You know when I see beautiful things I like to share. My friend sent me a link to this Vietnamese film and I’ve been in awe since last night. I See Yellow Flowers On The Green Grass, is directed by Victor Vu (Battle of the Brides, Blood Letter), and based on a best-selling novel by Nguyen Nhat Anh. Truly beautiful to look at with some promising young talents as leads. The story follows a pair of brothers who share everything together, until a sweet girl comes along and forces the story to reach a violent climax. WHY?! It’s so pretty to look at and I’d argue that these kids are a tad too young to be entangled in the dangerous feeling such as love. Sigh~
Stills:
The leads from left to right: Trong Khang (11), Thinh Vinh (15) and Thanh My (10).
The brothers. Big Bro is described as petty and selfish in the movie.
Our female lead is so adorable.
English-Subbed Trailer and Music Video:
Yellow Flowers On The Green Grass hits theaters tomorrow 10.2.15.

Kappy, thank you so much for sharing this with us, I got teary watching the trailer. Beautiful indeed. South East Asian countries are indeed blessed with picturesque landscapes and I’m glad the director was able to capture it. It also touches me personally as I have a (and only) sister, whom I’m very close with. It’s refreshing to have a story about siblings love 🙂

Beautiful film. A film that I don’t need to read the english subtitles to understand lol. The big brother looks just like my oldest brother when he was younger. I have to show him this trailer. And I agree the kids are too young to be thinking of love and jealousy.

Looks so good! A film with posters and trailers where I don’t need translation! I can enjoy it at its rawest form without some things getting lost between the gaps of English subs. Can’t wait for this one. And totally agree with whoever said that the Big Brother is growing up to be a looker!
I might go pick up the book while waiting for this one to come out.

Greeting from Vietnam
Thank you all so much for your kind and lovely words regarding this movie.
Actually, it was cut many parts from the original novel of Nguyen Nhat Anh, but it totally can convey the messages of every childhood in the countryside. It was filmed in Phu Yen province and part of HCM city.
If you passed the childhood in the countryside, i am sure that you can’t stop laughing or crying down silently as it depicts really practical life in poor families and village. Of couse, life is changing much nowadays but still little hard, specially in storm season. Like your kids born and lived in vibrant cities, they can never absorb the meanings and lack of these joys.
come to some public cinema and have fun..
thank you.

Thanks for letting us know about the location shoots Trung! My mom was wondering where they shot the beautiful landscape. And yes, city kids don’t get the luxury of the breath-taking views of these mountains and seas. Back to the basics, kids!

Hi,
Im so glad this film is getting publicized a bit more outside of Vietnam, coz its truly beautiful.
When you look at it at first, the kids might look too young, but when you watch it, it’s gonna make sense. SPOILERS
The only one jealous is the older brother, who’s a teen. so teen love isn’t that uncommon. The younger brother is just pure innocence and only dreams about princesses and castles, so he is perfect for the role. the girl, i think, likes the older brother a bit, but i think she’s fine coz she’s between that fine line of prepubescent and teen.
