Aim High: Episode 2 & 3 “Run or Confront?”

 photo Aim2-15.jpg

You guys should have seen my face when Yi Fen complains about not hearing from the jobs she applied to just a few days ago. Gurl, this missy’s been waiting for months! And unlike you, this missy does not know a handsome manager to get her a job! Oy, the pains of reality. Anyway, the plot is moving at a snail’s pace, and if it weren’t for the likable cast, I might not have continued this far.

Episode 2 Summary:

After the presentation, Yi Fen takes her drunk friends to a hotel and in the morning, they all hum to a familiar tune, and the girls embrace, apologizing for the past mistakes and breaking down the fall pretenses that they don’t want to be friends. Yi Fen gets fired from her driving school, but luckily, she is invited to live with Auntie A-Xi. Not sure whose aunt she is. Ming Xian’s?

We also get some cute flashbacks between Mao Mao and Dao Yuan. So they did date during college.

Yi Fen meets Qi Feng while she’s working as a delivery girl. Seeing that her passion isn’t utilized in the right place, he recommends her to Dao Yuan and she’s hired on the spot into the Customer Service department, working under Dao Yuan, despite not having any prior experience in the area. You see? It’s all about knowing the right people!

Trouble brews immediately at work for Dao Yuan and Qi Feng when their gaming app receives complaints about their credits/scores not being updated accurately. Everyone is busy answering phone calls and Yi Fen finds herself useless until Dao Yuan tasks her with filing through the list of complaints. Trying his hardest to find a problem or leak in his software, Qi Feng is exasperated, more so when the senior manager towers over him to scream about the reporters tailing him all day. If this problem persists, someone would have to take responsibility for the company’s monetary loss.

Then we see Yi Fen innocently and diligently at her desk, using a freakin’ ruler to underline and highlight the common usernames in the past few years who have filed a complaint. I’m not sure what the writer is trying to achieve here. It doesn’t make sense that she could really sit there and literally mark up thousands of usernames using her method. I would rather she be realistic and time-efficient in this kind of scenario.

Turns out it’s a defamation from a group of players, who have caused troubles for their games in the past as well.

I’m a little worried when it comes to the romance. The writer consistently creates these predictable and weak moments so that our two kids would have some kind of skinship. In episode 1, it was the cliche fall-and-kiss. Here, she’s so tired from the day’s work of intense highlighting (still rolling my eyes) that she’s sleeping against a door. You know what happens next right? He comes a long and watches her quizzically. Of course, she then slides right into his arms.

With only 7 days left in her probational period as a sales agent, Mao Mao reaches out to the perverted rich CEO once again. He drives them to a secluded area and continuously touches and smells her hair, cooing that it smells nice and that he could be her regular “customer”. EWWWW. She tries to give in but in the last second, gives up this life of immorality and jumps out of the car.

That night, when Mao Mao dines with her girlfriends, Hao Mei drops an unwanted advice about sales agents needing to provide extra service in order to win over their clients. Ohhh. She didn’t mean it that way, of course. Mao Mao excuses herself and cries her heart out near a beach. And what do you know, Dao Yuan is reminiscing about their memories nearby. When he sees a figure crying, he approaches her slowly, his heart pumping at rapid speed.

The camera pans in as a hand offers Mao Mao a handkerchief…

Episode 3 Summary:

I really like the twist here. As Dao Yuan closes in, a kid on a bike crashes into him and he busies himself with taking care of the little boy. And the person offering the handkerchief is good friend, Ming Xian. Mao Mao denies that she’s crying and the two girls relocate to a beautiful rooftop to talk. Mao Mao confesses that she’s no where close to her target sales and might be fired in a week. She doesn’t want help from the girls because she’s embarrassed about asking them when they have no real jobs to buy insurance plans from her company.

Qi Feng comes up with another idea for a potential app to improve sales by involving video game players and car dealers. Unfortunately, on the day of testing out Hyundai’s new car, Qi Feng upsets the manager by refusing to drive their car.

 photo Aim3-13.jpg photo Aim3-14.jpg

Yi Fen notices that something is wrong with Qi Feng and suggests that he gives her a lift on his bicycle to the train station that night. Since he’s a nice person and good boss, he agrees. The ride is awkward and he gives up mid-way just to be lured right back in by Yi Fen’s cute pleading face. Slowly letting go of the tension, Qi Feng smiles, which is when Yi Fen casually throws out a veiled comment, “See? As long as we trust each other, we can conquer fear and take control of the bike. It’ll also work for other things.”

His sharp mind picks up the meaning immediately and we see quick flashbacks of a younger Qi Feng driving someone in the rain. The smile is now gone from his face.

With only four days left, Mao Mao goes to Qi Feng’s office, hoping to score a deal with the rich manager. However, she’s turned down quickly and he also recognizes her as one of Yi Fen’s drunk friends. When Yi Fen has an argument with Qi Feng about giving up the Hyundai’s project, Mao Mao encourages Yi Fen about never giving up. “When there’s a problem, there’s a solution. Don’t give up.”

Such irony. It’s so easy to comfort another person when you have the same issue and can’t see the wisdom of your own saying, huh?

Yi Fen waits in the car for Qi Feng’s appearance. He’s at home working but then the heavy raining diverts his attention, and he remembers Yi Fen’s plan to help him conquer his fear of driving. Reluctantly, he heads outside and finds her in the zoo’s parking lot, as promised. He gets inside the car and before he can get out, she steps on the gas and circles around the parking lot. He’s screaming in the passenger seat like a little boy.

Afterwards, he nods meekly to her overwhelming happiness that he should give driving a chance.

