The events that happened in episode 3 I could take but episode 4 was another level. I had to stop every minute to clear my eyes. So heartbreaking.

Episode 3 Recap:

Having collapsed after knowing the truth about his son-in-law, Choi Jun Mo, President Tae is being restrained in the hospital. The doctors tell him that he needs his son-in-law’s approval to get discharged. Wha?

Grandma Bong and Young Gyu’s best neighbor friend, Lee Myung Gyun, are drinking together. When Young Gyu comes in, Grandma Bong shoves him his clothes and demands that he sleeps in the same room with his wife, Mi Sook. After Young Gyu is out of the room, she bends down and asks Myung Gyun…to instruct Young Gyu what to do on his first wedding night.

Myung Gyun: “Do you remember what you did when you had Ma Ru?”
Young Gyu: *clasps a hand over his mouth* “Oh…I do!”
Myung Gyun: *laughs* “You remember? What did you do? hahaha.”
Young Gyu: “I remember I was so scared when she screamed!”
Myung Gyun: “Right?”
Young Gyu: “Yep, she screamed until Ma Ru was out!”

O.M.G This is so funny.

After their piano lesson, Dong Joo hands down his piano instrument to Little Mi Sook, she can keep it. She thanks him, bids goodbye, and hurries off. Dong Joo calls after her but she doesn’t hear him. He takes out the red magical pouch and aims it at her. She stops, and he exclaims, “Nice!” He formally introduces himself, “My name is Cha Dong Joo. What’s yours?” She doesn’t have a real name yet.

Little Mi Sook can’t sleep and asks Grandma Bong to come with her to the bathroom. Grandma refuses and on her way out, little Mi Sook meets Ma Ru. Afraid that she might let it all out, Ma Ru stands impatiently next to the door. Aw.

Not knowing what to do, Young Gyu resorts to dancing and singing, and is later joined by Little Mi Sook. Grandma Bong is exasperated. ha.

Using unknown methods, President Tae manages to get out of the hospital and heads home to write a letter. When he finishes, Choi Jun Mo arrives and rips the letter. I think you can guess the topic of this struggle? Choi Jun Mo wants to swallow the company while President Tae believes his grandson, Dong Joo, is the true owner.

With the intention to kill President Tae, Choi Jun Mo yanks the breathing tube and throws it away. This is when Jun Mo notices a third company. Dong Joo with his mouth wide open, is hanging on the ladder he used in the first episode to escape. President Tae uses his last breath to stop Jun Mo from getting Dong Joo but he fails.

HMH3
Once he’s outside the balcony, Jun Mo demands Dong Joo to come over. Freaked out, Dong Joo slips, his hand reaches out but Jun Mo’s hand is a second too late. Dong Joo falls, his head impacting with a rock. Choi Jun Mo screams and rushes downstairs where he bumps into Shin Ae.

PhotobucketPhotobucket
Meanwhile, Hyun Suk is still at the hospital looking for her father. When a bloody Dong Joo is wheeled in, she faints from the shock.

PhotobucketPhotobucket
Some time later, President Tae’s funeral is held. In times of grief, the husband and wife comfort each other. Shin Ae watches from the sideline and shakes her head at Choi Jun Mo’s alligator tears. Yuck!

Photobucket
With President Tae’s death, Choi Jun Mo asks Director Kang to take care of the inheritance. Shin Ae appears and tells Jun Mo she’s on his side. Now that he has everything, he should come back to HER. I don’t know about you guys but this woman freaks me out with her face and smile. BRRRRR.

PhotobucketPhotobucket
Unbeknown to them, Hyun Suk is listening to their conversation just right above. A flashback reveals more details about Shin Ae’s past. She was pregnant with Choi Jun Mo’s child (Ma Ru) before he decided to get back together with Hyun Suk. It wasn’t hard to enter Hyun Suk’s heart at the time because she was vulnerable after her husband’s death. Back to the present, Shin Ae’s demand is simple: “If you want to see your child, don’t ignore me. Your threats no longer carry its weight.”

I feel so bad for Hyun Suk. In the span of a day, she buries her father, grieves about her son’s injury, and witnesses her husband’s betrayal. Too much drama, drama!

Photobucket
While everything dark and ugly is happening in the rich household, the Bong family is enjoying every bit of happinesss. Mother Mi Sook is giving Grandma Bong a new perm while little Mi Sook and Young Gyu help. Ma Ru heads to school but rejects the lunch box made by his new step-mother.

