Recap: Feast of the Gods Episode 5 & 6

Photobucket

I’m behind by four episodes so in order to catch up, I’m going to be brief in this recap (errr..). Hope this is as painless as possible because Joon Young is pretty clumsy in these two episodes, which drove me nuts in some scenes.

Not the scene above apparently. Now you know where my loyalty is anchored.

Episode 5:

PhotobucketPhotobucket

After her failed performance, In Joo puts on a smiley face for Joon Young, but within the walls of her kitchen, she explodes – dumping the foods and trashing the place. Anyone thinks she needs major anger management classes? Of course! And that management comes in the form of Jae Ha. He backhugs her, assuring her that everything is fine, it’s not a big deal. Joon Young arrives to get the Heavenly Book (she placed it under the counter before the competition last episode) and sees this scene. Good! Reveal it to her now than later is what I’m saying.

Bael Sul is being interview before the appearance of Do Yoon catches her off guard. She whispers to her body guard and he heads out with his men.

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Do Yoon steps up his gas….and almost hits into Joon Young. He’s in a hurry so he pushes her into the car on the excuse that they need to get her checked out in a hospital. And so Joon Young gets to experience a wild car chase scene. heh.

Do Yoon succeeds to outrun the men and notices Joon Young’s injured knee. He gives her some band-aid but she says it’s okay. Clearly, the scratch on her knee is incomparable to the one in her heart. Sigh! Why do you people love so fast and so deep?

PhotobucketPhotobucket

In Joo visits Doo Jee, ready for a reprimand; however, her mother has softened and holds In Joo’s injured fingers, telling her that she does not need to try so hard to make her proud. A mother is always proud of her daughter. Don’t eat your words later on Doo Hee.

Photobucket

Joon Young drinks, and has an argument with herself – Jae Ha is a jerk! No, he’s nice! – and sits at the bus stop in her drunken stupor. The buses come and go while she dozes off. Do Yoon passes by and she falls conveniently onto his shoulder. *squeals*

Photobucket

Next morning, she freaks out, finding herself in Do Yoon’s car. She asks where they are and he says he parked the car where they first met, so now they aren’t indebted to each other anymore. She hurries inside the kitchen to fetch her book and return back home.

Photobucket

This is so cute! After she returns home, Joon Young is in low-spirits and sleeps all day, which worries Grandpa. He goes as far as cooking her food (after she retired as his personal chef). hehe

She wonders if she should go to Seoul and he advises her to think things through before making a big decision. Be happy with your decision, he says. And Joon Young remembers her days in Arirang kitchen, how happy she was working there. Grandma drops by…and everything is decided. In flashback, Grandma makes a deal with Joon Young – she will protect her mother’s grave, and in return, Joon Young will follow her requests.

PhotobucketPhotobucket

At the next executive meeting, Doo Hee recommends In Joo as the next potential successor for Arirang and Grandma quickly adds – it will be more interesting to train more than one candidate. She introduces Joon Young to the board members, and In Joo is shocked. They deny Joon Young because of her lack of professional training but Grandma dismisses all objections by putting her seniority on the line. Wooo~ old lady is playing it tough.

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Joon Young’s first order – win some brownie points from Master Chef Doo Hee. Already it’s difficult because Doo Hee tells Joon Young in a harsh manner that she has no intention of accepting another candidate.

Photobucket

Similarly, the folks in the kitchen side with In Joo and naturally ignores Joon Young in all her attempts to help. She tries to help Do Yoon with the egg cases…but she trips over the cord and crashes into him. Bang!

Photobucket

And this is how Jae Ha finds her – egged and messy. Embarrassed, she runs outside where In Joo stumbles into them and suggests Joon Young go clean up at her house. While Joon Young’s in the shower, In Joo sees a neatly wrapped item in Joon Young’s luggage and takes a peek. It’s the Heavenly Book of Cooking Method. She compares it to the one Baek Sul gave her and figures out the former one is a fake.

Skip. Some Scenes. Skip. Skip.

PhotobucketPhotobucket

In Joo lashes out at Jae Ha’s comment that everything is not a big deal. She emphasizes that it IS a big deal. All the hard work she has to put in for the past 15 years only took that girl a day to catch up. WHY???? Um, maybe because they belong to her in the first place? Jae Ha is stumped and leaves with a heavy heart.

PhotobucketPhotobucket

The next big event – dinner for a Spanish President. Everyone has left after wrapping up their preparation. Only Do Yoon is in the kitchen, cleaning the last batch of abalone (?). When the coast is clear, he goes around taking pictures of the ingredients and jotting down notes. Next, he enters the safe room. This is when Joon Young enters the kitchen and cleans the remaining abalone. Upon hearing footsteps, she quickly jumps into the biggest pot available. But Do Yoon is not an idiot and lifts the lid. They stare at each other…and he nonchalantly closes the lid, turns off the lights, and exits. haha XD I love these two!

