Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

A beautiful start to my day! Lol. I can go to work with a dancing heart. Boss, a happy employee is coming your way! =D You see? I’m very easy to please… Anyway, with Zhao Li Ying on board, the whole main cast is finally assembled. Looks like she knows she won’t live long cause on her weibo, she said, “For/Because of Love, I can die without regret.” We know, girl, we know. xD

Stills:

Zhao Li Ying as Bi Yao. The sleeping beauty whose body disappears by the end of the drama. The pictures are placed in order of my preference. Shimo, nope! I never like bangs! xD She looks so elegant in the first two. Ahh ~

Surprise surprise, I think Tong Meng Shi is Shi Tou from Grade One Freshman the reality show with the experimental Shanghai Academy class thing (like his actual nickname was Shi Tou).

I wanna see PROPER character stills for Xiaofan / Guili, dammit! Not half-assed makeup mirror shots or side-face only shots wearing rough civilian garb! Hell, Li Yifeng’s weibo has better shots of himself as XF / GL than the official weibo!

I saw some sneak shots of his Gui Li and he looks SO MUCH MORE badass than as Xiaofan, although Xiaofan’s hair / costume / etc. as a student of Qingyun looks quite nice too (very Xian!).

There are SO MANY characters in the novel, like 50+ characters at least cuz there are so many Sects and stuff.

The bad guys look really cool in the stills. Yeah because of scheduling, Zhang Luyi won’t be in this drama (cuz he’s busy filming another project), but the guy they got here is pretty badass looking and is an experienced actor so I’m cool with that 🙂 The other “bad guys” look really cool too 🙂

The masked lady in purple and the fox lady look badass 🙂

LOL I guess beauty really is in the eye of the beholder … probably because I don’t mind bangs as long as they’re styled well. Liying looks more mature without the bangs but I think she looks younger and cuter with the bangs … I guess it doesn’t matter as long as she looks nice, and TBH the styling, makeup, and costumes in this drama is better than those of Hua Qiangu!

HQG absolutely CAKED their whole cast with layers and layers of war paint (it does not deserve to be called makeup because there’s at least half a centimeter of stuff on their faces). I said it before I will say it ad nauseum – the HQG war paint is excessive and is an injustice to an already good-looking cast!

I’m not sure about Xiao Ding being the screenwriter for this series because what I heard is that Xiao Ding sold the rights to HR and HR got their own screenwriters to adapt the novel. I mean, Xiao Ding can comment and offer opinions to HR, but whether they’d be listened to is another story.

From what news is already out so far, there are MAJOR changes to the story, such as adding extra storylines and scenes for other characters and prolonging Biyao’s storyline, cutting stuff from Xueqi (the original female lead)’s story and changing major stuff about her character (WTF I can’t with this shit), cutting stuff from Guili’s story (which will forever piss me off because GODDAMMIT THE BEST PART OF THE ENTIRE EFFING NOVEL IS GUILI’S STORYLINE, which actually takes up 2/3 of the whole novel!)…

Anyway, as a novel fan I’ll watch this drama anyway cuz it looks so pretty and all and I really like the story. I just hope they won’t rape the novel like they did with Lost Tomb (which ended up being BANNED in China anyway, did you hear? SARFT made all internet broadcasting channels pull Lost Tomb offline, along with Wuxin and Go Princess Go)

    • 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

Xiaofan is like Anakin for the first 1/3 of the novel and then turns into badass Darth Vader for the rest of the story LOL

    • 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

I did hear, Shimo. I gave up hope for creative ideas in Cdramas right about then. What are they trying to do? Curb the creativity out of writers and kids growing up? Everything will start to look, feel, and read the same! No growth? No outside the box thinking? No imagination? Oh China!

      • 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

IKR? The point of creative media like movies, dramas, books, etc. is CREATIVITY and IMAGINATION! People complain that Cdramas are all the same and that we’re seeing recycled plots over and over again, and yes, scriptwriters are bleh but the main reason is that there are SO MANY restrictions on what they’re allowed to write that they have no choice but to rehash the same old formula again and again just so that their dramas can be aired! I’m not defending lousy scriptwriters cuz there are many of them and they don’t deserve to be called scriptwriters, but with all the restrictions and everything it’s pretty hard to have breakthroughs.

