Hu Bing Qing becomes Taekwondo expert with Yang Yang and Chen Xiang in new modern drama

Yay! New faces (well, relatively new)! A drama that is not corporate-related! The theme is Taekwondo! You guys and gals better watch out because all the characters are fighters in their own right. Who will come out on top? I’m excited. Not so excited about the prospect of having three guys fall for one girl though… Not only can the heroine fight, she’s gotta have everyone’s love too? Who’s gonna mess with her? That’s just cruel. Lol. It’s an in-house production by HunanTv, and yes, it’s a drama adaptation of a novel called Xuan Feng Shao Nv written by Ming Xiao Xi. There’s no official English title yet so for now…let’s call it… Taekwondo Girl? Or Tornado Girl suggested by Google?

Quick Synopsis: The story tells the journey of our heroine who has a fondness for Taekwondo ever since she was little. After her parents died in a tragic car accident, our heroine (Hu Bing Qing) is adopted and raised by a Master Taekwondo whose skills and reputation have been defamed by his enemies. Honest, righteous, and determined to succeed, she gradually transforms from a weed into a professional Taekwondo fighter. On her path to hone her exceptional talents, our heroine is loved and supported by three men.

A huge thanks to zlidia for translating the character descriptions below! Do not take out of AVV please! 🙂

Hu Bing Qing as the female lead Bai Cao: Age ~ 16-18, when the story begins, she’s a sophomore in high school, and then she eventually goes into finance/business in college. She’s very easy to tease and essentially a push-over, but on matters of principle, she won’t budge an inch. Once she’s made a decision on something, everything else is irrelevant, nothing will keep her from reaching her goal. When she was 6, her parents died in a fire, and her dad’s friend, Qu Xiang Nan, took her home to raise as his own. At first, she refused to speak, but then one day, she became interested in martial arts and asked to learn it for herself. Qu Xiang Nan became her teacher; she was very serious about learning, even if she was only mediocre in certain natural abilities. After a while, Qu Xiang Nan became the world champion and Bai Cao was also able to compete in the certification competitions. But right at this moment, a rumor spread that Qu Xiang Nan positively tested for doping in the world championship, which not only negated his win, but also banned him from partaking in competitions. Not only could he not compete, he also could not take students, and Bai Cao refused to study with any other teacher, so she chose to give up martial arts training. Ten years later, Bai Cao uncovers the truth about the doping and is accepted into Song Bai academy, beginning her training again. Under Ruo Bai, Bai Cao is able to reach the highest levels of skill at an alarming speed. It is also at Song Bai that she grows up and encounters new highs and lows of love, friendship, and family…

Yang Yang as Ruo Bai: Age ~ 18-20; when the story begins, he’s an English department student. He’s got a cold demeanor, but his heart is full of emotions, regardless of whether it’s to martial arts or to Bai Cao, he’s got the strongest of feelings. He’s been interested in marital arts since he was a child; he once saw a fight between Ting Hao and Chu Yuan, which forever places Chu Yuan on a pedestal as his idol. When Chu Yuan retired, he was practically more upset than Chu Yuan himself. He doesn’t understand how Chu Yuan could give up on his martial arts so easily. While Ruo Bai devotes himself to training, he can never reach the level of Chu Yuan. He knows that based on his own ability, he is unlikely to become a world champion, so when he realizes that Bai Cao has the natural talent, he devotes himself entirely to training her, hoping that she could make a name for herself and for Song Bai. Initially, he refuses to believe he has developed feelings for Bai Cao, but when Chu Yuan and Ting Hao come into the mix, he realizes his feelings for Bai Cao. The two go through numerous obstacles/trials, and their feelings eventually become more deep and profound.

Chen Xiang as Fang Ting Hao: Age ~18-20; studying abroad in England at the time the story begins. He is a bright ray of sunshine in Bai Cao’s life. He appears selfish and arrogant, but in reality, he has a childish and idealistic side. When he was little, he watched his mother fight against Chu Yuan’s mother in a competition, which rendered Fang’s mother in a comatose state. So his whole life, he carries a hatred for Song Bai Academy and sees Chu Yuan as his foe. He trains bitterly to be able to defeat him. When Chu Yuan leaves the competition scene, he’s very upset, even more so when his little sister falls in love with Chu Yuan. In a twist of fate, he meets Bai Cao, and at the time, doesn’t know she’s a student at Song Bai. Bai Cao is unlike any other girls in his life, and he only wants to make her laugh. In the beginning, Bai Cao thinks of him as a pain but that eventually changes. While Bai Cao is a little kid in front of Ruo Bai, an idol-chaser in front of Chu Yuan, but in front of Ting Hao, she is able to be her real self. They become the best of playmates. All the sweetness breaks apart when Ting Hao learns that she’s representing Song Bai in a competition. From them on, Ting Hao makes life difficult for her. But Bai Cao would not bow down, reminding him of his mother when she was training in her youth. He finds himself falling in love with her, in love with her stubborn personality and her refusal to give up her dreams. When his sister later strikes out at Bai Cao in her jealousy fits, he’s the one who steps forward to protect her. Aww, my heart!

