Tribes and Empires: Storm of Prophecy reveals sweat and blood behind the scene

How is it possible that everything about this drama intrigues me? Even the behind-the-scene video is slick and sounds epic to the ears than your typical promotional materials for other dramas! At this point, even if the script fails, I can purely watch for the visual festivity before my eyes. But honestly, after seeing the amount of work they poured in for the set, materials, and costumes, I have a new found respect for the production team, going above and beyond to map out their imaginations into concrete settings. I love you Tribes, don’t fail me.

Four New Stills:

Huang Xuan. Our isolated and lonely prince.

Shawn Dou, the abandoned general’s son. YOU SO BEAUTIFUL. I CAN’T WAIT FOR YOUR LOOK IN PRINCESS AGENTS. I love his HAIRSTYLE in here.

The dark horse of the three male leads for sure is Zhou Yi Wei. The intensity he brings to his character is unbelievable. And the almost-bald look on him is freakin sexy. Never thought I would say that. XD

Behind-the-Scene Epicness:

Directed swiftly by Cao Dun (The Sweet Burden), he will also be working on the drama scripts with Jin He Zai (novel author), Wei Jing Na, and Tian Yan Juan. The series has about 50 episodes and filming wrapped up successfully after 10 months.

My God. How much more impressive can you get??? I imagine the budget behind this drama would be insanely high and unimaginable. This crew works their butts and backs off and you can really tell. At this point my expectations have risen to a level that I never even knew existed lol. Has this crew ever created any other drama/movies before? Shandong Television Media Group may have a tough competitor in the future if this drama lives up to expectations. NiF has been the pinnacle of period-drama success for awhile now so it would be interesting to see if this drama can be just as good or even surpass it :3

The last time I remember, the production company and the director mostly work on modern dramas and this is their first major dip into the ancient period dramas. Definitely making a bang with this splash!

Thumbs up to another Chinese production that is conscientious about quality!

I have a question. What b祖 is? Or maybe who?

It’s the B team of the production. They finished filming their sectiong (this production has many groups working together at the same time)

Thank you! But why 祖 is used as “team”. Isn’t it an “ancestor”?

        • 17 thoughts on “Tribes and Empires: Storm of Prophecy reveals sweat and blood behind the scene

Yes ‘祖’ means ancestor but a different word is used at 4:52 when they say B ‘组’. 组 means team – it has the same pronunciation as ‘祖’ but the left side of the character is different (the head/root of the word (部首)) which makes it a different meaning. Go back and have a look at the subtitles at 4:52.

In Chinese there are a lot of words like these that have the same pronunciation but completely different meaning if the head/root of the word is different. That is a because a lot of Chinese characters are 形声字 (semantic phonetic compound characters), which means half the word is the ‘meaning’ and half the word is the ‘sound/ pronunciation’. It is probably the most common character form in the Chinese language. So in our example the left half of the character gives the word it’s meaning and the right half gives the word the sound/pronunciation. Hence completely different meaning but same pronunciation.

Thank you! I guess I created my problem myself. Every time than I can’t translate something, in the end, I just search the wrong character in the dictionary.

Wow, thanks for the trailer. It gives us an appreciation of the hard work put into producing this drama series. There is no doubt that no expense is spared in its production to ensure its quality. Let’s hope the story line is just as good and interesting! I am a fan of the up and coming Huang Xuan (discovered him in The Interpreter and he was very good in that series), so will definitely watch this series when it is being released.

No problem! You might get tired of me talking about this drama real soon. Lol!

Huang Xuan is the shining star this year, many begin seeing him nowadays. 😉

I certainly hope this dramas sells well because it looks like a lot of money has been put into it (and they can’t do product placement in ancient dramas…..except for Go Princess Go).

Definitely on my watch list – cannot let such epicness go wasted. I expect their is a lot of post production work that still needs to be done with CGI and wiping out all the wires etc. but can’t wait! If this is successful there will be more money invested into the Novoland stories to be turned into dramas.

I really hope it doesn’t disappoint because at the moment my expectations are NIF level high.

I’m with you on the sky-high expectations. Still standing on the tower, ready to be swept off my feet!

Thank you so much for this update and trailer! It’s one of the few period dramas I’m extremely ecstatic about! Reminds me a bit on the works of my favorite move, Lord of the Rings. The horse scenes and location is spectacular. I hope the story line is equally as beautiful. I’m waiting for this one for sure.

Also question – has anyone bought this drama yet? Like TV station or online platform. I think I head that Hunan bought it but I’m not sure.

I remember reading the same thing too. HNTV likes the big guns, guaranteed money and ratings for them.
