Voyage Passport: Kap’s First Vacation Across Sea! [Planning]

Happy Mother’s Day drifters! I love my mum. She’s the best unless she’s in her drama zone. =P

And right now Kap’s mom is not happy that her little bird is going on a voyage!

YEP! Next Friday I’ll be leaving for a 7-day cruise (5/15-5/22)! My first vacation using my own money! How shameful! Lol.

I have equal amounts of terror and excitement for this trip, to be completely honest. One, I cannot swim. Two, I hate the idea of being surrounded by large body of waters. I’m going with one of my best friends and I don’t know how she convinced me to leave earth the ground I’m standing on. When I told my family, everyone is wary of cruises. Sigh!

Mom: “Bring a life jacket.”

2nd Bro: “Well, it was nice meeting you.” XD

Little Bro: “Can I play on your desktop while you’re gone?” Noooooooo, little one.

Anyways, to you frequent travelers, please give me some tips and advices to survive have fun! What to pack, what not to pack. Or funny things/poses you’d like to see. I’ll post pictures when I come back!

Our dear Kaptain A: Wow! Have a happy vacation, forget eveything or everybody at home (lol) and enjoy that freedom and luxury of going away . . . just be yourself and savor all those days and nights and international foods; dance and sing, too . . Tener unas vacaciones felices, olvidarse de todo y disfrutar de los momentos. Have a happy, happy . . . . . times!

Congrats little bird! Flee with your flock of besties. It’ll be amazing.

Honestly, I haven’t gone on a cruise before. Had opportunities but I suppose I’m waiting for the big Wow factor to take an offer. No matter which mode of travel you take, I recommend you stash a travel size – deoderizer (in the travel/trial items section at your local brick-n-mortar store), toilet seat covers and compact toilet papers (in the camping section). You’ll thank me one day. LOL! One set will do; great during emergencies. Even if you don’t need to use ’em in your cabin, once you dock, and roam abouts, you have vague ideas how other parts of the world’s WCs (aka restrooms) are managed.

One of you gonna bring dramamine, right? Designate a person to bring a pack, is good enough. Another can bring a pack of salty plum candy (Asian brand, white or red, I prefer white). So, now you have one drug-induced and one natural remedy for motion sickness, if any.^ ^” Even though I haven’t gone on a cruise, I’ve gone on many boat excursions during my marine biology studies and/or leisure short sea trips.

Those are part of core essentials. Lemme know what else bothers you. I try to ease your nerves.

P.S. I know how you mumzy feels. My mom still pulls the guilt trip on me every time I flock away from the nest. Haha~

P.S.S. Your bros are so funny. I think one doesn’t deserve a souvenir. Which? Hmm~ Kiikii~

LOL! The toilet needs! I definitely need them. My friend said I was crazy for wanting to pack toilet tissues. XD

What bothers me is the idea of drowning…Ahh. I have been watching videos that teach people how to make a floating device with their pants on youtube. So cool!

      My brothers….what to bring back…

I’ll try to queue up some posts for AVV in the mean time. But next week’s monday discussion post for We Are In Love and Run Brother, can you take the lead Miss Keane? 😉

It’s a well known cruise liner, right? Don’t worry too much on that. Try and relax to enjoy your vaca. It’s not like Titantic, today’s cruise liners are well equipped.

Actually, depending on how far you’ll be out to sea, the boyancy of sea water should be forgiving in your favor. If you manage to put on a life jacket securely, in case you go down in the water, remind yourself to let your body relax – relaxing your mind and body is key – then your life jacket will do its work to pull you back up to the surface. You may drink some salty water and swallow plankton but you’ll survive. Stay safe and clear away from typhoons/tsunamis.

I suggest you try practicing in the shallow end of a pool, if you can spare the time and have access to a pool. Be practical, virtual aid is not gonna save a life.^ ^; The more relaxed you keep the better you can float on your back and wait for rescue. I can’t believe you can’t swim. It should be a pre-requisite in high school to pass a swimming test. That should be enforced on a national scale. Gees, saves more lives that way. I taught my sister how to swim, and doing the same for my nieces and nephews. I’m CPR certified ever since I took a mandated kinesiology course in uni. =) I have to renew my certification every 2 yrs but I think it’s worth the trouble.

