Remake of Ode to Gallantry with Cai Yi Da and Jenny Zhang Jia Ni

I can’t believe it’s been two years since I last talked about this remake of Jin Yong’s novel, Ode to Gallantry, and it’s still sitting on the shelf! With the recently released trailer, I hope it’s a positive light for the production. It stars relatively new faces in Cai Yi Da and Jenny Zhang. I did watch the 1989’s adaptation with Tony Leung and Sheren Tang shortly after and found it entertaining. The story is about mistaken identity between two long-lost twins. One is a sly womanizer with a humble background, Shi Zhong Yu, while the other one is a quiet, upright leader of the Changle Sect, Shi Po Tian. One is often mistaken for the other, which allows for amusing dialogues and awkward situations for their friends, foes, and lady loves.

Stills:

It’s a tough path to fill Tony’s shoes. He did such a great job distinguishing the brothers. But I shall remain hopeful for Cai Yi Da!

I, on the other hand, favored the 1985 version with Max Mok, as well as the 2002 version with Wu Jian. Shi Po Tian/
Shi Zhongyu is supposed to be the sly womanizer, and only became upright when Gouzazhong with the humble background assumed his identity.

Will have to see what changes this version makes (I already fear certain roles/characters will be minimized/removed). I loved how the 2002 version gave more story to Shi Jian’s character (first time I ever saw Deng Jiajia and made a fan out of me).

Ohh Max Mok. I haven’t seen any other version. I watched Tony’s because he never fails and the video tapes were readily available at home. Lol.

I absolutely love 1986 version,it was pretty funny! The mystery of the island made me want to keep watching, soo good. Probably not what he novel is, but that show was one of my favorite growing up. I am looking forward to this one, I hope it just as good. The main leaf is not that handsome compared with Tony hopefully his Chrisman will shine. I find the lead actress is so pretty, she has a liu shishi ando tang Yan combination going on there. Excited for this!

I agreed, when she smiles, I see Liu Shi Shi in her!

Wow how miscast are they?! He looks too old to be playing an 18 year old.

I ssaw all three versions and read the series and enjoyed Tony’s one the most. Simply because it was changed to make the characters more likable. The ones in the book are not that nice.

If they could get rid of the other girls oitside of the main 2 would be great.

The actress playing Ding Dang (the one in purple) is not really my idea of the lead girl, she’s too pretty for one. But those stills infuse some hope.

LOL! In reality, he’s two years YOUNGER than the female lead. He’s 89 and she’s 87!

Your last sentence confuses me… She’s too pretty? But Sheren Tang was a splendid beauty in the role!

Sheren Tang isn’t thatbpretty, she was just really cute and the clothes was pretty. From my memory of the book, Ding Dang was a young cute pretty girl, I find the current one entirely too pretty and less ‘cute’ then the role calls for, but acting can overcome things like this. She looks more like the 2nd lead girl’s role, the beautiful sect sister.

When I said old I do mean they both look too old. It doesn’t matter how old you really are as long as you physically looks the part. Like Jimmy Lin was over 30 already when he play 20 year old Duan Yu in Demi Gods Semi Devil.

I personally think that this particular novel doesn’t really deserve its adaptations. The lead character’s just not charming at all. Plus, I think this cast is a little too weak even considering the fact that ZJZ is known for casting (sorta) lesser known actors. Jenny Zhang’s fine, but I really don’t think I can watch this male lead and the second female lead for all of ~40 episodes. Also, I watched the trailer and it seems pretty bad to me.
