Good men die in The Journey of Flower’s fifteen-minute trailer

Lol. Yep. That’s what I learned in the latest trailer. Also, Hua Qian Gu is dumb! She would rather love a man who does his best in torturing her then pick one of the three men who could die to protect her. On the not so bright side, still no glimpse of romantic chemistry between the leads Zhao Li Ying and Wallace Huo. What’s going on here? Is it the story or the actors? Ai ya ya, I don’t know anymore.

Like the last time, there’s also an included English-dubbed trailer. See for yourself.

Trailers:

English Version below.

There are some laugh-out-loud lines though. Like when Qian Gu is starved for eating her mentor’s precious lotus flower. LOL

Yes! The cinematography is gonna be breath-taking. All those wide and far-away camera shots of the beautiful green mountains. =D

Lol. I watched the English version simply to understand and cringe from time to time. hehe.

LOL I couldn’t even get through the first few seconds. It was the same with the previous teaser trailer – the English dubbing is just awful, I don’t know why they do it…

They are trying to reach out to more international viewers? Seriously, the mando dubbing already annoys me, and now they’re doing IT IN ENGLISH? I FEEL SO MUCH BETTER.

          #NOT.

Yes. I heard the epic quote from Mr. Sha! I can’t believe they showed his ending (and the other two guys) in the trailer. What’s the point of me watching now? Sigh~

That’s the thing I’ve always noticed with Cdrama long trailers – they always show all the spoilers LOL.

Blegh the mando dubbing is worse enough – the English is 1000x worse and I couldn’t even sit through a few lines of it! Good Lord. I think they’re trying to reach an English speaking audience but IMHO English subtitles are just fine. I remember the Kdrama You’re Beautiful – they didn’t dub anything, just included optional English subtitles on the Youtube channel they were hosting it on, and it ended up reaching a MASSIVE international audience. If they wanted to do that with Flower, maybe they should’ve gone this route instead…

Watched the english dubbed trailer to see what all the fuss was about and I couldn’t take it seriously, lolz…. I started to laugh from beginning to end, man was it bad!!! haha…..
I mean to give it some credit they did use all the “correct” choice of wording from the Chinese to the English dubbing but the dubbers whilst not having “Chinglish” accents sounded so childish or not matching the characters they portray, esp. HQG; she sounded like a 5 year old child, lolz….

          “Master!”

          LOL.

        • 27 thoughts on “Good men die in The Journey of Flower’s fifteen-minute trailer

I think the company wanted to be cool and do direct English dubbing. If they insist on going down this route, hire ADULTS. At least.

The English Title takes a lot away from the original Chinese title. It doesn’t have the umphs!

@Nhube: Exactly my gripes with the English dub. They sound like children and it makes me cringe when I hear it. Seriously, could they not get adults to dub this?

@Kaptain: Blegh, TBH this type of story (ancient fantasy) is very difficult to translate to English in the first place, because a lot of the culture/historical background just doesn’t translate well into English. The main character’s name itself, “Hua Qiangu”, has nuances in it that “Journey of Flower” doesn’t get across.

According to the novel, the REASON she’s named “Hua Qiangu” (lit. Flower Thousand Bone) is because of the way she’s born and her “destiny” foretold at birth: her mother died at childbirth, all the flowers around her shrivel up and die if even 1 drop of her blood touches them, and she has a strange fragrance around her that attracts all sorts of demons, bringing bad luck to all around her. “Flower” is her surname. Her dad consulted some mystics and he was advised to name her “Thousand Bone” to help lower the amount of bad luck (cursed destiny) she carries with her. He eventually succumbed to it and dies at the beginning of the novel, which starts Hua Qiangu on her journey to find a Master of the Mystic Arts to help control her cursed destiny.

      • 27 thoughts on “Good men die in The Journey of Flower’s fifteen-minute trailer

And there’s a reason for her cursed destiny: Hua Qiangu is actually the reincarnation of the Last True Goddess who sacrificed herself to save the world by using her blood to seal the God of Demons into a bunch of Sacred Artefacts, the things that everyone else is trying to get their hands on. Her cursed destiny is because of the burdens carried over from being the Last Goddess.

The Immortals (i.e. Master and the Changliu Sect, etc.) are tasked with guarding these artefacts while the Demons (Demon Lord Sha Qianmo and his minions) are trying to gather them so that they can unleash the Demon God into the world.

Hua Qiangu’s blood is the blood of the Gods (and the only thing that can unseal the artefacts), which is why flowers/plants/etc. shrivel up and die if her blood touches them – they’re too insignificant lifeforms to be bestowed with the blood of the Gods.