Yeah, you have the right track mind. Camping gear is great being compact size. The toilet seat covers pack is thin and the size of sandwich/snack size ziplock bag. The toilet paper is compact without the toilet roll, actually, it’s the size of a toilet roll and no bigger. So it’s perfect to fit in a woman’s bag/purse. I also recommend travel size wet naps like Wet Ones or Kleenex brands (I personally don’t like Cottonelle brand). Any girl gonna be on her rag while travelling? Huggies brand wipes , also in the travel/trial section, are great to get out blood stains on anything like your favorite pair of jeans or skirt; that stuff is amazing.

One of my cousins use to work as a booking agent for cruises, so he’d invite me to many free trips but I always refuse his kind gestures. He knows the in-n-outs like which cruise liner is new or old, etc. You can google your ship’s profile and see the ratings on it beforehand.

Uhmmm, I suppose I can take the lead for once. *squints eyes at Kappy*

        • 27 thoughts on “Voyage Passport: Kap’s First Vacation Across Sea! [Planning]

I’m CPR certified since it’s a requirement in the medical professions. Maybe if they make swimming a mandatory task, I’d scoop up the courage. I think those Sharks movies ruined me.

My evil brothers all know how to swim because their schools now have a swimming pool and are pretty strict, unlike mine years ago, where we would just float and splash water. Such a good auntie you are, Missy!

Whoa, I did not know those wipes can remove blood stains! INTERESTING!! You should accept your cousin’s offer one of these days and enjoy the sea.

Hey, if you want, we can take turns doing the discussion post, I do not mind sharing the workload! =D

        • 27 thoughts on “Voyage Passport: Kap’s First Vacation Across Sea! [Planning]

Oh well, my cousin used to work there. Now, I don’t get offerings from him anymore. He now is his own boss doing something else entirely. I have someone else, my cousin’s ex-coworker, trying to win me over with invites but I’ve still declined these cruises. Not yet Wow-ed at the itinerary.

Sharks!?! I can tell ya stories about my Jaws nightmares when I was little, but still, I learned how to swim in high school. My school was pretty strict. We had to pass a swimming test in order to latter graduate.

I was amazed too, when I found out about multi-purposeful Huggies. A bunch of my gal pals got together for a baby shower one day, one of the girls leaked on the hostess’ favorite recliner. Everyone was shocked, however the hostess was really calm, she went to get Huggies wipes, and used it to clean the stained microsuede recliner. The blood stain ALL came off. I was totally in awe. =) I’ve tested that technique on my favorite grey pencil skirt. Kirkland/Costco brand doesn’t work as good. I haven’t tried Pampers brand. LOL!

RE: discussion post, I said, “…once”. *squints eyes again at Kappy* You’re gonna regret asking me to do this. I’m not as entertaining as you are in those areas. *squinty eyes keeps attacking Kappy* LOL!

        • 27 thoughts on “Voyage Passport: Kap’s First Vacation Across Sea! [Planning]

I still can’t imagine having all those crazy stuff on a ship! A huge piece of metal underneath it all! I’ll let you know once I’m back whether it’s worth it!

You just made me a HUGE fan of Huggies. The hostess is such a graceful lady.

Did I misunderstand your squinty eyes? I totally saw this…

        • 27 thoughts on “Voyage Passport: Kap’s First Vacation Across Sea! [Planning]

“Bring a life jacket”–Omg your mother sounds so adorable xD At least she didn’t request that you always wear the life jacket xD Although if you’re that afraid of falling/drowning, you might do that anyway xD Post funny pictures when you get back! 8′]

    • 27 thoughts on “Voyage Passport: Kap’s First Vacation Across Sea! [Planning]

She wanted to buy those floaty things triathlon athletes wear when they get cramps underwater. But it’s so expensive and I said, let’s think positive now~

My friend can’t swim either so we’re meant for each other. LOL.

      • 27 thoughts on “Voyage Passport: Kap’s First Vacation Across Sea! [Planning]

…..oh. Now I don’t know whether to be super impressed or afraid for the both of you. xD How did she manage to convince you when she can’t swim either? xDDDD omg <3

No, but I'm sure you guys will be fine…

        Really!

        Positive!

I’m a firm believer she got me drunk and said those crazy things, “YES! RIGHT? WE WILL SWIM BY THE SHARKS?” ……… “YES.”…. “What are sharks?