After being rejected by Qi Feng, Mao Mao enters the elevator dejectedly and it’s just her luck that Dao Yuan join her a few seconds later, carrying 4 cases of paperwork. Then the lights go out and they’re stuck there. Lol. Dao Yuan attempts to calm down his companion by telling her to talk about her problems and release her stress. It’s not like they can see each other in the dark anyway. So she tells him about her problems and he listens attentively.

Man, I would love to be stuck in an elevator with Dao Yuan! Free stress-release therapy session! That smooth voice. 😛

She thanks him and leaves the elevator just as her phone rings a familiar tune. He drops the loads he’s carrying after calling out her name. She turns around and they’re both struck in a state of shock.

Thanks to the elevator doors for shutting at the right time. Lol.

She runs down the street with him chasing right behind and we have this.

 photo Aim3-90.jpg

So silly. He begs her to come out and listen to his explanation. He misses her terribly. Mao Mao hides in the corner and cries like he’s the killer of her mother and she caught him holding the murder weapon. Seriously, let the two meet already. I’m tired of this cat-and-mouse game with the writer repeating the same flashbacks like we’re senile and can’t remember what was shown five minutes earlier.

I hope next episode kicks the storyline into exciting territory or I might give up on this series, which I don’t want to because I like the cast, even when the acting from our ladies are spotty and exaggerated at times. Sigh.

The best part for me so far is Chris Wang’s HUH face. It’s hilarious.

You need to watch In A Good way to fully appreciate the fine fine actor that is Lego Li. I dislike what they are making him out to be a lovesick boy, chasing after a girl like a loser!

Please let me come with you into the elevator. hhehehe

In A Good Way. I need to remember it. I have so many dramas on backlogs. Not even joking!

Thanks so much for the recaps. I really hope QF & YF storyline kick in because right now I’m loving DY & MM storyline. It seem like in episode 4 Qi Feng all ready have a crush on Yi Fen when MM ask him but he deny it. The last scene caps you did on the photo of MM & DY have me. ^_^…. I couldn’t stop laughing and totally agree DY should have turn the corner he would have found MM.

The romance worries me because we have a batch of pretty good actors and yet the writers seem a bit odd in handling romantic scenes.

I was shaking my head the whole time when he didn’t turn the last corner. I hope the reason for their break-up is epic to justify her crying like that.

You can’t expect anything from SETTV. Be its storyline nor the directing style. No wonder they rarely get an award.

The first episode didn’t grabbed me so I almost dropped it but I finally found the time to marathon 6 episodes and I think starting from ep4,5 onwards, Qifeng becomes so cute (he’s so inexperienced in love!). When I first saw the first set of teasers, I thought I’ll be more invested in Mao Mao and Dao Yuan’s loveline but I think so far, they’ve been playing the hide and seek game for too long that it just doesn’t feel enough of their potential being put out. I also think the writing as not as detailed and intricate as I want it to be.

Still, I’m enjoying more and more as the two couples start to interact more with each other (Qifeng is the one that grabs me unexpectedly). Lego’s character in here is a lot more warm than Liu Chuan in In A Good Way so at least I’m not reminded of Liu Chuan when I watch Dao Yuan. Looking past aside the flaws, It’s still a lot more enjoyable than SETTV has been putting out for their Sunday dramas (lotssss of Makjang).

I should get back to this drama. I stopped at episode 3 when the two couples barely have interactions at all. Qi Feng is indeed cute and muscular. Chris Wang plays him so well.

Sunday makjang dramas? Good thing I don’t follow them then! Woo!

      • 13 thoughts on “Aim High: Episode 2 & 3 “Run or Confront?”

Truthfully, I’m not a big fan of Chris Wang as I’ve always been pretty indifferent to the characters he play and he does not bring enough chemistry with his leading ladies but I’m starting to like Qi-feng and see him in a different perspective. I guess all he needs is a character that’s able to make me adore him. I prefer Lego Lee over Chris Wang but I think they both are pretty similar in terms of acting skills.

        • 13 thoughts on “Aim High: Episode 2 & 3 “Run or Confront?”

I’ve never noticed Chris Wang’s acting until this drama. He was cute before in various other projects. But this one, I really like.

Lego Lee, on the other hand, I still need to warm up to. I did not watch In A Good Way yet. Lol.

OMG the last two or three episodes after Mao Mao and Dao Yuan getting back together made me gushy over these two so much. ^_^ I’m over the moon for these two right now. Their kiss in the last episode made me blush so much.

    • 13 thoughts on “Aim High: Episode 2 & 3 “Run or Confront?”

Awww Guest, I wish I was watching this with you so I can spazz! I have no incentive to check back in for now. Good thing you’re enjoying it though. =)

      • 13 thoughts on “Aim High: Episode 2 & 3 “Run or Confront?”

I hope whenever you have time you can watch it. I almost give up because of Mao Mao stubbornness in the last few episodes but I hang in there. lol

The first three episodes was pretty good until it got into MM & DY storyline that when it was kind of frustrate since MM won’t just let DY back into her life. Now that they are a couple OMG they pull me back to how much I adore them since the being, Sorry I talk to much about them since they kind of grab my attention from the being.

Qi Feng & Yi Fen are a cutie couple but there nothing much going on with them since it still oneside love from QF but from episode 11 it look like YF finally tell QF she like him but she going off to Japan for her app.

Now the story is getting pretty good.

        • 13 thoughts on “Aim High: Episode 2 & 3 “Run or Confront?”

Oh lord, it’s episode 11 already and QF is still in one-sided love? That is alarming news!

No need to be sorry of the couple you like, Guest. Sometimes, we can’t help it. =D
