[Recap] Warrior Baek Dong Soo Ep. 5 & 6

Photobucket
With City Hunter ending next week (booooo!!), I’m latching my arms and legs around this baby. Hope it will deliver adrenaline to the final months of summer vacation for me.

Episode 5 had me tearing non-stop for the death of a hero. Episode 6 sheds some light into the love triangle between Ji, Chun, and Gwang Taek. I’m not really bother by the age difference because Ji’s flawless grace matches well with the older men.

Listen: “Hey Buddy” OST Part 1

At the face of elimination, Dong Soo gives up, he refuses to abandon a friend to learn martial arts. Finding the whole thing unfair, Cho Rip asks Chief Jang Dae Pyo for ten days, promising to succeed. Dong Soo continues to leave until Yeo Woon knocks his head with a rock, calling him a “coward” for quitting. That does the trick in keeping Dong Soo. Babo!

Photobucket
The boys are trained the following days with Yeo Woon wiping Dong Soo on the floor in all competitions. In one of the races, Lee Sam, a scrawny boy who has been sick the night before, passes away causing an emotional breakdown in Dong Soo.

Later that night, Dong Soo lashes out on Yeo Woo, and Cho Rip keeps count that he has lost 17 rounds straight.

PhotobucketPhotobucket
It’s a little less than a month but Sa Mo Ajusshi misses his little brat Dong Soo and insists that Crown Prince should visit Warrior Camp (so that he can tag along). Crown Prince Sado is no less eager to meet his savior. And again, Hong Dae Joo’s man, Bu Gwan, eavedrops and immediately informs his boss. Hong Dae Joo asks the assistance of Hoksa Chorong Assassins.

PhotobucketPhotobucket
Dong Soo and Sa Mo’s face lights up in the presence of each other. So cute these two!!

Photobucket
At Chong Am temple, Yoo So Kang retrieves the Northern Expedition Book of War. He presents it to his daughter Yoo Ji Sun but the house is attacked by masked men led by filthy In and lady Ji. Yoo So Kang gets stabbed in the back but he, Ji Sun, and another body guard manage to escape.

PhotobucketPhotobucket
Simultaneously, Chun and his men attack warrior camp. Yeo Woon greets Chun, and STEPS aside! NOOO! Chief Dae Pyo confronts Chun while Sa Mo ajusshi takes the kids away. Sa Mo looks solemnly at his comrade, “I don’t wish to collect your corpse. Be careful!”

PhotobucketPhotobucket
Then the Crown Prince makes an agonizing decision to help a falling Dae Pyo, he pulls out his sword. Oh Yea! Just as quickly, Im Soo Woong grabs the unsheathed sword with his bare hand stopping the Crown Prince’s interference. This is so hard to watch. Someone save Dae Pyo Ajusshi!!

PhotobucketPhotobucket
Dong Soo who is running away with the other kids doesn’t see Yeo Woon and rushes back to find him. Right in time, he helps Dae Pyo stabs Chun. Enraged about the possible scarring on his body, Chun slices Dong Soo, however, he only breaks the jade necklace in half. Yeo Woon sees this and immediately runs in to shield Dong Soo. YAY!! I’m so proud of you Yeo Woon! You love him! You cherish him!

PhotobucketPhotobucket
Chun kicks Yeo Woon to the side and teaches Dong Soo how to kill properly with a sword. You either slice the throat or pierce through the heart. He then demonstrates it by stabbing Dong Soo on the side, avoiding the internal organs. Turning to Dae Pyo, he stabs him through the heart and I wail like a baby.

Photobucket
Yoo So Kang, the guard, and Ji Sun return to Chong Am Temple. Knowing that his time is limited, Yoo So Kang drugs Ji Sun and draws bit and pieces of the burned pages of the book on her back. Dang, her fate is sealed.

PhotobucketPhotobucket
Guardianship falls in the hands of Crown Prince Sado in the future years.

PhotobucketPhotobucket
After burying good friend Dae Pyo, Sa Mo takes the remaining kids to the mountains and train them. Season changes and now they’re adults with Dong Soo still carrying the silly persona. I have to say, Cho Rip looks like a grandpa, there’s no one younger to take up that role?!

Photobucket
Another test is thrown at them, those who pass get to graduate and leave the mountain. Dong Soo, Yeo Woon, and Cho Rip all develop immunity to the fish venom and is granted diploma. I kid! Looks like they’re keeping the bromance levels relatively low. hee!

Photobucket
Waiting for them in in his butcher stall is Sa Mo, Dae Pyo’s wife and daughter. What an appropriate profession Sa Mo!

Photobucket
Sa Mo gives them their first official task. They must escort a Qing monk (Samini = female monk) to Chong Am Temple safely. Along with the monk is Yoo Ji Sun. While Dong Soo looks at her, she glances at the beautiful Yeo Woon. Dang, all the girls are smitten with Yeo Woon and his hair!

PhotobucketPhotobucket
Hiding behind a big rock is a group of Mountain Bandits, led by Hwang Jin Ju! Hey! Dimple Pie! Yeo Woon senses danger and shoots an arrow in that direction to test the response. Not to be outdone in her expertise, Jin Ju returns his favor with an arrow, alerting her whole crew.

In episode 6, we take a few steps back chronologically, before the attack.

