Last batch of 2015. Thanks for tuning in to the previous ones. 🙂 I CANNOT BELIEVE 2015 IS A FEW DAYS TO ITS END!!??!

——> ♦ Abandon Me Hold Me Tight has an English name of Stay With Me. They did a concept fan arts for the heck of it with Chen Qiao En as DFBB and Nick Wang as a Vampire. If he sparkles in any frame, I’m gonna flip my lid.

——> ♦ Remember when I posted about the webdrama Go Princess Go? Apparently, it’s generating a lot of buzz for being unconventional and quirky (on top of a group of eye candy, of course). I watched the first episode and there’s a twist in the done to death genre of time-travel. The (fe)male lead is a playboy and before he’s captured by the girls sent by his girlfriend, he’s drowned in the pool and that’s how he time-travels to the past and into the body of the crown princess. LOL. There, he meets hubby Crown Prince and that’s all I’m saying for now. Check out the (serious) music videos below (not the tone of the drama atm). Kinda entertaining. I might write a post about it when time permits.

——> ♦ Real life couple Li Sheng and Li Jia Hang as a bickering couple in modern drama, Mad About You (新婚公寓) about a married couple in their first 100 days of marriage. Problems arise out of every conversation, from work, to neighbors, to friends. Will they find new meaning to the phrase, “Marriage is the graveyard of Love?” The 30-episode drama will hit the small screen on January 11th. Check out the trailer and stills below. I just adore these two so much. How they managed to date and got married without the fuss and pressure of paps is a goal for every secretive couples out there.

——> ♦ Press conference for drama Destiny of Love (formerly known as Dear Long Time No See), adapted from the novel of North Sea Lovers, telling the ups and downs of two generations. The older pair is portrayed by married couple Fann Wong and Christopher Lee, while the younger pair has Kwon Sang Woo and Li Yi Xuan. Oh my, we know who’s gonna eat who in the chemistry department now, don’t we?

——> ♦ Wallace Chung and Ying Er are confirmed for Fei Wo Si Cun’s As Long As You Love Me. Same author as Wallace’s Too Late To Say I Love You. If you like Sealed With A Kiss, you might also like this. The story is a twisty one with the heroine’s mother trying to kill the hero’s father. Her mother is dead while his father becomes paralyzed. She’s his younger step sister and he vents out his vengeance and anger at her… Yep. Not my type.

——> ♦ Jin Dong is confirmed for medical drama tentatively named, Surgical Storm (外科风云), with the same team behind The Disguiser. Filming begins mid of next year.

——> ♦ Zheng Kai and Haden Kuo are cast in a martial arts drama called tentatively Unparalleled Martial Artist Huang Fei Hong. Filming beings in January.

——> ♦ Lee Jong Suk confirmed for a Chinese drama, Jade Lovers, deemed as the sequel to Diamond Lovers. Zheng Shuang is his leading lady.

——> ♦ Dilraba Dilmurat started filming a new rom-com movie, 21 Karat (21克拉), with actors Guo Jing Fei and Wayne Liu Rui Lin.

——> ♦ A new palace drama, Ru Yi’s Royal Love In The Palace, is in the works featuring a slew of palace intrigues and fights among the beautiful ladies behind the doors of Emperor Qian Long. High chances that this will be Li Bing Bing‘s drama comeback to the small screen.

——> ♦ Zhang Yun Long (Pride and Prejudice) will be the male lead for Hero Dog 2 with actress Wang Yang (Hot Girl).

——> ♦ Responding to the rumor of secretly dating Choi Si Won, Liu Wen‘s manager has come out to explain that the Chinese super model is still single. It makes sense since Siwon just went to the military. No reason why one has to linger around for two years if they just met. Good luck to both. If they’re destined, time and distance can’t keep them apart.

——> ♦ Hawick Lau and Jiang Xin are confirmed for a modern lawyer drama, Golden Lawyer – The Heir (金牌律师之继承人). Filming is slated to begin in February. More info to follow.

——> ♦ Janice Wu is the latest addition to Angelababy and Boran Jing‘s Just One Smile is Very Alluring, the Movie Version.

——> ♦ Zhao Li Ying in a new CF for IVVI phone. She looks so pretty and the mystery of why she dressed like that a few weeks ago is solved.

im happy for Wallace Chung, but with Ying Er.. wow this girl again… but with wallace, im 1000000% gonna watch it no matter what, lols, bias much.

not a fan of ZLY, but seriously… but in this cf, she looks sooooo adorable… i mean, she always but.. more human-like, haha.. i always see her looks like a doll, in a good way… uhm… so envious of her skin 😛

just finished watching wallace huo in battle in changsha, late, i know.. but seriously, he always looks good… this man… sigh.

and congratz to Liu Tao, this jie looks ‘forever’ young 😀

  2. 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

Not a fan of Ying Er, but LOVE ZLY as always. Lol. 🙂

Excited for Jiang Xin’s new lawyer movie, but really? Hawick? Again? Sigh.

    • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

Hawick has no business being an actor at all lol. He wouldn’t even be able to be a good second lead. Every time I see him act I just want to sigh and bang my head on the table because the fact that he’s even allowed on screen as a lead actor is ridiculous. Yang Mi gave him so many opportunities, which is good news for him and bad news for those of us who have to put up with his lackluster acting abilities. I never get any other emotion from him other than indifference. If he’s won any awards for his acting, which I’m inclined to think he probably has, then I would mourn for all those actors who were much more deserving of it than him. Sorry for the rant but this guy’s existence in the acting industry just makes 0 sense to me lol.

      • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

I avoid all dramas with him in it not cuz I hate him personally, but because I can’t stand watching “actors” who can’t act, ESPECIALLY those cast in LEAD ROLES … like WTF??! there are so many talented people out there just desperate for a chance but they’ll never get one cuz of people with connections (BUT NO SKILL) hogging all the good roles. He struck the jackpot with Yang Mi who brought him all the fame and publicity and connections to repeated score good roles. Oh well life’s a bitch, there ain’t no justice in this world.

This is the same reason I refuse to watch any more Tang Yan dramas (the last Tang Yan dramas I watched was Legend of Fragrance and Lost Tomb and that was only cuz of the other actors … her performance in both dramas were TERRIBLE) cuz her acting’s been deteriorating since Chinese Paladin 3 and I’m better off watching stuff that I enjoy instead of stuff that pisses me off.

      • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

His existence in the industry actually makes lots of sense because it once again proves the adage: “it’s not what you know but who you know” … sad truth but that’s the way of the world…

  3. 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

Time flies when you’re having fun, they say. 2015 has gone by real quick 🙂

So many faves in 1 post! LOL WTF at that vampire poster – it looks pretty but ain’t got nothin’ to do with the drama story! Oh well. I like Chen Qiao En and I’m ALWAYS here for more Wang Kai. I hope he participates in more dramas/film so that I can always see him grace my screen <3 🙂

Looking forward to a Shanying medical drama, especially since it's from the Disguiser team and headed by Jin Dong. I wonder if Wang Kai would make an appearance (it's be TOTALLY AWESOME if he does), at least a cameo/supporting role if not male #2. (I just wanna see JD and WK act together again, all right?)

Hot damn, Zhang Danfeng and Ma Ke are looking very handsome and adorable in those pics! Always here for more about those 2 (the true highlights of the shit that is HQG LBR)

The 3 Lives family are cute and all sorts of adorable! Great to see Yang Yang getting some good roles now that he's made a name for himself and everything. Liu Yifei is gorgeous as always and I look forward to seeing this 3 Lives family on the big screen. I hate the book and think the over-hyped story sucks balls (but I'll ignore my rage and numb myself to watch the pretty people) … I mean, it's a straight rip of the novel by DFGG but with much shittier prose, dragging/loose story lines, cookie-cutter Sue / Stu characters … Tang7 is the worst low-life plagiarist who steals and then turns around and lays the blame on the victims she stole from like WTF. I've read DFGG's original and it's 100000000000000000000x better than 3 Lives but of course 3 Lives get all the praise (there's no justice in this world)

Good for Liu Tao on her award cuz this lady is ageless and beautiful inside and out. She's a great actress and she's such a lovely person IRL 🙂

    • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

Now if the rumors are true and WK really sings 王妃 in the Hunan New Year’s concert then I’ll love him 1000 years 🙂

    • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

Ah the vampire posters was bugging me cuz they reminded me of something that I couldn’t think of until now!
They look like the art for VAMPIRE KNIGHT (one of the most dog blood f*cked up manga filled with all sorts of surprise incest and psychopaths and shit OMG) … Tong Hua has a love for shoujo mangas (I’ve noticed this over the years of her works) … let’s hope this drama won’t go down that route cuz damn that shit makes me wanna hurl

    • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

Finally. Someone who also likes Chen Qiao En. So much hate for her acting all the time. I’m not blind, and I totally agree that her role variety is so. limited. I didn’t used to like her, but really. Her performance in Swordsman convinced me that she just has so. much. potential. Really. I think she can be a lot more than she is, she just needs to actively choose better roles for herself. Plus while a lot of people find her “cutesy” act annoying, I think despite everything, she’s very good at making the audience like her. She has a natural, or practiced idk, charisma that will keep the viewers watching, even when they’re frustrated by her, by her character. She just seems…a very genuine actress — note sure how that works, but that’s the vibe I get.

      • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

Chen Qiao En is a very beautiful lady and while her acting isn’t so good (both in part due to her role selection and also may be due to ability), she has a very likeable aura about her. Not sure if this makes sense, but she just seems like a nice gal (I could be totally wrong since I don’t know her personally but it’s just the vibe she gives me when I see her photos or onscreen).

I have to watch her in this new drama with Wang Kai before I decide on her acting ability (because I never really watched her dramas in depth – all those lovey dovey shit ain’t my cup of tea, and I refuse to watch Yuma butcher Jin Yong’s wuxia classic so I haven’t watched Swordsman either)…

      • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

Most of the criticism I’ve seen is due to her role selections, which I can agree with. And it’s not just her. Other actresses around her age are still playing 傻白甜 roles. I totally get that an actress can start off playing that type of character for one or two dramas, but don’t let it become a pattern. That’s how you typecast yourself. Learn to say no, ladies!