Bai Jing Ting as Chu Yuan: Age ~ 20-22, a senior in western medicine at the story’s start. He is pure, clean, like a diamond. In his youth, he was a star in the marital arts world. He never gave much thought to why he had such natural talents, but then one day he stumbled upon the truth of his family and saw the harm his birth father did. He begins to see what he might be like, in the years to come, if he spent every second in training, hurting those who love him. He doesn’t want this to become his future, so to the shock of the world, he retires right after taking the junior mater title. Chu Yuan has two loves: medicine and martial arts. His one regret is that he never got the chance to reunite with his birth father, Master Yun Yue. Once Bai Cao enters Song Bai, he notices her. He gradually sees a different side to martial arts, where one can fight and train for one’s family and loved ones. One can leave competition for love, but one can also join the battle out of love. They get closer to each other over time and he falls for her strong spirit. Though they never become a couple, she helps him resolve his issues with his father, which in turn gives him the opportunity to enter the world of martial arts competition again.

His character sounds like Hua Ze Lei, the gentle type. A total new face as this is only his third acting job. He was in Sohu’s Fleet of Time.

Hard to imagine this gentle guy as a champion. Lol.

This is Zhao Yuan Yuan as Ting Hao’s little sister, Fang Ting Yi, who is in love with Chu Yuan. Her purity and goodness take a drastic turn when her love is unrequited. She becomes a little crazy and tries to hurt Bai Cao. Aww man! I like this actress. She was in Duke of Mount Deer 2014 and Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils 2013.

The Cast Stretching and Practicing their Fighting Stances:

  • Directed by Cheng Zhi Chao (Legend of Fragrance, Beauties of the Emperor), Taekwondo Girl has a broadcast date on June 28th.
  • Any spoilers on the novel, book readers? Do you like the cast? How’s the story?
  • I’m just happy we have a different theme for a modern drama. It has been so boring with CEOs and large corporations.

    thanks ladies for the translation!

like you kappy, im so happy it’s a theme other than first love and huge companies! a refreshing theme indeed!

chen xiang’s character seems like a meaty role for him, while the other two are more cookie-cutter. yang yang looks good but boy hes not the type to go flaunt his body, its so pale….. and what’s little yang guo doing in the shower tub!! LOL

the female lead looks like a small breeze can blow her away….

    • 21 thoughts on “Hu Bing Qing becomes Taekwondo expert with Yang Yang and Chen Xiang in new modern drama

Yep, they all look like the wind can blow them away. 😛

Hopefully, his pictures will give you the energy to pass those projects and exams, V!

Thank you!!! I’m sure they will~~ 8’DDD Chen Xiang is so dashing all the time *3*

  3. 21 thoughts on “Hu Bing Qing becomes Taekwondo expert with Yang Yang and Chen Xiang in new modern drama

I am excited to see Yang Yang in a modern drama, is he in any of the modern drama? Coz I am watching him in THE FOUR but I would love to see him in a modern drama. He’s relatively new, so in a yr or two, he will have more projects on his resume.

The main girl looks like Ariel Lin in some of the pics.

    • 21 thoughts on “Hu Bing Qing becomes Taekwondo expert with Yang Yang and Chen Xiang in new modern drama

On the top of my head, only this and The Lost Tomb. Double dose of Yang Yang in June! 🙂

      She does!

      • 21 thoughts on “Hu Bing Qing becomes Taekwondo expert with Yang Yang and Chen Xiang in new modern drama

I just hope The Lost Tomb lives up to the expectation. Li YiFeng is the male lead and Tang Yan is in it as well. Since it’s gonna be season by season, I m seeing similarity to American TV shows. Tang Yan is literally everywhere this year, she’s doing tons of projects this year in both movies and dramas.

Chinese celebrities take a lot of projects even when they are very popular unlike Korean celebrities. Most Korean celebrities don’t really pick a new work once they hit certain fame in their life.

      • 21 thoughts on “Hu Bing Qing becomes Taekwondo expert with Yang Yang and Chen Xiang in new modern drama

I needed Lost Tomb to be on air like yesterday. The novels are bloody awesome and the cast is pretty good too. I wanna see Li Yifeng and Yang Yang breathe life into their characters (they are the soul of the series, really). Urgh the wait is horrible 🙁

And I heard that it’ll be like American shows with 1 episode per week (WTF) … 12 episodes per season, that’s like 3 months just to see 1 small section of the whole story (The Lost Tomb has like 8 parts)…

I honestly would’ve preferred they make the whole Lost Tomb series in one go but then that’d probably be too many episodes LOL

      • 21 thoughts on “Hu Bing Qing becomes Taekwondo expert with Yang Yang and Chen Xiang in new modern drama

Lol, Korean celebrities literally live by making CFs. They make millions with just 2/3 commercials.

