Man, this is why smaller productions get little promotions, their promotional materials suck! Not a lot of pretty stills and a whole extended trailer to spoil your viewing experience (well, this aspect isn’t new but still!). Here is another period drama with a revenge theme, for those of you who prefer this subject. Nothing new. In Distressed Beauty (卿本佳人), our heroine (Jia Qing) comes from a rich family but her family is murdered in one day, leaving her and younger sis to fend for themselves. In her poor state, she meets and falls in love with a well-meaning man (Chen Ruo Xuan). Unfortunately, once she finds clues related to her family massacre, she marries into the enemy’s lair, setting herself up with their dumb son (Kim Jung Hoon), who isn’t quite what he appears to be, while pre-marriage boyfriend gets attacked and turns his life around to become a pirate. LOL! I swear he designed himself after Captain Sparrow.

Just reading that synopsis hurts my head already. The plot seems over dramatic.

Wow Kim Jung hoon looks rough. He used to be very good looking, very princely. And I don’t think it’s the makeup or role. It’s like his face went and Leonardo dicaprioed itself. Age is a you know what.

Yeah Kim Jung Hoon aged pretty badly. I used to have hard time picking him between Shin in Goong but the other guy aged better. I also can’t get over how awkward he looks in ancient garb in that Yoona’s drama. Sorry forgot the name…

Chen Ruo Xuan is also making a guest appearance as Murong Feng for that Han Dong Jun and Sun Yi drama. I think he looks better in a military uniform.
This drama’s plot sounds like a mash of other plots out there with a pirate twist. Actually, it vaguely reminds me of Qing Ding San Sheng where Yang Rong marries into a rich family while her pre-marriage boyfriend is a bandit. Same concept here except BF is a pirate lol.
