What? You think Yumama is done with Jin Yong’s novels? Nope. He’s here to rebuild the wuxia world. The young actor, Chen Xiao, at 25, has been in numerous Yu Zheng’s productions – Gong 3, The Swordsman, and as the protagonist in Female Prime Minister. Am I complaining? – too many remakes already – but I approve of him, mainly because this lad looks great in period dramas as compared to modern outfits, where he’s just another pretty boy with Asian bangs.
Through a phone interview, Yu Zheng tells the reporters that his version will retain the spirit of the novel. While the script is still being written, he reveals harboring some thoughts in adding a few more details to the character, Li Mo Chou, as well as Huan Rong and Guo Jing, to make them his own. When Yu Zheng says he’s not changing anything, just roll your eyes, keke.
Two things that Yu Zheng assures to be left alone: 1) The little Dragon Girl will still float around the set in full white. (Do you know why she has to wear white, folks? If she WEARS any other colors, her bland expression will fade in the background!) 2) The fighting sequences will use less CGI effects.
Chen Xiao and Zhao Li Ying in Female Prime Minister (WHEN CAN I SEE THIS ADORABLE OTP?! JAN 2013!)
A peek at the cast members so far:
Zhang Ting as Huan Rong. Aw. This is cute!
Child actress Zhang Xue Ying (张雪迎) as Guo Xiang. You will also see her in The Swordsman as Qu Fei Yang. She looks like a kid in the photo above. Don’t fret!
Yu Zheng on Guo Xiang casting: “I remember Zhang Xue Ting is 10 years younger than Chen Xiao (’87er). I believe my casting choice is correct.”
How she looks now at 15. Her character in period drama Beauties Without Tears (美人无泪).
Other characters: Guo Jing is a toss between Zheng Gou Lin and Qiu Xin Zhi. No confirmed news on Xiao Long Nu but the possible candidates are Li Qin, Zhao Li Ying, and Tong Li Ya.

Need a reminder of the series?
Check out the theme songs of each version below. Nothing like music to bring you back in time.
When Will We Meet Again – Teresa Cheung
– A Classic is a classic indeed. My parents still play this song.
Mythical Love Phrases – Wakin Chau and Chyi Yu
– Looks-wise, Louis wins but he’s a baby-faced back then compared to Andy.
Fate Comes and Leaves – Christopher Lee and Fann Wong
– New fans, Singapore has some epic wuxia songs.
Unknown Pleasures – Richie Ren
– Didn’t like Richie Ren’s portrayal that much. XLN WORE BLACK!
(A Love) Unparalleled Under the Sky – Jane Zhang
– Didn’t watch this version because I’m FED UP with remakes.

LOL definitely too many yu zheng this week kap. 😀
chen xiao….. looks great in ancient setting that i agree with but is his acting good? haven’t watched any dramas he’s in. SO YOUNG LAH? only 25!!
XLN WORE BLACK? WTH? Who was the director for this one?!
for once im a bit sad to be young…those songs don’t ring a bell AT ALL. just saw briefly the 2006’s version and it was BEAUITULLLL i doubt the older version can match in terms of cinematography. 😆

I agree with you frea, i’m kinda of a youngin’ (16) and the only one i’ve seen is the 2006 version and I really thought the would’ve stop after it.
Honestly, after seeing HXM and LYF pairing you can’t get better. They were gorgeous together, the filming was beautiful etc, yeah there are comments about LYF “bland” facial expression but she had grace and petite-ness and what not that really seemed to fit. And after seeing the people in and up for casting, it’s really a disappointment to see all these other new-bees.
*Le Sigh* Yu Zheng just have to come and ruin the entire Chinese Entertainment Industry doesn’t he?

great! *cough cough*, more jinyong remakes. first it was the smiling proud wanderer, now return of the condor heroes. next thing we’ll hear will be most definitely “i (yu zheng) might as well make a new adaptation for every jinyong novel”

as much as i like huang xiao ming, but i don’t like the actress, she looks too young and cute… her acting wasn’t as good as the previous ones..

I like Huang Xiao Ming’s version the best. K, you should watch it. I wonder how this newest version will be like? By “cycle”, everytime they decide to remake Demi-God, Semi-Devils, they will remake Return of Condor Heroes – two of Jing Yong’s best novels. This happens every 4-6 years in order to keep the versions new and appealing to the new generation of viewers. 🙂

Kimster, that is indeed his mission as we have seen so far! Although I heard many fans are disgruntled with him, I also read many say that he’s a man of humor (replying to fans on weibo, poking fun at his own style, etc).
Yui, I like HXM too, no opinion on his YG… Regarding his XLN, I’ll speak more when Yu Zheng confirms an actress. 😛
Aryael, maybe one day I’ll watch it…. one day! 😉 I just look up Jin Yong, he’s 88 this year! Still famous and respected in the field. I do wonder about his love life…since his heroes tend to be surrounded WITH MANY pretty girls.

Oh. Em. Gee ~ I can recognize Richie Ren’s voice right off the bat. Oh, I need to share another Richie Ren song from the movie “Summer Love” w/ Sammi Cheng – I really love that movie a great lot! I’ll put up the song some time after NY’s.
I’m still riding on the FED UP boat w/ remakes. I have yet to find a remake shore I like. =p Still, not in the mood w/ what I see so far.

“XLN wore black”
WTF? That’s just mind-boggling. I personally liked the original and the latest versions best (Andy Lau’s and Huang Xiao Ming’s), but I really think that the Jin Yong series is overused… On a sidenote, I’m really dreading this, cos Yu Zheng’s adaptations of books are kinda fail…it doesn’t help that I don’t recognise any of the cast either.