I understand SARFT should ban stuff that are insulting to Chinese culture/history/people and stuff that will send out the wrong message to young children, etc., but there are some things that are way overboard like the banning of Wuxin and Lost Tomb, etc. I’m pissed off at the mess that is the Lost Tomb drama but the fact is that they changed SO MUCH stuff of the novel just to please SARFT, including all the propaganda stuff drama Wu Xie kept spewing out of his mouth (which earned Li Yifeng much hate from fans and audiences alike). Wuxin is pretty harmless and all there is is some supernatural elements but that stuff doesn’t inspire children to do bad things or anything so I dunno why it got banned either.

      • 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

And TBH even Go Princess Go is a pretty harmless piece of fun. Just because it deals with a male character turning into a girl and falling for another guy, doesn’t exactly mean it’s amoral. I for one really loved our main character Zhang Pengpeng because he/she was such a funny badass whose dealing with her body and sexuality changes was one of the highlights of the whole series and awesome character transformation! I really loved how gutsy she was and her awesome character (and great performance by Zhang Tian Ai) is definitely a desperately needed breath of fresh air from all the helpless air-headed damsels in distress that overrun most of Cdramas!

      • 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

I mean, even though TVB produces lousy dramas all the time, at least they allow room for creativity! There’s so much more freedom of expression in HK, etc. which is great thing cuz then we audiences can have more variety and our future generations will also benefit. I firmly believe that creativity is something that should be encouraged and the tough restrictions set by SARFT saddens me. I know there are things that should be banned (I understand that) but I think sometimes they’re totally overboard, over-conservative, and stifling creativity. Variety is the spice of life, they say!

    • 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

It was actually the fact that they took the show off the web that prompted me to finally watch it. I couldn’t take the ridiculous costumes at first, but after it got such good reviews from everyone (I think even Yuan Hong had a weibo post about it at one point) AND got pulled by the censors, I figured it must be worth watching. 🙂

I marathoned through all 35 episodes in a single weekend. Was it entertaining? YES. Will I watch it again? Probably not. Would I have watched a sequel? Yes, but now that the censors have stepped in, any sequel they make would probably be completely different and therefore not worth watching (I never finished BBJQ, even though I LOVED BBJX). But all in all, a good use of a weekend in my book. 🙂 The emperor is now my epitome of 穿衣显瘦脱衣有肉!

      • 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

LOL I feel the same about Go Princess Go too. It’s SO WACKY and so senseless but I ignored all logic just to enjoy the ride! I also marathoned the series in one go and it was pretty funny. I probably won’t rewatch it nor will I watch the sequel, but at least those 35 eps really entertained me and helped me relax. Also for relatively new and inexperienced actors, the cast did a decent job and I especially liked Zhang Tian Ai’s performance.

The emperor dude has a small and slender build but he’s very fit and toned, which is good! 🙂

Are you talking about LYF’s outfit in black with the long hair? Yeah I saw that…looks REALLY good. Good things it’s not all like his cooking servant attire. I’m sick of his half-up do with the two stray wisps. That’s like his whole look in Gu Jian Qi Tan. Thank god they’re taking advantage of his natural good looks and are working with that instead of trying to force an overdone style that doesn’t make him look his best. Can you post some of his Guili pics?

      • 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

There aren’t any Guili pics except for the one he posted on weibo and the sneak shot pic I linked to in an earlier comment to you (in another post). This is why everyone (his fans, novel fans, etc.) are so pissed off at HR for delaying Guili’s character posters, because everyone wants to see those pics the most!

His servant attire + wispy hair look is good for his Xiaofan character (because he’s supposed to look ordinary and plain, etc.) but when he transforms to Darth Vader (Guili), he’s supposed to be a badass boss looking dude cuz by then he’s become the 2nd in command of the Evil Sect and one of the most powerful and deadly assassins in the story (he becomes the most powerful by the end of the book after he takes the Zhuxian sword and defeats Gui Wang with it)

I for one much prefer his Guili look just cuz it’s way more badass and it actually looks nicer on LYF anyway 🙂

      • 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

But yes the Guili look is the one with the black/red robes and long flowing black hair 🙂

It’s time for me to start taking language classes! I love the stills! This is exciting news!

