A new variety show! Featuring Kang Ho Dong and Lee Sugeun teaming up once again on KBS, with Max Changmin filling in the Idol role.

Comments: I am back. It will take me a bit to catch up on updates. I didn’t get to find the person I went looking for in Korea. I will try again soon. T.T Anyway, The special star they have come is High Jump star Kim Hyeseon. She has one of the best bodies I’ve ever seen! It is awesome when she takes off her jacket, her clothes are so tight, I drooled… I guess some other stuff happens. Oh yeah, Announcer Jeong In Yeong is back! She’s so hot.

Comments: Announcer Jeong In Yeong is part of the team, but just as a commentator. (I hope they get her to join some of the sports at least once). In just 1 week our team has their official match. An interesting contestant nicknamed “Kung Fu Panda” appears. He is pretty entertaining. The matches start off poorly and gradually get better. I would have been interested to see more of the Jo Dalhwan and Feeldog match, the team they played consisted of an elderly pair who were great at trick shots. My screenshot is of announcer In Yeong (orange) and the 2 coaches (blue). Anyway, there is a happy atmosphere at the end, yet that is no indication of a win.

Comments: Even if you are not a fan of 2PM, this episode will definitely make you laugh. Our home team goes to the studio to learn that Badminton is the next activity they will be challenging. Nichkun of 2PM is their Badminton guru, having played since the age of 9. It’s always the best part watching them take on a new sport for the first time, seeing how bad they really are at the beginning. Next they have to find their doubles partner, the staff got creative for the ways they meet. I guess I sort of spoiled it by listing out the celebrities, but you won’t know which partner matches with which home team member without watching the episode or check my screenshot closely. I feel a bit bad since I laughed more at this episode than I did at Running Man this week. Flower brothers HA HA Ha ha ha…

Challenging Team: Ssangchon Gwangju bowling team.

Comments: So, sadly Bora was replaced by Andy. I was hoping they would keep a female player, Bora did well on “Let’s Go Dream Team Season 2” archery competition as well as most of the Idol Olympics. She also has been in the variety world for a while so I would’ve liked her to stay. Perhaps they could bring back Rainbow members, I really like Jisook, also Woori and Jaekyung are seasoned variety show guests, of course Noeul is a childhood friend of Taeyeon and has the palest legs in all of the idol world (it looks like a spotlight is on her when she is dancing on stage, really; look it up!) But I’ve gone off on a tangent. Jo Dalhwan and his mom appear, I think they would be great guests on “Mama Mia”, but I haven’t checked to see if they got invited. The Cool Kiz play extremely consistently, picking up every spare and bowling nearly the same score in the first 3 games, the gwangju team was basically battling themselves. But poor Andy I felt sympathy for him in his match and then Max, who felt intense pressure for his battle (watch how pressure can crumble and dispirit this tall idol). Anyway this is the final bowling match before moving onto the next sport; Badminton with 2PM (and some other celebrities).

Challenging Team: The Noeun, Daejeon bowling team.
Activity: Bowling
Comments: The teams second away game. They are trying for 2 consecutive wins. 2 episodes back when Alex hit 2 golden pins, he received 2 golden envelopes, one of them was a session with the professional bowler, the other was to let them recruit a female team member. They recruited bora, but I’m not sure if she is now permanent or still a guest. Lee Sugeun used to be on Invincible Youth with Bora.

Challenging Team: SHINHWA
Activity: Bowling
Comments: SHINHWA, who hasn’t seen our home team win yet since the last episode hasn’t aired by the filming time, challenges. The wager, if SHINHWA loses, they will add bowling choreography into their music performances. The Home team will wear a uniform promoting SHINHWA if they lose. The pretty idol boys Max Changmin and Shin Hyesung duel first. They start off really strong, but lose their strength by the 3rd frame, I expected as much; they have no real muscle mass. Byeong Jin then challenges Jun Jin; then Ho Dong and Dongwan; Alex and Eric; Sugeun and Andy and finally Dalhwan and Minwoo. It makes me hope SHINHWA promotes on Running Man one day. Did anyone else go bowling after watching these episodes? By the way, thank you for your comments! I appreciate the response. So there are people reading this post. In that case I will put more effort into this and hope that KBSworld continues to make these shows available.

Comments: The conclusion to the competition between our heroes and the local heroes of Dongchun. Sun Hwa makes an appearance here, which should entice some of the male fans. For the females, look forward to next week when SHINHWA will bowl. Note that this week is a close game, the scores leading up to the final match are not far. By the way, does anyone actually read this post?

Comments: The first part of the episode is a brief reflection for our home team on the total defeat last episode. A comment made by Jo Dalhwan sends the rest of the team into disarray. The face some challenging training but end up learning a lot. The latter part of the episode introduces our competition, Kang Ho Dong is once again up against an octogenarian and has his pride on the line as well.

Activity: Bowling
Comments: Lee Byeong Jin tries to salvage Sugeuns loss from the previous episode, but struggles with a dry lane. His long curve sets the team back so they send in Ahn Hyung Joon. He struggles as well from a lack of power, although his directional control is good, but no comeback results from the unknown actor as well. Our celebrities sit 1 loss away from total defeat so choose to send in Jo Dalhwan over an injured Alex to try to salvage the situation, but he faces Daegu’s muscle man, a.k.a. “terminator”.

