At this rate, I won’t be sleeping tonight. It’s nearing 12am here and every time I want to head to my crib, a news article pops up. GO TO SLEEP, production workers. Anyway, this will be a short post as I’m only posting the trailer. Will add comments in the morning.
Hua Qian Gu finally has an English name, it’s called The Journey of Flower.

- I’m not sure what the writer is doing anymore cause from what I see, the pig-headed Sifu does NOT deserve my girl! She is slapped, whipped, and locked up by him. How are they gonna convince me that they are the OTP? That he loves HER?
- And yes, Sifu is definitely on the road to immortality crap again. You see his fangs hovering over her limp body? I knew I was right!
- And unfortunately….the chemistry ain’t there. Oh, I want to cry! I waited a long time for this to be epic!!
- What do you guys think? Passable?

There’s so few scenes of Li Ying interacting with Wallace, his character doesn’t seem to feature much in the drama.

it seems like they are keeping some of the fantasy elements of the novels right? her blood still makes plants and flowers died. and the whole tortured by the the small demons and stuff.
still upset by their casting choices for the epic Dongfang Yu Qing!! so angry!!

The English trailer was so weird I couldn’t finish watching it.
Gah the more I see of this production the less impressed I am by it. WTF there’s no chemistry between HQG and Sifu, and the whole relationship seems so much more abusive here than in the book. Like, in the book Sifu hurts HQG pretty badly but it was so that he could justify taking the worst punishment (the Chang Liu elders wanted to hit HQG with that would destroy her soul for all eternity) himself. And HQG was actually disfigured by the evil Chang Liu elder without Sifu knowing (Sifu actually sent a magical creature to protect HQG in her exile and was devastated when he found out her disfigurement).
Anyway enough with the spoilers but just wanted to say the epicness of the book doesn’t really show in the trailer and stills we’ve been shown so far…
I’m a bit disappointed with the casting of Dongfang and Sha Qianmo looks more like a drag queen than the very badass beautiful Demon Lord he’s supposed to be…

TBH HQG is one of my fave books and I was really looking forward to the drama adaptation, but the more I see of it the more it kinda kills my enthusiasm. I know this sounds harsh but I’m just less than impressed with the production so far and I’ll probably end up watching something else instead of this. Well, maybe I’ll check out the first few eps of HQG just to see how it goes but I’ve honestly lost all expectations for it now.
I think they have made some pretty big plot changes (judging from the trailer and the production news/summaries) and I’m not feeling ANY chemistry between the main characters. Apart from Sifu and HQG who are the main couple and supposed to have this EPIC ANGSTY SOUL-SHATTERING LOVE OF ALL TIME (which we don’t really see from Wallace and ZLY – they’re great on their own but have no chemistry with each other), HQG has a very important bond with both Dongfang and Sha Qianmo. Dongfang loves HQG dearly and he is so important to her – if it weren’t for Sifu she would’ve ended up with him FFS. Sha Qianmo is a big brother and protector to HQG who also loves her, and she is also very protective of him. All 3 relationships are complicated and full of chemistry/tension in the novel, but I’m just not seeing it here onscreen.
TBH the strengths of the HQG novel lie more in the character relationships than the actual plot (which gets a bit melodramatic at times), so IMHO the most important thing to get right in a drama adaptation (especially since we’re being shown onscreen which should be more effective than words on a page) is the depth of the characters’ feelings for each other. Screw that up and it’s a goner.

Methinks something is in the water in Mainland China cause all of my crushes are not generating chemistry with their respective OTP. Same thing with Gui Gui and Zhang Han in Pretty Man (that drama keeps dipping, it’s so sad.)
The way the production created the trailer makes me wanna punch Shifu all the more for his mistreatment of my girl! Nothing romantic at all.
That’s the way to go, watch a few episodes and then decide. In the name of fairness. 😛

LOL maybe the scriptwriter is a secret hater of the Sifu/HQG OTP and actually likes the Dongfang/HQG pairing more. Cuz nothing from the trailer is selling the “epic love story” of the main couple and you’re right about the Cdramas having flat (no chemistry) couples lately. The last time I saw a drama with awesome couple chemistry was Incisive Great Teacher. Nicky and Shishi have great chemistry because it’s them (they’ve already proven their chemistry in Bubu Jingxin and they’re a couple in real life), and Gui Gui and 10ye had surprisingly awesome chemistry together too, which made their story absolutely fantastic to watch!
