Recap: Feast of the Gods Episode 9

Ack! The boy is officially a goner. Just look at his wandering eyes, now settling warmly on Joon Young as she calls out his hyung’s name. The boy who didn’t care about anyone begins his journey to care about this one girl. Let’s all hope she doesn’t break his heart, along with mine.

Last episode leaves us with a fuming In Joo, glaring at Joon Young, who has just received her uniform. She doesn’t say anything and storms inside Doo Hee’s office, demanding for a re-take. Mom says no, a chef must learn to accept and move on with these kinds of competitions.

All is well as Joon Young moves into the Arirang’s dormitory. She is greeted on a happy note by Shin Young and Daniel.

A bomb drops. While Baek Sul is preparing to release her golden sauce to the markets, Doo Hee drops by to tell her the second book she’s been showing off is a fake. Which means all the sauce she’s made up till now…is a joke. Baek Sul calls this absurd but Doo Hee calmly asks her to taste the sauce and confirms it for herself. She does and breaks down in angry tears. All the hard effort to destroy Doo Hee is done in vain. Woman, who’s your source?

At work, Jae Ha’s assistant complains about his hard task. They’re trying to invite all the famous chefs from last year’s Korean Food Festival and he’s having a hard time contacting Haemil’s manager. We also learn here that our masked chef Haemil is not particularly liked by Korean netizen for he has on several occasions expressed dislike towards Korean foods.

Jae Ha calls In Joo, but she is tired and has no time for a play date. He continues driving along the road and notices Joon Young carrying two boxes of kimchi. Oh. Poo! Keep your eyes straight! Don’t stop!

He goes against my wishes anyway and it’s funny seeing him contemplate the question in his head – should I give her a ride home? Is this going where I think it is? Girlfriend has no time to play so boyfriend falls in love with another girl?

Photobucket

During the car ride, she tries to dismiss the awkward silence and states that she feels sorry towards In Joo and him, having won the competition. He states objectively, “You don’t need to feel that way towards me.” In her second attempt, Joon Young calls out his sloppy way of handling confession – you could at least reject me honestly. He wonders whether confession is her specialty and she proudly takes the title.

PhotobucketPhotobucket

They arrive at Da Eun’s house and Jae Ha volunteers to fix the water faucet. We hear water splashing and he comes out, wet. Since it’s a house full of ladies and a grandma, Jae Ha has no choice but to change into the girl’s bright yellow shirt and hot pink pants. He’s too embarrassed and covers himself with a blanket when Joon Young knocks on the door. They exchange cute glances until his suit is washed and dried.

PhotobucketPhotobucket

They walk outside and view the city nightlife, which is when he honestly tells her about his feelings. After her confession, he was shaken and felt sorry towards In Joo, but after a few days, everything feels okay now. ARE YOU SURE MISTER? Because you feeling sorry towards In Joo is a sign that something doesn’t feel right. It’s late now and he drives off to vent out this ball of tangled feelings at a punching machine.

The next morning, Joon Young runs into Do Yoon, and she meekly asks him to carry her bags to the dorm. He does but immediately drops them when she mentions his hyung, thinking that they had a brotherly fight, leading to his drunken state the other night.

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Appropriately dressed, Joon Young heads to the practice room where In Joo is laying out her weapons cooking utensils. Joon Young offers a handshake so they could be friends. In Joo takes it and immediately screams for her to get out. Doo Hee overhears and ignores her daughter’s outburst. However, In Joo can’t bear having another person in her practice room, taking things away from her, and storms outside.

Doo Hee steps outside and tells In Joo to get her facts straight – Joon Young did not scheme anything with Baek Sul. In other words, “Get your act together because I’m really disappointed with my daughter’s behavior as of late.”

Now that she is being trained, Joon Young gets to help Head Chef Im Do Shik prepare food. Naturally, Boo Joo, who is crushing on Do Shik, grows agitated as she looks on.

The mole, Soo Jin, is called to Baek Sul’s office. This time, though, she has grown a spine, and refuses to do any dirty deed. She wants to live as an upright role model for her son. Just then, her brother calls and informs that someone has already paid the medical bills. Oops.

Secretary Han has some bad news. Do Yoon causes a ruckus somewhere and the reporters are now checking his background…he may be Baek Sul’s son? She doesn’t want a tainted reputation and gives out order to send him back to England.

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Head Chef Im Do Shik sends Joon Young and Do Yoon out on an errand. At the seafood markets, Joon Young shows off her knowledge of sea animals.

Do Yoon wonders, “How do you distinguish between a male and a female abalone?” Joon Young explains that their internal organs have different colors, males are green, and females are red. At the same time, Do Yoon looks ahead and runs towards his van. Joon Young also hops on and sees the place a mess. Someone then locks the door and tows it along.

Baek Sul calls Do Yoon, “Get ready, you don’t need luggage!”

PhotobucketPhotobucket

He is brought to Baek Sul. But he can’t go back to England, unless he wants to die. Living through the methods of bleeding every day is not ideal. He tells her he used a different name that’s how even his mighty mother can’t locate him.