With Qiao En, I never watched Swordsman but when I heard about her portrayal for DFBB I thought she was going to FINALLY move on from 傻白甜 roles. Then came along Cruel Romance, which I didn’t watch but read the book instead. Ugh, disappointment. (If there’s a list of “Worst Heroines”, Rong JinXiu would be on the top of that list.) That’s why I can’t take her seriously anymore. I can’t trust her to select her own roles or good scripts.

It has nothing with Qiao En’s personality–she seems very well-loved by her peers from what I’ve seen.

        • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

Role selection and avoiding being typecast are so important to actors because both have a huge impact on their craft. There’s only so much you can do if your role is crap, and playing the same roles over and over again will just stall development.

        • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

Exactly. Even if an actress is talented if she doesn’t know how to pick roles and scripts, she’s pretty much limiting her career.

        • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

The really good actors always tries to vary their roles and tries out different things to keep improving, at least that’s what I noticed anyway…

      • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

Yep. Chen Qiao En basically perfected the damsel in distress roles. She’s been limited so far by her choices of roles. A very well-liked person for being easy-going and down to earth.

She was seen playing thumb wars with little Leo Wu (lol) and chatting happily with Nick at Anhui awards. I’ve liked her ever since Prince Turned to Frog. Cruel Romance threw me off for a while but as a person, I adore her.

        • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

Thanks for the wonderful pictures, Kappy! Nick, Joe, and Leo all look happy and adorable 🙂

        • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

omg… looks at her smile… and wang kai plus leo beside her… she’s one lucky girl! this jie makes me envious…

i wonder, what they were looking at? hmm.. some fanmade vid or fanmade pics? 😀

Thanks a bunch chasingpolaris! When it comes to the chinese internet empire, I am completely lost. Lol. Like for example I’ve heard of fanfic for chinese books like Daomu Biji, but I don’t know the Chinese equivalent to like fanfiction . net or anything, and I didn’t even know their most used sort-of-buying-site until I checked out the awesome Chen Ou from Run for Time. Lol. If I was Chinese fluent and had to live in China, I’d probably be so lost. Lol I’ve never even used baidu before.

I love Yang Yang and Liu Yi Fei Christmas card, with their movie son! It looks like a very real family. Earlier I had a little doubt about these two being paired. They definitely look visually pretty together, but I felt Crystal had a more mature vibe (though she’s only a few years older). This “family” picture kind of “corrects” it for me :). And the little actor is damn cute too!

Another favorite Christmas card is of course Zhang Danfeng’s! He looks greatttt!

Wang Kai and Joe Chen don’t look like them at all in the poster LOL.

Isn’t it interesting that Dilraba’s new movie’s title is diamond related? Some might think the girl is brilliant (pun intended).

    • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

Probably because the poster looks more like manga art than anything LOL
But yeah, I wouldn’t even have realized it was supposed to be WK and CQE unless it said so LOL

I’m currently watching Go Princess Go. Very entertaining and yes, quirky, but with an underlying story line that keeps you addicted to the series! I’m at episode17 now, waiting for 18 which is airing tomorrow! It is indeed a nice change in the time travel type story where a man’s trapped in a woman’s body and trying his best to avoid the love interests from the woman’s hubby and best friend while molesting as many palace maids and concubines as possible! It’s plain hilarious but at the same time…makes you wonder how the story will end if it’s supposed to be romance. So, are you in team Crown Prince/Emperor or team Prince Nine??? LOL Come to think of it….it’s kinda twisted and….disturbing despite which team you’re in coz the Crown Princess’ actually a straight man trapped in a woman’s body! hehehe

I can’t wait for Inside or Outside. Can’t wait to see Jang Hyuk in a mainland production! Did I mention how I fell in love with his deadly gaze since Chuno???….not to mention his signature hysterical laughter???
I am watching Wallace’s Love Me If You Dare now and I must say I am impressed with the quality improvement in China’s drama series and the interesting story line. I look forward to more modern productions with excellent stories from the Chinese!

If I miss all of you before 2016, let me wish all of you lovelies here a Happy New Year! And especially to our stellar Kap & co…thank you for all the years of wonderful virtual voyage! Here’s to another wonderful new year! Cheers!

    • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

Happy New Year to you and all the lovely people here at AVV 🙂

    • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

Girl, you’re too fast! Yes! I wonder how the story is gonna end now that I saw the spicy love-making scene. EEEEKKK!! I love Crown Prince. The actor is handsome in historical hairdos. In modern hair, he’s less hot. XD

Happy New Year to you too! ^_^

      • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

The spicy love-making scene in the mv? I think there is more than one but I haven’t seen on in an episode that isn’t perhaps a thought bubble. The crown prince is played to his broody serious icy self to a tee. The ninth prince is ethereal in a hilarious way-like a parody. I have been replaying the ost like a broken record since the finish of the second binge.

        • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

I believe there are more than one too. This drama is not stingy at ALL. Weeeeeeeeeeee ~

    • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

Does anybody know how many episodes total there are? I binged watch all 23 episodes-twice and is still confused about a lot of things but severely addicted nonetheless. I love how taken aback the crown prince is whenever Peng Peng just treats him like a bro and doesn’t have any reaction of jealousy concerning the mistress or other women. I stupid love the drama as soon as I almost busted a gut laughing at the first episode at a certain black and white montage. A serious moment is always interrupted by my cackling whenever i see the sandals and Chanel logo on the physician’s hat. The production definitely knows how to work the low budget.

      • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

Various sources state 35 episodes. It’s very entertaining and I love the hysterical moments when we as “drama fans” expect something romantic to happen. Lol.

        • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

As I have watched the music videos like a thousand time at this point, I assume the romantics won’t happen until the crown prince changes his hair style from tight top not into pony tail as if letting the restraints on their relationship free. I am so deeply entrenched in this drama, it’s not even funny. I hope it’s multi-season. If not, I assume it will end from open ended to tragic travesty in that the real soul goes back to present day leaving the real crown princess with amnesia and confused why her relationship with the crown prince just took a 180 turn for the hot and heavy. Moral of the story for the playboy dude is: treat women better because they go through hard crap?

      • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

Wow, I am now very much intrigued to check this drama. It sounds hilarious and very entertaining!

  6. 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

Hey Kap, how did you watch the first ep of Go Princess Go? Can’t really find anything on it…not even a baike baidu page for the webdrama. Looks actually really strange….strangely fascinating, and addicting. It’s surprisingly incredibly provocative. And, depending on how you philosophically view the gender classifications of transgenders and there sexuality labels…this could almost be a surprisingly unconventional but maybe open take of a homosexual main, periodic couple…? Maybe? Depending on how the story spins out, of course. Technicalities aside, the main guy (the crown prince, just to be clear) is actually VERY hot. Well pretty hot, for the most part. His styling, while a little strange (he looks like he’s carrying around a wooden-frame-wandering-herbal-doctor-pack half the time) works really well and gives him a lot of presence and a dominant aura in the mv’s and trailer. What’s his name again?

    • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

Ya know what would be awesome to see (but will probably never happen cuz of narrow-mindedness)? Representation of diversity like homosexual or transgender characters and/or pairings in dramas, etc. There are so many non-straight couples out there in society who deserve representation in mainstream media (books, movies, dramas, etc.) just as much and it’s just boring seeing the same cookie-cutter hetero pairings all the time. I’m probably in the minority though…

      • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

SARFT would never let anything like that air on mainstream TV. Homosexuality is still a hush-hush subject in China even if history shows otherwise.

This is why despite the plethora of Han Dynasty dramas and movies China makes, there has not been one about Dong Xian and Emperor Ai. Theirs would be a great love story to tell onscreen. But nope, not gonna happen in China.

        • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

Not exactly, Polaris ;-). I remember reading about Yu Zheng producing a drama about Dong Xian and Emperor Ai, but twisted it so that Emperor Ai actually loved his empress and was using Dong Xian as a cover for something. LOLOL. Not sure if the drama ever aired.

        • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

          Thanks lenje 🙂

I don’t think it ever aired or even filmed because I couldn’t find anything on it. It probably wouldn’t make sense for SARFT to let this pass since it’s twisted from history even if that relationship is forbidden lol.

        • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

Thanks polaris & lenje for the info! 🙂

It’s a real shame that homosexuality is still taboo in Chinese society. There have been many homosexual relationships in history, not only in Asian cultures (China, Japan, etc.) but also across Western cultures (Alexander the Great comes to mind). It would be nice to see some representation there but unfortunately society is still too conservative and discriminatory… I’d totally love to see a drama about the Dong Xian / Emperor Ai relationship (I mean c’mon “duanxiu” is named after these guys) … talk about EPIC … *sigh*

        • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

The Dong Xian / Emperor Ai story ended tragically but at least it would be interesting television (and an important part of the Han history anyway)

        • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

Polaris and Shimo, I’m wary that if I put any link here it will end up being chopped chopped LOL. But it was written in Cfensi blog a while ago, so you can use the keywords when googling. Chen Xiao and Yuan Shan Shan were cast as Emperor Ai and Empress Fu (?), but they were also the modern day reincarnate (or something) of those two people. So there’s the butchering of real history and the time travel element. But you’re probably right that despite the plan, the project probably never finished.

Julianne, it’s not just Christianity, but all Abrahamic/Semitic religions (Christianity, Islam, Judaism are against homosexuality. I’m not knowledgeable enough to tell about Hinduism and Buddhism, but I know in ancient kingdoms (most were Hindu and Buddhist) in my country, it was quite acceptable.

        • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

With Buddhism there’s nothing that opposes homosexuality, especially in the older traditions. However, different people interpret things differently, and there have been advocates who oppose homosexuality in the name of Buddhism. To my understanding, Buddhism follows more of a “free will” and “live and let live” philosophy, and some branches of Buddhism (such as those with more progressive thinking) actually support marriage equality, and that only unhealthy relationships (regardless of hetero or homo) should be avoided. Most practicing Buddhists I know tell me that people of all sexual orientations are welcome to practice Buddhism because what matters more is that you become a good person and show compassion for others…

Also if they’re gonna butcher history and warp the truth and add the crazy time traveling elements then I rather not watch the drama at all. It REALLY effing pisses me off when dramas butcher history which is why I can’t stand Tong Hua period stories like Da Mo Yao and Bubu Jingxin – BBJX had the advantage of an awesome cast and nice costumes, etc. so it was OK in my eyes. DMY’s insult to Han history is unforgivable and Chinese history teachers and historians petitioned the government to stop false dramas from brainwashing students.

        • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

inaccurate period dramas don’t really bother me THAT much, but on some level I totally agree. People like me, who don’t have a formal, in-depth, Chinese history knowledge, really soak up a lot of history from period dramas. Actually, not just with Chinese history. I’m someone who remembers history SO MUCH BETTER from novels or dramas, entertainment generally. For something like Chinese history, AMAZING, fascinating, so so culturally rich and fantasy-like, the US doesn’t go into it much at all in standard education, and most people (myself included) don’t plan on majoring/studying it in college, so things like Chinese period dramas REALLY influence us (me) a lot. If one day I go blurting off on some piece of ancient Chinese history that I think I know and people are just like what-BS-are-you-spouting, I’ll know who to blame.

          @lenje:
I found it! It’s “Love Up in the Air”. They did film it but apparently the Dong Xian/Emperor Ai is a story within a story. Not that it makes a difference. The history is still twisted LOL.

          @shimo:
I did not like how they twisted Huo Qubing (as much as I enjoyed reading his character) but BBJX was acceptable for me as well. I would have flipped tables if Ruo Xi’s existence was left in history books, but luckily Tong Hua was smart enough to not let that happen. (Except that painting though…) That being said it didn’t really change history because Yinzhen still became emperor and the other princes met the same fate as they would have if Ruo Xi had never appeared.

@Julianne: You’re definitely not alone. I’ve had many conversations with friends who watched TVB series growing up and they were all fooled by the historical inaccuracies in them. You can imagine their faces when I had to tell them the truth about each one. It was like telling them their entire childhood was a lie. Nowadays it seems to be better because viewers and netizens are quick to point out inaccuracies and share them on social media sites, so production companies are really paying more attention to the details by hiring consultants. As much as I love elaborate sets and costumes, I feel that more money should be spent on these details than dumping millions on visuals.

        • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

You girls are not alone – I also pick up a lot of history from watching film and television, which is why scriptwriters who twist history and warp facts piss me off so much. The thing with Da Mo Yao pisses me off a lot cuz Huo Qubing is a national (and historical) hero who is known for his patriotism in defending the people against invaders, and to turn around and make him a deserter (in Tong Hua’s novel) and thereby brainwashing audiences into believing this lie is a Goddamn insult to Chinese history and the Han people.

It’s like, if they tried to present Yue Fei as anything other than the brave patriotic hero that he was, then we’d have a total riot on our hands. Fortunately they kept true to his patriotic spirit in dramas about him so it was all good in that respect 🙂

I totally agree. So so interesting. I’ve really want to see a drama like that…Sigh. Maybe like…in a decade. I don’t get why homosexuality is such a big deal. I really don’t. I mean, historically homosexuality has ALWAYS been present. I feel like it’s only in the past few hundred years that’s it’s suddenly become this gigantic persecutable taboo thing. I mean, I guess maybe the influence of Christianity? But people can’t really use religion as an excuse for everything right. There’s like maybe two lines out of an entire book condemning homosexuality. I just feel so…sad and confused because I just feel like society is regressing. Like I said in my rant about WK ent treatment, people back in the BC ages have, while not always open, mostly accepted homosexuality as a thing. We can’t we? The greeks, the Japanese…so many others. Even wikipedia agrees, that it was the introduction of arabic religion and the first version of “God” that introduced “sodomy”. That just makes me so. sick. It makes you wonder if religion is worth everyone’s praise and reverence and faith. People like Socrates and Plato have all been associated either by work or by person with homosexuality! I just feel so frustrated when people have an issue with such a simple thing.

Ok. I’ll stop. If I keep at it any longer, I’m going to work into a full-blown rant.

        • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

LOL feel free to rant, my friend, cuz I agree with you wholeheartedly! 🙂

        • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

I don’t know about the Greeks but the Japanese are only slightly better than China when it comes to this. Are they more open about it in the media than China is? Yes, but it’s still not as commonly accepted as it is in the west. I do have to say that China has gotten better with dealing homosexuality–at least now it’s not considered a mental illness by law over there. It was at one point. So there’s at least some progression. Can’t ask for too much at this point especially in China.

