Till Death Tear Us Apart is based on the novel 愉此一生 written by Nan Zhi. Director Chen Peng brought his group of boys to the republican period and let them continue their love story. Liu Yu Sheng (Jiang Zi Le) hails from a rich family. After studying abroad, he returns home to find his asset/inheritance stolen by his other family members. To make a living, he has to work as a teacher at a small school. In this hopeless state, he meets an old friend in Zhou Yao Hua (Yan Zi Dong), who harbors a crush on him for the longest time. Thus begins Yu Sheng’s rounds of difficult choices.

The costumes are so pretty! I like that they used the coloring contrast to show their personalities. Male lead is obviously the gentle type with soft and pastels colors and the other guy has stronger hues in darker shades. I like this better than Love is More than a Word.

Definitely agreed about the color contrasts to distinguish the boys. I just want to keep one piece for myself.

“Sprained ankle” is the cleaned-up version of being shot(?) in the derriere in the novel ?

Ironically, if Love is More Than a Word drama had followed the novel closely. nothing except for the wedding would be censored. If Till Death Tear Us Apart drama had followed the novel closely, very little would survive censorship. However, it’s hard to say whether all the changes will benefit the drama.

I wasn’t familiar with this genre at all.
I started reading Love is More Than a Word because the drama was pretty good, and to know how the edited out scenes compared with the novel. They weren’t in the novel at all. Book is good. The story is quite nice. Interactions between the OTP are definitely different, much more internal and restrained, yet compelling as the story moves along.
The novel Till Death Tear Us Apart is much more explicit, i.e. rated-R in places of later chapters. Zhou Yao Hua returned to wartime China from the US in 1944 specifically for Liu Yu Sheng. The conflict between the OTP was mostly due to Liu Yu Sheng’s “moral” resistance to their relationship, nothing political at all. Zhou Yao Hua was supportive throughout. Looks like the drama chose to externalize that conflict by putting them in opposing political camps.

thanks for the tidbit, keekeepod . i think thats why relying on the novel’s synopsis could be misleading too cause they always change/add/delete stuff when making a drama. you never know what’s the finished product is like when they edit it so much.
so the drama was pretty good. iuno if im ready to watch a full on boy boy romance yet. lols.

For weird reasons, I thought the posters were pretty funny ^^” How they show their other character in Love is more than a word ^^”
Anyway the costumes look better on them here… except for “Gu She”… he looks good in anything haha
