Stills and trailer for fantasy drama Da Xian Ya Men with Eric Wang, Janice Wu, and Andy Chen

Unsure how to translate the Chinese Title, 大仙衙门, to English. The title in pinyin is Da Xian Ya Men. “Da Xian” literally means great immortal which alludes to our main character being honored and referred to as an immortal being for his just and righteous attitude, and “ya men” for those who don’t name was what they called the headquarter housing Chinese government officials back in the days. Ya men was where local civil and criminal cases were interrogated and solved, which is what this series is about. You will recognize the three main actors as I have introduced them before. Eric Wang from Love is Back (and currently reuniting with cutie Rachel Mao in Miss Unlucky), Janice Wu from Wallace’s My Sunshine, and Taiwanese actor, Andy Chen, who was in The Four Horsemen.

Stills:

Our hero Wang Yuan Feng played by Eric Wang. Born of noble birth, Yuan Feng is free of greed, fame, and emotional desires. His attention is devoted to solving mysterious cases in his county. While solving one of his first cases, he accidentally helps release a trapped fox spirit (Janice Wu). To repay him, she wishes to become his wife but he doesn’t have the emotional IQ to process her love and thus allows her to follow him around, aiding him in solving cases. After exposing the corrupted magistrate, Yuan Feng is elected to become the new one. With his righteous and honest attitude, the people begin calling him Da Xian Ya Men. Unfortunately, happy days are short-lived and our bubbly fox spirit needs to return to her fox cave. But by now, Yuan Feng has fallen deep in love with her and her impending departure makes him sick in bed. She has no choice but uses power to erase his memory, hoping that would leave his heart open for other marriage candidates. Some time in the future, Yuan Feng discovers a portrait hidden away in his chamber and tears roll down his cheeks…

(I have a hard time taking him as the honest and righteous character. LOL)

Our heroine is a Fox Spirit named Xiao Cui, played by Janice Wu. She’s gonna be so cute. But their story sounds so sad in the end. T_T Good thing is she is the leading candidate for Huang Rong! YESH. I APPROVE!

Andy Chen plays a guard. Best friends with Wang Yuan Feng. His family line has the ability to capture demons but because his parents die unjustly, he lives a quiet profile, pretending to be stupid to avoid public attention. In time of crisis, his sense of justice soars higher than anyone else. He has a bickering relationship with fellow female guard (played by Fang Lu) and shares a sweet friendship with our fox demon.

Edward Zhang Xiao Chen as Li Mao Gong Zi, one the villains. On the surface, he’s a scholar of around 20 years old. But truly, he’s a 500 years old demon. I read cat demon but I don’t know how to translate those words well. Lol. Honestly, I thought this was Hu Ge when I first saw the picture. The flute and that pose ~~~

Jin Meng Yang Zi. Childhood friend with our hero (aka former flame). She hangs around the capital with the mission to avenge for her mother’s death. Has a deal with Li Mao Gong Zi – trading half her soul in exchange for great powers. From then on, she becomes half-human and half-demon, working under the orders of Li Mao against the man she loves.

ugh. what’s with the lacy frills and medieval European-style collars on the female costumes? Looks like another
costume designer taking too many creative liberties blending chinese and western elements and getting chop suey.

i think the male lead’s costumes look strange but hers are very beautiful and cute! these stylists always take liberty, don’t you know that by now? lol.

but seriously, can’t take eric as a good judge. he’s too comical!! look at the colors on his clothes! more than the female lead. XD

These cheesy looking costumes are more appropriate for cosplay than serious drama. It’s a far cry from the high costume design standards as Nirvana in Fire.

I actually don’t mind her costumes, his costumes are more distractingly weird. Lol.

Yay for Wu Qian as the Huang Rong candidate! she’s going to be so adorable! Like a younger Ariel-Huang-Rong. 😀 I just hope she can pull of HR’s meaner, sly side too. HR can be quite wicked when she wants to be 😀

Now that you said it, I can’t imagine anyone else as a good HR candidate.

She’s just so cute, I can’t imagine her with a mean streak, but she’s very mischievous in real life, so that might help. 🙂

Another name thrown in the mix is Yang Zi. All the girls I like. hee!

That was a scary trailer. It looks like there will be a lot of blood and gore in this drama.

Awww..The trailer’s too fast and chaotic and low-quality it’s hard to tell what’s going on, kind of confusing. But it does seem to have a Liao Zhai feel to it. There also seems to be a evil-Wu Qian and a cute-Wu Qian. Interest turn of events. Too used to female lead demons who are all nice and pure. Seems like fox-demon-wu qian won’t be so stereotypically kind.

What do you think?