Lol. My brain cells will be fried! I remember sitting in Chinese Class with my brothers… no motivation. xD

Now if they teach based on dramas, I will PASS with flying colors!

  4. 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

Just here to get my fix of Liying and Yang Zi. Haven’t watched anything from LYF other than Lost Tomb and that’s certainly not a good example. 😛

Liying’s bangs look way much better here than they did before.

    • 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

Don’t you get the sense that they photoshopped her face more severely for the bangs photo though?I think the bangs make her face look more round, and then they overcompensated so that her face would still look more oval/thin in the still/promo.

      • 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

I get what you mean cuz the Photoshop is pretty obvious but according to the sneak onset photos and Xiao Ding’s weibo, the styling team did change her bangs to make it lighter and wispier, so until I see the finished drama I won’t write off her bangs yet.

Also I understand why they gave her bangs because it fits much more with how Biyao is portrayed in the novel. I think Liying looks great either way though, with or without bangs (provided they are light and wispy)

      • 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

Yep, they did Photoshop her face, but at least her bangs don’t look as heavy as they did before. So hopefully even without being heavily PSed she will still look better than she initially did.

Although yes it is kind of sad that they had to PS her face to fit the bangs. They’re letting the bangs rock her instead her rocking the bangs…

        • 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

I saw some newer sneak shots of Liying with bangs and I honestly think they don’t look that bad (yes, even without the PS). I mean, Liying is a pretty girl and I really like the fact her face is more round (unlike all the sharp pointy V-line faces that EVERYONE seems to have in C-ent these days). I think her rounder face is a breath of fresh air and makes her look cuter and younger than pointy-faced actresses. With her face shape, if bangs are styled nicely they will look quite nice (but NOT the heavy Spock-like bangs that they gave her before) on her…

        • 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

I mean, so many actors and actresses of C-ent these days V-shapes their face with cosmetic surgery to the point where people are starting to all look the same to me. We have the previous generations of beautiful people with DIFFERENT faces (Ruby Lin, Zhao Wei, etc.) unlike the newest generation of starlets who almost ALL have pointy faces!

So yeah, people like Liying and LYF who don’t have pointy faces are instantly more recognizable to me…

  5. 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

Kap, I’m with you on the bangs. I’m usually fine with Liying and bangs, and the new bangs here are much improved from the previous one. But the non-bangs style are even better IMO, she looks really beautiful. With the bangs she looks awfully younger, like she’s barely a teen. I dunno what’s required from the novel though.

I like Li Yifeng and Qin Junjie’s styling. And Yang Zi is so pretty! Tang Ji Mei somehow reminds me of Liu Tao in NiF. But the Demon Lord — he looks babyfaced. I actually think Edward Zhang will be better, but the actor probably will give us a nice surprise. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him before, but maybe I was wrong.

    • 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

Edward Zhang is a total badass if he plays a villain cuz he’s such an awesome actor but alas he has another project he had to film so he can’t be in this drama. But I guess you can still watch him in Sparrow! 🙂

  6. 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

Bi Yao is young girl and got character is very energetic and arrogant that’s way this character is so fit to Liying. There’s true she is very gorgeous. However, according the novel was read i like character of Lu Xue Qi more then but that just from the novel i don’t know for the drama may change and make it’s different from the novel…lol…

    • 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

From the novel I liked Xueqi the most but alas they’re changing everything for the drama adaptation *sigh*

If anything at least Liying is cute so at least her Biyao will be nice to look at 🙂

I’m actually quite looking forward to Yang Zi’s Xueqi cuz I wanna see how she will play this awesome character (provided they don’t screw up her character with the script)

      • 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

Yes…Shimo, i also want to see Yang Zi play with Xueqi’s character how she act, talk…… including Xueqi’s real face not dream during that time i read the novel i always imagined that face how it’s so cool. I was very crazy about that character why it’s so great character now can’t wait….lol…..

        • 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

I totally agree with you! It’s always nice to see what we imagined translated onscreen! It’s very different to just what is written on paper. I for one am looking forward to this drama (just hope they don’t change too much stuff) cuz I wanna see the big battles and the characters and stuff.

