A new thriller in the house! Spy drama Decoded (解密), based on the novel of the same name written by Mai Jai, stars Cheney Chen and Ying Er as the main pair in a ever-changing world against numbers and codes. Cheney is mostly known for the Tiny Times franchise and I haven’t seen those movies to give a judgement on his acting. Looks like this is his first leading role in a drama so we shall see. Ying Er may not be everyone’s favorite but is consistently receiving filming offers.

Honestly, I kind of admit, I’m already a little biased against it. Can’t help it. I just finished watching certain episodes of Disguiser, so I mean, I’m trying NOT to compare, but really, I’m totally comparing it to Disguiser…and it’s losing…badly. I’m probably going to go on a no-Republican-era-drama diet for at least a while, maybe until either rouge or Sparrow come out, since I’m definitely watching those no matter how terrible the production hopefully will not be. For Zhou Dong Yu and Zhao Li Ying, sacrifices must be made. Ideally, they’ll be fantastic, but ever since the massive disappointment Legend of Zu and Legend of Qin were….well…let’s say I’m totally off of “Legends” for a while at least.
Haven’t really seen Cheney Chen in movies or dramas (definitely never succumbed to watching the mess that was Tiny Times…at least the mess that I hear it was), but I really like him in Real Hero (Zhen Xin Ying Xiong show with Zhang Jie and more) and Grade One (the original elementary school version). Not a huge fan of Ying Er, but I can’t really say I dislike her either. But definitely interested in seeing more of Jing Chao since his CP5 promo stills. Since Nirvana, pretty interested in Zhang Zhe Han too. Back when I saw him in Incisive Teacher (with LSS and Nicky), I didn’t really like him cuz his character was such a ridiculous snotty jerk…but since Nirvana…man. He didn’t even really play a huge role (arguable technically cuz he was damn fine as young Lin Shu), but still. However, after seeing his still here and in Ban Shu Legend, I’ve come to the conclusion that he really does look best when he smiles. Like not a polite smile, but a serious happy, arrogant Lin Shu smile. It makes him look really good. Call me shallow, but when he’s got the serious-frowny-eyebrow thing going on, his face looks extra pointy and triangular, which really doesn’t suit him.

That is an interesting observation about Zhang Zhe Han. He’s in a few upcoming productions and I think he’s nice to look at. Acting-wise, I don’t know yet. I need to watch Ban Shu Legend!

Why did they name it Unit 701?? that’s just a one digit difference from the notorious Japanese Unit 731.
