I guess if you’re a vampire, that’s a romantic line to start the first date.
So I went snooping around TVB forum and caught sight of this upcoming series, Still Have Time To Love You (還來得及再愛你) produced by TVB’s to-be rival network, HKTV. I was nodding my head until I read: Inspired by Twilight. LORDY. Stop right there. Hong Kong has great movies and dramas about vampires (remember those jumping ones? C’mon, join my old ship) so I have no idea why they must use teeny bopper Twilight as a source of inspiration. Except, we don’t have werewolves in here. The great thing is it’s billed for 10 episodes and promises to be sweet. About time someone kicks Tvb in the nuts and tell them to produce quality over quantity.
Guess who plays the ancient vampire with a jaded heart?
Danson Tang! Okay. I like him as a singer…but as an actor, I’ve never seen any of his work. His recent drama is Happy Dandelion, has anyone seen it? Good? Bad? Nyeh-Nyeh?
In here, he plays a vampire carrying an old scar. When he was still a human, a demon came to his village and killed his lover. He was rescued thanks to the bite of a vampire. From then on, he never cries for anyone, until he meets our bubbly heroine.
His leading lady is Michelle Wai. She’s fairly new with a few projects under her belt. Again, I don’t know her. However, from the trailer, she gives me Barbie Hsu‘s vibes. Watch and you’ll know. The long, black hair tied into a fallen pony tail? It’s Barbie’s signature look in Meteor Garden & Mars! The only difference is Michelle’s slightly darker complexion, which makes her look like a farmer in some scenes. Barbie is paler, like a princess who hasn’t worked a day in her life. 😛
Their first meeting. He’s racing with his friend and accidentally knocks over a log which crosses her motorbike.
He brings her to a hospital.
And they end up kissing. Just cuz.
Kidding. But the kiss does take place…later.

Danson, tsk-tsk… he hasn’t mastered Cantonese? He’s dubbed over. Oy! I’d really like to know more about his character, like how powerful he is to walk in daylight and why doesn’t he sparkle like Edward, lol, instead he looks more pale in the daytime to me. =p I know there were a few TWese dramas I’ve spotted him in, like Hana Kimi and I forgot the rest. I’m opposite of you, Batman, I recognize him as an actor (more natural than Wu Chun, lol) however I don’t pay any attention to him as a singer. He, somehow still gives off a conceited vibe through his acting though. Always had.
OMG-sh, I see it too! Michelle does give off Da S vibes. So, wait, does this mean one of Danson’s vampire powers can read her mind too? That’s no fun. At least, in Twilight, Edward can’t read Bella’s mind.
The CGI looks amateur. The part when Ter n’ Danson race off causing alarm cars to go off, that was dumb. Makes me wonder what kind of writing team came up with those cheesy and lame setups. I thought vampires like living in the shadows of the night, not like those who love causing scenes. Then again, I suppose that’s where Ter’s character steps in as the one who does want to cause trouble w/ his loud yellow Porsche and mannerism.
Ten (episodes) is a good number. Honestly, I’m not sure if I can handle more than that. I’m already bothered by Michelle’s Shan Cai-like annoying character. That took me less than 4 minutes, which was all of Michelle’s screen time in the last preview clip. Haha~
The worst that can happen is HKTV is forced to make this a youtube exclusive release. Which is not really a bad thing, right?

Looks like Danson is the quiet vampire but he somehow befriends a naughty, playful vampire to balance that off.
Michelle’s normal voice is fine, the problem starts when she speaks rapidly and her voice becomes grating and whiny! I like Barbie’s roles in MG & Mars, the series after that = forgettable. I actually adore Shan Cai….hehe. Granted, the character is annoying at times but her portrayal was realistic of a fighting weed on the street side. It wasn’t manga-ish like Makino or too cutesy in Geum Jan Di.
Not sure. I feel like HKTV’s thinking process is this: If we lose out on patience and release one drama on the web, then the enemy might look down on us and continue to push the edge in politics, which would ultimately results in us airing more dramas on youtube. A defeated battle = Loss of profits, and the actors might not be very happy.

I suppose ’cause freetv license = advertisement bundles. The money maker here. Using their contracted actors/actresses to star in ads keeps any celeb’s bank account happy.

I heard of this a year ago when HKTV was fighting for their rights for freetv licence. It has been a year since…. and I am still waiting. Has HKTV gottten their licence to air free and if so, when can we expect this drama to be available? Thanks.

Thanks, frea for pointing it out – I must have missed it. Danson speaks Cantonese pretty well but his Cantonese is highly accented; hence the decision to dub him.
A question: any of you sick of female characters that are portrayed as vulnerable and sometimes, ‘air headed’? Why can’t we have a female character who is strong and smart so that for once, we can all say that the lead man and lead female are well matched??

oh Aryael. Tell me about it!! OMG. they are everywhere in kdrama land. candy version, poor, deeply poor. lols. in cdrama, you would have scheming palace girls. in twdrama, the girls would be a bit ditzy too. hkdramas range pretty well, they have normal girls more often. lol.

Oh. Trust me Aryael. I get tired of them easily, hence my needs to get away from Kdramas for a period of time to watch other Asian dramas. Much or less the same description as Frea stated. Each country has their own version of sketchy heroines. But HKdrams do have more variety in that sense.
It’s quite twisted when you think of the female writers in the industry and yet they promote these types of poor, clumsy heroines. Just look at the majority of the Hong Sisters’ female lead characters and you’ll know what I mean…

Oh! I am glad that I am not the only one thinking that way. I am ditching KDramas at the moment. Been almost a year without venturing into KDramas, although I do read reviews etc to keep myself up to date with what’s happening in the KDrama world. I guess I am waiting for THE KDrama to get me out of my current situation. I do not know why korean writers like to depict their women in such a manner….maybe cultural? I liken KDramas to cotton candy – nice to look, nice to eat and you get a whole lot of them (which makes you happy)…..but once eaten too much, you get really sick of it; hence my current hiatus from KDramas.

I remember having a crush on Danson from… no, no, don’t laugh, It Started With A Kiss 2, where he plays a guy who has a crush on Joe Cheng’s character (ok, I know, ok, stop laughing!!)
I remember reading about this drama a long time back, when there was still some fuss about whether it was really going to be “inspired” by twilight, and whether Danson would take the role. I just hope it airs already… I will use my trusty ff button to move past the crap CGI and onto the good parts~
Michelle really does look like Da S! They can have a character with 3 sisters, Da S, Xiao S, and Weixing S XD And hey! I wub Shan Cai.. I mean, seeing all the crap she went through, the fact that she’s a well-adjusted and firm if somewhat quiet girl just points out to how awesome she is. Other people would buckle under those circumstances. Plus, it takes guts for someone to ask Zaizai to model for them *nods head sagely* But yeah, weakling girls make up a sadly huge percentage of females in dramas *sigh* I wish that could drastically change.. I mean, I don’t want superwoman, I just want someone on equal footing with the hero.

I laughed hard at farmer description that I had to check the preview. She do look like a farmer in some scenes, but she was two tones lighter at bed scene. 😀

i would really like to have Danson Tang ‘special silent power’. it feel really useful to silence anyone that want to talk nonsense.anticipating his drama for this year and of course he has to be the main character. all the drama i had seen,he always the supporting character. so need more drama with him as lead.