PhotobucketPhotobucket
Little Mi Sook chases after him and busts his secret – his ear phone is NOT connected to any music player. HAHA. Oh…isn’t this Jin Guk’s trick from Dream High? She trails after Ma Ru like an adorable little sister nagging him to take the lunch box. SO CUTE this girl.

Photobucket
Looks like Hyun Suk has decided to keep quiet about her husband’s secret. She will wreak havoc later. Choi Jun Mo finally pieces the puzzle together and realizes that Ma Ju is his son.

Photobucket
True to their promise, little Mi Sook shows up to their piano lesson/date but Dong Joo is no where to be found. T_T She even prepares flowers. Mother Mi Sook is nearby and piggy-backs her home.

PhotobucketPhotobucket
While Ma Ru is washing his face with Grandma Bong, Little Mi Sook crouches down and asks Grandma to give her a name. Little Mi Sook suggests, “Bong Bu Ok” which means kitchen. This breaks a smile on Ma Ru’s face. Aw! He’s melting! When he asks, “Why do you talk so much?” She answers, “Because you don’t! I have to talk twice as much.” Things take on a different turn as Ma Ru’s watch breaks when little Mi Sook insists on seeing it.

PhotobucketPhotobucket
He lashes out at Young Gyu. Why do I have to live like this? What did I do? Why are you my father? Why is that deaf woman my mother? As he spills this out, Choi Jun Mo is watching in a distance.

Episode 4 Recap:

Photobucket
At the hospital, Shin Ae pretends to read to an unconscious Dong Joo. She doesn’t know that Hyun Suk now has the upper hand – she knows about Shin Ae’s relationship with her husband, Choi Jun Mo. Casually, Hyun Suk asks, “Is your child a boy or a girl?” Boy. She proceeds to ask his age to which Shin Ae avoids by stating “Now is not the time to know about me, Madam.”

Before heading to work at the factory, Mother Mi Sook buys a new watch for Ma Ru.  At home, Grandma Bong receives a phone from the factory, explaining that their workers, including Mother Mi Sook, have to work over time to finish a batch of new orders. Seeing that, Young Gyu and little Mi Sook pack her dinner and bring it there together.

Photobucket
At the factory, Mother Mi Sook smells a strange odor but she can’t project her voice to tell anyone. The machines are over heating and burst into flames. O.M.G…please don’t kill anyone..PLEASE!

The fire alarm alerts the whole factory and strings of people rush out. IN A MOMENT LIKE THIS, you don’t go back to your locker! Mother Mi Sook heads back to her locker..to get Ma Ru’s watch. Why do side characters, full-grown adults, always do the most illogical thing ever? YOU CAN BUY A WATCH AGAIN. You can’t, however, ask for a second chance to life. Someone, please shoot me.

Young Gyu and little Mi Sook search frantically in the crowd for Mother Mi Sook. Choi Jun Mo arrives at the scene. After struggling for a bit, little Mi Sook is free from the workers’ grasp and runs inside. Young Gyu, too, is right at her heels. Inside, they find mother Mi Sook cuddled up gasping for air. Here, little Mi Sook searches for the red pouch, hoping to get her mom’s attention. Interestingly, the scene flashes to the hospital where Dong Joo’s hand is holding the pouch but it falls to the ground. At the same time, a wall (what do you those things?) starts to descend, forever separating Mother Mi Sook from her loved ones. Can’t. Stop. Crying.

Photobucket
Photobucket
Grandma Bong is informed about the fire and rushes off with Ma Ru and the Lee family. At the hospital, Young Gyu and Little Mi Sook are soaked in smoke and tears. Mother Mi Sook pushes the doctor aside and instead holds hands with Young Gyu and her daughter, signaling the word “together”. Her death time is announced right when Grandma Bong and the folks arrive.

PhotobucketPhotobucket
Outside, the heartless demon Choi Jun Mo directs the manager to push the blame solely onto Mi Sook, who went back on her own accord.

Photobucket
At the police station, the manager blames Mi Sook for escalating the fire. He brings out the “proof” of why she went back. When the watch is brought out, Ma Ru sinks down to his chair, and swallows down a ball mixed of guilt and his over-the-board pride.

Shin Ae, having learned the news at the hospital heads to the police station, not knowing she is stalked by Hyun Suk. Choi Jun Mo asks the manager to talk to Ma Ru. Tell him to come and beg forgiveness, then his father won’t have to be sent to jail/mental institution. Ma Ru shakes in anger, the last time he met Choi Jun Mo, the man has put him down and labeled him as some sort of leeches. There’s no way in hell he’s going to ask for forgiveness. He strides outside, taking little Mi Sook with him.

