Oho Ou, Zhang Hui Wen headline film Crying Out In Love

Adapted from Japanese novel Socrates in Love (恋するソクラテス) written by Kyoichi Katayama, Crying Out In Love stars two rising faces, Oho Ou Hao and Zhang Hui Wen, in a mournful love story. 20 years after his high school graduation, our hero receives a parcel in the mail that prompts a short vacation back to his hometown, where he recalls the days of youthful folly. While the heroine remains only in memories, this trip down memory lane encourages the hero to open up his heart (move on) and understand the world outside of himself/his existence.

The trailer is so cute, why is this a melo?!

Other Adaptations of the Same Novel:

Synopsis from Wiki: In a small town of southern Japan, Sakutaro “Saku” Matsumoto and Aki Hirose, classmates since junior high, become high school students. During this time they begin to date and their conversations circle around the idea of what love really is, beginning after Saku’s grandfather shares his own past love story with Saku.

After a trip the two take to an abandoned island, Aki discovers she has leukemia, which limits her chances to go outside or see Saku. Once Saku learns the truth, he buys flight tickets to take Aki to Australia’s Uluru (Ayers Rock); a place she had always wanted to visit after missing the school trip there, but she dies before she could board the plane.

The story takes place as a flashback through Saku’s eyes as he and Aki’s parents travel to Australia to spread Aki’s ashes in the place she had always wanted to see.

Trailer:

  • I have to say these two didn’t leave an impression on me in their previous movies but here, they are utterly charming and ado rable. They seem sweetly in love and no one is purposely written as mean for the sake of I-like-you-so-Im-mean. *thumbs up*
  • Also, you know what I realize? This movie is an interesting collaboration of three worlds – based on a Japanese novel, acted by Chinese actors, and directed by Korean PD Kwak Jae Yong (My Sassy Girl, Meet Miss Anxiety). Interesting!

Crying Out In Love hits theaters on August 26th.

They have some capable actors in the Japanese adaptations!! Very tempted to watch them. Any comments on those two? I like a good heart-breaking story. Not sure if it’s strayed towards that positive side.

You’re right, the trailer is very appealing! I remember watching in the Left Ear. Horrible characters all around. LOL.

I will have some comments when I come around and watch those adaptations. For now, it’s pretty darn sweet trailer!

Woah, Sekai no Chūshin de, Ai o Sakebu is nostalgic! It was very popular in Japan back in those days, I remember my friend crying at every episode and I couldn’t even get pass episode 1 because of the slowness and melodrama, lolol.

The trailer focuses more on the happy part, huh. Not gonna catch it, something about Zhang Hui Wen’s accent throws me off (after that movie she did with LYF) D:

I watched the movie…cried a bucket at the end. Read the manga and cried another bucket full.

It’s a very sweet romance, just them learning about love, learning about death and then learning to love while facing death, then learning to live when death takes love away.

If they can pull it off then I would be one happy camper

The stills of the lead girl freaks me out. Someone should tell her its not a horror flick.