Photobucket

The next day, Joon Young is determined to get some work and in order to get them, she competes with the leader ajuhmma. Cooking and flipping egg pancake! She wins and In Joo steps in to formally introduce Joon Young as her rival to become Arirang’s Master Chef.

Episode 6:

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Still pissed over her defeat, Leader Ajuhmma sends Joon Young to the storage house to sort beans. Another woman offers to help her carry the bag outside. The woman then receives a call from Baek Sul, who orders her to mess up the presidential dinner. Oh! There’s a mole!

Photobucket

To her dismay, Joon Young finds Do Young in the storage house sorting out beans as well. The two of them bicker back and forth until Joon Young receives a phone call from Jae Ha. He wants to go on a date! The perfect way to plant ideas into your crush!

Photobucket

Joon Young comes back and warns Do Yoon not to touch her beans while she’s gone. She raises a fist and mumbles, “If you touch them, you’re dead!” Gahhh I’m falling hard for these two. 😉

Photobucket

Jae Ha is particularly awkward and sensitive on the date, knowing full well it’s going to end up a mess no matter how nice he treats Joon Young. It’s interesting to see this side of him because he’s a clear-cut nice guy and it’s not a gentleman thing to do by telling the rival of his girlfriend to give up.

PhotobucketPhotobucket

But he does so anyway, “I don’t think there’s a place for you here, Miss Go Joon Young.” She holds back the tears and refuses to grant that favor.

Photobucket

Returning to the storage house, she continues with the beans sorting. And reprimands herself for falling for a “taken” man. She promises not to think of him anymore and if she does…she’d pull a gun…and…BANG. Do Yoon lends her his finger gun. hehehe

Late that night, the mole from Baek Sul…enters the kitchen….wearing…HIGH HEELS! OMGosh. It cracks me up that she has no sense of subtlety at all. Woman, you can’t expect to be pretty and not get caught! Unless you’re City Hunter’s girlfriend or something. We don’t know what she does but the woman carelessly bumps into In Joo outside. Alibi gone!

PhotobucketPhotobucket

On cleaning duty the next morning, Joon Young mops the floor and stops when she doesn’t hear noise from the refrigerator. The cord was unplugged! Doo Hee and everyone else gets there in time and look with suspicion at Joon Young. The mole is nervous and runs outside. In Joo follows her and tells her she hasn’t done anything wrong. As long as she doesn’t remember seeing her last night. Tskk.

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Well, this is the perfect opportunity for Doo Hee to get rid of the “sore” aka Joon Young because apparently there’s a witness who saw Joon Young last night in the kitchen. Shameless mole!

Once outside, Grandma knocks some sense into Joon Young – if she didn’t do it, then she must prove her innocence until the last day of her life!

To salvage the situation, Doo Hee throws away all the unusable food and prepares dishes that come directly from Arirang’s own source, complete with its unique flavor.

Photobucket

Not giving up, Joon Young runs around the whole place, trying to help but she is turned down repeatedly. Until she finally catches a big chicken for the boys – Daniel and Mi So.

It’s dinner time for the Spanish President and Doo Hee prepares a simple meal for him. He looks satisfied at her explanation.

Photobucket

Baek Sul stands outside of Arirang and wonders how long the place is going to last. Her assistant comes up and informs her that they have found Do Yoon’s whereabouts. A chef in Arirang. She laughs like a lunatic and orders the assistant to catch him. NOW!

Photobucket

Joon Young stands outside the kitchen, wondering the results of the dinner. Curious, Do Yoon stands behind her and looks ahead. Gahhh he’s so cute. X) He looks her up and down, taking in her messy face and dirty clothes. She’s quick to clarify that she didn’t unplug the refrigerator but he cuts her off, “You’re bleeding.” And so she pulls out a handkerchief and ties it. She then looks at him sheepishly, “Can I ask you a favor? Go in and see if the head chef is there.” He replies curtly, “I don’t want to.” The next thing we know he pulls her inside the kitchen where the staff is awaiting for the news.

Photobucket

Head Chef Im Do Shik comes back. The Spanish President likes the food! Everybody rejoices, and he asks for the witness who saw Joon Young in the kitchen that night. No one says anything and therefore, without a witness, Joon Young is innocent until proven otherwise. She’s allowed to work in the kitchen.

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Do Yoon is sent out on an errand to the markets which is when Mom’s men tail him. He plays around with them for a bit and then heads straight to the source – Mom’s restaurant, Sanarae, to meet her. Baek Sul wants him to quit the job at Arirang before gossips break out but he refuses because that’s the reason why he went in – to create scandals. He asks that she pretends not to know, just like what she did when his hyung died. Woooooooo. Final punchline sends chills down her spine.