PhotobucketPhotobucket
Outside, Ma Ru tells little Mi Sook to forget about dad and mother. Stubbornly, and rightfully so, little Mi Sook says she can’t leave, she wants to live with Young Gyu, her dad. Frustrated, Ma Ru turns around and faces Hyun Suk, who’s burning inside the car. She drives away. Ma Ru requests little Mi Sook to wait for him, he’ll be back and speeds after the car.

Photobucket
Hyun Suk returns to the hospital, at the right time because Dong Joo finally wakes up. However, he can’t hear any sounds. She continues to comfort him yet he looks at her in confusion and fear. He begs her not to joke around and talk: “Please, talk, Umma.” God, someone saves my eyes…

After Dong Joo is asleep, Ma Ru kneels at the door asks for Hyun Suk’s help. Tears fall as he pleads. Oh, no, not you too!
Photobucket

Ma Ru: “Just for once, please help me. You said to look for you when things are difficult right? This is the first and also the last time. I know you’re having a hard time but I have no one else to ask for help. Please help my father. I’m sorry, please help me.”

Photobucket
While he’s in tears, Hyun Suk appears nonchalant, fixing Dong Joo’s hair. After a long silence, she beckons Ma Ru over, and shocks him (and me) with a question, “Do you want to be my son?” O__O Her true intention is revealed as she thinks, “Choi Jun Mo (former name Choi Jin Chul, I think), doing this to my son, just wait and see what I’ll do to your own son.” ACK. Revenge!

Photobucket
A few days later, Young Gyu, little Mi Sook, along with the Lee couple gather at a river to spread Mother Mi Sook’s ashes. Before sending her off, little Mi Sook shows her mom her official letter to school (this means she also has a name now).

Photobucket
A year later, little Mi Sook, now with her registered name, Bong Woo Ri, wears Ma Ru’s watch and checks out for his whereabouts at the police station. Aw, they are still looking for Ma Ru. At home, Shin Ae drops by. With her expensive clothing and make-up face, I fail to see why she can’t buy a ticket to Jeju and look for her son?

Wait a minute, if she doesn’t know where Ma Ru is…then..Choi Jun Mo won’t have a clue then? Where did Hyun Suk take the kids?

Photobucket
She takes them to Saipan. Ma Ru’s new name is Jang Joon Ha. Hyun Suk is treating him quite well. Inside the house, we see a frustrated Dong Joo turning the volume to its max. The injury has damaged both of his auditory nerves. The doctor suggests he starts learning sign language because surgery won’t help. Worse yet, Dong Joo has refused to talk in the past year.

Photobucket
Ma Ru and Dong Joo also share the same room. It looks like their bond is set to a new level. Ma Ru promises to take care of Dong Joo as his hyung (older brother). I guess he likes to be called “Hyung” than “Oppa”. Bromance!

PhotobucketPhotobucket
Thinking that the boys are deep asleep, Hyun Suk enters the room and says sorry to Dong Joo, it’s all her fault. Ma Ru listens quietly and cries as he remembers the things his father (Young Gyu) did in the past for his sake.

Alice: I hope it’s not just me but the scene where Dong Joo fell is filmed beautifully. Chills crawl up my back whenever I see his helpless face falling deeper and deeper into the background.

You have no idea how happy I was that Ma Ru isn’t a heartless kid. IF he ran after her and not asked for help, I swear I WILL hate him forever. Now that he’s with Hyun Suk, we get to witness his maturity grow. He is able to sympathize with his mentally challenged father. I’m grateful for that scene and anticipate their reunion.

Photobucket
Kim Sae Ron as little Mi Sook is winning and charming. She lights up the screen when she smiles and stabs at hearts when she cries. Brilliant young actress. She reminds me of the young Mi Ju from Giant. You know, with the red shoes and all.

From the looks of things, Hyun Suk is going to raise Ma Ru up lovingly, using his love and dedication to her as a weapon against Choi Jun Mo and Shin Ae. Should I dance or sigh?

Alright so I hardly ever cry watching kdramas and when I do i only get a little tearful but the fact that i was full out sobbing watching this 4 episodes in to a 30 episode series tells me they are doing something right. . My God this show is amazing. I cannot wait to see what’s I’m store. I was hesitant to watch this show but dear God i am not hesitant any more. This show connects with me even more as i know a lot of sign language and am slightly immersed inn deaf culture so i feel like that has added to my experiance with this show. Like i said i cannot WAIT to see what’s in store!