Baek Sul: Why? Why do you live this way?
Do Yoon: Because I wanted to show you….
Baek Sul: …That because of me, you are willing to hit the bottom?
Do Yoon: *nods*
Baek Sul: What a crazy person…

What a twisted relationship, I say. She’s not backing down and informs him that a conference will be held soon in which she announces the status of her son’s studies in England, and then you’ll no longer be my son. “Thanks!” he says, “Just give me back my hyung!” Secretary Han reveals the details.

Photobucket

While waiting in the van, Joon Young plays with the blocks, and assures Head Chef that they’re fine. Do Yoon returns and they drive off to a forest cemetery, his hyung new home.

PhotobucketPhotobucket

He stands there for a long time, just staring at Ji Yoon’s picture and finally turns around to see Joon Young. She didn’t want to bother him and sits there quietly. They exchange a heart-to-heart talk in which she dreams of being called Doo Hee’s disciple, while he wants to go back to the past and do everything with his hyung. He smiles when she calls out Ji Yoon’s name since nobody but him has ever said his name. He’s touched by the genuineness.

Joon Young-ah, you made the hole yourself. Take responsibility! Don’t break his heart lah!

PhotobucketPhotobucket

On the way back, Joon Young peeks at his French Cuisine book and salivates at the sight of this one dish, and Do Yoon takes note of it. OMGosh. I’m already squealing. Is he? ISSSHE?

Photobucket

Moving the plot along, Grandma has decided to close Arirang tomorrow, so that Doo Hee can learn the recipe for the golden sauce from Joon Young. Jae Ha’s mission is to take In Joo out on a date, preventing her from knowing and getting hurt. She’s going to hate ya’ll regardless.

On the other side, Baek Sul catches news of the closed day and hurries over to congratulate Doo Hee. Right…

Photobucket

Do Yoon flips through his French cuisine book and decides to cook that very same dish Joon Young was talking about yesterday. He brings out his set of cutlery with the “H” letter carved onto every knife. Awww!! You know a man who cooks is half way to winning a girl’s heart right? 50 points! 😀

PhotobucketPhotobucket

The date. Man! In Joo is as stiff as a rock. Jae Ha’s right about that one, she’ll become Arirang’s ghost in no time. In Joo finally relaxes when they come across a live band performing – how I wish it was the Eye Candy boys. 😉

When the band leader finishes his song, he waves Jae Ha over. The latter runs a hand through his hair shyly and steps in. He points the drumstick at In Joo, “This is for you!” and starts banging on the drums like a pro. She cheers him on like a sweet girlfriend.

… Until a dreadful phone call arrives from Baek Sul, killing the moment. In Joo rushes back, threatening Jae Ha to stay away.

Photobucket

Back at Arirang, the final ingredient is a rock (pumice?), which has the ability to purify the water giving the golden sauce its unique taste. Grandma watches from far away and acknowledges her old friend’s ability to train Joon Young.

“I will protect this child from now on.”

Photobucket

In Joo comes back and is exasperated with the whole ordeal. She’s first! She’s first! Always!

Photobucket

The reporters come crashing into Arirang grounds, after hearing the rumors spread by Baek Sul that Go Joon Young is the person who made the golden sauce, not Doo Hee, the master chef! What a shame!

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Jae Ha holds back the reporters as In Joo grabs Joon Young’s hand and runs away. Next to a muddy pool, In Joo accuses Joon Young of calling the reporters. She denies it and In Joo snaps back, “Then why didn’t you clarify? That you’re a fake and mom made it? Why didn’t you?!!”

Photobucket

In Joo reaches for the necklace and throws it into the pool, and Joon Young tumbles into the water along with it.

Photobucket

At the same time, someone gets off the plane, strolls idly along the path. He is father Soon Bum, the man who started it all.

Alice: Yay! Finally an episode that makes my heart beat faster waiting for the next one! This is really a matter of pride for Doo Hee, is she going to admit the truth or spin off an excuse to save her reputation?

And I have to say, from the very beginning, I’ve always thought that Joo Sang Wook is the main lead but his character is far less interesting than Do Yoon. Jae Ha is in simple terms, a good guy, a gentleman. While Do Yoon has this conflicted character in which he can form complex relationships with almost everyone in the main cast. I wonder whether the boys are going to have their own drama as well when it comes to Haemil. heeeeeeee! Let’s meet him soon ya?

And the father! He comes home looking like an archaeologist guys. Can’t wait for the next episode, In Joo is not going to let her drown right? That’s downright one-dimensional, constantly feeding us that she’s the villain! C’mon! We saw her smile in this episode. She’s not that bad, show something else!

Photobucket

They always pick the most beautiful city view ever!

I still like Do Yoon better than Jae Hae for Joon Young! nd I don’t understand why they make, a girl wo has survived falling off a boat, abandoned by her fake father so weak! I just don’t get it.. Maybe someone can explain it to me.
