Shawn Dou, Li Qin, and Zhang Yun Long for Tears In Heaven

Ready or not, here comes another melodrama dropped in your laps! Tears In Heaven is the English name for the drama adaptation of novel Variety Flowers At Seaside (剧海上繁花) written by Fei Wo Si Cun. After reading the summary, I now know why Miss Fei’s nickname is Stepmother. She’s very cruel to her characters, especially the female lead, hence I admit to not being a fan of her stories. But it seems like producers are drawn to them, adapting one after another. Some of her novels-to-dramas include Too Late to Say I Love You, Sealed With A Kiss, Chronicle of Life, and Siege in Fog. In the latest project, she has secured the lovely faces of Shawn Dou, Li Qin, and Zhang Yun Long to play out her melodrama. WHYYYYYYYY. I love these kids and so watching them suffer is ideally not the best but it will be a challenge for the boys as I have yet to see them emotionally challenged.

But after reading the drama synopsis, looks like changes have been made, so yay and nay for that…

Summary of the Novel Written by Kappy: For 1/3 of the story, the love story is between our heroine and the second male lead (or the first man she truly loves). Our heroine is Du Xiao Su (Li Qin), a reporter who moves to the big city in Shanghai after a heartbreak only to find herself attracted to a handsome and kind doctor, Shao Zhen Rong (Zhang Yun Long), the perfect man in everyone’s eyes. Their love is gentle and they even share thoughts of marriage and family house together. Unfortunately, the writer rips apart this love story in the most tragic way possible. The appearance of Zhen Rong’s older brother, Lei Yu Zheng (Shawn Dou), forces Xiao Su to break up with Zhen Rong out of shame. When she was younger, she had a one-night stand with a stranger and that said man is Yu Zheng….. Zhen Rong refuses to break up with her without knowing the reason and fight for her understanding. When she finally relents to give their love a chance and tell him the reason, she waits and waits for him to come home. He never does….

***SPOILERS AHEAD***

Our poor doctor never makes it home because he dies in an earthquake/mudslide? Ripped apart by the pain of his death, Xiao Su desperately wants to hold onto the house they promised to live in together. Thus begins her pleas toward Yu Zheng to give her the house. Described as cold person, Yu Zheng rarely shows his emotions. He doesn’t believe in love for he grew up with materialistic women throwing themselves at him. While he doesn’t want to look at Xiao Su, he can’t stop himself from caring about her either. It was the day of Zhen Rong’s birthday when he sees Xiao Su drunk and drenched in the rain and her sorrow speaks to him. He takes her home and in her hazy mind, she sees Zhen Rong in the older brother… They kiss. A lot more happen to bring the two lonely souls towards each other.

Finally, Yu Zheng realizes he loves Xiao Su when he sees her with another man. Angry and jealous, he rails at her for lying about her love towards Zhen Rong. He doesn’t know why he’s so upset but he forces himself on her…. [Yes, this is the R scene.] After the deed, Xiao Su runs away. With one humiliation after another, she wants to end her life but in the last minute, Yu Zheng pushes her out of harm’s way and gets hit instead. The time he spends in the hospital, their love deepens.

Alas….she is pregnant with his child. Krap. Ashamed of her action, she decides to not keep the baby. When he knows that having a baby is hard for Xiao Su, he decides to let her move away and live safely in the states with their child.

The story of waiting begins. Waiting for time to cure all wounds of the past. Waiting for time to lessen the pain of death. Waiting for time to finally open the eyes of those around. That living means moving on. While Xiao Su stubbornly denies her love for Yu Zheng, she doesn’t realize the said man is even more stubborn, waiting for her from behind.

From what I read, they finally get their happy ending in a side story, reuniting the pained love birds after 6 years of separation.

