Zhang Zi Yi’s drama debut Monarch Industry with Zhou Yi Wei, Tony Yang, and Yuan Hong confirms airdate!

Emperor’s Conquest/Monarch Industry (上阳赋) is adapted from the novel written by Mei Yu Zhe and stars Zhang Zi Yi in her television debut! I know it’s a shocker that she never did a drama in her whole career until three years ago when this was filmed. The production remains so quiet and secretive until now. Then Boom. Airing. Lol. The story follows two intelligent people bound together by a political marriage that slowly morphs into an epic relationship of love, loyalty, and trust in their conquest of the world. Female cast is not to be joked around either – Kara Hui, Angie Chiu!

You can read the translated novel here (still in progress).

Airing 1/9 on youku!

Godfrey Gao’s last drama We Are All Alone with Qin Lan is set to air

Sometimes, I would see an image of Godfrey and my fingers would move to weibo to check what’s going with him, then I would realize he’s no longer with us. We Are All Alone (怪你过分美丽) is his last drama and it’s based on a novel written by Wei Zai. I thought it’s a little bit ironic how the drama is about actors and the entertainment circle. Our heroine played by Qin Lan is a strict and successful agent, while Godfrey is a lawyer. The trailers raise up a lot of interesting issues, especially roles that older actresses are limited to – involving the talented Kara Hui no less! It is a cutthroat occupation. You need the right combination of timing, luck, and hard work to shine and stay shining.

Airing 6/8.

Imperfect Love: Chinese remake of Japanese drama Mother with Zhou Xun and Kara Hui

Holy smokes! This is one hot tamales train! I didn’t watch the original Japanese drama Mother but have heard of numerous praises about it, spawning countless remakes from different countries. The latest one from China is Imperfect Love (不完美的她) with a line of acting powerhouses in Zhou Xun, Kara Hui, and Angie Chiu. The original story follows a substitute teacher in first grade who doesn’t really like kids. A particular little girl clings to the new teacher, awakening her maternal instincts, as she realizes the child is subjected to abuse at home. Taking matters into her own hand, our teacher decides to take the poor girl away and start a new life together.

Have you watched the original or remakes from other countries?

Set to air 3/27.

Ariel Lin, Kara Hui, and Chen Xiao as The Mysterious Family

As previously mentioned in one of the C-News batches: Ariel Lin, Kara Hui, and Chen Xiao were invited to film a horror thrilling suspense movie last December (filming wrapped up in February.) The Mysterious Family is directed by a Korean director, Park Yu Hwan (Memento Mori) and revolves around a murder and the confusing dynamics of the family with Ariel playing the high school daughter (??!!!), Chen Xiao as the son, Kara as the mother, and Jiang Wu as the dad. Miao Miao, a carefree and bright-eyed student, encounters a night of brutal attack that changes everything about her routine life.