Yang Zi is a good actress so I’m very much looking forward to her Xueqi 🙂

      • 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

Hey guys, can you talk more about what you like about Xueqi, like what makes her awesome (I personally don’t mind spoilers…). I’ve never read the book, so just wanted to know more about the character. 😀 I trust your guys’s judgement.

        • 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

If I remember correctly, Xueqi is like Xiaofan’s “senior sister” (in the Allied “Good Guys” Sects). Xiaofan respects her and there was this tournament of sorts and Xiaofan faced off against her. He was actually more powerful than she was but he sort of let her win (her Masters were all rejoicing by this point so she couldn’t say anything), but Xueqi knew he was going easy on her and so she remembered him for that ever since.

They went through life + death adventures together and when Xiaofan got punished by his Masters, Xueqi always tries to stick up for him and stuff. After Xiaofan turned into Guili and became a badass demon assassin for 10 years, Xueqi was always thinking of him and concerned about him even though they’re now on opposite sides. She refused the arranged marriage to this guy in the “Good Guys” Sects (because of her feelings for Xiaofan) to the anger of her Masters. Xueqi encourages Xiaofan when he feels down and they went through more adventures together and eventually she confesses her feelings to him and he was very surprised but he returns her feelings and get together at the end.

As for Xueqi’s character, she’s principled and a bit aloof. She keeps her feelings inside and cares for Xiaofan quietly without proclaiming her feelings (only confessing much later on cuz of the situation).

It’s been a VERY long time since I read the books so I can’t remember too many details without going back to the books LOL

        • 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

Also take what I say with a grain of salt cuz the scriptwriters are making MASSIVE changes to the story. Leaked news say that they’re making Biyao the lead (confirmed) and changing the story to focus on Biyao and adding lots more scenes for her (confirmed). Xueqi is demoted to the supporting female instead (confirmed).

Leaked filming schedules and scene details also confirmed many additional scenes for Biyao and massive changes to Xueqi’s character background *SIGH*

Biyao falls into a coma/dies at 1/3 of the book, but the script is extending her stay and there is gonna be an extra epilogue (especially for the drama) that apparently revives her and pairs her up with Xiaofan at the end (this hasn’t been confirmed yet but that’s what all the goss is saying)…

Now you know why the Xueqi fans are pissed.

        • 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

Another thing is that Biyao had a one-sided love for Xiaofan and always wanted him to betray his own Sect to follow her into the Evil Sect instead. Xiaofan refuses every time until the Evil Sect goes to massacre the Qingyun Sect, and in the battle the truth about Xiaofan’s past is revealed.

Xiaofan reels in shock and basically finds out his life has been a lie, and the evil artefact that he has carried with him since a young boy reacts and controls his mind. Biyao jumps out and eggs the mind-controlled filled with hate/anger/bloodlust Xiaofan on, proclaiming that all the Good Guys (Qingyun Sect, etc.) are BAD and that Xiaofan should kill them all and follow her to the Evil Sect instead.

By then the Evil Sect has already killed many of the Qingyun / Good Sect students and people. Biyao eggs Xiaofan on and tries to get him to help destroy the Good Sects and so the most powerful Immortal of the Allied Good Sects gets the Zhuxian Sword (which hurts the wielder as well) to try to stop Xiaofan (because Xiaofan has been completely controlled by the EVIL BLOODLUST artefact and will become an indiscriminate killer).

Biyao defends Xiaofan and falls into the coma and Xiaofan is riddled with guilt (he’s only 16 at this point so yeah) and goes to the Evil Sect and becomes their assassin for like years while looking for ways to cure Biyao. Xiaofan’s conscience gnaws at him all the time because he’s become something he never wants to become but he feels massive guilt for Biyao (even though she was never his girlfriend or anything at the time when she jumped in front of the Zhuxian sword for him – he saw her as a good friend while she wanted to be his girlfriend) so he’s been torn by that for like 10 years.

It’s not until Biyao properly died that Xiaofan lets go of his guilt and lives for himself instead of for someone else.

