***142nd COMPLETED PROJECT!!***

Kappy: After reading the request section and carefully considering my workload, I have decided to take on this series as a side project. Meaning I’ll upload in my free time and will not be rushed.

My prediction is that the download links will die pretty quickly because of the small fanbase. So please do me a favor and promote this post so more fans can download and keep the links alive longer!

As for eng subs, there are problems at Viki so I’m not sure if and when it’ll be resolved. If anyone wants to sub or can provide subs, please do not hesitate to help out the community. 🙂

Lastly, feel free to add quick reviews in the comment section, persuading others to give this series a try!

The viki subs are still available on their servers, but because of the video issue, probably won’t be any further progress from ep23 onwards though.

A further note, just glancing at the viki subs, they were timed to a different cut as well.

How is this drama? I’ve never liked watching war dramas and I especially don’t like the ones with the Japanese invading China but I’m tempted to watch it coz of Wallace.

The drama is worth watching. I’m usually not a fan of war dramas either but two things lead to to it, lolz… One I saw my dad watching it and got hooked on the bits and pieces I saw while I walked past and two Wallace Huo in it! hehe…..
All the characters in the drama were played out by very good actors, I felt all of them did a really good job and though Wallace was the main lead I think the other actors complimented and at times outshone him in their performances. In saying that I love his character in the series very much, he suited and played Gu Qing Ming very well.
I thinks its also a war drama that focuses on people and how they deal with their relationships during the war more than a “war” drama. So not excessively bloody or over the top selling of patriotism to country and all the stuff. Added bonus, it’s not a super sad ending where in most war dramas one of the main leads DIE and the one main lead left say stuff like at least they had each other and were together for a bit and it’s all that counts!! I mean yes I like to see faithful couples and endless love but at the end of the day I just want a happy ending out of a crappy ordeal. Give me my rainbow at the end of the storm!! (Hence why I usually hate war dramas, haha…. too many tragic love stories and deaths!!!), haha…..
So my crazy rant aside, what I’m saying is I highly recommend this series, definitely give it a go. 🙂

Thank you for your reply! Glad to know that it is not such a sad ending. I’m convinced to give it a try now.

Awww poor Em! You actually finished the whole series!! So instead of killing the OTP, they killed everybody else? Oh boy, I think I need to watch this series when I’m in some sort of tragic mood. X(

This is a classic drama, IMO. Unforgettable. I still tear listening to the theme song, I will remember you. Very well written and directed. Great acting. I would not have watched this drama looking at the title if not for Wallace. But it is not about war. It’s about the Hu family. The character were all well written, layer by layer. And by the time some of them die, it left an unspeakable sadness in my heart because I have grown to understand and appreciate all of them despite their faults. Wallace hardly speaks but watch his facial expressions. A face to behold and expressions to love. Andy, as a relatively newcomer is talented. Watch it if you are not immune to boxes of tissues for it’s heart wrenching toward the last few episodes. The beginning is quite hilarious. and I love every minute of brother-in-law antics in trying to bring fiesty Xiang Xiang and arrogant Gu together. Kudos to the director and novelist for this is, I believe, the first time the director tweaked the genre of the drama from fully historical to fiction and history. This makes the drama very watchable for the younger generation and those who are not fully into historical or war dramas. (There was a scene where the mother suffocated her own son so save the rest of the villagers because her son’s cries would have alerted the enemies and got themselves all killed. It was a fact. It happened during the war. )