Photobucket

Back at Arirang, Jae Ha helps Joon Young carry the bean bag inside, and the atmosphere is awkward. He tries to crack some jokes but fails miserably because she’s isn’t responding…until he sees the wound on her ankle. He hurries outside to grab a first aid kit.

PhotobucketPhotobucket

He comes back and applies disinfectant on her injury as she looks on, a tear streaming down. He wonders if it’s painful and she gives a speech about it hurting a lot, to the point that the world becomes dark. Jae Ha slowly realizes what she means…

Alice: GAH! Joon Young ah! He’s a man with a girlfriend! Grab a hold of yourself. I don’t like where they’re taking this relationship because it’s never a clean thing to come out of. You’re always going to be labeled a wrecker. I think it would be sweeter if Jae Ha stays with In Joo until the end because it’s proof that he loves her for the person that she is (be it good or bad) rather than the name she’s attached to, In Joo, his childhood sweetheart. Because sometimes I feel that it was how things developed between young Jae Ha and young In Joo when they were teenagers. He put up with her tantrums because she’s his In Joo. The one before the switch.

This is not because I ship Joon Young x Do Yoon. 😛

Do Yoon is such an interesting character. Now I wonder why he has taken those pictures of the kitchen. He’s not working with his mom…so what’s his motive? Take down Arirang?

I thought i was the only one watching this drama. I managed to keep up with this one

I also wondered about Do Yoon’s motives but after you watch the other eps he’s definitely not helping his mom

I agree with you on the clumsiness, i think they over did it i mean does she have to be that clumsy. Its bad enough people don’t like her.

And i just can’t believe that after meeting Jae Ha for a like a minute she’s already i lover with him – or are they trying to make the connection to the young Injoo to explain why cos if they are then they have failed to do so. I felt it was much too soon for her to start confessing i felt nothing for her when she was crying.

in truth i feel nothing for all the characters – after the confessing Joon young lost me, In Joo’ just getting meaner and meaner, liked JAe Ha but not anymore, Do yoon’s mom is a quack, nothing special about the rest of the kitchen staff. I think i only like the haelmoni at Arirang and the harabuje Joon Young looks after.

    ^ YADA! A spazz partner!

I’m with you Annette. It’s slated for 32 episodes so I’m not sure why the writers have to develop the love line in a rush! And if they were going for the childhood sweetheart, that’s more strange. She was only 5 for god’s sake!

When she cries… I’m yawning. Like literally! 😛

I’m very very interested in Do Yoon after seeing a picture of him wearing a mask. Maybe it’s for the upcoming episodes that I haven’t seen yet. Looks like there’s more to this boy. hehe And he has chemistry with Joon Young. At least she isn’t all mopey and sulky around him. Whew! And he’s single!

    Make it happen writer!

This drama is 32 eps and they’ve already started the love triangle??!!!! II forsee a lot of dragginess in future eps o_O

I’ve been skimming through the eps so i missed the part he was wearing a mask, which ep was it? Don’t really like the actress playing In Joo

    Count me in ladies 🙂

I am really enamored to this drama. I don’t know why . . . This one is coated with makjang elements and there are cliches here and there but gaaad, I still love this drama. I just finished episode 9 and I already watched episode 10 even without complete subtitles on viki. Hehe ^^

At first, I was rooting for Jae Ha-Joon Young. I’m a sucker of childhood sweethearts and I want first love (even if it’s a puppy love) to be the last one but as the story develops, I find Do Yoon more compatible with Joon Young. So now, I proudly declare that I already shifted ship! LOL 😀 The ending of episode 10 left me stunned! Gosh! The last scene was so unexpected it took my breath away . . .

Hi Purple Lee, welcome – the more the merrier!

I’m about to watch ep 10. I see the dad’s here and they’ve already started playing with the memory thing, which might be too early in the story cos 32 eps is a lot. I hate it when they stretch the plot thin and then bring in absurd plotlines, making the drama drag and i feel this ship just might be headed in that direction.

The relationship between In Joo and Jae Ha i don’t buy it, its not convincing. They should have just just said they are good friends, but that she loves him and he loves her (we all know he doesn’t) – a romantic relationship between them is as real as a unicorn. The actors have no chemistry, its like the writers want us to go along with it just cos that’s how the story is but i feel/see nothing

Also started watching when the sub was 69% done but had to stop myself, now i can’t wait to see what happens at the end.

Oh Purple Lee…now I’m hecka curious! But I’m being a good girl to not spoil myself with raw streaming! Must resist this urge! 😛

Yay! Welcome on board! Writers, make this couple happen!

You guys haven’t watched the latest episode yet? Do Yoon is a famous chef in France. He is under a different name so nobody knows his true identity, but it will be discovered soon, probably in the next episode.