And this is why there’s a whole bunch of Twilight-esque erotic vampire blood-sucking halfway through the novel (which we’ve been shown in the trailer and stills) – Master got poisoned and is dying and the only way to keep him alive is by feeding on Hua Qiangu’s Goddess blood. However, the only true way to save Master is to get the Sacred Artefacts and unseal them, using their powerful magic to get rid of the poison.

Of course, when Hua Qiangu did that, she unleashed the Demon God and this is why everyone’s trying to kill her. Master knows she did it to save him, but because her actions doomed the whole world, he had no choice but to punish her himself, or otherwise she’d be condemned (by all the Immortals) to have her soul destroyed and scattered to the winds. He had to be cruel to be kind, so to speak, which is why in the trailer he’s slashing at her and ended up taking the worst of the punishment himself (citing that it’s his fault he didn’t teach his student well) and then holding her bloody self in the prison afterwards.

That Penglai bitch and another Elder Master (who always hated Hua Qiangu) came in the prison cell afterwards and secretly crippled and disfigured her by throwing acid in her face and shoving acid down her throat without Master’s knowledge, but Hua Qiangu didn’t know that and thought her Master condoned such punishment.

        AND…epic angst ensues…

(I can’t shut up about this book, apparently. OMG)

        • 27 thoughts on “Good men die in The Journey of Flower’s fifteen-minute trailer

Thanks Shimo for connecting the plots together into a cohesive storyline! It has a very rich background and complex situations. I know I should pity the Master but maybe it’s not my cup of tea cause I’m already shipping her with the other men. Lol.

I saw pictures of the darker Hua Qian Gu (Zhao Li Ying in dark fury red), after her imprisonment and torture. Looking forward to those scenes! 😀

Sha Qianmo is hilarious in the novel! I dunno how much they kept that in the drama tho…

Lol after watching the chinese trailer I couldn’t stand watching even 30 seconds of the english one. It just sounds too hilarious. “Master..no!” haha.
Anyway, it doesn’t look too bad from what I watched in the trailer about Bai Zi Hua tortuing Hua Qian Gu. There were some parts that looked really harsh but I think there are reasons why he does that, I think Qian Gu did something wrong so I don’t think he did it just coz he enjoyed punishing her but I haven’t read the novel so I’m not too sure about the story. I also see a few times in the trailer that he saved her so I don’t believe he is that bad. I don’t know the other three actors who like Qian Gu so I’m definitely shipping Bai Zi Hua and Qian Gu all the way plus, they didn’t look all too ‘kind’ either.

Thanks for sharing this trailer! Is this one airing in 2015?

    • 27 thoughts on “Good men die in The Journey of Flower’s fifteen-minute trailer

Some of my friends have read the novels and most of them ship the main girl with 1 of the other 3 guys. Lol. Her master just had too much baggage and principles and too obsessed with being “right”. HQG will do anything to gain his favor but when it’s his turn, he rarely does it and it pisses my friends off. They really don’t understand why she’s obsessed with her master. haha.

There’s also the fact that the other three characters are played by not so handsome/unknown actors compared to the beautiful Wallace Huo. In the books, they are equally handsome and charming, so it’s a more fair fight.

This one does come out in 2015. The english-dubbed trailer is creepy and hilarious! LOL

        Right in one 🙂

I must admit I’m one of those novel fans who liked the other guys better than the Master too…

OMG THEY CHANGED SO MUCH STUFF!!!

Well at least they kept the epic quotes in (like Demon Lord Sha Qianmo’s epic speech – best lines in the novel)! 😀

The scenery is GORGEOUS so that’s definitely a highlight!

  6. 27 thoughts on “Good men die in The Journey of Flower’s fifteen-minute trailer

I understand Chinese but I still couldn’t understand what the heck was going on. What is this story really about?

A question about the Peng Lai princess: why does she hate Flower so much? Just because master chose her as disciple? She went from BFFs to mortal enemy over this? What a psycho!

    • 27 thoughts on “Good men die in The Journey of Flower’s fifteen-minute trailer

That Penglai princess was NEVER Flower’s friend in the novel. In fact, she started bullying her right from the beginning, because Flower came to them like a poor beggar and the Penglai princess was the most popular girl in school (with her beautiful face and powerful family background) and totally spoiled.

Also, the Penglai princess was in love with another senior disciple (and wanted to become his student instead of Master’s). It was only her dad that wanted her to be Master’s disciple.

Thanks @Shimokuren for the news bits!! I only heard things from my friends so it’s nice reading another pov since they are ADAMANT in not watching the tv adaptation out of spite for ruining their favorite characters. LOL.

You’re welcome! I’m a huge fan of the original novel and TBH the only reason I’m even looking at this drama is because of Wallace and the pretty scenery…