PhotobucketPhotobucket
Yoo Ji Sun is actually returning from her trip to the Qing Dynastry. Acting like an inspector, she confirms that the Northern Expedition Book of War is still valuable, but tells the Prince about her doubts that they should wait longer. Crown Prince sends her to Chong Am temple while he returns to the court.

Photobucket
In the forest, Chun and Ji await for news of Sword Saint Kim Gwang Taek. Reports show that he’s gone missing again. Ji then visits Hunter Hwang and confirms that Hwang Jin Ju is her daughter with Kim Gwang Taek.

PhotobucketPhotobucket
Cut back to the attack – seeing that they’re outnumbered, Yeo Woon leads Cho Rip away from the fight, leaving Dong Soo to deal with Jin Ju, who is wearing a mask. She calls him a kid and he spits back about her shameful profession – stealing from others. She still has her eyes on the big catch (Ji Sun’s carriage) and gives up the bantering with Dong Soo.

Photobucket
The carriage suddenly comes to a halt, giving Yeo Woon the chance to take on the bandits. Ji Sun looks at him, impressed.

Photobucket
In the palace, the Qing missionary questions the King about Crown Prince’s suspicious behavior at the borders. Why is the number of soldiers surrounding the border ten times more than the one guarding in the capitol? Out of public eye, the King criticizes Crown Prince and leaves no room to hear his explanation.

PhotobucketPhotobucket
With the number of bandits increasing, Yeo Woon takes Ji Sun on his horse and speeds off. Dong Soo catches up and demands a duel with Jin Ju. It just so happens that Sword Saint Kim Gwang Taek passes by and teaches the fellow bandits a lesson, using only a name tag as his weapon. Jin Ju and Dong Soo look at him agape. Knowing her full ability, Jin Ju chases after Yeo Woon while Dong Soo pesters Kim Gwang Taek about his techniques.

Photobucket
Yeo Woon tells Ji Sun to hide behind while he fights with the bandits. She obediently follows and when his back is in danger, she shoots an arrow, efficiently striking the man.

PhotobucketPhotobucket
What follows is an awesome almost-battle for the ladies as Jin Ju raises her bow as well. Both women aim at each other, no one’s willing to back down. Until Jin Ju hears a sound made by their maknae bandit, she postpones the fight and hops on her horse.

Photobucket
Dong Soo follows Kim Gwang Taek back to the place where he has lost baby Dong Soo. He challenges Hwang Taek to a duel and gets knocked on the head continuously. Ow! Ow! He screams like a little girl. Later, he and Cho Rip find Yeo Woon and Ji Sun, all thanks to the trained bird. Can I get that bird somewhere? It would be convenient to locate my brothers in their hideout.

PhotobucketPhotobucket
All night long, Dong Soo pampers Ji Sun, including taking off his shirt to keep her warm and getting herbs to heal her injured ankle. But Ji Sun only has eyes for Yeo Woon. She holds his hand and wraps a piece of clothing around his wound. Dong Soo looks on with indignant eyes.

PhotobucketPhotobucket
Hunter Hwang, who is actually the leader of a bandit, wishes that his only daughter Hwang Jin Ju would stop this bandit thing and behave like a proper lady. She scoffs at him and claps her hands happily knowing that the merchants have decided to stay at a local inn.

Photobucket
News report that Kim Gwang Taek has returned, causing a turmoil in Ji and a burning sensation in Chun as they recall their earlier days.

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket
Sword Saint and Chun were (and still are) in love with Ji. Chun allows them to leave but in the last minute, Ji decides to stay with Chun.

Alice: I honestly didn’t think Dae Pyo Ajusshi would die so early in the game. I was hoping for someone, anyone, to come to his rescue. His death serves as a motivation for Dong Soo to become stronger and more adamant in the path he chooses. With that, he’s going to undergo many ups and downs in order to become a righteous swordsman. I’m crossing my fingers that Yeo Woon would be by his side in the end.

Yoo Seung Ho is the perfect candidate for Yeo Woon (albeit looking so young), a sleeping volcano ready to erupt and cause mass destruction. His grim gazes and perfect bright smile is a deadly combination. I’m telling you, the bad boys and noble ladies are always getting the love calls around here. Hmphs.

Regarding the adult counterpart of Jin Ju, I did secretly hope for a more youthful-looking actress. However, Jin Ju is cuter the more you see her. Adult Ji Sun seems robotic when she recites the line, “I worry about your safety the most…” She’s bland to me right now and it’s frustrating to see all the guys wearing moony eyes at her!

My other complaint is the writer trying so hard to chug the romance between Yeo Woon and Ji Sun down my throat. I get it! No need for the slow motion and sneak glances.

I agree about the blandness of the female lead. I mean seriously.. why can't Jin Ju be the main girl!! She's AWESOME! *crosses fingers in hopes my wish comes true*
And I was quite shocked about the death but it is definitely a better motivation for Dong Soo than wanting to just be better for the sake of it!
    Thanks for the recap!

    You're welcome!

Yes, you and I both. Let's hope for Jin Ju and Dong Soo. They're great together.

I pray that one death is enough to shake and motivate Dong Soo. If the writer touches my other Ajusshi, I think we can't be friends anymore.

Thanks for the recap. Only one thing – Isn't it Kim Kwang Taek? Or Kim Gwang Taek, not Kim Hwang Taek, depending on how you choose to romanicize the spelling? I was confused for a second.

No, you're right! Gee! I thought I spelled it right all this time. Thanks for pointing it out! =)
