Wallace Huo to romance Ni Ni in romcom 28-Year-Old Minor

Now, aren’t they a visually stunning couple? Looks like Wallace Huo isn’t in a rush to make a drama comeback as he just attended the opening ceremony for a new movie today. Chinese title 28岁未成年 which can be translated into 28-Year-Old Minor. I just find it funny that you guys were fiercely discussing about the concept of connections in the entertainment world and then we have this movie right after. Based on a novel of the same name, the director is Zhang Mo and she’s…. famous director Zhang Yi Mou‘s daughter. He has directed great hits like Under the Hawthorn Tree, House of Flying Daggers, and the upcoming The Great Wall. He’ll be playing the role of a producer in his daughter’s directorial debut.

My opinion of this matter… connections help get your foot in the door, but how long your foot can stay in that door depends on your talents.

Poster of the novel… Perfect BODY? BABY? What is it?!!

28-Year-Old Minor has a fun synopsis. Our 28-year-old heroine (Ni Ni) is successful at work but unhappy in marriage. Her husband (Wallace Huo) is always cold to her. Then one day something strange happens after she swallowed a piece of chocolate, transporting her memories back to her 17-year-old self, before she meets her husband. Their relationship begins to change but this is also an opportunity for them to fall in love again from scratch.

Ma Su
is also in the movie. She looks really pretty in the green jacket below.

Since Ni Ni wasn’t at the opening ceremony, have some pictures of the lady.

My question is… does she retain any of the memories of her adult life? I mean, wouldn’t you freak out thinking you’re 17 and there’s a strange man next to your bed? LOL. (Stop having naughty thoughts!) If anyone has read the novel, please fill me in.

Can I say it? Ni Ni stole one of Zhang Peng Peng’s dresses 😉

Wow, what’s up with the obsession of time traveling to our teenage selves? I feel like that’s a trend these days in dramas and now movies.

First it was the slew of “youth” movies now traveling back to our youthful years to mend broken relationships and whatnot. And it’s always the leading lady that gets a second chance. Why can’t it be the leading man, I wonder? (Or maybe there are stories with the leading man getting the opportunity but obviously I have lost track of similar releases. Lol.)

Wallace is definitely doing a lot of movies these days. Good for him!

Ni Ni is gorgeous as always.

That’s one predictable problem with Chinese dramas. a time-travel, spy, youth themed drama becomes a big hit and a dozen copying the same theme will soon follow.

The story is eerily similar to an old kdrama called 18 vs. 29. In that drama, the female lead gets into a car accident (not biting chocolate…btw haha) and reverts into her 18 years old self. Her 18 year old self actually dislikes her husband during that time and struggles to cope that she is now 29 years old. Her husband is a famous actor and there has been some fallouts between them since she thinks he cheating with his co-star before her “amnesia” state. Eventually, both fall in love with each other again.
I’m sure it’s the same plot device used in lots of dramas and movies, but just want to point out.
Does this sound familiar? Siwon was in it too.

Btw, Zhang Yimou is so huge.I remembered I took a Chinese film class and the whole week we just watched and analyzed his films. Good luck to his daughter, she has expectations to fill! 🙂

The article above says this is based on a novel of the same name. Wonder what year the novel was written and when was ’18 vs 29′ made.

It does sound familiar. Funny thing is both projects are based on internet novels!

The book was published in 2011…..so… Lol. No fighting chance there of being unique and original.

@aj, totally agree. One big hit that breaks the mold, and a new mold is created and a slew of same-things come along. Anyways, lately I’ve been getting more into Chinese movies and not just dramas. Especially since there are now so many well-known actors/actresses that I like, or at least am familiar with, that are going through movie-heavy periods. Not too interested in the premise, but the couple! Beautiful beautiful OTP. Wallace isn’t really a great actor from what I’ve seen lately, but he’s by no means horrible. I mean, sometimes with horrible roles and one-off awful actings, but generally speaking, he’s not all bad. Can’t help that despite his poor performances as of late, I rather like him regardless. Just like with LYF and William, can’t help but like them despite the numerous flaws. Can’t all be perfect like Hu Ge 😀 (jk, well am I really just kidding?)

And Ni Ni. Sigh. Always so flawlessly beautiful! She’s absolutely stunning and gorgeous. Haven’t personally seen her acting, but from the trailer of Bride Wars last year, she seems to be doing pretty well. Anyways, interesting in that they’re starting as a married couple and not just boyfriend-girlfriend. I think that lends a different sort of weight to the premise of the story.

The thing with Wallace is I believe he is a good actor. He just isn’t consistent. He’ll be really good in one and then turn up a decent performance in the next. I was very much impressed by his performance in Battle of Changsha. Like, is this really Wallace Huo? When did he become this good? And then he was just ok in Journey of Flower, then I saw The Great Protector and he was excellent in that one as well, and then saw Swordman and was like, WTH?

I enjoyed him in Love Me, If You Dare, but apparently some Mandarin speaking fans didn’t. Something about line-delivery. Of course I don’t speak the language so that didn’t bother me.

I read an interview where Wallace says he’s only got movies on his plate for the foreseeable future.

He claims he’s only doing roles that he’s never done before…but this seems like a classic rom com to me, there’s no way in hell that is stretching any boundaries for him…

I’m on the fence about Ni Ni. I agree with the recent commentator who said she seems more high fashion than acting these days. Her wide set eyes actually make her look a little spacy to me. But I agree the movie premise is more interesting than some of the others in recent memory…

He’s never said he’s going to only accept roles he’s never done before. He did say he want to try new roles, and this surely doesn’t seem like one. But give him a couple of years, he’s new to the movie scene. He’s not going to get award-winning, boundary-stretching roles right off the back. Right now is more like accepting roles that come his way and building connection first.

After NiNi’s impressive performance in The Flowers of War, none of her other movies have added anything to her acting profile. Bride War was messy and The Fleet of Time was a huge disappointment. If her streak continues, she might be remember as a one-hit wonder.

Nini spends too much time on fashion shoots. Maybe she ought to use that time in acting classes and be more selective about film projects. Otherwise, she’ll only be remembered as a cover model and Fung Xiaofeng’s exGF.

Oh…and I totally thought to myself that the only reason these A-list actors and actresses are doing the movie at all is because they want to be owed a favor from Zhang Yimou.

I think it’s supposed to say “perfect lady.” At least, that’s the only thing that makes some sort of sense. But fail on the cursive “L” haha.

Would’ve been nice if it was made into a drama lol
