Synopsis: The drama is adapted from Tong Hua‘s novel published in 2015. Our female lead is a 26-year old woman who lives quite a lonely life. With her parents divorced, her stepmother and step bro hate her, she becomes a sensitive and mature lady, independent and practical in her thinking. Moving away from the busy city life, she moves to small cottage in the island. She has no time for daydream of a romantic love and often questions herself why she falls for the hero with a mysterious background. She is uncertain about his status, his money, and his love for her. Our hero is a merman, a mystical creature only spoke of in legends. While he’s the boss of the sea, he has lived for a very long time. He has stepped foot on land before, formed friendships, and eventually witnessed their aging bodies become white ashes. What’s left of them is only memories, photos, paintings – all are good stories to tell on a quiet night. He stands tall through time. Seeing too much, understanding too much, and feeling too much, he’s now a jaded merman. They meet for the first time when he’s injured and she finds him unconscious at her doorstep. Living under the same roof, she intends to have him do housework (LOL) but he displays no sense of physical labor. HEHE. Using his special powers and astute intelligence, he helps her overcome many obstacles and feelings are naturally developed. Of course, trouble comes knocking at their door when her prized possession – a magical pearl, causes her to be in the crossfire of forces she knows nothing about. To save her, our hero has to sacrifice his life. Dun, Dun, Dun. [Mixture between the novel and the drama scripts.] [Credit: Kappy]

Just watched Ep. 1, Feng shao feng is dreamy in his first appearance. Haden is beautiful to look at. Likable characters, the only irritating thing is Hadens dubbed voice. Omg. So annoying!!

So far so good! I’m not a huge fan of Feng Shao Feng’s initial look with the long flowy hair, but I do like his cleaned up image. I also really like how he deadpan says everything and frustrates all the humans lol. (Also Kappy, where are you reading the book? I wanna check it out)

Hi, just found your website by chance while looking the this drama, and I’m so glad I did!
I just wanted to ask if you have any idea about the ending of novel? Is it happy (with both of them ending up together) or a sad one?
I hope it’s okay to ask for spoilers here. If not, I’m sorry.
    Thanks.

Hi! I actually didn’t read the ending of the novel… so am not sure if it’s sad or happy yet. Drama adaptations are not known for keeping true to the novel, keep that in mind and don’t be too sad! 🙂

Not sure if I could post this, I don’t know how to hide spoilers….

From the audiobooks, the novel has an open ending…. It’s a happy one, if you are referring to them ending up together. On the other hand, somehow I feel it’s a sad ending, if we refer them to fairy tale of “happily ever after”.

@Kappy That’s what I’m counting on! A lot of people are saying that’s it’s going to end sad, but you know, I’m hoping it doesn’t. *Fingers Crossed* ?

@Qtian I always consider the leads ending up together, the happily-ever-after ending. Kinda silly, I guess? So they do end up together? That’s great, then. I hope they show that in the drama. That’ll be great. Also, could you please tell me what you refer to as ‘happily ever after’, I’m just trying to get a clearer picture. ?

        Thanks for replying, guys!

Here’s the real spoilers on the novel…..

They got married. Shen Luo even talked to Violet on the possibility of having babies with Wu Ju Lan. 🙂 But there is no further story on their baby mermans / mermaids.

As expected, Wu Ju Lan did not take back the spiritual pearl, so we know he won’t live long…. That’s the not “happily ever after ending” that I was referring to….

I don’t know why there’s no reply option your last post, so I’ll reply to this one instead.
        Thank you for replying.
I won’t consider it a happily-ever-after. I thought maybe they find some way for Wu Juan to live on or something. But if we just know that he’s going to die, that’s not the ending I was hoping for, but well, what can you do, right?
This will be more of a bittersweet ending. *sniff*
Thank you again, for the spoilers ?

Hi Tanya Singh, there’s a limit to thread comment, or else the page would look weird with one-word sentence all the way down when it gets too many responses. Lol.

What do you think?
