like Xiaolong’s attitude, hopefully that stays the same. But I really hope the scripts are all new so there won’t be all those comparisons about the past.
The Louis drama was really boring toward the end, and everybody hate that Jessica character was raped, they better take that out. On top of that, it is another time traveling…sigh…but glad they know they better chose Guo Xiao Ting, she’s finally recognized! Thanks so much for sharing, I want to watch this for sure.

Oh wow, I don’t remember that detail about Jessica’s story. Hope it gets removed!

I agree, the whole plot insertion of Jessica’s rape made no sense to me then and it still makes no sense to me now. If that enraged people, I don’t understand why XLN’s rape in The Return of the Condor Heroes didn’t. And in fact, the story is still so popular.

Likewise! Comparison is inevitable. There are a couple TVB classics, making the remakes pale in comparison.
Jessica was sick during filming; therefore, her character was somewhat butchered along the way. Her rape story was to add sympathy to her character because Sonija’s character filled up the love story.

That drama where Raymond had horrible eyebrows. How can I forget it xD
But the novel is pretty good and this was one of the few TVB dramas where I like the time traveling stuff they had. Also because I like Louis, Raymond, Jessica, and pretty much a lot of people in the supporting cast lol.
Can see why they had picked Chen Xiang and yay Guo Xiao Ting gets her spotlight to shine!

I never noticed that, maybe to make him look evil lol…but Raymond did really well in there too.

If I remember correctly it was his 1st role too and he definitely left an impression

I absolutely thought this drama was one of Raymond’s finest works from when he started acting until now. That’s saying a lot as to how steeply he’s declined since then. You can tell he had a lot of passion, even if he was a little raw. The enthusiasm definitely made up for it though (IMO.)

The horrible brows stay with you for a long time. XD
The cast was wonderful, from main to supporting, loved them all.

My childhood drama omg! Total classic! Hopefully this adaption will be good… but I don’t think anyone can bring out that good old TVB drama vibes anymore. Great memories! Even the OST is awesome!
Wait, that is Guo XiaoTing in that first picture beside Chen Xiang? I’m quite excited for her since I haven’t seen her in the more popular dramas and she seemed to have disappeared for me!

One of the fun childhood dramas for me too1
It is. I didn’t recognize her at first either. Lol.

I don’t remember much of what happened in the original drama so not worried about comparing this adaptation to it XD
Hooray for Chen Xiang finally leading!

I think comparison is inevitable for every remake. We know this by heart, tokkita! 😀

I thought China banned all time-traveling dramas? ASIP is a time-travel one. How will they maneuver around that?
19 thoughts on “A Step Into The Past 2017 with Chen Xiang and Guo Xiao Ting”
Apparently, the so-called time-traveling banned was silently lifted. Must be this –> $$
There are so many time-traveling dramas now.
But I like ASITP. (Except the r*pe part, that needs to go)

I love the classic. Louis Koo was great and I like Jessica. I hope the new one will be good.

This is one of my favorite TVB drama. I remember watching it so many times. I love how Louis act like how a modern time guy would, sprouting English phrases here and there, giving an elderly lady chocolate for her bark soup (this scene! LOL), it was just a fun drama, but unfortunately got too dramatic towards the end. Other than that, it was awesome.
It was one of Louis last few TVB dramas, before he went full time movie star status. And the only last few work where he still looks good. Age is not doing him well. At least he’s a good actor but man do he look creepy now a days.
Chen Xiang has some big shoes to fill. Louis was incredible. I can’t imagine anyone else being better for the role, but I do wish him luck.
