Adapted from the novel Gu Fang Bu Zi Shang or A Lonesome Fragrance Waiting to be Appreciated (孤芳不自赏), the drama title has been decided to be General and I, and our smart heroine plots her way back to her master in the enemy territory with a new identity. I like the plain and simple style here, kind of remind me of Carman Lee and can really make me see why she was a xiaolongnu candidate. Wow….last time I saw Wallace Chung in the magic blade left me so sad and upset that the cute guy had grown old and bald headed, but he’s looking just fine and good in here again, yay…!

Very plain and simple, which brings out her beauty. On the contrary, the focus isn’t on your beauty when the outfits and hair accessories overpower your looks. Good choice for ABB.
Now, I know why she didn’t take on BY. Her role in here is much better, lol She’s the lead, not co-leading, and she’s the center of the plot like YZG.

she didnt do chusen because the production kept on delaying the start time. her schedules got clashed and she had to pull out. she could ideally do both (chusen ends in march and this one only started) and saved the mess of actress-switcheroo rage that followed…….. the bashing on li ying was horrible.
but then this is good role for any actress to catch since the main focus is on the female lead.

it was more like a verbal confirmation. angelababy as an actress isn’t that ambitious so she would have done it. she tried out for the role and WAS gonna be the female lead above yang zi in terms of billing since her name has more weight and she was first to be mentioned along with li yi feng to generate buzz. only after she wasn’t gonna be in was the long list of potential actresses were revealed. they tried to negotiate but a set schedule is a set schedule.
but anyway, she looks amazing and that is all that matters. the mess was a mess.

Wallace Chung’s fans insist that he’s the lead even though IMO this is female-centric. I was reading the fan forums and they were talking about how they must secure his top billing (I do think he’s going to get it though, but the fans can hardly take credit for it). I like him a lot, but male actors really have the most rabid fans…

All of Wallace’s last dramas were from the female lead’s perspective in the novel (best time, too late to say I love you, my sunshine). However, the dramas version pretty much made him the focal point because his portrayal of the character outshines at the end.
I’m sure it will be the same case here too. Angelababy can’t carry this film.

The novel is female-centric though, it’s not merely from the female lead’s POV, it’s about HER as the main focus. But yes, since they cast Wallace Chung, his top billing is guaranteed, since they need big names, and Angelababy’s last drama was a flop. Lol. But that still doesn’t change the fact that the story is female-centric, with the heroine’s wits being played up against the men around her and how she successfully gets her ways the majority of the time. That’s the charms of the novel – a plain girl with smarts to outwit everyone else.
What is there to debate about?

No debated needed…agreed! My point was I wish they would give Faith’s to the source materials and stay focused on the female as the book.The drama is already not going to be like the novel. I read all 3 vol and casting Angela was already the wrong move. I’m thinking they are going with the theme of a super smart girl who had everything: looks, music talent, military knowledge, etc.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m fond of Angela (from runningman), but as a fan of the novel…I’m just disappointed.

From what I get, WC’s fans think that AB’s company is pushing for her to be top-billed. Apparently it’s a huge travesty since WC’s is the “absolute lead”. My take on the issue is that it’s not going to happen. Even if it did happen, this is – as we all agree – a female-centric novel and she should get top billing under normal circumstances. However, they are commenting and dm-ing whoever’s in charge of social network promotions just so that WC’s name can be put in front of AB’s or something along the lines of that. Seriously (= = ‘). I’m confident that WC’s agency or whatever can deal with these issues since obviously that’s what they are there for. Fans going to great lengths to help their favourite celebrities is, well, good for them, but it sounds all too funny to bystanders. Not like it helps too. This is why I do a lot of eye-rolling every time I go to a popular actor’s Baidu tieba.