The Drama Synopsis: Reporter Du Xiao Su (Li Qin) meets and falls in love with Shao Zhen Rong (Zhang Yun Long), but his mother is passionately against their love. During his medical trip to the mountains, our doctor dies in a mudslide. To forget the pain of his death, our heroine works and works until exhaustion sends her to the hospital. All her suffering is witnessed by Lei Yu Zheng (Shawn Dou) and he silently helps her from the side, which provokes the wrath of our resident second female lead (Wang Rui Zi), who makes our heroine’s life at work harder. More scheming happens to make Yu Zheng’s company fall and with the support of Xiao Su, he makes a comeback and their misunderstanding is eventually cleared up.

The drama synopsis simplifies everything… Now I’m conflicted. Can we change Shawn’s name first? XD And can we stop making the second female leads a jealous B all the time? Sigh.

AHAHHAHAHAAAHAAHHAAHHAHAHA, laughing to death about the name….!

“Tears in Heaven” I was thinking of a remake of Chiung Yao’s drama, the one with the beautiful Shui Ling and Athena Chu and the evil Vincent Jiao.

I really agree about the second lead being an evil B. All the actresses are pretty in here, it’ll be quite a waste of talents to see someone only play nothing else besides being evil to get the main guy. Wish those ladies have better goals then just guys.

You would think escaping to heaven, there would be no more tears. Lol.

Athena and Shui Ling, one deadly combination. =D

I always thought the title was cool but never thought of it that way, interesting!

Thank you so much for the introduction to the novel and to the drama adaptation..while I really dislike all those crazy stalker second females…the drama sounds better to me just because of the missing rape scene..well I am hoping that they deleted this scene…the novel synospis reminds me too much of lots of lakorns..where the main protagonist rapes the girl..and despite this, they have a HE…because really..this is a huge no no for me..no sane person would stay with someone that did this to them or someone else.

    • 16 thoughts on “Shawn Dou, Li Qin, and Zhang Yun Long for Tears In Heaven

I feel you! I heard that thai lakorns are trying to stop their raping scenes now too, it’s a very bad influence. Never applicable in real life any way any how, unacceptable to me. I didn’t know the real story has that!

    • 16 thoughts on “Shawn Dou, Li Qin, and Zhang Yun Long for Tears In Heaven

I know! I’m glad they removed the R scene because that would turn me away from the drama. R-ing a female character to show your jealousy/love for her is never, ever, EVER acceptable to me.

@Yoyo, you skipped the novel summary! Lol.

I have a problem with Shawn’s name as well! ? Maybe Fei Wo Si Cun is hinting about something 😛

I keep seeing Yumama’s face instead of Shawn’s. LOL!

Am I the only one that think that novel story is far more interesting than the drama (minus the R-scene of course, a man rape a woman, and justify it as love is a no no). The drama synopsys is just so-so, another ordinary boring drama. They should not delete the brotherhood story line, because that is the highlight of the story, she cannot be with yuzheng (I really hate this name), because he is the brother of the man she loves.

    • 16 thoughts on “Shawn Dou, Li Qin, and Zhang Yun Long for Tears In Heaven

No, I’m with you jaesuk, hence I was conflicted on how they simplified everything to a typical plotline. I’m hoping they will keep the brotherhood story (they didn’t explicitly state the boys’ relationship in the synopsis) but for now, it’s logical for them to keep it – or else our male lead would look like a CEO stalker… (which is another typical device…)

      Ah!

Well the faces are pretty to look at. But i scratch my head reading the novel’s sypnopsis and the drama. It feels like a whole different story, i cant even call it an adaptation. I of coz am happy they choose to forgo the R scene. SWAK that drama despite being popular- i couldnt finish it. The drama retain character names, a dead first love and shawn dou attracted to her.. but iyou can attach a different title and change the character names- it might not be recognisable from the original novel.

So I guess I’m the only one who thought of the sad song by Eric Clapton “Tears in Heaven”…

“I must be strong and carry on
Cos I know I don’t belong here in heaven”

    ??????????