Comments: Lee Sugeun tries to infiltrate the Daegu bowling team, but of course gets spotted and identified immediately. The team sets out on their first away game, the third match of the show. Last episode they selected their prize if they can win 4 matches in a row. However, seeing their competition in person proves their win will be much tougher to achieve. The first is match up is Sugeun versus Daegu’s best player. Our Cool Kiz decided that a win would shake their opponents foundation while a loss wouldn’t hurt much. Unfortunately they take a loss.

Comments: Seungho and Jo Dalhwan are also present. This week the team prepares to bowl by having practice sessions. They are discouraged at first by Alex and Hyungjoon’s performances, but gain confidence with the arrival of Comedian Lee Byeong Jin. The team play the silent game, whoever talks or gets the lowest score gets a flick on the nose or other punishment. They also decide on a new prize, since they’ve already been thrown into the air.

Comments: I decided that Seungho and Jo Dalhwan are in the main cast now. Two parts to this episode, the first consists of inviting athletic friends. They give the friends a fitness test to measure athleticism. The MC who’s friend comes last in the first part has to compete first in the next challenge. The second part is the actual 3rd Challenge, bowling. There are many guests because of the first portion. Anyone else besides me notice HoDong’s dentist friend helping Choi Siwon win the first part? Watch Sugeun literally kick Hodong in the second part!

Comments: The closing scene is actually reminiscent of a 1n2d opening so I grabbed a screenshot. It makes me nostalgic for the Kang Ho Dong crazy openings. Minho reappeared somehow? I’m hoping the closing cast is actually the new line-up, but I already know I’m wrong. Kang Ho Dong is matched up with an 84 year old grandfather in this episode. At the end, when Su Geun scolds him for playing so hard against an “86 year old”, KHD retorts, saying “He was only 84! I wouldn’t have complained if he was 86! He was a young man.” to which Su Geun replies “Then was the 82 year old I beat just a young girl?” I am looking forward to next weeks episode.

Comments: At the end of the last episode (and recap at the beginning of this episode) we learn that the next challenge is Table Tennis, again. Jo Dalhwan feeling insecure recruits Jeon Eunpyo for help. They also receive a request from JaeKyung to join the show, of course its her first time playing table tennis and she is only their to promote Rainbow. The group is able to recruit the help of Soo Yeon Lee as a coach, not a player (since she used to be a pro). You may have seen her on Jay Leno playing Table Tennis with Susan Sarandon. I gather that they dropped Kim Byung Man. Minho disappears for the most part as well.

Comments: The screenshot shows Park Sung Ho, one of the aces of the team, and his opponent, 12 year old Kim Yeongrae. Sugeun is matched against an 82 year old Grandmother, a win for him would still feel like losing. The team is worried about winning, especially since the format is “first to 4 wins”. That means the order is important, losing 4 straight means the last 3 players don’t even get to play. Watch the episode to see if Kang Ho Dong can win his wish of being thrown into the air.

Comments: My Screenshot is Minho flying. He’s really a natural athlete. Ho Dong and Max come back after their previous show was cancelled and meet Su Geun to find out the basic premise of the show, receiving various challenges from local communities and competing for prizes/wishes. When they learn the first challenger is a Table Tennis team, they brainstorm celebrities that can join their team. One important rule, no former athletes of the challenging sport. Max calls his buddy Minho who states he is “ok” at table tennis. Unfortunately there was a miscommunication, by “ok” Minho meant “I’m at least good enough to beat Max”; both of them end up competing for the “worst player on team” title.

Actually this show replaced “Moonlight Prince” which was also cancelled.
I’m not sure how long ‘barefoot friends’ will survive, but that show is definitely lacking something. Some forums I read had suggested adding an older female, like a singer, actress or comedian. I think they are right because it would add a motherly role and set Uee apart. Right now her female presence is too weak and the attitude that prevails is “let’s get this over with”. It feels like they are just trying to avoid some punishment. The roles are too obscure so its hard to empathize with the cast. Eunhyuk wasn’t even in this weeks episode, and he was one of the stronger members. What do you think could save ‘Barefoot friends’?
I’m liking this show a lot more than barefoot friends, but I’m a Lee Sugeun fan so I’m biased.

moonlight prince was terrible! omgosh, talking about books when i doubt the comedians and idols even read!!
UEE…. lol… she’s very catty on another show that i saw with the After school girls. having another girl her age would be fun to see them challenging it each other. an older guest would be fun but motherly isn’t what i want. maybe someone like kim won hee. she cracks.
the traveling concept is confusing to watch and costly for the program. they ought to stay inside Korea.

Moonlight prince lasted 8 episodes, 6 episodes too long! KHD reading? Nobody is going to buy that concept (and nobody did). Even when the book was the “Slam Dunk” manga, he was still lost.
This show (NKOTB) is much, much better. I think programs like this, where Kang Ho Dong is running around local neighbourhoods in Korea -forced to make impromptu contacts and sometimes use his celebrity status to gain the upper-hand- is closer to his niche.
So how long do you think barefoot friends can survive before its cut? Will it even reach 8 episodes? I’m still confused about the concept. So they travel to an unknown country and try to live like a local, but not really? And KHD just talks to everyone in Korean anyway, but nobody reacts to him. He got ignored a lot, which I felt like doing too. The cast is constantly separated. Its like 8 celebrities went to the same country separately but meet up occasionally…

Barefoot friends was good this week (episode 7). If they can keep Hyori on, or someone like her, the show will start to do well.
