The Good and Evil of Li Yi Feng in Legend of Chusen

Yep. They finally revealed the “official” photos of our main male lead, Li Yi Feng, to the world, because we haven’t seen any leaked pictures before. Lol. He plays Zhang Xiao Fan, an average child who is tasked with menial jobs in the kitchen after him and his best friend, Jing Yu, are rescued and accepted as disciples in Qing Yun sect (the most honorable and considered as the leader of all sects at the time, please don’t pull another Zhu Mountain or Chang Liu.)

The good kitchen boy. I don’t know where they found such nice outfits in the kitchen. xD

My excitement is pretty much tampered by some fan war comments already. A war between the two leading ladies’ fans was my biggest fear coming into this drama. I love both girls so it’s hard to read. But what can you do? You have to move on. Moreover, I really hope that they don’t change the story line too much because Bi Yao’s death is the catalyst for Xiao Fan’s descent into Ghost Tear (Guo Li), the next big bad. Le sigh~

Poor girls. I feel bad for both. Andy because she’s innocent and just doing her job, and Li Ying is also just lending a hand since they asked and asked her twice to consider the role.

I blame Angelababy for causing this mess. LOL.

At least, LYF looks decent in here. The two strands of hair don’t bother me that much when I remember TVB series with thicker strands of glue. LOL.

Angelababy is very famous and at the same status as Zhao Li Ying? I don’t know why she becomes very famous; wasn’t it because she married Huang Xiao Ming? I only know that she is a model. I tried to watch Song in the Cloud, and OMG her acting. She lacks the ability to express her emotions. As an actor/actress, to be able to express your emotions is very important. No saying I don’t like her. I just don’t like her acting and how she becomes so famous because of nothing. Or maybe she did have some good works/dramas/movies which I have’t gotten to. I think for modeling she passed, but for acting, she still needs to learn more.
I couldn’t even finish Song in the Cloud. Also, this drama is very similar to any typical C-drama. So, I just get bored watching the same old stuffs with some changes to it.

angelababy started out as a model and gained a lot of controversy because of her supposedly plastic surgery, which she denied again and again, and even went to the doctor last year to prove that her features were untouched. im actually unsure now whether she has them or not… Lol….

then she dated hxm and got more attention and roles from there. but it’s really Run brothers that sealed her fanbase. she’s extremely likable and adorable with everyone. in the episode with zhao li ying, she even told jerry to protect li ying after she got eliminated first. she’s really nice in real life.

she is in more movies and movie stars tend to get more recognition than drama stars, in general.

songs in cloud is really a boring drama to begin with. yumama didn’t do a very good job there. rofls.

LOL yeah and the doctor who she paid handsomely to write that “proof” of no plastic surgery is universally ridiculed by all his colleagues for this. I looked at her so-called “proof” as signed by the doctor and the so-called videos of her testing and it’s so obvious they were all for show.

Seriously I don’t care if she has plastic surgery cuz it’s like a given in the entertainment industry but at least don’t make a ruckus saying she’s naturally born beautiful when she’s definitely not.

I mean come on it’s basic anatomy. She’s so obviously had HEAPS of plastic surgery but if it makes her look beautiful then don’t go around telling everyone that “I’m born this way”

Starting to become more and more interested in this drama. Kind of wasn’t looking forward to this because at first they didn’t release LYF’s photos, the drama seemed a little typical (and after Xuan Yuan Sword, Zu Mountain, etc, I was kind of tired of being disappointed by idol-xianxia/wuxia/fantasy), and while Yang Zi is pretty and I hear also decent in acting, I wasn’t really familiar with her works…so yeah. But now that Li Ying’s part of it, and her stills look pretty great, and LYF’s stills and styling actually look pretty damn amazing, I’m totally up for this. At this moment, I’m can’t seem to find too many great scripts and directing, so I can only really on the shallow and the pretty. LYF’s outfits look damn good and his hair looks great too. I liked Gu Jian Qi Tan well enough, but he looks SO much better here than in Ancient Sword. Especially his Guili. That hair and outfit works so well; he finally stops looking clueless and starts looking pretty badass and really looks the part. His look as the kitchen staff looks really good too. Way better than his previous stills. Although I agree with Kap, that’s some pretty fancy kitchen-ware. At least his hair looks good. I was a little worried about his ever-present two side-wisps, but they seem to fit well with his looks, so whatevs. I really hope after he becomes Guili, he doesn’t go back to being a goody-two-shoes 2D hero after his evil transformation. Even if he goes back to helping the “good guys”, at least make him complex and more “grey” than black and white. I’m not as familiar with the original story, so I honestly don’t really mind if they do change things, but if they do, maybe they should even make the “evil sect” the good guys for once and have him stay Guili till the end. That like never happens, so if it does, that’d be pretty interesting. Like shimo, I’m really looking forward to LYF play a bad guy, or at least a complex multi-layered character. Maybe he’ll get to really improve acting wise and break out of his doe-eyed, innocent, good guy character role.