This may be a simple thing in our eyes but we have to put ourselves in the shoes of people who grew up being taught that homosexuality is a sin. I mean, even if society now tells you that it’s not a sin, how do you unlearn years of teachings like that? It’s possible, but give it time. Like you said, maybe we’ll get to see a drama like that in a decade. Don’t lose hope, Juli. Just be patient. 🙂

        • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

Lol yep. Uplifting words. I think worldwide there’s been progress. 🙂

Just to clarify, I meant ancient Greece and ancient Japan. Japan is SO conservative now, but in ancient Japan it was sort of samurai culture to have a sexual relationship with your apprentice-samurai-in-training. It was present in monasteries, in their military, even in, quoting wiki, 11th century literature. I don’t know how excepted or taboo it was, but it was at least generally acknowledged and not condemned to the extent of today. Historically in China, homosexuality wasn’t opposed until the 19th-20th century, aka the introduction of western culture. Says a lot. That the development of Christian practices, beliefs, and lifestyle can single handedly condemn an entire aspect of sexuality? It’s just. I don’t have anything against religion, but why does religion, one single religion, have to dictate the world? Even in Europe, homosexuality wasn’t labeled as sodomy and a sin until the introduction of christianity. The Celts were fine, the ancient greeks were fine, even ancient romans were (mostly) fine. Heck people during the Renaissance practically loved homosexuality (small exaggeration), until a, guess who, an influential friar (aka Christian monk) put a stop to homosexuality in both practice and in art.

It bothers me that it took the US gov so long to declare legality of homosexual marriage. For a country that states that religion and the state are separate, they sure allowed religion to dictate a whole lot. Of course, this is also coming from a country that prints “in God we trust” on the coins… I get that such a large majority of people in the world are Christian, and societal customs are dictated by the majority, but I just get so frustrated. It’s not fair. I think Christianity can be great with all it’s other moral preaches and ideals, but it’s hard not to blame the religion when so many people use it as an excuse. Maybe not even just an excuse; literally, the influence and introduction of Christianity practically single-handedly turns the world against gays. How is that even right? That is like the exact opposite of the universal love the Bible likes to preach.

          I hope I didn’t offend anyone. T.T

“Lu Tongyin, author of Misogyny, Cultural Nihilism & Oppositional Politics: Contemporary Chinese Experimental Fiction, said “a clear-cut dichotomy between heterosexuality and homosexuality did not exist in traditional China.””

I wish that was true for present-day countries.

        • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

@ Juli & polaris: no worries, your comments didn’t offend anyone (well at least not me) cuz they’re on point. I agree with you! It’s unfortunate that such narrow-minded views have been instilled in society for so long … hopefully with time, society will become more open-minded and progressive….

Pederasty has existed historically across different cultures but again, it’s a messy and taboo subject these days (especially if linked to pedophilia/exploitation)…

        • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

@ Juli: thanks for recommending that book by Lu Tongyin … sound interesting! 🙂

        • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

          @Juli and shimo:

Yeah, the US is a big hypocrite and it pissed me off when people actually supported that clerk who got arrested for not issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Then it pissed me off further when she was crying victim all over the place. The only true victims are the same-sex couples that were denied marriage licenses because this woman didn’t do her job like she was hired to. Did she hope that she’ll never have to issue one? She knows she’ll have to eventually since it’s legalized. Plus, if she was going to let her religion dictate her professional life then maybe she should have chosen a religious career. Ugh.

Even Pope Francis doesn’t have a problem. I am by no means a Christian (Buddhist here) but I really liked how he said, “If someone is gay and searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?” Because that’s really how it should be in my opinion.

        • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

@ polaris: Totally agree with you! Pope Francis has it right! That US clerk is a bitch (sorry not sorry) and I can’t at the people who actually support her. FFS it’s her damn job to issue those licenses and if she can’t be professional about it then she’s in the wrong profession.

        • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

Also I think the open-mindedness about marriage equality depends on the individual as well. One of my long time friends is Catholic and her family are devout Catholics, but she and her family support marriage equality and my friend tells me she thinks the whole “homosexuals are evil” thing that some Catholics spout is complete bullshit (her words, not mine) cuz she wouldn’t want to be part of a religion that marginalizes a good section of ordinary people just because of something like sexual orientation.

Hey Juli, I watched it on youtube first but it’s been deleted. Here’s the dailymotion link: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3iuqkx

The crown prince is Sheng Yi Lun (1992, yes, he’s hot!). It’s very provocative, showing breasts up close and everything. It makes Empress of China looks PG 13! LOL.

Oh hey, look at me. I said I was going to take a break but here I am anyway. Hehehe. =P

Totally not getting the vampire concept for Nick and Qiao En’s drama unless they are referring to one of the characters’ abilities to use people to the max. Lol.

Soooooooo tempted to check out Go Princess Go. Still have to finish up another web drama Naughty Princess haha.

I’m already loving the Yang Yang-Crystal pairing so much. And their child! So cute! If only this was a drama. *sigh*

In other news, Shanying dramas pretty much won everything in the Flying Apsara awards this year:

Best Director: Kong Sheng (All Quiet in Peking, Nirvana in Fire, Romance of Our Parents)
Best Scriptwriter: Liu Heping (All Quiet in Peking)
Best Actor Chen Baoguo (All Quiet in Peking)
Best Actress: Mei Ting (Romance of Our Parents)
Best Drama: Nirvana in Fire, All Quiet in Peking, Romance of Our Parents (all 3 dramas got awards)

    • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

All Quiet in Peking is definitely on my to-watch list. But I shall finish the Three Kingdoms first *sigh*.

      • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

I will ALWAYS stan for 3 Kingdoms LOL, having loved the original story ever since I was a kid (bedtime stories from my parents LOL … about wars and conquerors and everything hahahaha). I’ve watched some different adaptations over the years but the 2010 drama version is my favorite one.

My dad who NEVER watches Cdramas stayed up all night to watch this series. That’s how awesome it was 🙂

      • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

AQIP is a great drama so I’m gonna watch that in depth once I get some time (when I watched it the first time there were heaps of stuff that I didn’t understand cuz my Chinese history knowledge sucks)

  9. 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

I’m stoked to hear that Jin Dong will collaborate with the Disguise team!!!! With his acting the great directors and producers, I bet this is going to be another addition to fantastic Chinese drama once more! I am going through a withdrawal after NIF and Disguiser. Though they won’t start filming till later, i’m happy to wait knowing that something amazing will be awaiting afterwards. Andything about Hu Ge joining in on this show or Wang Kai? Love!!!

  10. 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

hehe. Fans are at it again. Fanmade MV for Nick and Joe! Hire these people already!

  11. 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

Sigh it’s so…restless hearing about all these awesome dramas in the making. All through out latter-half-end of 2015 there’s been so many promotional stuff and news about cool upcoming dramas, but there’s very little interesting things ACTUALLY airing right now (except LoQ, which I’m standing firm about not watching). So right now, lol, is a rare moment of my year so far where I’m literally at a drama stand still.

    • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

You and me both! I’m having a drama famine ATM since I’ve already rewatched Nirvana and Disguiser! I may rewatch All Quiet in Peking since there were heaps of stuff I didn’t understand the first time around (my Chinese history knowledge kinda sucks LOL)

Apparently there’s some new period dramas airing early next year, like the ones with Yan Kuan. I’ll watch them cuz I like those type of dramas and Yan Kuan is cool 🙂

Also there’s that fox idol drama thingy from Tangren … I dunno if I should watch it or not but maybe I will just for Wang Kai’s brief appearance (except they’re dubbing his voice LIKE WTF WHY??! OF ALL PEOPLE!!!)

    • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

Count me in on this! I’m actually still not done with The Disguiser but because I already know what happens, I’ll just take my time. Lol. I am rewatching Nirvana though. Second time around and it gets even better. 🙂

All Quiet in Peking has an impressive cast. I’ll have to check it out someday.

Shimo, I am going to check out that fox drama when it airs. Wang Kai and Gina’s story is my number one favorite from Dark Tales so I’m looking forward to seeing how they interpret it. If all else fails at least there’s Kai Kai!

      • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

LOL you know me – I’m always here for my man Kaikai 🙂

The Liaozhai stories are actually really cool (according to my mom). I don’t know much about them (apart from Painted Skin LOL) but I’ll watch it for Kaikai anyway. Except I can’t get over the fact they’re dubbing him and his look in the drama is like a transfer of Yuan Hong’s Yang Kang look from Legend of the Condor Heroes (2008)…

I haven’t seen Gina act before but at least she’s a very pretty lady with a nice vibe 🙂

I had a quick peak at the story Kaikai and Gina are enacting apparently it ends well after many obstacles, so at least it’s worth checking out 🙂

I dunno about how the drama will be presenting the stories though. Apparently there are 6 stories with different characters and I hope they present the stories one by one – not like Huaxuyin where the book tells the stories separately but the drama mixed all the stories up so that one moment it’d be the Song Ning story and the next moment it’d be the other story … it was SO DAMN ANNOYING. I hope that this Fox drama shows the stories one by one so that I won’t get confused and mixed up between parallel stories (I mean, 1 or 2 is acceptable but not 6 stories at the same time).

      • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

LOL I’m on my third watching of Nirvana (cuz my mom loves this series and wanted to rewatch it LOL) and it’s fun picking up the little details that we missed first time around 🙂

Disguiser is fun to watch even if you know what happens … cuz I knew the ending and everything before watching the series and still found it really entertaining. Actually the overall acting in Disguiser (by the older cast and Liu Mintao, Jin Dong, Wang Kai, ESPECIALLY the actor whose character had the limp, bad guys, etc.) is even better than in Nirvana, but Nirvana gets extra points cuz of all the historical/period grandeur and epicness 🙂 Hu Ge was MUCH better in Nirvana than in Disguiser, though, cuz he was so much more natural as Mei Changsu while he was obviously “acting” in Disguiser. Also the main girl in Disguiser can’t act for shit (the girl that ended up as Hu Ge’s character’s wife).

  12. 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

Can anyone update me on the best villains in Nirvana (or someone from this year’s list of dramas)? I’m compiling something (secret*secret) and is unsure of the villains. Lol. Your top dogs!

    • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

      Best Villains:

      Nirvana:

Prince Yu (Victor Huang) – he wrote a 50 page thesis (character analysis) petitioning the scriptwriters/directors to show Prince Yu’s intelligence to make the villainy and story more convincing, ACED the character onscreen, and even got an award for it!

Xia Jiang: dude takes over after Xie Yu’s downfall and keeps making life hard for our heroes

Xie Yu (Liu Yijun): this EVIL villain stops at nothing to achieve his goals but is damn smart at the same time. He only lost to Mei Changsu cuz MCS is the main character and all…

Xia Jiang and Xie Yu were the main conspirators who hatched and carried out the evil (but brilliant) plot that framed and killed Prince Qi (the one who would’ve been Crown Prince) and his whole family and the 70 000 loyal men of Qiyan Army… Of course our hero MCS lived through the hell to come back to exact vengeance ala Count of Monte Cristo style…

Speaking of which, the Emperor is actually the big villain boss of the story cuz it is HIS judgment that condemned Prince Qi and the Qiyan Army, and it’s HIS edict / official pardon all our heroes are trying to get. The Emperor is RUTHLESS, heartless, cunning, very smart, and he is the biggest obstacle in the whole series.

      Disguiser:

Liang Zhongchun: he’s supposed to be a villain but he’s got such redeeming qualities that he’s not hateful at all! In fact this guy is the BEST Goddamn character in the whole show! Actor Yue Yang showcases the best performance of the series in this bad-looking (the dude actually doesn’t look that bad in real life but just twists his face into this scoundrel look to fit the character, making himself look ugly be more in character), limping scoundrel but is SO LIVELY in his performance that he’s the most entertaining thing to watch! Plus he’s so crafty and wily it’s just so fun watching him 🙂

Wang Manchun: the femme fatale of the series and all around EVIL psycho bitch of all time (but Wang Ou does an excellent job with her character)

    • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

My personal favorite villain in Nirvana is Xie Yu, and Liu Yijun is IMO beyond excellent. Victor might get the award, but Liu Yijun made Xie Yu not just your typical evil villain, but a human being. I couldn’t even help to feel sympathy for him in the end.

And because I really like Legend of Qin (LOL, sorry Juli and Shimo :D), I must include the Quicksand gang (Wei Zhuang, Chilian and the White Phoenix) as my other favorite villains, although I now doubt that they were intended to be the bad guys. It looks like actually the Emperor and the Eunuch are the actual villains? I suppose they are in the same category with DFYQ and Sha Jiejie — the villains with heart, LOL.

      • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

LOL no need to be sorry! We’re all free to like/not like different things! 🙂

See I would’ve nominated Dongfang Yuqing and Sha Jiejie cuz they were the only saving grace and the true highlights of the disappointing epic fail of a trainwreck that was Hua Qiangu, but except Dongfang and Sha Jiejie are written more like antiheroes in the novel instead of villains, so…

      • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

Liu Yijun is an EPIC awesome actor and while I like his Xie Yu, his Wang Tianfeng in Disguiser is even better! Like WOW! But Wang Tianfeng is actually an antihero so I can’t nominate this character, but IMO Liu Yijun is even more impressive there than in Nirvana (Xie Yu pretty disappears after ep 23)

They are perfect and so loving~ lt’s really nice to have a couple could wed without problems from media. Well anyway, the drama seems funny and cute. Can’t wait for it!! l hope someone will sub it~

Zhao Liying is always look adorable to me. She is pretty like a doll. And I agree with you guys for hawick and Tang yan they don’t have a skill in act, but strangely they always get a good drama. And ruin that drama. For Liu tao I wish she get more drama she is really a good actress, i like watch her on Langya and Mi month.

Kap A, how reliable is your source on the Wallace Chung news???? I haven’t seen any source that is concrete yet (even on weibo).

Like you, the story is not worth being made and the actress is not my fav.

    • 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

I would say it’s pretty high since it’s the same group that confirmed Wallace’s participation in My Sunshine when his fans were adamant about him not taking part. Lol. And Weibo just released “blank” pictures of the three leads. Qiao Zhen Yu as supporting male lead.

  16. 89 thoughts on “Bulletin Board: Cdramaland/ENT News (25)

So many dramas and movies to look forward to, 2016 will be a good year~ Can’t wait for 十里桃花 to premiere!!! I need to see YangYang on screen soon cries!!! I miss this boy so much, especially when he is acting as the leads for 2 of my favourite novels!!!

Many people on weibo were discussing about Go Princess Go, but I couldn’t stand the novel halfway through because of how the male lead treated the ‘female’ lead. U could still remember this novel even after almost 3 years because of a particular scene that made me hate the male lead so much because of how he treated the ‘female’ lead; it was at this garden(?) and I think he found out that she was a male inside(?)… anyways the novel was a no no for me.

Im most looking forward to the palace drama, Ruyi, from the moment I saw Li Bing Bing’s name! Finally a palace drama and there is also a good actress, 宫斗 novels and shows are always a plus for me!

Interesting tidbit you have there Peach! I’m hoping for a good change then. It’s still a mystery how the drama will end.

What do you think?