        • 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

So you can see why the Guili portion of the story takes up 2/3 because it’s supposed to span like 10 years and stuff

  7. 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

Would someone mind give me spoiler? So basically after Bi Yao died, she stays dead? She won’t be resurrected? lf that is, then l won’t watch after she dies T____T my poor Liying….

    • 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

Just like Kappy wrote, she falls into a coma and doesnt make an appearance again. Male lead marries female lead and live on. Its Li Yings fault for signing up. Blame her!!

      • 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

They made Liying the lead for the drama and are changing the story to fit around her instead so nobody knows how the script will turn out.

Rumors are that they’re even breaking up the original couple of the novel (Xiaofan/Xueqi) and changing the pairings to favor Biyao instead

      • 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

because Liying will not sign up if she’s not the lead

        • 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

Aww that sounds kind of..unfriendly on Liying’s part.

        • 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

          It’s the truth *shrug*

      • 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

They officially announced that Liying is the lead and everything so it’s not really rumors anymore

      • 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

Wew….like Shimokuren said, maybe she’ll be resurrected by the male lead and they’ll live happily ever after? l feel somewhat happy and disappointed at the same time. Because if they change the story that much, why bother adapting from the novel anyway?

And what’s with the “Liying has to be the lead”? She played some guest appearance here and there. l guess the company doesn’t want her to be such pitiful like in the novel huh?

Just some random policy. The male lead just live happily ever after with the female lead and forgot about Bi Yao’s sacrifice for him? How wonderful! l bet Bi You must be cursing him in the afterlife. LOL

        • 45 thoughts on “Official Posters of Zhao Li Ying in The Legend of Chusen

The male lead never forgot about Biyao and agonized over her for over a decade (and he always remembered her for the rest of his life) while doing things he didn’t want to do just so that he could try to find a way to wake her up.

The point is that Biyao couldn’t be woken from the coma anyway because she was effectively killed when she took that hit for him … which wouldn’t have happened in the first place IF she didn’t try to egg him on to kill his own Sect while he was mind-controlled.

If we really wanna get down to it, Biyao and her people went to massacre the Sects first, and in defending the Sects the male lead found out the truth about his past and the shock made him fall under the mind control of the evil artefact he always carried with him. Biyao saw this as a chance to finally get the male lead to abandon his own Sect and follow her instead. The Sect leader then attacked them with the Zhuxian sword and Biyao took the hit for Xiaofan.

lets put something into perspectives here, the managing team behind each actress is always gonna fight for the best benefits of their person. of course, they know well the popularity and worth of their persons as well.

bi yao’s character is SET UP to gain sympathy and the production crew aims at the angle to create the romance. you guys honestly think that Angelababy signed up to play second fiddle to Yang Zi? Whose name isn’t even known in the wuxia world? this is her first time wandering into this genre after all. the production team isn’t banking on that hence they have angelababy as bi yao. yes yun zhong ge was a flop but that doesn’t affect her popularity much since she has her movie career to back her up.

they were gonna alter the story for Bi yao anyway for Angelababy since the character is created that way to gain sympathy. NOW if Bi Yao were to be given to a lesser actress (not acting wise, purely popularity here), the story would be different again.

it’s all a game of popularity and the production should be blamed for all the hula hula started by the fans. they don’t have a backbone to stick with what they wanted. they were desperately backpedaling when angelababy suddenly can’t film anymore. the whole thing really make li ying look bad when we don’t know how the discussion went behind closed doors.

but based on li ying’s first weibo message, her character might be extended but will still die. why else would she state that line? “for love, can die without regrets”

I agree with Frea. Management firms and agents are there to protect the interest of their actors and actresses. It’s all business and purely strategic business. I don’t think we should blame ZLY or any actresses or actors for accepting a role. I am sure that prominent actors like Wallace Huo and Hu Ge would be the same. I like ZLY a lot and have seen all her recent dramas and will continue to do so. I don’t know YangZi but she seemed like a good actress. I will support them both as I think that for all their effort and motivation, they deserved true support from us all. Let’s not forget that this is their job. Personally I am very much looking forward to this drama. I am a sucker for all wuxia costume dramas. I read some very negative comments about TJOF but I found it entertaining. I did not like the ending but it was great and entertaining. Will I watch it again? Yes!!! I watched it 3 times.