While Biyao’s the catalyst, and it’d probably piss off a lot of people if she doesn’t go into a coma and disappear off screen, I actually wouldn’t mind too much, cuz after all, it’s LiYing. If her character is well-written, I wouldn’t mind seeing more of her. I doubt it would happen though, since like Kap said, she did say that she’s “willing to die for love”, so…probably won’t change Biyao’s storyline. Honestly though, don’t hate me, but I’m always going to be on the LYF/ZLY CP ship over Yang Zi. If only cuz I like those two together, and personally Biyao seems more interesting. I’m sure Yang Zi will be great, but the cold-outside-warm-inside good sect girl is so often done, I’m way more interested in the bad-sect Biyao that leads the guy astray thing. Hopefully her character lives up to expectations and they don’t make her another Mary-sue.

Not favoring the stylists but Goddamn I really give them very high points for the styling in this drama. Everyone (and not just our leads) look good and the costumes and ornaments are beautiful.

People often say LYF looks ugly in period costumes but honestly it’s just the styling. He’s got a face more suited for the modern look BUT with the right styling + hair, etc. he actually looks good in period costumes too. His Xiaofan looks sweet like the character he’s playing and his Guili is just BADASS AWESOME! 🙂

I ESPECIALLY love his Guili look because it just looks so cool and honestly it suits him even more. In the novel Xiaofan is supposed to be plain and not noticeable while Guili is supposed to inspire awe and fear everywhere he goes, so in that respect I give the stylist full points!!!

I’m so excited for this drama cuz I really like the story and I’ve been wanting to see LYF play a bad guy since the first time I saw him. I hope Guili has heaps more screen time cuz it’s gonna be awesome and honestly all the good stuff only start happening in the Guili storyline. All the interesting characters and events don’t happen till Xiaofan turns to Guili so yeah.

And honestly I just wanna see Guili go around kicking ass and basically giving all the stuck up “righteous” hypocrite “good guys” the finger while being awesome hahahahaha 🙂

Man buns and flowing locks on men are so cool. Anything BUT Qing-style pigtails which make even handsome guys look crappy,

        • 17 thoughts on “The Good and Evil of Li Yi Feng in Legend of Chusen

Totally agree. I only watched Huanzhu for the girls TBH 🙂

And also the story was good so yeah

    • 17 thoughts on “The Good and Evil of Li Yi Feng in Legend of Chusen

I dunno how they’ll write the script for the drama but in the novel Guili doesn’t go back to the “good guys” afterwards. He’s just like “Fuck it I’m leaving” and goes off to live a low-key life back in a small village and becomes a chef and his pet dog and monkey live with him.

Sometime later his true love Xueqi finds him and they live happily ever after LOL

I’ve seen some Wei and Jin Dynasty paintings of men with side wisps.
Man buns and flowing locks on men are so cool. I love the ancient hairdos – anything BUT Qing-style pigtails which make even handsome guys look crappy.

I TOTALLY 100% agree with you, which is why I usually don’t watch Qing dynasty dramas at all, because I don’t like any of the hairdos or costumes!

I love the hair bun / long hair / wisps look of the other dynasties which is why I favor them the most LOL

Also on the whole good/bad guy roles. It always bothers me that the good guys are all either cutesy and useless or powerful and cold, and the bad guys are always perverted or passionate. I always like the passionate guys, but why does passionate = bad? Script writers are always so strange in their stereotyping. (See Zu Mountain characters as exhibit A)

    • 17 thoughts on “The Good and Evil of Li Yi Feng in Legend of Chusen

the bad guys are always passionate about doing bad things. LOL.

in serious talk though, it depends on what they are passionate about. in zu legend, nicky is passionate about getting revenge for his wife = bad. but li ying is passionate about loving ding yi = doing good things for him = getting good impression. so it just depends.

now what they need to improve on is portraying the good guys. omg. everyone is so annoying in the good sect except for the monk.

LOL looks like the drama producers heard my comments cuz I’ve been saying LYF needs to play a villainy role ever since the first time I saw him in Ancient Sword! My mom will be very pleased cuz actually she was the first one to say that he has shifty eyes hahahahahaha 🙂

I hope Guili has more screen time than Xiaofan but oh well…

His Xiaofan is very cute but his Guili is just BADASS so yeah 🙂

    • 17 thoughts on “The Good and Evil of Li Yi Feng in Legend of Chusen

I know! You have been saying that since …two years ago? Villainy here we go! =D

      • 17 thoughts on “The Good and Evil of Li Yi Feng in Legend of Chusen

…So you can imagine how pleased I was when I heard that they cast LYF for Xiaofan/Guili! 🙂 When I told my mom about LYF’s casting she legit LOL’ed! She was very pleased and said that her biggest complaint about Ancient Sword was that LYF kept his inner demon repressed all the time hahahaha

Let’s hope LYF does a good job with this juicy role – and it’s a great role because the entire story is about Xiaofan’s growth and character transformation and his pain as Guili and having all his illusions shattered and coming to terms with all the tragedies in his life and stuff. This is a complex character and will be a great chance to show some acting skills! 🙂

Also I’ll be looking forward to seeing Sparrow cuz it’s basically LYF and Zhang Luyi facing off but developing friendship as well and it’s got all this spy / plots and stuff

The novel won literary prize and the drama script is penned by the author himself so let’s hope the drama is good
