I got home and I saw the outcry on weibo at Yumama’s teasing. He posted a picture of Jin Dong (Nirvana In Fire) and Yang Rong (The Lady and the Liar) side-by-side to test the waters. With his recent invitation to produce Ding Mo‘s third thriller, Memory Lost, fans surmise that he wants to pair the two actors together as leads in the drama adaptation. Responses from fans are mostly begging Jin Dong not to go down this road. LOL. Let’s see who shall win the battle in the end. Is it the fans? Or….the man?

Memory Lost follows our male lead as he suffers from amnesia and struggles to find his lost fiancée – a woman confirmed by everyone around him that she does not exist. He’s described as taciturn, as cold as ice, and as calm as a lake at night. His search leads him to a small town where he meets a girl full of personality pursuing a degree in criminal psychology. Similar to him, she’s equally mysterious with a blank background for the last five years. After meeting him, she’s constantly entangled in complicated murder cases, and facing near-death situations. As they confront the lurking dangers, they gradually uncover the secrets to their lost memories as well.

i would think that any real actor would avoid yumama as much as possible but seeing how he managed to nab big names like fann wong and christopher lee, no one can stop him from getting anyone!!
five years of lost memories. im kinda intrigued. if presented right, this could be a really good mystery.

I’m loving Jin Dong at the moment because of his awesome performance in The Disguiser, but tbh, I’ve hated every single one of Yu Zheng’s productions. I’ve tried watching most of them, but I’m pretty sure I hated all of them. Also, tbh, even though I loved The Disguiser, I generally don’t like mysteries and suspenses. The plot for Memory Lost seems kind of pointless…and boring…and there’s so much room for Yumama to direct the drama into one big hot mess…again.

*embarrassed smile* I misunderstood. I thought you meant drama/movie adaptations of Ding Mo’s thrillers, but you were just talking about the books themselves. Thanks for answering! And btw, do you know if there’s any adaptation for “When a Snail loves” in the works?
Also, if “Memory Lost” is going to be a Yumama production, I suppose it’s too much to hope for *any* faithfulness to the source material?

When A Snail Loves is the first thriller. When He Comes Close Your Eyes is the second one and the more popular one.
None of the books are related to each other except for the genre, though WASL’s main guy has a brief cameo in Memory Lost.

No wonder the plot seemed kind of familiar. Same author. I’ve read “Love Me If You Dare (he comes close your eyes)”, the pace is kind of slow and the characters are a tat one dimensional. But the cases themselves are very interesting. I’ll be watching LMIYD for Wallace Huo and the wonderful Nick Wang who I love after The Disguiser.
I’m imagining “Memory Lost (when a snail loves)” will be even slower? But I will reserve judgment on Yumama production. After all, “Scheme of Beauty” was awesome. If Yumama can get Jin Dong on board, I will watch it. Jin Dong will be amazing as the amnesia man. Do you also find Yang Rong and Wang Ou (who played the evil Wang Man Chun) looking very much alike?

Memory Lost and When A Snail Loves are two different books. The pacing is slow in both.
Yes, now that you’ve mentioned it, Yang Rong and Wang Ou do look alike. I think they could both play the gutsy and intelligent main girl.

I like Jin Dong and Yang Rong, but could they find someone else other than Yumama to work on this?
Memory Lost is a an intriguing book, though not as great at the other two books Ding Mo has written in the same genre.
The synopsis is almost the same as what you have there, Kappy. Just that the main girl is already a detective at the time when they “meet” again in the book. She was a criminal psychology major at one point in her life. That’s all I will reveal. =P

She does. In fact, she tried to one-up him a couple of times in the beginning. She’s also very feisty and doesn’t back off when he takes criminal profiling lightly. She likes to show him who’s boss, that’s all. 😀

Yu Zheng is finally doing something with Yang Rong!!! FINALLY! Surprisingly I really like his choice~ Jin Dong was just amazing in The Disguiser, and he seems to fit the image of Han Chen!