  4. 27 thoughts on “Voyage Passport: Kap’s First Vacation Across Sea! [Planning]

Hey 🙂 I dont know if this counts as advice but I saw this year a really cool video by clothesencounters (youtube channel) about a cruise she took, you might want to check that out ^^ Have fun

    • 27 thoughts on “Voyage Passport: Kap’s First Vacation Across Sea! [Planning]

It’s amazing what cruise ships offer as entertainment nowadays. I saw some videos and was mesmerized.

      Thanks ikitten! ^_v

  6. 27 thoughts on “Voyage Passport: Kap’s First Vacation Across Sea! [Planning]

Never been on a cruise for the same reasons that you listed. I fly whenever and wherever possible.

    Have a great vacation, Kappy!

    • 27 thoughts on “Voyage Passport: Kap’s First Vacation Across Sea! [Planning]

I’m such a certified chicken, I rarely fly. Have only flown once so far. Lol.

a cruise! for 7 days!! too long!!

my uncle and aunt went on several…heres some tips: the lower your room is on board, the better the toilet flushes! its a huge metal piece so just pin all your flyers and offers on the door….magnetic force at work…pick your room location in the middle of the ship to avoid waves and extreme motion…

you should do a video log!!! i wanna see!! never been on one!!

and have fun! do some crazy funny poses. 🙂

    • 27 thoughts on “Voyage Passport: Kap’s First Vacation Across Sea! [Planning]

I think our room is right in the middle of the ship. No balcony view for us! 🙁

Video log…I’ll see what I can do! Thanks!

  8. 27 thoughts on “Voyage Passport: Kap’s First Vacation Across Sea! [Planning]

Whoa, I come aboard pretty late (pun intended), but anyway, wish you a smooth and fun cruise.

Never exactly went on a cruise, but I did travel by ship once, years ago, an inter-island trip which took three days. If you easily get motion sick, bring some related medicines (and of course your personal medication), sun block. I would probably bring a few cups of instant noodle and chili sauce, just in case the menu of the day isn’t too appetizing. And I’d stack in as many disposable panties, much practical.

No need to worry too much about not being able to swim but make sure where the lifejackets are. If possible, you can bring one yourself. Just remember, it’s easier to float in salty water than in white water.

    • 27 thoughts on “Voyage Passport: Kap’s First Vacation Across Sea! [Planning]

Never too late, lenje! I still have time to pack.

That’s a genius idea! One can never go wrong packing instant noodles. Thanks for the tips and reminder! ^^

Yo Kappy, so excited for you *hug*

I would say pack diarrhea meds, pepto-bismol, tums or other such tummy ache relievers. Also, take comfortable shoes~ It can get pretty chilly on the seas, so one multi-purpose cozy sweater/parka might not be a bad idea.

I’m not too sure about how things work on ships (I’ve only been on day-cruises on ferries before XD) but when I fly/have vacations, I try to take a small bottle of dry shampoo with me. If you can’t buy any, you can just make some~ I have dark hair, so my dry shampoo consists of baby powder and cocoa. If you have light hair, you can just use baby powder. Take some on your fingertips and rub into the greasy parts of your scalp~ Grease gone XD (Also you can double the dark hair dry shampoo as bronzer if need be).

Tiny jar of vaseline is good for any part of your body, and makes a good chapstick too~

Pack something with SPF, baconised Kappy might not be such a good idea.

Also, chuck a few books from your to-read pile onto your tablet/phone.. always good in case of bad weather.

    And take many photos~~

Now go practice floating at your local pool XD

    • 27 thoughts on “Voyage Passport: Kap’s First Vacation Across Sea! [Planning]

This is the first time I’ve heard of dry shampoo. Learning so many new things in this post. I do have a bottle of baby powder to aid my sweaty palms, always! 😀

I loaded my Kindle with many books to read on a rainy day. Can never go wrong with that!

I can float in one spot. =D Thanks Nuttie!

  10. 27 thoughts on “Voyage Passport: Kap’s First Vacation Across Sea! [Planning]

wow how did i miss this! anhwho congrats! it’ll be fun! no worries as modern ships you won’t feel the ocean as much. however, you’ll sleep like a baby since the slow rocking! and take advantage of the enormous amount of good food!

have a safe trip and wanna hear about it with pics when ya get back! you can share *ahem* in our secret meeting place if ya don’t share pics here!