Chinese celebrities have to stay in the scene because China’s market is filled with new and upcoming faces, ready to take anyone’s place! hehe.

Shimo, in one go would be nice! If Empress of China can go over 90 episodes with great ratings, TLT can do it too! Or maybe China just likes their palace series a bit too much. Lol.

        • 21 thoughts on “Hu Bing Qing becomes Taekwondo expert with Yang Yang and Chen Xiang in new modern drama

IKR? Empress of China was a terrible series – the only thing good about it were the costumes and pretty faces. The really awesome 80+ episode series like All Men Are Brothers and Three Kingdoms had a strong story with many interesting characters to keep it going.

I would’ve preferred they made The Lost Tomb all at once, but then the budget would be too expensive and I understand why they had to split it – they have to make some of the investment money back first and then keep going with the next novels. Like how they did Harry Potter in parts cuz there were 7 books and with Lost Tomb there are 9 (eighth part is split into 2 books). LOL it’d be fun to see the actors age as the series progress (like what happened with the Harry Potter kids)

Well, I doubt the older actors would change their look much … it’s the young ones like Li Yifeng and Yang Yang who’d be the most obvious (but Li Yifeng is babyfaced anyway so it doesn’t matter, and Yang Yang is so young now I think he’d look more handsome as he matures)

I’m glad the C-actors always have new projects in the works because I always like to see them on my screen more often 😀

        • 21 thoughts on “Hu Bing Qing becomes Taekwondo expert with Yang Yang and Chen Xiang in new modern drama

It’s nice in Harry Potter because their hormones kicked in as they grew up, but with puppy faces like Li Yi Feng and Yang Yang, I’m having a hard time imagine them a day older even in 8 years! XD

        • 21 thoughts on “Hu Bing Qing becomes Taekwondo expert with Yang Yang and Chen Xiang in new modern drama

          I agree! 🙂

I saw some recent photos of Li Yifeng (I think it was some candid shots of him at an airport or something) and the dude’s supposed to be 28 but looks more like he’s 20! Not just you – I’m also having a hard time imagining LYF and Yang Yang looking older … although I reckon they’re probably the types to age really well…

  4. 21 thoughts on “Hu Bing Qing becomes Taekwondo expert with Yang Yang and Chen Xiang in new modern drama

I’m with you, I’m quite excited to have a different theme for a drama. Yang Yang looks way mature here, even compared to The Four. I still feel like a perv talking about him, as I’m probably almost old enough to be his mom LOL.

    • 21 thoughts on “Hu Bing Qing becomes Taekwondo expert with Yang Yang and Chen Xiang in new modern drama

Jail bait material. Lol. They even add in Leo, just in case.

  5. 21 thoughts on “Hu Bing Qing becomes Taekwondo expert with Yang Yang and Chen Xiang in new modern drama

I like the second female lead, she looks like she can kick butts, the female lead looks generic, nothing special.

Im liking Chen Xiangs character description!! Meaty!!

    • 21 thoughts on “Hu Bing Qing becomes Taekwondo expert with Yang Yang and Chen Xiang in new modern drama

Yuan Yuan has a sharp edge to her face, which is refreshing from the batch of cute actresses we have. 🙂

  6. 21 thoughts on “Hu Bing Qing becomes Taekwondo expert with Yang Yang and Chen Xiang in new modern drama

    Yay for new faces!

This is definitely Yang Yang’s breakthrough year.

  7. 21 thoughts on “Hu Bing Qing becomes Taekwondo expert with Yang Yang and Chen Xiang in new modern drama

with Yang Yang in it, I can digest up everything even though it have a poor storyline. Sorry, I’ve been blinded by his cute look. Hahha. Look forward to it more because for once, it’s a modern story without those awkward HD wuxia element~~

    • 21 thoughts on “Hu Bing Qing becomes Taekwondo expert with Yang Yang and Chen Xiang in new modern drama

Yes, you are so blinded. XD Did you see him on Happy Camp yet? So cute!

  8. 21 thoughts on “Hu Bing Qing becomes Taekwondo expert with Yang Yang and Chen Xiang in new modern drama

Oooo seems really interesting. I’m really liking Yang Yang in all those reality shows he’s been doing recently (Happy Camp, Hua Er Yu Shao Nian the travel show). He seems so sweet. I wanted to start watching The Four for him, but Janine Chang isn’t really my thing, so I couldn’t stand watching that, even though literally I love the main male cast (come on Zhang Han, Yang Yang, AND William Chan?). Therefore I’m really waiting for Yang Yang’s other series this year.

Anyways, please please book readers, any spoilers on who the end couple will be? I obviously love Yang Yang, but at the same time, from the character description, I think she seems to be the most suitable with Chen Xiang’s character, so idk.
