Lovely costumes for Gui Zhong Mei Ren with Hu Bing Qing, Chen Yao

First official stills of our Fox Ladies are out and they are looking quite adorable, at least from my end. Both girls are stick-skinny so I think sticking (no pun intended) to ancient dramas with elaborate and puffy costumes suit their body. Heh.

The synopsis of the novel that I translated a month ago: Gui Zhong Mei Ren (柜中美人) is a drama adaptation of the novel (胭脂醉) written by Shui He. Hu Bing Qing as Qing Feng and Chen Yao as Fei Luan; former is a yellow-throated marten and the latter is a fox spirit. Docile Fei Luan is taken in by Qing Feng’s mother and both grew up to be a pair of close sisters. Vic Zhou will play the new emperor of the Tang Dynasty and Chen Ruo Xuan will play the gentle scholar preparing for the Imperial Examination. The current emperor at the time neglects his duties and spends time playing and frolicking with the ladies. He also has a habit of hunting foxes late at night. With their declining population and innocent deaths rising, the enraged Fox Clan wages a war against the royal family. They reserve a special pearl that boosts power and beauty to the consumer, which is stolen by the pair of sisters and split between them. They enter the Palace as dancers to fulfill the mission of killing the Emperor. But before the sisters could kill the emperor, he’s abruptly assassinated, and the throne goes to Vic Zhou’s character (after the Crown Prince is killed off too). It’s love at first sight for Qing Feng with the new handsome king, but his eyes follow the demure and innocent personality of Fei Luan. To keep the King for herself, Qing Feng becomes a matchmaker for Fei Luan and the scholar, and they do end up together as a couple. Obstacles arise left and right, testing Qing Feng and the King’s love. She’s sent to work as a palace maid before being freed and the King after dictating the Crown Prince, also disappears. Turns out he left his throne to live in peace with Qing Feng in the end. [Happily Ever After. DO NOT TAKE OUT AS ACCURACY IS NOT 100%]

I think it’s hilarious that they’re exceptionally skinny, but are playing girls in the Tang Dynasty, known for finding beauty in more voluptuous women. Lol. But you’re right, they totally look sweet and gorgeous. Very adorable. They look so young too! HBQ has mostly been paired with similar aged, “xiao xian rou”, so I’m cautious about the HBQ/Vic couple. I mean, Vic’s great, but admittedly he looks more mature, and well, not quite HBQ and Yao Chen’s age. I think it could work, but since we haven’t actually seen our OTP together in pics, it’s harder to picture. (Trying to picture Vic in the last works I saw him in, and honestly even though Ivy and Ariel both are known as having never-again baby faces, they have a more mature air to them that just makes them seem older that these two, so it’s not just the face, it’s the whole…idk…feel).

I can’t even think of one young Chinese actress who is voluptuous. Lol. They are all stick-skinny. Agreed with you about Vic, he has aged and the air of…. jaded experience is written in those fine fine lines. HEHE.

I’m loving the embroidery on their costumes. The colors are quite nice, though I shouldn’t be fooled by gorgeous visuals because sometimes the more beautiful it is, the less substance the script has. =P But I digress, this plot seems rather different. Nice to see the female lead take her romance into her own hands. Just hope no damage is done to their sisterhood.

Han Dong is everywhere. If he’s not busy playing the second or third male lead in dramas, he’s running around and doing guest appearances. Lol.

I’m at the point where… just fool me show! Lol. *gives up*

Han Dong must have a cloning machine somewhere… that he needs to share with ME! XD

the two ladies look like twins! They should choose two different ladies equal in beauty to give viewers different taste too, usually if not the ladies then it’s the guys that look so alike.

I haven’t watched a Vic drama in sooo long. Will have to check this out.

Hu Bing Qing is really pretty, but she gives off that stiff Liu Shi Shi vibe…

I thought HBQ was quite good in Legend of Qin and Chen Yao rocks! Never seen the male leads though – hopefully it would be good. Will be interesting to see HBQ play a non-demure role.

So, is Chen Yao one of the female leads or there is only 1 female lead? If Vic Zhou is the male lead and he gets with Hu Bing Qing, it means she is the female lead. But if Chen Yao is also a female lead, and Chen Ruo Xuan ends up with her, he can’t be the second lead, right? He should be one of the male leads. Basically, this drama has two female leads and two male leads. I just don’t get how they made Chen Ruo Xuan a second lead.

What do you think?
