Michelle Chen’s upcoming movies: Pali Road, Scandal Maker

Looks who’s keeping herself busy with film after film. Michelle Chen returns to movie land with a couple of projects under her belt. The two that caught my attention are on opposite end of the spectrum – thriller Pali Road and comedy Scandal Maker.

Happy Mother’s Day! ^___^

Stills for Scandal Maker:

In Scandal Maker (外公芳龄38), Michelle plays a single mother, and with her child in toll, she arrives on her father’s door, a famous MC/radio host who charms the pants off the ladies. Hijinks ensue on all front when grandfather just wants an orderly life. If it sounds familiar to you, this is a movie remake of Cha Tae Hyun’s Scandal Makers in 2008. Hoho. It’s gonna be hard to top both Cha Tae Hyun and Park Bo Young’s performance. And the kid! They’re like Triple Threats. Out in theaters July 15th.

Tong Da Wei might just be the most recognizable face in theaters. I feel like he’s in every film out there. Lol. At one of the press conferences, Michelle calls Da Wei the Jim Carrey of China, for his ability to smoothly jump from drama to comedy.

Stills for Pali Road:

Pali Road (夏威夷之恋) is a joint production between China and USA. The story follows Michelle as a young doctor who wakes up from a car accident with no recollection of her past. All of a sudden, she has a husband, a son, and a perfect family. However, memories of the past can’t stay hidden forever and it’s up to her to kick-start the investigation to get her life back. Currently playing in theaters.

Looks interesting, but what does boyfriend think of her kissing a white man? Lol **hides

I know this is subjective but Chen Xiao FTW! ;P

Michelle looks really good in these! I’ve never had a problem with Michelle herself, but with Condor Heroes (honestly I thought the whole thing was a fail) and Legend of Qin, I just thought her styling/character didn’t really fit. Like change is good, but change can also be unwelcome and inappropriate. But here I actually for once think she’s NATURAL and fittingly adorable in the comedy one, and uncharacteristically mature with substance and depth in the second. Not really a fan of Rathbone, but that’s a personal opinion. Personally I’m more looking forward to the comedy one.

Yay for her! Creating new images for herself. I just hope that she can start moving away from the overly-cute, exaggerated “mai-mong” “sa-jiao” type character. It’s working really well in the comedy one cuz the character fits, but not so much in others (which is why I REALLY didn’t take too well to her portrayals in Condor and LoQ). So even though I’m really not interested in watching Pali Road, she’s looking really good there, so kudos for her!

Hope Michelle and Chen Xiao stay happy!

Lol. I never had anything against Michelle Chen. It was simply a total miscast for her to play Xiao Long Nv. XD I think the comedy one will bring in good words for her because she looks utterly cute and charming. Plus, she speaks English quite well in Pali Road! Surprised!

Michelle does speak English rather fluently. I saw a video of her interview in English.

Thank you, Kap, for all your nice updates! I think Michelle Chen attended the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. So it’s not surprising her English is pretty good. Californians often call USC the Univ of Spoiled Children as it’s an expensive private school with a lot of students from affluent families. Raymond Lam Fung supposedly also attended this same school but he may not have graduated.

hahah Uni of Spoiled Children. Let me text my spoiled friends! XD

Michelle was miscast as XLN, but it wasn’t necessary for so many bully netizens to castigate her with cruel words. She got so depressed at one point. I’m glad Chen Xiao cheered her up.

Did I just read that TDW will be playing Michelle Chen’s father? Isn’t TDW only 4 years older or something? What’s with her and miscasting really? Is she supposed to be PBY’s age?

    • 13 thoughts on “Michelle Chen’s upcoming movies: Pali Road, Scandal Maker

Well, Park Bo Young is 26 and Michelle is 32. Tong Da Wei, 37, and Cha Tae Hyun, 40. Who could believe CTH is 40?!! *shrugs*

      • 13 thoughts on “Michelle Chen’s upcoming movies: Pali Road, Scandal Maker

PBY was 18. And her age difference with CTH is 14. That’s sorta believable. But Michelle Chen & TDW have a 4 year age difference. They totally look like they belong to the same generation.

        • 13 thoughts on “Michelle Chen’s upcoming movies: Pali Road, Scandal Maker

I know. I was referencing their age now, since the age difference stays the same as they age. Lol.

Tee hee, miscast or not, I find it quite refreshing to finally have an actor, who is a few years older than his female co-star, to play her father. It’s usually the other way around, save a few exceptions like Liu Tao and Hu Ge in Nirvana in Fire (although on the other hand, in the same drama Liu Min Tao plays Wang Kai’s mom, while she’s only 6 years older).
