Chinese Remake of Coffee Prince with Xu Lu, Yang Le begins

Mentioned this a few months back and now production will be in full gear as the whole cast has been assembled and introduced during the press conference yesterday. I wonder who gave the Chinese remake its English name because if you can’t make it better, keep it simple! Coffee Prince Lab (王子咖啡店)? WHAT? Anyway, I’m both excited and worried for them because Yoon Eun Hye and Gong Yoo set the bar…somewhere…outside the roof in terms of chemistry and Eun Hye nailed her role adorkably.

Press Conference 4/12/16: The Cast

Our lead couple – Xu Lu and Yang Le. Don’t worry, Xu Lu will cut her hair short because after contemplating and reading fan responses, it is worth it. Girl, if you don’t, they will go after you. Lol.

Xu Lu wall-smacking Yang Le. 😛 Honestly, I don’t know why this … is a trend even. Who likes to be cornered to a wall?

This cute girl below is Malaysian singer, Joyce Chu. She plays the hero’s first love. Such an adorable aura around her. Man, I can’t keep track of all the female crushes I have!

Posters and Scenes from the original 1st Shop of A Coffee Prince. Story of the original; a cool rich guy who doesn’t care much for responsibilities and lives life freely, until his grandmother gives him an ultimatum by forcing him to take over a small run-down coffee shop to show her that he’s an adult. He does and hires good-looking young men to charge the place and lure in customers. Our female lead, a tomboy and the sole breadwinner of her family, accepts the job offer and keeps her gender a secret. Thinking that she’s really a male, our hero hires her to play his gay lover to ward off the numerous blind dates his grandma sets him up with. Bickering soon develops into something more and our hero begins to question his sexuality.

The First Shop of the Coffee Prince was my first real kdrama addiction. I hope they do the story justice, it will be hard to beat the original.

  1. Wait, why is the title “Coffee Prince Lab”?

Is it because they’re going to have…

    much chemistry?

    😉

Anyway, I echo the above comment– I hope this remake is as good as the original. It’s my favorite YEH drama and my favorite Gong Yoo drama.

    1. That’s a creative way to put it Coffee. Lol. Create those chemistry peeps! You are in a LAB! Lol.

I hope C-dramas can wean off constant K-drama remakes and do original stories.

Well most are original and based off Chinese novels. Only a handful are remakes. I don’t even think the ones that were remakes were that successful because the original material wasn’t great either. Like love weaves through a millennium although I liked seeing jing Boran in a drama. He should do more dramas. *pouts*

    1. I agree with Jen, you can see that Chinese Drama air their episodes everyday. That’s why they adapted not only Chinese novel but also any other material they can find including from their neighboring countries like Japan and Korea. Chinese Ent Industry has much more drama offered in a year than even Korean and Japanese combined!

  2. Ah Joyce Chu, such a cute young Chinese-Malaysian girl. She’s only 19y.o!

This is one that is too hard to beat the original. The chemistry is just the hard part. I just am not a huge fan of yang le but I like xu lunch.

I’m not so sure about this. Coffee Prince is one of my all time favorite kdrama and I’m just not ready for a remake or I prefer not a remake at all to be honest lol. But good luck to these newbies. I will probably not going to watch it because the bar is too high and I can see this remake not living up to the original. Isn’t there a Taiwanese version of Coffee Prince already???

    1. Is the Taiwanese remake Happy Michelin Kitchen? I haven’t watched it so no idea on that part.

They ruined so many remakes! Meteor Garden, Prince Turn Into Frog, Endless Love and so much more. But then again, Korean also butchered a lot of remakes from other countries as well lol

Nope, no feel for this one either for moi. Le sigh.

I couldn’t even finish the Thai remake to CP. Not gonna try anymore. I dumped all the files I had.

What do you think?
